- KIA FORTE OIL CHANGE DIY
TODAY WE WILL CHANGE THE OIL ON MY 2021 KIA FORTE! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME IM CHANGING THE OIL AND FILTER ON MY KIA FORTE AND I USED MOBIL 1 FULL SYNTHETIC MOTOR OIL ( 5W-20 ). THE FILTER I USED WAS A PUROLATOR ENGINE FILTER ( PART #PL14459 ). TO DRAIN THE ENGINE OIL YOU WILL NEED A SIZE 17 SOCKET AND A UNIVERSAL OIL FILTER WRENCH COULD BE HELPFUL! SYNTHETIC OIL IS GOOD FOR 10K MILES AND I HOPE THIS VIDEO IS HELPFUL FOR ANYONE TRYING TO CHANGE THER OWN ENGINE OIL AT HOME!
THANKS FOR WATCHING! - Авто та транспорт
You could used a large plastic fountain drink cup to take off filter once it's loose. To avoid getting oil all over .
Yeah he cranked on the oil plug. That could cause issues removing it later on because it gets hot and cold. I go hand tight then 1 full turn on the wrench for anyone interested
Facts. I saw that as well.
I will give this a shot on mine, I'll let you know in 6 months how it comes off! I've never heard of putting new oil inside the new filter, though I have heard of lubing the seal on the new filter
I sought out this video just to see the socket size needed before I get underneath the car, but I stuck around for the whole thing. Your method is just how I learned when I took auto mechanics way back in 2005. The thing I remember most is to 9lube the gasket on the filter and then add some oil so it's not trying to dry-pull on first startup. Can't wait to introduce my son to this hobby and get him interested in being invested in the maintenance and care of his personal vehicle. Thanks!
Awesome and thanks for sharing 👍 my dad was a mechanic and I grew up watch him do maintenance on his cars that’s why got me into the passion and love for cars and bikes!
Awesome info just got 2019 kia now I know exactly what to look for. Thank you
Thank you and your welcome 🙏
Just bought a Kia and this was helpful identifying where the filter and plug is. Thanks
Congrats on the new car, and your welcome 🙏
I normally slide my finger on the old oil filter seal and then use that oil to slide across the new oil filter seal to lube it. Great video! 👍 thanks man
Appreciate you watching 🙏
very easy to follow, great video 👍
🙏👍
Thanks for this very easy to follow.
You are welcome 🙏
Like the oil, not sure about the filter but personal preference.
so to unscrew the oil filter does you go left or right for 2019 kia forte
That was simple 👍
Pretty easy 👍
Thank you for this video. I just changed my 2005 Kia Sedona oil. Interesting that, that also uses a 17". 5W 30 oil. I am willing to bet that they use the same oil filter. I actually will have to jack up my Forte GT. Not looking forward to it. Thank you again.
You are very welcome and goodluck 🙏👍
Como se formatea la computadora del carro cuando le haces el cambio de aceite ??
Parabéns pelo o vídeo!
E por dividir seu grande conhecimento!
Obrigado meu amigo!

Thanks good job
Appreciate you 😂👍
Thanks for the vid, super helpful and appreciate your attention to details. If only all tutorials were idiot proof 😅
Anytime 🙏👍
Good Job 👍
Thanks boss
Anyone here change coolant of it. how to drain all coolant on reservoir. i cant find out. i put pipe inside reservoir so i can suck it out.but it cant go to bottom structure of it so complicated. guys help me.
I have a 2021 Forte 6 speed manual, its so low my old floor jack wont fit underneath so i just bring to the dealer. GREAT car
I got some drive up ramps and it makes it up them with about half an inch of clearance on the underside lol, Worth the investment! Just put some blocks on behind rear wheels and engage your parking break. Never had an issue!
@@Adavis97 Thanks for the advice but i was looking at the price of a synthetic blend oil and decent filter, i really don't see that much of a savings
Great video thanks for sharing. What size oil filter wrench does a 2020 Kia Forte LXS use? Also, Can you tell me how many quarts of oil I should put in it? When changing the oil.
I mentioned everything in the video
In the video he says "17" and then 4.5 quarts.
May I Ask you ?. When you remove oil filter and oil drain screw which side follow to clockwise to open them ? Thank you
Righty..tighty..lefty...loosey.
