I haven't seen Inside Out 2 yet, but I am already looking forward to Inside Out 3, releasing in about 10 years from now, about the young adult Riley. Maybe they'll score the rare perfect hattrick of good movies.
People already listed The Last Wish, but I'll make an honorable mention for Cars 3. I had to sit through 2 with some younger cousins and i through i was going to gouge my eyes out. I got roped into 3 and was quite pleasantly surprised. 3 wasn't mind-blowing, but the recovery it made from 2 was incredibly impressive.
I always appreciated the first film for addressing that, yes, we need all emotions. Even the bad ones. Never thought I would be glad for sadness, but there we are.
My daughter, now 14, got mad at me when i explained that the movie was *really* about how sadness is a good thing. She felt the movie deceived her by having serious, underlying themes 😂 Guess I have to emphasise that it's totally fine to just watch it one the surface level (letting the deeper themes sneak in...)
Do we need sadness? Would we be better off without it? I don't know, but I suspect so. Regardless, it doesn't matter, sadness is a major part of our mind, and we can't make it go away, so we just have to live with it.
@@megag52 I know it sounds strange, but they don't mean depressed sadness. More like releasing sadness or grief. As in having a good cry when you're in pain, and maybe get comforted by someone. The thing is, that makes the pain pass quicker than if you suppress it and pretend you're happy. Or if someone tries to cheer you up to soon. Unfortunately life does stink sometimes, and we need sadness to process that and make the pain pass.
To be fair about Anger, he expressed joy in the first film when he liked stuff, they just had to align with stuff you'd do when you need to let off some steam
I feel bad for Jeremy that he feels the need to go into movies with no faith due to so much previous disappointment, but I'm glad he was pleasantly surprised by this movie. 😌
I think a great example of a sequel I had no expectations for but what completely blown away is Kung Fu Panda 2. I saw the first one when I was 13. And I was 16 when KF2 came out. I loved the first one. I was hoping the 2nd one would be at least as funny as the first. But when I saw it, I was not expecting it to be such a GUT PUNCH. Now it might be one of my Top 10 favorite movies of all time. It has some lessons that still apply to me as an adult. “Your story may not have such a happy beginning. But that doesn’t make you who you are. It is the rest of your story that does.”
I was 7 when the first came out, 10 with the second. Went into the theater expecting more fun, high-octane energy, left feeling oddly moved and like I had learned something
@@josuegarro5437 I'm talking about all the scrapped story of the third which was going to be as dark as the second. I mean, Kai was going to be way more brutal, the pandas were going to act like a community that survived a relatively recent genocide would, especially Li Shan (and even some of the children would scold Po for being him according to some deleted scenes), Mr Ping was almost going to die, Tigress would lose an eye and Po would get killed by Kai, and the fight in the spirit real would be Po in his dragon form against a giant Kai.

Just got done watching Inside Out 2. As someone who adored the original when it came out, I was very cautiously optimistic about it. I've wanted a sequel since the first one came out, but after watching Pixar's string of sequels that just underwhelmed me personally, I went into it feeling a little nervous. Watching the trailers, it looked really promising, but I still kept my expectations to a minimum. Probably should've been more reassured watching the trailers, I walked out of this movie IMMENSELY satisfied! As a matter-of-fact, as soon as I walked out, I walked right back in to watch it again. I had a huge smile on my face the entire runtime, it reminded me why I loved the first one so much. It did everything I wanted it to do as a sequel; building upon the original, exploring Riley's mind even deeper and seeing more of who she is as a person, the original emotions are more developed, the newer emotions are extremely likable, and all 9 of them have their moments to shine. And it's hilarious! It's been a while I laughed this much in the theater. There's something about these movies that just speak to me, they feel the most human out of all the Pixar movies. And they're not trying to be groundbreaking movies or anything, they're just trying to be genuine. I think that's the perfect word to describe this franchise. Pixar doesn't always treat their other franchises the way they probably should, but it definitely seems they care about this one. Uuuuugghh! I'm so happy with this movie!
As a therapist, knocked it right out of the park. This is as close as you can get to explaining the complex intricacies of the human mind and still make it a fun entertaining family movie. Great job. 👏
Jeremy I used to watch you years ago and recently rediscovered you and it’s awesome you’re still doing everything the exact same way, same graphics, music, everything. I’m back in, baby.
Cinderella: a twist in time is a sequel that I found entertaining and refreshes an old film without making it too cringe or bashing on the Disney movie itself.
