Fear is Hader and when you literally work with a team to build a character from the ground up based on you in a way so that’s leaves a issue when a recast happens
$100,000 for a talent like Hader is such an insult. This is from a company that probably spends that much money on snacks for the break room each year. They expect to make hundreds of millions and they won't even offer 7 digits. WTF?
they used to cast voice actors, then they started trying to get big name actors who weren't as great as voice acting to get butts in the theaters. this is a return to form. I'm fine with it.
@@Zectifin THIS ^^ -- The famous-name casting in animation is such a tired & meaningless trope. Back in the day Disney movies would regularly hire actors who specialized in vocal nuance and brought real life to movies.
I mean yeah i honestly agree. They may not be the main character but they are still wanted, i feel like 750,000 to a millikn would have been a good idea At the very least 100,000 with bonuses
$100 Grand is a lot of money, especially for voice acting. I don't believe Amy should have even been paid 5 million. If paying actors that much for their voice was the norm, then studios would have to spend like a quarter or more of their budget on voice actors alone, which is stupid when you consider all the other departments involved on the project.
The lesson here is Hollywood pays too much for celebrities and not enough to the people actually making the film. Seriously, 5 million for Amy? That is absurd.
I am growing less and less interested in Pixar as time goes on. Their design style in a number of ways seems to be copying Studio Ghibli and the stop motion animation of Aardman studios. Take a look at any of their Wallace and Gromit movies and Chicken Run to see what I mean.
Gurl FOR REAL As an animator; hearing about those big name animators’ pays who work around the clock, compared to the VA’s who come in once or twice a week, is absolutely insane
this is why they used to cast people who just did voice acting. Animated films have always cost more to film that just pointing a camera, so it made sense to cut costs and cast people who definitely knew how to voice act, now they rely on star power and spend money for no reason.
@@Zectifinlol they don’t spend money on celebrities for no reason. Time and time and time and time and time again and again and again, celebrities have proven to influence a general audience and most films live and die by the whims of a general audiences interest. There are obviously exceptions but the vast majority of cases over the last several decades has shown that to be the case. If you want to blame anyone, don’t forget the general audience and the frustrating lack of support for projects that attempt to break out of this mold and the frustrating amount of support for projects that fit this mold. We are starting to see a decline in the influence of celebrities, for sure, but it’s still a tactic that has a net positive track record for now.
Yeah I didn’t even realize they replaced disgust until i was told that, but I was insanely mad for them replacing fear, one of my personal favorites, and they had to make him be the donut guy from the megamind sequel and show, plus being forky
1:30 “Inside Out proved the studio still had the magic touch for creating original stories, so naturally development of a second installment started almost immediately “ 😂
I hate when companies pay more for celebrities than actual talent nowadays (not saying Amy isn’t talented, just generalizing) Exhibit A) Chris Pratt as Mario and Garfield 💀
Honestly, I would rather true voice actors in these smaller roles anyway. While a great talent. Hader wasn’t anything special in the first film. I would venture to guess he had the least lines of any of the emotions. I think there are hundreds of quality voice performers that could have and would be happy to take that role. That said, Tony Hale is also an awesome talent.
I mean, for animation they should just cast top tier voice actors instead of Celebs anyway. You usually would get an even better voice performance (as it really requires a different skillset) for a fraction of the cost of a big 'Name' even if paying the voice actor on the highest level of what most voice actors earn and making it very rewarding for them. Nobody is going to watch Animated movies based on a celebrity name. I don't think they really even did that much before Robin Williams (which, yes was perfect in that instance) in Aladdin and then it seemed to build from there to where it's not just the occasional character voiced by a once in a lifetime charismatic personality like Robin William to having a movie voiced entirely by Celebs, inflating the cost of those movies and denying voice actors the chances to get those really big jobs in your industry.
Celebrities can voice a character but only if the role was actually made for them. Examples being Jack Black as Po, John Goodman as Sully, and Mike Myers as Shrek. But yeah many times random celebrities are used just for name recognition such as Chris Pratt who has a generic sounding voice. Illumination films come straight to mind
@@manus21 I'm from Germany but I've never heard of an influencer getting cast as a voice actor to dub a movie. To be fair that's probably because I stopped watching dubbed movies in german for over 5 years now. Could you name any recent examples?