On my forte it doesn’t show me oil life
the car takes 4.2 qts with the filter . i think you put more than that
Good video tkus
Your welcome
Don't over-tighten the bolt on the oil pan. The bolt should be screwed in by hand so you don't destroy the thread. Barely tighten with the wrench. You will never strip the thread on the oil pan and taking the bolt off for the next oil change won't be difficult. The same for the oil filter, tighten as much as you can by hand and less than a little nudge with the tool. Start the car while on the ramps. Inspect the filter and the pan bolt for leaks.
Any reason why not to go to the dealership for a first oil change? I can do myself but they offering a first free maintenance service . It’s a 2020 Kia Forte only 4,000 miles
To be honest oil changes are easy and I kind of enjoy doing them when I have free time. Plus I like using my choice of oil! I do agree some car dealers off free oil service and it’s kind of a waste to pay out of pocket so it’s kind of person’s preference at this point 🤷🏻♂️

We're you able to set the miles for the next oil change on the vehicle dash?
Yep, Put the key into ignition and turn it until everything lights up. You will get a message saying your oil service interval. Press the the button on the right side of your steering wheel right next Cruise button with two papers on it. Then scroll down until you see service interval on your screen and press ok on the steering wheel. It will ask if you want to reset the miles and time until next service hold the ok button down until it pops up saying it’s reset 7500 miles. If this is confusing to understand let me know I will make a follow up video for you.
Hell yeah thanks I was able to follow it and figure it out, thanks so much just did the oil change yesterday perfect timing👍
Torque specs to put the oil cap on?
Yeah he cranked it. That could cause issues removing it later on because it gets hot. I go hand tight then 1 full turn on the wrench.
Awesome.
Can you do a video for change transmission oil? :) same car
I would love to but I sold the car for a Kia k5
@@artysgarage good choice
@@artysgarage go test drive one and do it
Is there any way to get at that filter without getting completely soaked? I'm about to do my first oil change! scored this puppy for 17.5 k after taxes and all, private buy. 10850 miles but they never changed the oil that I can tell
You shouldn’t get soaked at all! Wear some gloves and don’t be to close to drain plug you should be fine 👍 good luck and let me know how your DIY works out!
You need to fill more oil in that filter
I have been looking at videos on changing the oil in my 2020 Kia Forte LXS. Nun of them tells what kind of oil they are using. You are the first person to say I'm using Full Synthetic oil. Thank you so much. It does not say what type of oil to use in my owner's manual. It says to use 5w-29 but that is all it says. Unless I am missing something here. Can anyone help me. I have a 2020 Kia Forte LXS. ( It does not have the turbo engine.) Awesome honest video here. Thank you for sharing it. I will follow your channel from now on.
Thank you 🙏 I used Mobil 1 5w-20 but Mobil one was just personal preference you don’t need to go with Mobil 1
I was told by the dealer than my 2021 Forte EX comes w/ synthetic blend, so thats what I will keep in there. Ur best bet would b to call the dealer & ask.
My Forte manual says use full synthetic oil, 5w30 for turbo engine, 5w20 for non-turbo engine.
Is it ok to use ow20 full synthetic in winter? 2019 kia forte
Depending what your winters are like?! I live in California it’s always hot here.
No replacing the crush washer?
Yea can replace it but I didn’t the first time around
I was told by the dealer they use synthetic blend oil from factory. I'm just curious why you went w/ Mobil 1, since it's a lease.
I used synthetic aswell. Mobil 1 is just a brand of oil I use for many year on my cars ( personal preference )
@@artysgarage the reason I'm asking is the factory uses synthetic blend but you upgraded to full synthetic. I'm curious as to why. Full synthetic is more money n Mobil 1 is among the most expensive oils anyway. It's a rental car, unless ur planning on buying after the lease is up
You are right! It sounds a bit foolish for me to spend extra on a lease and then hand it back but I feel good when I use good oil or fuel up good fuel! I might be wasting money but like I mention in all my videos it personal preference I’m focusing more on to show how the process goes then marketing a brand for anyone to buy!
@@adaml2932 its not that big of a price difference honestly
Please how much oil is included with the filter?
Oil is not included with the purchase of the filter
Give you a little advice for next time when you take the filter out take a hammer and a screwdriver and poke a hole in the bottom first so the oil drains out it won't run down your arm 😊
🤔
4.2 quarts
Arty, my Forte has covering going over the length of the entire front of the car- your Kia does not have this or did you remove it? It is if they only want you to take the damn thing to the dealer. Appreciate a repy!