I saw it with my mum the day it came to theatres here in Australia. I had expected that it would be busier, but there were only maybe ten or so people in the whole room. We absolutely loved it. About the emotions not having hard lines as to what they express, they did the same with the first movie, when Joy was crying. The thing about story-telling is that if you have one emotion for each character, it doesn't make for good character building or good story-telling. I think, in order to make a good story, they really had to blur those lines in order for there to be growth. Not to mention that Joy could become very annoying if she were just a bubbly optimist all the time, and Sadness would have been annoying as well if she were a downer all the time. I loved how, in this movie, they showed that Joy had learned her lesson from the previous movie, and hadn't reverted back; she had learned ALONG WITH RILEY that Sadness wasn't bad, that she had a place in her life. Immediately after seeing the first movie, I expressed that I thought there could be a lot of interesting things they could do if they did follow Riley into adolescence, and was immediately shot down by my dad, but I'm very glad that this movie proved him wrong. I was very, very happy with how this movie turned out, and the lesson was another very valuable one, as well. I hope that, as more people get to know about this movie, they can all enjoy this masterpiece :)
Woah, wait... you mean... Disney made something that *_HASN'T_* got everyone flying into a murderous rage about how it's the worst thing that's ever happened in human history?! Have I woken up in a parallel dimension or something?!
@themoviecritic1092 true, but think back to the reactions to Lightyear. I didn't think the movie was very good. But it got the internet into a huge frenzy over LGBTQ, conservativism with Tim Allen, desperate sequel baits, etc. Not saying those things don't merit discussion, but it got WAY too toxic too quickly.
Sequel that surprised me was top gun maverick. I had no faith it was gonna be anything more than a nostalgia grab (which being a giant top gun fan I would have been happy with). I was shocked how good it actually was
Sequel that surprised me: Puss in Boots - The Last Wish. A farcical side character from shrek upgraded to a raw emotional journey of facing mortality. Such an upgrade from the first spinoff film just titled Puss in Boots. Animation was spectacular and inventive too.
Sequel that blew me away : Puss in Boots - The Last Wish The first one was so forgettable I had to be reminded I’d watched it by my brother (saw it in theaters with our younger siblings) and I had zero interest whatsoever in a sequel… …Then Dreamworks went and made the most poignant, moving, funny, action-packed animated film since Into the Spider-verse. Everyone is on point, the comedy is great, the emotional beats land beautifully, and the movie itself is still kid friendly, with my children adoring it and frequently requesting the opening song “Fearless Hero” sung by Antonio Banderas.
This film really helped my son 12 realise the world we live in today. It really helps. I'd recommend it to everyone! It's obviously made by parents! I'm not one for kid's films, but we watched it together and he had loads of questions for me after it 😂. Love your reviews mate. Another great video mate!

Thanks, man. I was seriously sceptic when I got the news about this release. I feared this was going to be the latest idea to be screwed by Disney. It's just that the first one is so damn good. But I have seen some of your past reviews and trust your judgement. The most important thing, is that you confirm this is a FAMILY movie, not a given with Disney these days. Thanks.
I remember seeing Inside Out in theaters. How was that 9 years ago?! That’s pretty wild. Jeremy, I appreciate how you still say “worth buying on Blu-Ray”. Long live physical media.
I remember in the first inside out, the emotions are not limited to only the emotions they represent. The filmmakers said they tried that and you couldn’t connect with them and that it was a better character arc for joy if she gets sad and starts crying at the end. So it just makes character growth more possible if they can feel all the emotion so they can understand each other
1. Thank you, I am so relieved that they did not mess this up. The first movie was SO good, had such an interesting spin on what could have been such a big cliche, that I really hoped they'd at least get close with the sequel. 2. Thank you again, for making sure that what you say is not spoilery. I greatly appreciate that!
Great reviews from Jeremy and Dan, my go-to reviewer, all right! From the trailer I really expected another Elemental. I’m so happy that the sequel to one my all-time favourite movies turned out to be good.
I'm pleasantly surprised to hear such a positive review! Inside Out might be my favorite Pixar film, and I had no faith that the sequel could possibly compare considering their track record in recent years. I guess they managed to dredge up a bit more of that "Pixar magic" from an abandoned basement in the studio somewhere.
In regard to volume, I wish UA-cam would add a normalize audio feature as you'll just never get the audio to be the same between channels or even videos on the same channel.
I saw your thumbnail for The Acolyte and before I had the time to watch the video/show my wife asked me about it and my response was "I've heard it wasn't great" 😂 Now that I've watched all the released episodes I can say your thumbnails do a good job of letting us know what we're in for lol
The first movie means quite a bit to me, especially the ending. Similarly to you Jeremy, I had a very old man energy going into this one. You've given me hope that I might have a good time. Thanks for your reviews as always.
