Your organization is inspiring. I've finally clued in just how important it is over all the side projects with the plant hobby that brings clutter. Because I find ultimately if you aren't organized something ends up suffering totally negating whatever benefit the little mess of projects would have accomplished. I guess we all have to learn our own certain lessons the hard way haha. I can't wait for your spring bloom videos, those are my favorite. You inspired me to get into succulents with some really cool orchid cactus for their blooms.
Awwww thank you so much, and I agree completely with your words about being organised, I really try to be as organised as I can but I do struggle as I have ADD the inattentive type, and I often have quite a few different types of plant projects on the go all at the same time haha, and coincidently Hans my Partner also has ADHD haha, I have had to really try to be as organised as I can over the years otherwise I find I get overwhelmed very quickly, I am so happy to hear that I inspired you to get into Succulents and Orchid Cacti, Orchid cacti really have the most incredible blooms on them, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX

I think I told you a couple years ago that, because I couldn't collect rainwater, I was watering my plants with reverse osmosis/deionized water. It worked for me, but since it contained no nutrients, the plants grew very slowly. Seeing how you and others I saw online were doing so well with rainwater, I started thinking about how to modify my purified water to make it more like rainwater. My first step was to research why rainwater was so good. The thing I found out was that rainwater was dirty. When water vapor in the atmosphere condenses into mist it needs some solid core to form around. That core is particles of dust lifted by the wind from the ground to high in the air, as well as smoke from various fires. Dust, being pulverized soil, contains the same minerals as soil on the ground. In addition, rainwater absorbs nitrous oxide from the air. Since these dust particles are tiny, the rain is only able to absorb a very tiny amount of minerals. The total dissolved solids (TDS) in rainwater ranges from about 30 to 40 PPM. To make simulated rainwater, I decided to use tomato food, 12-15-30 with .5% calcium and a range of trace elements. I set a goal of 30 PPM. (Since I am also growing a few Venus flytraps, I wanted dead soft water) That led to a problem. I filter out my water in gallon jugs. I had no way to measure out the tiny amount of fertilizer needed to make a gallon of water. So, I put 400 milliliters of purified water in a pint jar and added a half teaspoon of fertilizer to it. That gave me a solution that I could accurately measure into my gallon jugs. It turned out that thirty milliliters of this solution, added to a full gallon jug, gave me a final solution of 28 PPM. That is what I have been watering my plants with for the last few months. Naturally, I will be watering most of my plants with a stronger solution once a month to produce stronger growth. Since I am still experimenting, I would welcome any comments or suggestions.
WOW thats amazing how you have worked out the solution for your water, and working out all of the measurements you are a genius haha, I will be really interested to hear how your plants get on, thanks so much Emmit for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX

Just be a little careful Lyn. according to net-weather 4-5th it might drop to 4c for two to 3 nights around that time. but you do have a good heater so im sure your able to cope with a few days a little cooler nights. im holding of a little as just potted up few to bigger pots and it looks like they are all good for another week or maybe two. but overall weather is starting to look like summer :) this year even more prepared, got my self a sprayer those ones you pump up, neem oil and soap, loads feed as was on a good deal last summer, and some tomato feed in the green house, they have all been sorted over the last year, last few weeks they all had pest treatment as we did get that very annoying spider mite, but that SB pest killer works as other methods failed, only two plants have been effected but both now are back on the watering and showing good signs of growth so happy days. a lot my fault as left them for a month end last summer but was never treated properly at the time, just got to keep on top of them now. just cannot wait to get back to summer watering :) long time since sept
Thats fantastic you are all organised and set up for the growing season ahead :-D its such an exciting time now with all the full growing season ahead, yes the nights are still chilly and it was jsut 5c last night and 5c forecast for tonight again, but we have the heater on hand if we have to put it on, I still haven't watered the tall ones in the new greenhouse as we don't have a heater in there and will have to ait a bit longer before I water them and I still have a lot of plants in the house I want to move into the polytunnel but they are not cold hardy ones and I will have to wait until the nights warm up a bit more before moving them out into the polytunnel, thanks so much Steven for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX
@@desertplantsofavalon you sure have to be careful as nights can still get a bit cold. rest this week it says lows of 4c, but the 30th Sat it says 2c so could be a light frost in the more rural areas, then a few warmer nights then lows of 5c till the 6th/7th then night temps do look to be improving according to netweather. even had to put heater back on low for the nights as have some 1 year old plants in unheated conservatory, just before watering, tall ones in line with wall and every row to the right is lower in height, means they all get the most out of the summer sun and will make watering a lot more easy :) but a week and a bit for that, only the bunny ears cacti ive started to water, my money tree and thanksgiving cacti ive been lightly watering them throughout winter and the thanksgiving cacti, well one of them is in full bloom, never seen so many flowers and the size of the flowers wow. a week and a bit then i start the watering on all :) but heater on cooler nights but hopefully they soon be gone :)