The original voice actor for Riley is really chill (I’ve spoken to her a few times) Shame she wasn’t brought back considering a VA obviously doesn’t have to LOOK the part and plenty of adults can play child animated characters
@@J.MahargJustI highly disagree, the new one had a very squeaky kind of high pitched voice, the old voice actor sounded older than this new one. I much prefer Kaitlyn’s version.
Disgust's VA turn down to reprise her role (over the salary dispute) and instead had interest working on an new animated TV series based on a well-known IP...… (shows a poster from Velma) and we all know how amazing that turned out.
What... really? She wanted to be in the Velma show than Inside out 2? I don't want to sound rude but this is a terrible decision... it's not very respectul for Disgust's fans either 🙁Between being in a awful and unfunny cartoon or a good movie, i think the choice is obvious!
Bill Hader IS a voice actor. He has worked on Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, at least 2 different roles in Bob's Burgers, Ice Age, Finding Dory, The Angry Bird movies, Turbo, Sausage Party and many more... Maybe. These are the only ones that I know. And he's got a wide range of voices, just watch any three of his SNL sketches.
@@aksharaghav9657 I think the OP is saying that most Disney/Pixar movie casts consist of people who were already famous as live-action performers, while folks who make their living voice acting get passed up in favor of famous names. It wasn't the case before the '90s. Bill Hader is kind of an outlier, and more of an exception that proves the point.
@aksharaghav9657 they're referring to the days when Disney didn't hire known celebs for VO work. Yes, Hader has done a lot, but that's because of that trend. Pre Aladdin, all of those animated films would have been done by unknown VO actors and we would never have known. I love Hader, but honestly I didn't realize it was him in Inside Out until several rewatches
I just saw the movie last night (Thursday previews and all), and I got used to Disgust’s new VA in no time. However, even though I was laughing at Fear several times, I could never fully get the image of Forky out of my head. So there. That’s my two cents, removed from the payment issues that led to this
I admired Bill Hader's voice as Fear, he nailed that role. I'm unsure about seeing the 2nd film because I was quite attached to how he embodied that character.... what an odd choice for the studio to make. I thought it was due to a Tweet or something but just wanting better pay? Come on Disney.
@@BornAgainBrother The voice fits the character, and considering the fact that Inside Out came out 9 years ago, and Fear barley had any lines in the first movie, the voice actor change isn't noticeable until you compare it to the original. Another good example of this happening is the show Star vs. The Forces of Evil, they recasted one of the main characters because the old voice actor did some terrible things, and they replaced him with Keith David. He didn't even attempt to do the same voice, going for his own take on the character, but since it fit the character you wouldn't notice unless you were actually comparing the two voices side by side.
This is interesting. As much as I love Hader and Kaling in their respective works, let's not forget that this whole "star power" voice acting thing was a trend that started with Robbin Williams in Aladdin and has since made VO work for actual VO actors very difficult. Don't get me wrong, no one could do what RW did in Aladdin, but in all honesty animation goes overboard with casting celebs to do work that any pro can do. As much as I loathe Disney decisions, I actually understand these. It's an expensive frivolity. Who voiced Belle in Beauty and the Beast? Who voiced Ariel? Tarzan? If it was made today, Belle would be voiced by someone like Taylor Swift, and can you say looking back that's what that film was missing?
Nah. Paige O'Hara could sing just like Jodi Benson. The thing what's missing from the recent voice actors is a man that helped make a new generations with Broadway Musical implemented in animation. The man is Howard Ashman. A guy that not only came up with the idea but chose real voice actresses from Broadways. And he also lectured them how to sing specific parts. Until you get it right, you had to repeat it over and over again. Now? They barely can sing(Emma Watson) or wants to highlight how they can sing instead of focusing how that character should feel at that moment(Halle Bailey) If he was still alive,Aladdin would have been different. All of his song he wrote for the movie was scrapped the moment he died. Some still somehow survived in the Musical version. So in other words what's missing today are talent AND passion for your work. Someone who care enough to control the project.
Tarzan's voice actor was already a movie actor when he got the role so i don't think that's a good example.Since Aladdin, every voice actor is celeb or well known movie actor. What's missing from today's Beauty and the Beast is a faithful release of the original Motion Picture with faithful color palette. And what's missing from the live action version is Heart. The whole thing is mean-spirited soulless shallow mess of a film. And i watched in my local cinema at valentine's day. It was everything bot not romance oriented movie.