Nope I didn’t remove anything! What year and trim level is your car?
@@artysgarage 2021 forte can i attach a photo here?
I don’t think UA-cam allows photo attachments. You basically have a engine cover? From my understanding the engine cover shouldn’t be in the way for you to do oil change
Does the drain plug have a gasket or washer?
Washer. If you ever replace it, use aluminum or copper, not plastic, imo.
I've seen someone else fill the oil filter with oil to soak the filter material before fitting - not necessary?
It's good practice to at least fill and allow it to soak up, especially on larger cars but smaller cars it isn't really necessary. You can never go wrong by reading your car's manual for step by step directions.
How did you reset the oil light ?
Put the key into ignition and turn it until everything lights up.
@@artysgarage if it doesn’t say reset what can we do?
What car Ramps do you have?
Rhinorampsw
I Baught The New Car Same Colour Make a vedio on doing lil mods to this colour
I sold it few month ago and bought a 2022 Kia k5... check out the videos on the channel
You Should sue your elementary school teacher, your spelling is TERRIBLE!!
How long can I go before I have to change the oil in my Kia forte?
I do mine before time because I feel like new engine oil is the best thing for your car! I would change every like between very 5-7.5k miles.
@@artysgarage Thank you
HA HA, I have the exact same car and oil filter wrench and it works great. TIP for you, after the filter is loose put an old sock or plastic bag all the way over it and then finish removing and you will have a lot less mess. Also, only use an SP rated oil that is semi synthetic.......
Yea man that wrench really works and thanks for the advice on keeping the mess under control 🙏👍
@@artysgarage How much was the Puralator filter? OEM was about $10.00 Glad to see your using the best.
It was also around that much. I try my best to use oem products for my cars or try brands that have great ratings from customers! I don’t care if it’s my Kia or Porsche I like using good stuff on my cars 👍
@@artysgarage On my vehicles i always just loosen the filter until the oil starts to run down the side of the filter and let it drain off the filter until it stops, then finish removing the filter to avoid as much mess. The filter usually has some contours for the oil to turn down.
4.25 quarts
This incorrect video could possibly hurt the engine, it plainly states on the oil cap. 5W30. Today's engines have such precise measurements.
Read your manual or call your dealer 🤷🏻♂️ I was told 5w20 is good by my local dealer
@@artysgarage The OIL CAP on the ENGINE SAYS 5W30. THE DEALER IS WRONG & SO ARE YOU...
I just googled what oil a 2021 Kia Forte needs and it also sais 5w20.
@@artysgarage Of course Google/Internet is never wrong. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@thomasbalsamo3734 😂😂😂
For my car kia forte 5/30 its 2020 model
Will it hurt my Kia Forte if I put 5w30?
I recommend using what the dealer suggests to use but brand of oil is personal preference! Just my opinion 👍
@@artysgarage Thank you, I double checked and you are correct!
Anytime 🙏👍
This guy is so wrong, the Oil Cap Says 5W30.....
@@Druguana Ty!
He tightened the oil plug way too tight.
Holy SHIT there is ZERO reason to tighten that drain plug that much. No one do that, it's moronic. It has to barely be past finger tight, same with the filter.
It’s not that tight 😂
Always pull your sleeves up lol
Yea you right 👍
2019-2021 kia forte uses SAE 5W-30 not 5W-20. Be careful what you watch guys
Nothing wrong with using 5w-30
@@artysgarage that's exactly what I said, they use 5W-30
@@kalebberend you can use 5w-20 without a problem I asked several Kia techs
@@artysgarage is that why you deliberately used the wrong oil in your video? To "stick it to the man?"
@@kalebberend who said I used the wrong oil? You can use both.
You made a mess... got oil all over yourself when removing the filter. Better instructions next time...
😂😂😂
Why in the fuck do you need to change your own oil? I got a deal when I bought my car for service as long as I got warranties. I don’t pay shit for dealer service oil changes. Fuck a warranty, huh?
I enjoy it!
I'm a mechanic and I enjoy it lol
You trust dealers a lot more than I do. They'll screw something up, then charge you to fix their mistake. Ain't nothin' free.
Where do you dispose of the oil that came out in the bucket?
You can take it to your local autozone or pep boys

Does the oil drain plug get a gasket or washer?
Gasket
Incorrect, it gets a crush washer
