    Heads up: 9 years later, these videos are still getting people into this game 😅

    I really love your videos! Straight to the point! you just play the game, almost all other sits and talk about stuff, its so frustrating to have a 1h video in what you cover in 5 minutes! you really get the job done correctly showing games played!

    Fantastic playthrough series btw. I know this is several years old, but these videos were a big help in cracking the rule book and clarifying some of the mechanics. Well done.

    I realize these videos are a bit older... this game , as strategic, didn’t hit my radar until recently...but it looks good. I’ll keep my eye open for a copy...figures, I take an interest to an out of print game🙄

    Brave man to have a large drink on the game table. That has not gone well for me in the past. Great series. I plan on getting this game soon.

      Same with me. Knocked a can of beer over Legend of Drizzt. Had to rescue the chits and squeeze them dry. (then had to glue quite a few back together) :x)

    Answer to question at 56:07 (can German surface unit intercept supply?): yes, Rule 7.4.3, 4th regular paragraph.

    Minor mistake at 47:16: the French air unit must be placed in a city per the scenario instructions. Great play-through btw, very helpful!

    Very nice and usefull video ! Thank you a lot. Side question : your counters are so wonderfull, how do you trim their corners ? =)

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  11 місяців тому

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video. For my counters, I clip the corners with a 2mm corner rounder from Oregon Laminations.

    Another great video. So when will you get around to doing Barbarossa or the entire campaign game? LOL!

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  10 років тому +1

      Ha ha. I think there are only a few scenarios left small enough to play through to the detail I am playing. Probably Balkans and French North Africa.

    No board game can truly re-create the German Panzer breakthrough in May 1940. Every game I've ever seen (or played) turns into a re-creation of the German attack of August 1914.

    • @pm71241
      @pm71241 4 роки тому +1

      You're right about the "truly re-create" part. If you make a game where the real life Case Yellow campaign is common you have to make some special exceptions (and probably not too realistic) to allow that unless you want to make attacking with armor waayy too powerful in general. I think it's safe to say that the Germans rolled really good in May 1940.
      But it doesn't have to be a WWI result. In World-in-Flames it really really hard to achieve historic results in France, but it's no where near impossible to run over France during the summer. You just can't do it in 1 turn.
      But yes... you can get unlucky and have it drag on into the winter. I've even played allied once where the US managed to get into the war and land in France before Paris was taken.

    Great video, very helpful as some points in the rule-book are not well explained.
    Generally, I like the game, a few gripes
    - A lot of bookkeeping and tables (begs for computer version)
    -Historical defeat of France in 1 month is impossible to recreate (as far as I can see). The historical result should at least be possible.
    -The nature of the game makes email play difficult
    Still, low counter density and relatively small rule-book, the game is worth the money.

      I never tried this scenario but if you steamroll in open terrain (no assults) you can atatck win-attack win-attack win wth a tank taking 3 hexes then follow up with another tank or infnatry for serious breaktrhough? It whould require a lot off luck... or the Allies moving up units noth of Maginot into Belgium with no second line .

    What is the difference between this game and 'Axis Empires: Totaler Krieg?' They look the same, both games are even invented by the same person.

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  4 роки тому +1

      I have not played Axis Empires but from the pictures I can see it is more complicated and traditional. For example, combat units have attack/defense/movement values on them. In this game they do not. It appears to allows stacking, in this game, land units do not stack. Things like that.

    • @victoryfirst06

      @@CounterAttack Aha, I see. I've done some research, and my goal was to find a realistic war game, like Hearts of Iron IV. So I came to this game, and it seems fun to me, because you really have the feeling of forming a defensive line along a river or stuff like that. I gather from your and other video's about this game
      Axis empires is familiar to US, but I found out that for instance in that game the attacker retreats when the attack fails, so they have to move backwards, which seems stupid to me (a little different so)

      We've got to get together and play Uncondtional Surrender FtF. I also see you like Virgin Queen. We just had a blast playing that 6p and I'm looking to put another one together (very hard, as you can imagine, given the depth of that one and the commitment needed). Do you still have my phone number/email? Please give me a call! Your UA-cam channel rocks, by the way! Way to go.

  • @horrido666

    Just learning the game, but I thought that you could have one unit inside a fort, and another outside the fort in the same hex (in regards to the retreat at ua-cam.com/video/jQiMSv1dnLg/v-deo.html). Thanks for the vid.

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  6 років тому +1

      You cannot. You can have at most one land unit in a hex. Similarly, you can only have one air unit, one fleet, and one sea transport in a hex.

    How come the germans get pz armies but the french get tanks they can commit once :-/

    • @CounterAttack
      @CounterAttack  5 років тому

      Probably because the French did not have tank armies and the Germans did :) The French tank support counter probably represents the smaller tank units like the one that DeGaulle counterattacked with.

    To bad they went with the boring nato symbos. Infantry should have had a infantry guy symbo, tanks, a tank, mechanized inf a halftrack and so on. would have looked nicer imo.

      A lot of gamers prefer the nato-type symbols.