9 - 10 years later, and I still cry when Bing Bong sacrifices himself to save Riley. I haven't seen the sequel but am curious if there's at least an Easter Egg or reference that Bing Bong's final wish is fulfilled - "Take her to the moon for me...okay." The sequel that blew me away was "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish". "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" exceeded my expectations where I saw that movie so many times in theaters (10 times and never did that before with every other film in my life) and is one of my all-time favorite sequels.
Not having seen this movie yet, I'm glad you addressed anxiety just being an extension of fear. I felt the same way when I first saw the trailer, so I hope the film justifies that choice. I'm also concerned about the plot hole presented by these new emotions. I'm Inside Out (1) we briefly get to see the emotions of Riley's parents among a few other characters and they only have the original five emotions. The only way to ensure this isn't an inconsistency is if these new emotions are only around for puberty or other moments of crisis and then recede back into the brain or something. I also don't want them to abandon some of the incredibly strong and compelling allegorical concepts from the first film, mainly the console that the emotions use and how you see the adults' emotions all sit at a large console, working together whole Riley's emotions right over solo control of a small console. It's a subtle detail that so greatly enhances the film, adding so much depth with messages about growth and emotional maturity. It's something that I continuously praise the movie for. I think Inside Out is a genius film, and I worry about the integrity of Disney as they create this sequel. I'm glad Jeremy enjoyed it, but I'm still worried about these concepts being forgotten or even directly contradicted.
I was pleasant surprised by Pixar’s outing last year, Elemental. I thought it would be okay at best, but I found it really sweet and charming! It didn’t deserve the hate train it was getting before it released, and im glad it managed to make its money back with people going to see it. (Also, Wade is the person we all need in our lives.)
On the note of anxiety just being fear I think the movie had a perfect way of describing it- "you keep Riley safe from things you can see, I keep her safe from things you can't" (Anxiety to Fear)
Just went to see Inside Out 2 at my local drive in movie theater and I have to say I really enjoyed it. As a 19 year old who watched the 1st movie in about 5th grade, I can really appreciate and relate to (almost too much) to Riley and the emotions in this movie. It was so cute and the story line was intriguing. Overall a great film. I would def recommend
Same here. And I get the feeling that most everybody else will follow suit. Especially considering it's modern-day Disney and as the saying goes "Fool me once..."
Both movies feel especially important for youngsters and 20-somethings like me finding their way through the world. Mental maturity is a blessing since, without it, everyone would be lost.

What's a sequel that really surprised me? Puss in Boots The Last Wish, hands down!
The second one is brilliant, but I wouldn’t say it’s a “masterpiece” like the first one. Because this is a lot more about the adventure than all of the complexity and deep themes
In terms of Joy crying, just basing on the first movie, Joy DOES have sadness' colors in her. That was her whole lesson after experiencing Bing Bong's loss. And even before in the lost memories. You can't have happiness without sadness. So it isn't entirely out of the norm for her to experience other emotions. And to answer his question gotta be How to Train Your Dragon and Dead Man's Chest. I had no idea how they were gonna top the first one but MY GOD they did.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! I feel like Inside Out 1 was the last movie I watched from Disney (which makes almost a decade a crazy thing, wow). I probably won't see it in theaters, but I'm definitely going to watch it at some point. And I love trashy horror, so I have plenty movies I go in with no expectations for... But countless reviews made me happy I didn't go see Tarot xD
I don't know how to feel about this. Seeing how Disneys last movies turned about to be, them tackling puberty in a kids movie... I don't think I will feel comfortable.
I was so sceptical about this film, especially since Mindy Kailing and Bill Hader are no longer on the project but planning on watching tomorrow (UK release date) and now I’m actually excited!!
Anxiety is more than "fear turned up to 11," it's a mental health disorder that requires intervention. I hope they highlight that. Sometimes teens start to develop mental health problems, and parents say "whelp... it's just puberty." That can be dangerous! Take your kids' mental health seriously!!
To be fair, there is anxiety disorder, and then there's just regular anxiety that everyone experiences. I think the movie does a good job showing how anxiety as an emotion can have its place, but can also be damaging when left unchecked to spiral out of control.
