Joe, you are going to get me in so much trouble with my spouse. These tactical games all look so interesting and playable. This is a great series and I really appreciate your concise and professional analysis and playthroughs. Nick Stasnopolis
Thanks Nick - I've always felt that the platoon-level stuff gets overlooked in the slew of squad-level stuff out there. I love both, but some of these platoon-level games are really outstanding.
I have had this game for yonks but never played it seeing your vid is giving me vibes to dig it out and play, thanksjoe great playthrough looking forward to the rest of your platoon game plays its right up my street, love to all.
Thanks! I definitely recommend giving it a go, but see if you can grab the latest rules online as the rules included with PoH aren't as easily understood.
@@HexedAndCountered willdo thank you, sidenote do you have more playthroughs planned after walkers kursk i have to say i was not taken with that one (the game not your play) as for fire in step nah quality is too low for my tast stalins triumph looks good but the maps are awefull my kursk platoon level itch is turning into a rash lol do please keep up the good work on the platoon series all best love to all.
@@gunhojput I saw your reply on the platoon series update, which probably answered your question lol. The only tactical Kursk games I have outside of what I've already shown are Panzer Grenadier so would be somewhat similar to Fire in the Steppe. The good news is that yes, more is definitely coming. Thanks!
I'd been looking at this one for a while before finally giving it a shot. The old rules were a bit of a mess and I think that held it back some, but the 2.1 rules from the Normandy/Help Arrives games are much better. There's a lot to the system and I suspect that playing either Normandy or Help Arrives as the first games in the series would be a better starting point than the others. Largely because the 2.1 rules for those games, along with the structured instruction where you start with basic infantry stuff and then add on complexity, is a nice step-by-step approach and bolting that onto Paths to Hell which released with the 1.0 rules was a bit more challenging.
I’ll be interested to see how the desert game looks. I found the maps, and in particular the counters, to be sub standard in ‘Help Arrives.’ Shame as the system and the subjects they cover are good. I definitely put this above Panzer Grenadier and about on par with Nations at War. Unfortunately NaW seems to have stalled.
Yes, I am looking forward to Desert Struggle too. I did get on the preorder for that one. I don't want to tip my hand on the games played thus far, to save it for the series-ending videos, but I will say that I'd love to see more NaW. I'd say the same about Platoon Commander from Flying Pig, which is next on the agenda.

I agree, two of the first wargames I played were SPI's Red Star/White Star and Mech War 77. I loved both of them.

Great video! I have some War Storm games but have yet to play them. This will really help me get through the rules.
Thanks! There'll be some video on A Las Barricadas later this month and ultimately I'd like to do something with the other games as well.
I had this series for a second…but didn’t give it much of a chance