They made 860 MILLION DOLLARS and was still spending less than 10 million on talent. Joy should have at least made 20 million and the rest 10+ million. Pure greed on the part of Disney.
I really like Tony Hale as a voice actor. He was great as Forky in Toy Story 4, and I liked him a lot as Doctor Psycho in Harley Quinn. However, he's not Fear. Bill Hader put so much effort into Fear that hearing someone else do the voice is distracting. For Disgust, as much as I loved Mindy Kaling in the first one, the voice work she has done recently has been kinda... not great. I don't like her in Monsters at Work, and I hate her in Velma. Whatever the case may be, it was stupid to recast both of them, because they were both fantastic.
It ACTUALLY Makes Much More Sense that Mindy Kaling Didn’t Return because of “The Infamous/Notorious Velma Show” which led to us going “Jinkies” in to OUR “Disgust”.
@@numberjuan469Kaling did burn bridges both with the audience in general and the money people in Hollywood because of the disaster that was Velma. Also, the story goes that the disgust character she plays isn't an act, it's her playing herself.
Personally, I thought Disgust and Fear's voice actors did very well with their parts in Inside Out 2. Were they perfect? Not really, but they certainly did well enough that I wasn't getting pulled out of the movie by hearing their voices compared to the old ones. But MAN, it is really a shame that Bill Hader had SO much involvement with the creation of Fear, down to helping figure out his design and mannerisms, and that Mindy Kaling actually helped to write some of the originals story, and yet they were low-balled and jettisoned when it was clear they wouldn't stand for that. I love Amy Pohler as Joy (she undeniably nails her role), but I definitely feel like it was a disservice to only provide HER that level of compensation. :(
Friendly reminder that Kaling is yet another Hollywood celebrity we’ve let get away with severe misconduct. In her case, she sexually assaulted a co-star, and upon concerns by crew, threatened to use her position of power to fire those who may have reported her. We know this because she joked about it on live TV.
@@iceman00behave Ezra Miller only checked off exactly one, being white and nonbinary. Same with Amber Heard, a white bi woman only checking two. Is Kaling LGBT? Because if not she'd only check two of the boxes herself, woman and POC.
I love iconic animation voice actors as much as anyone, but studios don’t have to fill the cast with live action actors. No need to pay that kind of money when you have super talented animation voice actors that can do the job very well. I understand having an A-List actor to headline the movie, but the surrounding cast does not have to be other popular actors.
Recasting actors in sequels because of budget, timing, PR, and/or creative/personal decisions on either side is absolutely nothing new. Look at Rachel in Batman Begins/The Dark Night, Genie in Aladdin/Return of Jafar, Mr. T's police officer character in Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts, Abe Sapien in Hellboy, Rhodey in Iron Man, Evelyn in The Mummy/Dragon Emperor... The list goes on and on.
I mean, your answer proves it is very much a mixed bag. You have Rhodey in the MCU, where the change actually improved the character (same for recasting Ruffalo for Ed Norton- the MCU has generally done pretty well with recasts) and allowed for better chemistry/comedic timing between Rhodey and Tony. You have Rachel in the Nolan Batman movies, where the change feels so minimal that if an audience member didn’t know it happened just by watching the movies, it shouldn’t surprise anyone. And you have the case of Genie in Aladdin, where Robin Williams’ original performance quite frankly should have at least been nominated for the best supporting actor Oscar and where every attempt to recast it has been dreadful in comparison, whether we are talking the straight to VHS sequels or the live action remake, and resulted in nothing else in the franchise being even half as good as the original. It proves recasting can be done effectively, but you have to be very careful to not recast someone like Williams who basically WAS the character.
I wonder if Riley's original voice was casted in another character in the sequel like Nemo's first voice actor did since she was too old to reprise her role.
Disappointed that Mindy and Bill were gone but Liza did such a good Mindy impression that I couldn’t really notice it that well! Ofc they’re still essential though
I don’t think “cheap imitation” is an appropriate to say; the new voice actors did a great job, and they brought their uniqueness to the characters, it’s not just an imitation. You can’t really say there wasn’t a “fair compensation”; we don’t know the details of anything; and the amount of money famous actors make is usually pretty high in comparison to normal population anyways. Actors also gain value post-release in the form of increased presence across the industry if the movie has a good impact, which is what allow actors to become more successful. Pixar has been struggling financially for quite a few years already so it makes sense they are trying to reduce operating costs. Blaming everything on Disney makes absolutely no sense; reducing operating costs is very normal thing that happens on every movie production; you have to work with the budget you got, and that usually means making sacrifices if needed. Finally, Pixar is known to be a responsible company that cares about compensation; their salaries for animators, artists, writers, and voice actors are in avg above the industry standards. People who work at Pixar usually stay there for years.