@phootaphan9166 they already showed healthy "anxiety" in the first movie by fear making a list of all the worst-case scenarios for the first day of school. Anxiety in this movie, on the other hand, rewired her brain, changed her personality, and, more telling, changed the way she interacted with her friends and family. If your emotions are severing those close societal bonds, that is a disorder. I do not suffer from anxiety, but my husband does. If this is all you know, it may seem "normal," but it's not! Riley, in this movie, needs to have some mental health intervention, and it would have been so easy to do! Just 5 seconds at the end, when Anxiety was in the chair with her "tea," Joy could have said, "Remember what Dr. Thompson said." And that's it... just showing there is a doctor somewhere in the universe that Riley is going to that is helping her with her anxiety. Whether it's a psychiatrist, therapist, or counselor, it doesn't matter. Whether she is taking meds or not doesn't matter. The point is that she is getting professional help for this disorder. I think the movie did a great job of showing Anxiety as a disorder, and they also showed that her mom and dad have anxiety (which is often the case that anxiety is inherited from your parents whether biologically or sociologically). They also showed 2 different coping mechanisms used by the parents via suppression and distraction. I just wish they called it out as a disorder.
THEY DIDN’T SCREW IT UP????
I’m surprised too. Their sequels are very hit or miss.
Or the loot bag was bigger.

@@inumidunoyenuga5333don’t forget the fifth and sixth one where it talks about Riley in the afterlife.
Can’t wait for inside out 3 where the new emotions are lust, depression, and hatred.
FACTS
I always appreciated the first film for addressing that, yes, we need all emotions. Even the bad ones.
Never thought I would be glad for sadness, but there we are.
My daughter, now 14, got mad at me when i explained that the movie was *really* about how sadness is a good thing. She felt the movie deceived her by having serious, underlying themes 😂 Guess I have to emphasise that it's totally fine to just watch it one the surface level (letting the deeper themes sneak in...)
And that’s what I think this one is kinda missing. Don’t get me wrong it’s awesome but the first one overall feels a lot deeper and more complex
I saw the first movie the other day, I remember Joy got sad when she saw Bing Bong die.
I think the dominant emotion spreads at the time, so if Anger was the dominant emotion then Joy and Fear would come with a little anger.
9 years ago? It's painful how fast time is going when you're not waiting.
Man it’s great seeing Jeremy look happy for a change
Yeah, his enthusiasm has been stepped on too many times..
The Real Turning Red.
I feel bad for Jeremy that he feels the need to go into movies with no faith due to so much previous disappointment, but I'm glad he was pleasantly surprised by this movie. 😌
Yea it's hard not to be jaded, especially with how rough it's been for Disney lately.
Lol ahh I feel so bad he's gotta watch movies for a living 😂 not hating trust me I get it moveis are kinda shit these days
Your movie reviews are some of the most helpful on the Internet😊
They're not.
Man, they guts they had to start the movie with panda genocide.
I wish they could've got away with what they had for the 3rd one.
Panda 2 was really good. the character development is solid serious
@@reinweissritter They definitely could have got away with the genocide without the ending of the second one, but they prefered to tease the third one

Jeremy praising a Disney movie again… never thought I’d see the day 🥹
I'm trying to forget Disney owns Pixar
@@monmothma3358same. Pixar made some of my favorite child hood films of all time (TS, MI, FN, walle, Up, TS3). It’s sad to see its parent company go down hill.
I'm so happy for Pixar right now
Someone already said it, but they seriously didn't mess it UP?? I'm in shock... Just that is gonna bring a man tear to my eye.
Inside out deserved a sequel and I’m so glad to hear it lives up to the original. So excited.
I agree 1000%. I thoroughly enjoyed it and so did my 8 year old and my 6 year old.
You must be easily satisfied
I’m glad they had fun with this; I feel like that fun was what made Inside Out more than just a “here’s how the body works” movie.
The 1st one is one of my favorite animated movies ever!

It’s not the 9 years that concerns me, but rather the increasing shade of salt in Jeremy’s notoriously all-black hair/beard!
As a therapist, knocked it right out of the park. This is as close as you can get to explaining the complex intricacies of the human mind and still make it a fun entertaining family movie. Great job. 👏
Agreed. One of the better efforts from Disney lately.
Jeremy I used to watch you years ago and recently rediscovered you and it’s awesome you’re still doing everything the exact same way, same graphics, music, everything. I’m back in, baby.
You can subscribe to him.
The Pouchy scene is unhinged and I loved it
IYKYK
Woah, wait... you mean... Disney made something that *_HASN'T_* got everyone flying into a murderous rage about how it's the worst thing that's ever happened in human history?! Have I woken up in a parallel dimension or something?!