Oh no, the weather can be so up and down at this time of year with the night temperatures, we had to do the same with all the ones we moved into the yard last week, we moved all the Epiphytic cacti out into the yard and had to bring them back in the polytunnel again and then back out again this weekend, its like a workout at the Gym haha, thanks so much Holly for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX
It is upsetting that the government in the US has declared us unfit to own Loph. Williamsii. Such an interesting cactus 🌵😞 It is only legal in Arizona if you're lucky enough to live there. Unfortunately that is not my homeland.
Its such a shame that the US government don't allow people to grow Lophophora unless in Arizona, I agree its such a wonderful cactus to grow and have in a collection, thanks so much Brabby for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX
Hi Lyn, great information here! So you just give them a light watering the first time after winter, great to know. When it comes to repotting cacti, do you want until after this first watering and repot them in the spring? I is my understanding you want to repot them dry and wait a week to water after, but don't repot directly after the winter rest. Love your channel!
Hi Gabriel :-D you can repot them before their first watering too as long as you re pot them into dry cactus soil, but it can be better to repot them a few weeks after their first watering as the plants have come out of their winter dormancy and can adjust to be repotted better, so happy you love my channel and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday today XXXX
Hi Vishruth :-D the polytunnel allows 85% sunlight to pass, but ideally cacti love to have 100% especially in my Irish climate haha, but sadly the green cover does filter out 15% of the suns rays, on a positive note it helps to keep the plants cooler on the very hot days, but I hope in the future to move house and get a large clear version polytunnel, thanks so much Vishruth for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX
Thank you for the video Lyn. So much info At 7.49 you have watered a ferrocactus, just wanted to know the reason why a lot of cactus show a certain browning at the base. I have a few cacti which have brown at their bases, could you explain why
So happy you enjoyed the video :-D the good news is that as Cacti age their produce a natural brown corking at the base, its harmless and only a concern if the base is soft and squishy due to rotting, if the base is brown but firm its normal and part of the natural aging process, here is a link to a video I have made on Why this happens:ua-cam.com/video/g6ur8YvQxKU/v-deo.html thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX
Thank you for this great video, it stopped the panicing 😅. I have a Stenocereus Pruinosus Spralis. And he or she got aproxamly the same color as a few of your cacti. Yeloisch, pale green/black. I didn't think it could be rooth rot because i didn't give it water since i bought it, i didn't see any bugs, so i gave it a little bit of water and maybe that was it 😇. Love the video!! Have a nice day 🤩😍
So happy you loved the video Carine :-D and thats fantastic you have given your Stenocereus prunosus a watering, I am so happy Spring is here and the plants will be coming back into the growing season again, thanks so much Carine for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX
Hi Steve :-D yes the good news is because your plants are coming out of the Winter rest period, they will be safe with the cool nights if it drops to 4c as the plants are not dormant, its much more risky if the plants are dormant and the soil is moist and its cold at night, but this time of year they will be absolutely fine as long as they are protected from any frost, so happy you love the trays they are from IKEA and only £2 each, they save on space and I use a clean sponge to soak up any excess water that remain in the trays after a couple of hours, thanks so much Steve for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX

Great vid Lyn. I did my first watering last weekend. Happy days. Love to you and Hans my fellow Swede. 😀👍

I took most of my plants out last weekend…. Had to bring them all back in Tuesday. I know better. Maybe this weekend. 🤞
Williamsii. Such an interesting cactus 🌵😞
It is only legal in Arizona if you're lucky enough to live there.
Hi Gabriel :-D you can repot them before their first watering too as long as you re pot them into dry cactus soil, but it can be better to repot them a few weeks after their first watering as the plants have come out of their winter dormancy and can adjust to be repotted better, so happy you love my channel and thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a fantastic Friday today XXXX
hi there , long time subscriber . i had a question , how much percent sunlight does your pollytunnel allow to pass ?
Hi Vishruth :-D the polytunnel allows 85% sunlight to pass, but ideally cacti love to have 100% especially in my Irish climate haha, but sadly the green cover does filter out 15% of the suns rays, on a positive note it helps to keep the plants cooler on the very hot days, but I hope in the future to move house and get a large clear version polytunnel, thanks so much Vishruth for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful new week XXXX
Thank you for the video Lyn.
So much info
At 7.49 you have watered a ferrocactus, just wanted to know the reason why a lot of cactus show a certain browning at the base.

We are forecast down to 4C overnight for the next few days and I've been watering, is that going to be an issue?
This is the second watering I've done. First was a light one about three weeks ago.
Just looking at your under trays, can I ask where they cam from and how you deal with them getting standing water in them? :-)
We have frost warnings this week so soring is still being a ***** but soon we can sit outside
and enjoy
The weather can be so up and down at this time of year, and I feel I can't relax with the plants until at least mid may, the nights have been so up and down with temperatures here in Ireland, I am so looking forward to being able to sit outside and enjoy the sun and heat haha, thanks so much Tinamarie for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a wonderful weekend XXXX