That’s so strange that they’d low-ball Hader and Kaling, two actors/writers that actually carried caché! Especially since both were leads on hugely popular TV shows
Why are they saying that they don't want to pay for expensive actors. They are literally giving amy Poehler 5 million dollars and the others 100 thousand. Joy is a equal role in this film, so unfair
While I am bummed Hader won't be returning as Fear, not much of the same can be said for losing Kaling as Disgust, especially after...well, y'know...That show that begins with "V" and can be seen on Max as opposed to a hard-worked-on-and-completed film with a Coyote...
I don't like Velma and I've never watched it. I personally don't even like Kaling, but that doesn't how Disney treated her and Hader okay. We can't normalize big companies low balling their talent just because we don't like the people it has affected so far.
Losing bill for the second movie sucks because his voice is so good and iconic but Kelley i am ok will mostly, that's because she created vellma. In reallistic world they would be payed what they deserve but that's disney for ya'.
I understand maybe 1 million for Polar but 5 million/100,000 for her costars is insane. Amy couldn't come down 1 million to split among her costars? Or something? Im sorry but thats an INSANE amount of money for a voice actor (whos really just an actor) when there are so many other people who literally MAKE the movie. 😩🤦♀️
I watched inside out for the first time Friday, and inside out 2 in theaters Saturday. Literally watched them back to back and I had absolutely no idea they were recast. Made 0 difference to me. I would’ve never known if this video didn’t happen. Crazy how easy it really is for them to replace someone without me noticing. I actually love bill haders stuff too.
I honestly don't care because the people who play Fear and Disgust did so good that the change isn't noticeable, and especially after Velma I'm glad that Mindy Kaling got recasted because I'm not really a fan of her.
I understand that in thise case that the recast was a slap in the face to what the actors had contributed to the original film. But just because Pixar might hire less famous actors in the future doesn't necessarily mean they'll be less talented. There are people whose specific skill and job is voice acting and many of them don't do live action acting and often are more talented at voice acting than many of the big name screen actors. Some big name actors are obviously very good at voice acting too, but there are many voice actors out there who get passed over for big roles in major animated films like this just because studios like using the more famous actors with names people recognize to help draw in a bigger audience. So, even though this was an unfortunate situation, I don't think it means that the voice acting in future Pixar films will be bad or subpar, and that it may help talented voice actors get better roles in the future, which I think would actually be a good thing.
As much as I love Bill Hader, I don't think this matters at all, since his role was such a minor character in the first movie anyway. I didn't even remember he was in the movie to be honest. When it's about a more prominent character, yeah, for sure it would bother a lot, but as for this case... Not so much
Honestly this might be what animation needs. They don’t need to cast major celebrities ALL the time for marketing purposes. It’s supposed to be about characters, not the people behind them. It’s part of why animation has lost some of its magic. I can’t watch Super Mario Bros without only hearing the famous faces behind the characters, and that’s just one instance. I hear Chris Pratt, not Mario. Seth Rohan instead of Donkey Kong. In Inside Out, I hear Lewis Black and not a separate character. It’s frustrating sometimes to have EVERY CHARACTER be a famous face/voice. Robin Williams knew what was up with that.
Ngl I didn't even realize the voice actors were replaced. Maybe because it's been a long time since I've seen the first. It is much more obvious when comparing between the two movies, so if you're watching the two in sequence it'll be a little jarring
It's despicable to recast so many of the emotions because they didn't want to take the smaller wages. Disney is making bank on the release of Inside Out with all the added things like merch and the spotlighting in their parks with Inside Out themed restaurants, but they can't bother to pay their voice actors? Laughable and greedy.
Studios are just shooting themselves in the foot choosing celebrity voices over actual voice actors. Depriving an already niche field with overpaid talent instead of paying the actual animators and story people. Blowing the budget to get some actor to voice a bit role instead towards something more important is so ignorant and single minded. They spend more money on the “face” of the product instead of the gears and substance required to function behind the surface level. Hopefully this will lead to a pull back and needless celebrity voice casting. I hate seeing those long list of celebrity names on animated movies like I’m supposed to be impressed.