This is Pixar though, so
Give it time.
I saw someone raging that Riley’s dad’s “Disgust” character now had eyelashes so 🙃
@themoviecritic1092 true, but think back to the reactions to Lightyear. I didn't think the movie was very good. But it got the internet into a huge frenzy over LGBTQ, conservativism with Tim Allen, desperate sequel baits, etc. Not saying those things don't merit discussion, but it got WAY too toxic too quickly.
Crazy what happens when a studio makes a good movie first without letting a political agenda do 90% of the heavy lifting huh?
Sequel that surprised me was top gun maverick. I had no faith it was gonna be anything more than a nostalgia grab (which being a giant top gun fan I would have been happy with). I was shocked how good it actually was
🤮
Same as well. Didn’t care for it until after I saw it, Top Gun: Maverick became one of the greatest sequels I ever seen .
Sequel that surprised me: Puss in Boots - The Last Wish. A farcical side character from shrek upgraded to a raw emotional journey of facing mortality. Such an upgrade from the first spinoff film just titled Puss in Boots. Animation was spectacular and inventive too.
Sequel that blew me away : Puss in Boots - The Last Wish
The first one was so forgettable I had to be reminded I’d watched it by my brother (saw it in theaters with our younger siblings) and I had zero interest whatsoever in a sequel…
…Then Dreamworks went and made the most poignant, moving, funny, action-packed animated film since Into the Spider-verse.

….Ok, he liked Wreck-It Ralph breaks the internet more than I did, but that was ONE time!
Thanks.
Never been so early. Love your reviews!
So it just makes character growth more possible if they can feel all the emotion so they can understand each other
My daughter loved the first one, I am sure she is going to love this one too.
Hey, ty for raising the volume of your microphone Jermey, appreciate it and glad I managed to hear you liked the movie.
Great reviews from Jeremy and Dan, my go-to reviewer, all right!
From the trailer I really expected another Elemental. I’m so happy that the sequel to one my all-time favourite movies turned out to be good.
TEN. LONG. YEARS (almost).
The last sequel I expected to be mid but was pleasantly surprised at was Paddington 2, so hopefully I’ll like this movie in the same way!
Hearing a quiet J.J. review is like a Nightmare on Elm Street movie that takes place during the day in a tropical paradise.
I want it so loud that Jeremy ASMR sounds like a fucking rock concert with AK47s as one of the primary instruments
Jeremy!! Puss in boots 2 please!! 😢
Love the videos, man. Keep it up!!!
In regard to volume, I wish UA-cam would add a normalize audio feature as you'll just never get the audio to be the same between channels or even videos on the same channel.
Just watch Robocop. I did at that age 😅
Also saw it earlier today. Its a New direction but stays true to itself. Liked it as much as the old one. Gave it a 7,5/10
I saw your thumbnail for The Acolyte and before I had the time to watch the video/show my wife asked me about it and my response was "I've heard it wasn't great" 😂
Now that I've watched all the released episodes I can say your thumbnails do a good job of letting us know what we're in for lol
The first movie means quite a bit to me, especially the ending. Similarly to you Jeremy, I had a very old man energy going into this one. You've given me hope that I might have a good time. Thanks for your reviews as always.
I forgot Bill Hader was in the first movie
I will be seeing it first thing Saturday I hope!!
Great review bro
Rare Pixar W, might have to wait till streaming
0:36 Aww, Théoden King 💔 RIP Bernard Hill
It's been 9 years since we see you smile, Jeremy
I gotta watch this movie first one actually hit me in the feels low key 😂
Can’t believe they’re making a sequel out of it
Even when reviews are positive, this is the reaction? The sequel was teased when the original released.
Hollywood can't help but return to a dry well.
I have no interest in ever seeing this film but I'll gladly watch Jeremy's review of it.
I'm so excited for the movie!! The first movie is one of my favorite Pixar movies!!
Same here. And I get the feeling that most everybody else will follow suit. Especially considering it's modern-day Disney and as the saying goes "Fool me once..."
Jahns single handily sending me back to the theaters
Both movies feel especially important for youngsters and 20-somethings like me finding their way through the world. Mental maturity is a blessing since, without it, everyone would be lost.
What's a sequel that really surprised me? Puss in Boots The Last Wish, hands down!
THIS!!! Absolutely a surprise 🎉
I can't wait for Inside Out 3 when Sexuality is a character.
Oooh excited to watch now. Was expecting them to drop the memory orb

Mindy wasn't in this because she was busy ruining her comedic credibility with Velma