Bill Hader is arguably a bigger name than Amy Poehler and he only got offered 100 bands for a whole ass movie? The disrespect for officer slater is insane
@@Isuckatvideogames210 Most definitely, he's got the star power behind him, but his role in this movie doesn't require it. Hence why they easily replaced him.
Poehler probably had, like, 20 times the amount of dialogue to record as the other actors. Of course she's going to get compensated significantly more.
The difference between 5 million and 100 thousand is about 5 million. That’s kind of a slap in the face, especially for established actors. Worse still, yeah, she recorded more dialogue… that the other two actors *worked on* in the original film. They did a hell of a lot more than just read a few lines. Which he discussed for like 1/5th if the whole video lol
I would've accepted it, but I can see why the other cast members might've been offended by it or thought it not worth their time. It reminds me of that envious monkey experiment
You are not wrong but, as mentioned in the video, the first movie made $860 millions. Paying the rest of the cast one or two millions each to reprise their roles would have meant peanuts for Disney.
Pixar used to be able to get Disney to pay for whatever film they wanted to make because it always turned into gold, but after the huge displacement of old-guard talent, Pixar hasn't made a great movie in years. We can blame Disney for putting their hands in the pot of the chef, and thanks to their meddling, Disney has lost faith in their once golden goose to produce guaranteed hits. Disney unwilling to invest into Pixar is at the fault of Disney.
Maybe, but what do you say to all the other countries that dub? The US voices DONT MATTER SH*T to us. Not even the songs. Im not saying that the US version wasnt good or wasnt excelent, but its just a percentage of the overall margin. Google says English makes up less than 20%. Sure still a lot, but more than 80 % gives A F if Amy Pholer or whatever does the US voice for the movie.
@@FishwicksREAL I didnt say US market wasnt existent, anyway I looked up the data from Frozen and 70% was box office income from FOREIGN countries. Youre ignoring that???? Lol.
@@PiratDunkelbart .... You do realize that means 30% IS domestic? The foreign market is literally EVERY other country grouped together. Here's the other English countries which comprise a fair share of the international gross of Frozen. - Australia - New Zealand - Hong Kong (shown in both English and Cantonese) - India (same as Hong Kong, but with various Indian languages) - United Kingdom - Nigeria and other formerly British African colonies Now take that into consideration and realize that the second largest market for Frozen, in Japan, was just over half the domestic share. The largest SINGLE income for Frozen was the American release. Please educate yourself.
@@PiratDunkelbart This doesn't even factor in the fact that Japan, the second largest market, simultaneously showed both ENGLISH DUB (with Japanese subtitles) and a Japanese dub for Frozen. That means that there are a considerable amount of people in Japan who, again, watched the film with the English VAs. They are vital.
It's become a real issue for animated features to bring in notable acting talents to play the voices of the lead characters. It encourages fans of their bodies of work to watch the film, but it juices the cost of production just to keep them on as cast members, and every studio with a major theatrical release almost requires an A or B lister to be present on the roster of voice actors, out of fear that without them, the movie won't have as much of a box office draw. It's not to say that some voice acting talent is not merited, there are so many characters in animated feature films that are beloved by so many BECAUSE of the actor voicing them (Robin Williams as Genie, Eartha Kitt as Yzma, Tom Hanks as Woody, Eddy Murphy as Donkey, James Earl Jones as Mufasa or Darth Vader - even tho this last one is live action). But I wish that studio execs would stop assuming that the only reason adults would come to watch an animated family film is due to the cast of actors behind the fictional characters. They seem to be missing the point. Well-written stories and creative, distinctive character development matters, even in films that are directed at children as the primary audience. I was delighted by Hader and Kaling's performances in the first Inside Out, as they have such unique and definitive voices. The sequel voice actors of Liza Lapira and Tony Hale did admirably in the roles, but they have had to take on the affect and delivery and timing of their predecessors, they weren't allowed to really add anything new to the characters of Fear and Disgust. They were told to mimic the voices as best they could, but couldn't deviate too far from them so as to be "out of character". All to save Pixar and Disney on the budget. They set the bar for their voice acting talent, and then didn't want to replicate it. It's a real shame, but in spite of this knowledge over contract disputes, the sequel really does stand on its own.
Come on it takes a few seconds to realize why that wouldn’t make sense Not every emotion is featured equally in what world would it make sense to pay anger 1 million dollars for 3 weeks of work and joy 1 million for 3 months of work😂
When I saw the credits, I had questions about why Fear and Disgust were recast. I should have known it all came down to money. Still, it's terrible Disney wouldn't pay fair wages to two of the stars who made the first _Inside Out_ so successful.
I fucking LOVE Amy Poehler. You won’t find a bigger fan. But 5 million is mad in comparison to the other cast. She would have been fine with half of that. UNLESS there’s other stuff in the contract a laymen like me doesn’t understand.
I think there’s at least two factors not mentioned. For Kaling, I think how genuinely dreadful Velma is has killed whatever marquee appeal she may have had. Regardless of how ideal she was for the role (personally, I think she was by far the weakest link in the original cast) there is an extent to which she may now be an albatross to the commercial prospects of any project she’s in because of how strong the anger is towards Velma. For Hader, his time doing Barry has established him as a much bigger talent than he was when he first played Fear. To say it differently, he went from being a cast performer on SNL to being a potential guest host of it, and that level of star power increase likely means a big pay raise, and ultimately may result in it just not making financial sense for Pixar, especially if they can get someone like Tony Hale to replace him (I mean, how can Buster Bluth not be Fear? It seems even more natural to me than Hader was, and also reflects the shifts in both their careers, as Hader’s rise parallels Hale seeing less success since Veep ended). A final thought- I think these changes can work well artistically, as the idea could be that as we age, the nature of our emotions change, so perhaps they can reflect that with the change in actors. Keeping Poehler as Joy is mandatory as she is the protagonist and we need some continuity as an audience, but all the secondary emotions (except for maybe Sadness) could evolve into new versions that are better performed by other performers, even if the originals were perfect for the original (and I find that statement dubious w respect to Kaling).
Still, Inside Out 2 was developed and cast well before Velma's release, so I don't really think that plays a factor. Hader, though, I can very much see him just pricing out Disney given how much bigger he is now than he was in 2015.
@@MrRapmaster19see I think Velma very much was a factor. Say what you will for Kaling as a comedian, she had enough pull to get Warner Bros to agree to an R rated iteration of one of their biggest children’s franchises and have her write, produce and star in it. Maybe she did feel like she was worth more than they were offering, when you get that kind of agreement with a major studio you would feel somewhat bigger
I disagree with velma's quality lead to her being not hired in inside out 2. Most likely happened disney offered peanuts to reprise her role in inside out 2 while in velma she's the main character there and most likely better salary.
@@ClassifiedRanTom I saw the movie yesterday, and Lewis is still playing Anger (and Phyllis Smith is still playing Sadness). But, I do agree that once Lewis Black was cast as Anger, it would be damn hard to recast it.
This is absolutely 100% a good thing and it's proof positive the internet can turn anything into a complaint. Big name actors get hired to voice characters for their name. Not for their talent, Chris Pratt didn't get cast as mario because he was the best Mario they could find. Yes some Actors can be good voice actors but a lot, are actually terrible and they take jobs from voice actors trained specifically for that. There is no reason to cast bill Hader and and Mindy, for a kids movie over a potentially better performing voice actor.
Even though Disgust is my favorite character, Mindy Kaling is not my favorite actress, so I was thrilled with the change. I don't think Fear or Disgust really needed an established actor for their voices, since the movie is focused on Joy, Sadness, and, now, Anxiety.
Anybody realized Mindy Kailing returned Val for season 2's Monster's at Work. That surprised me. I feel bad for both Bill and Mindy because they didn't get paid enough money for Inside Out.
meh, both changes weren't noticeable enough to affect the movie. unless you watched them back to back you really shouldn't have noticed a huge difference. the new VAs nailed the roles
This may sound silly, but I actually really hope this means a higher emphasis on voice actor talent, as opposed to celebrity talent. (Now, that doesn't mean they should get paid any less for equal work, but I think that celebrities come with a higher price tag to offset their opportunity cost for bigger projects.)
At least they kept Lewis Black as Anger, he was MADE for that role

$100,000 for a talent like Hader is such an insult. This is from a company that probably spends that much money on snacks for the break room each year. They expect to make hundreds of millions and they won't even offer 7 digits. WTF?

@@Zectifin THIS ^^ -- The famous-name casting in animation is such a tired & meaningless trope. Back in the day Disney movies would regularly hire actors who specialized in vocal nuance and brought real life to movies.

@@TheGamersDojo It is the norm
The lesson here is Hollywood pays too much for celebrities and not enough to the people actually making the film.
Seriously, 5 million for Amy? That is absurd.
Yeah, I agree, animators and writers are some of the most under-appreciated when it comes to animated films which is sad
I am growing less and less interested in Pixar as time goes on. Their design style in a number of ways seems to be copying Studio Ghibli and the stop motion animation of Aardman studios. Take a look at any of their Wallace and Gromit movies and Chicken Run to see what I mean.
Gurl FOR REAL
As an animator; hearing about those big name animators’ pays who work around the clock, compared to the VA’s who come in once or twice a week, is absolutely insane
this is why they used to cast people who just did voice acting.
People 100% watch animated movies based on a celebrity name. Voice actors are for sure better, but celebrities bring in more money
Celebrities can voice a character but only if the role was actually made for them. Examples being Jack Black as Po, John Goodman as Sully, and Mike Myers as Shrek.

Honestly, and maybe this isn't a popular opinion, but I think both voice actors did just as well or better than the previous actors.

You are not wrong but, as mentioned in the video, the first movie made $860 millions. Paying the rest of the cast one or two millions each to reprise their roles would have meant peanuts for Disney.

We can blame Disney for putting their hands in the pot of the chef, and thanks to their meddling, Disney has lost faith in their once golden goose to produce guaranteed hits.
Disney unwilling to invest into Pixar is at the fault of Disney.
I'm not sad Mindy's not back, but Bill Hader only getting 100k is just DUMB.
he wasn't that important, a lot of the other VAs deserved more. if it was proportional, fear should have gotten the 2nd lowest salary.
@@duh_googleit Well Fear logically would have a bigger role in Inside Out 2, considering there's Anxiety.
They should have gotten at least 500,000. They help create the characters. That's crazy. I wonder if the replacements got more or less
Part of the charm of Inside Out was the cast! The first movie was such an exciting event.
I’m excited for Inside Out 2!
You don't realize that the largest audience for these movies is the United States?
@@FishwicksREAL I didnt say US market wasnt existent, anyway I looked up the data from Frozen and 70% was box office income from FOREIGN countries. Youre ignoring that???? Lol.
@@PiratDunkelbart .... You do realize that means 30% IS domestic? The foreign market is literally EVERY other country grouped together.
Here's the other English countries which comprise a fair share of the international gross of Frozen.
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Hong Kong (shown in both English and Cantonese)
- India (same as Hong Kong, but with various Indian languages)
- United Kingdom
- Nigeria and other formerly British African colonies
Now take that into consideration and realize that the second largest market for Frozen, in Japan, was just over half the domestic share.
Why wouldn't they just evenly distribute the funds amongst the voice talent? Instead of $5M just for Amy, do $1M each. It's still plenty of money.
Come on it takes a few seconds to realize why that wouldn’t make sense
Not every emotion is featured equally in what world would it make sense to pay anger 1 million dollars for 3 weeks of work and joy 1 million for 3 months of work😂
When I saw the credits, I had questions about why Fear and Disgust were recast. I should have known it all came down to money. Still, it's terrible Disney wouldn't pay fair wages to two of the stars who made the first _Inside Out_ so successful.
Millions of dollars for a few hours of voice work? Lmfao
No John Lasseter, no Pixar. Disney doesn't create, it destroys.
While I agree with you, you can’t replace Lewis Black.
@@ClassifiedRanTom I saw the movie yesterday, and Lewis is still playing Anger (and Phyllis Smith is still playing Sadness).
Honestly, I really liked Tony Hale as Fear even if it was mainly because he played it very close to original run of Arrested Development (on Fox, not Netflix) Buster Bluth, and I can’t say I would have necessarily noticed that Disgust wasn’t Mindy Kaling had it not been pointed out as a difference going into the movie.
Hader and Kalling deverved better 💴
they really did
The only 2 people that didn't return is Mindy Kaling (Disgust) and Bill Harder (Fear)
I hope Mindy Kaling never gets another role again. Bit sad about Hader though.
meh, both changes weren't noticeable enough to affect the movie. unless you watched them back to back you really shouldn't have noticed a huge difference. the new VAs nailed the roles
