Inside Out 2 is a 2024 American animated coming-of-age film produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. The sequel to Inside Out (2015), it was directed by Kelsey Mann (in his feature directorial debut) and produced by Mark Nielsen, from a screenplay written by Meg LeFauve and Dave Holstein, and a story conceived by Mann and LeFauve. The film stars Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith, Lewis Black, Diane Lane, and Kyle MacLachlan reprising their roles from the first film with Tony Hale (replacing Bill Hader as Fear), Liza Lapira (replacing Mindy Kaling as Disgust), Maya Hawke, Ayo Edebiri, Adèle Exarchopoulos, Paul Walter Hauser, and Kensington Tallman (replacing Kaitlyn Dias as Riley) joining the cast. It tells the story of Riley's emotions as they find themselves joined by new emotions that want to take over Riley's head.

I'm sooooo excited for it. 💯👍
Heck yeah I'm excited! Inside Out is one of my favorite Pixar movies and the fact that this has been getting a lot of good reviews with a ton of people saying so many good things about it, it makes me even more excited to see it in theaters.
@@chasehedges6775 I'm incredibly excited for it!!!

I'm somehow more angry that this movie is really good because that means Pixar is gonna go "see people only want sequels"
Yeah, I'm worried they're going to take the wrong message from this movie doing well and assume ALL we want is sequels instead of good stories which just so happen to be sequels for franchises that earned them, along with more originals.
I personally don't really care about that right now
I just want good Pixar/Disney movies right now

I am glad that they not only avoided making anxiety a villain but they also didn't make the cool kids villains
Me too! I was awfully worried about that cliche! :) So glad that they didn't go down that route! :)
I'm glad to hear Anxiety isn't made a "bad guy" or "villain" in this. As someone who regularly deals with anxiety (and loves classic Disney villains) I think it's more mature to treat anxiety as just a normal part of life and while you shouldn't let it consume you, it's also not something that can merely be "defeated" by more positive emotions forever.
It can be defeated or dealt with or repented of, but not by just having positive emotions or just being happy. Idk it can definitely be dealt with but I think everyone just kinda says “stop it” without saying how to say how or actually help
@@SlaveofChrist1 because I think they never understand anxiety to its purest form. They just think of it as a phase. However it’s completely different than the expectations they originally had. Once they find a situation like it, they can’t control it, leading them down a dark path. Which is why I genuinely love this movie so much. It isn’t afraid to make you *feel* that emotion
@@SlaveofChrist1 Anxiety can be controlled, even to a great extent and some people are more affected by it than others, but I don’t believe it can ever truly go away. It’s always lingering somewhere in the subconscious even in the most confident people who claim to have completely done away with it.
While I was enjoying the movie, it wasn’t until the climax and the moment the anxiety-grown sense of self and all that followed where I absolutely put it over the first movie precisely because it got me down to a T.
I hate and have been ashamed to admit that anxiety really gets the better of me, and oftentimes it feels like, beyond moral support from friends and family, I can’t seem to temper it down.
When one of the trailers came out I thought anxiety would be the villain which worried me. Happy to know that that's not the case!
The first joke with Wish was hilarious. Great to see you still rip this movie apart. Ariana DeBose deserved better.
They both deal with glowing orbs so it works!
Thats nice to hear that last part, it feels like people usually tear down whatever lead actor (usually actress) thats chained to another moronic Disney flagship failure; and often times people blame that actor for all its issues and problems that can actually just be chalked up to Disney upper management. Ariana DeBose is a great actress if only for West Side Story, would’ve been great if she has an Encanto or Coco type film to work with, not a half-assed slapped-together shipwreck. She clearly has real vocal and acting talents. Unfortunately it seems like Rachel Zegler is gonna gave an even worse time whenever SnowWhite comes out, too much is riding on that film, and again all the attention will be on the actor rather than the writers or the company to blame
@@GuineaPigEveryday also due to the fact that almost NONE of the live action remakes are good. They're pretty much all garbage.
@@GuineaPigEverydayYeah. I'm also shocked that this person gave Ariana debose justice. Because many people were hating on for example Haley bailey
I saw a meme of Ariana looking glum at an awards show this past spring, and the caption was
“When you thought you were gonna be performing your Oscar nominated Disney Princess song but instead Jack Black is prancing around in a Bowser costume on stage”
(Meme was made before it was announced Peaches wasn’t being nominated)
There was a moment that made me laugh that no one else in my theater laughed at. It was Joy saying "I'm going to tell Anxiety 'hey just don't worry so much' and she will be like 'that worked, I feel so much better now Joy, thank you'." Or something along those lines. Gotta love when someone tells people with anxiety to calm down.
Yeah exactly and it never works if anything it makes it worse
Don't worry I and the people at my theater laughed at that part too. Lol
Crazy to believe it’s been 9 years since the first one.

Exactly. And they way they showed it is really clever.

This is the best non Toy Story sequel from Pixar. Doesn't surpass the original, but it's quite close. I love the moment when Anger shows sympathy for Joy when she breaks down, in fact, I love how all the emotions have a large role in this movie, not just Joy or Sadness.
My favorite scene has to be the one with the 2D cartoon dog and the old grafic videogame character. The audience were laughing out loud throught out that scene.
His special attack made me wheeze EVERY TIME
I feel this is another case of Spider-Verse or Lego Movie, in that both are great, whichever you feel is the better is up to personal preference, and the other is not diminished. While I LOVE Inside Out 1, Inside Out 2 impressed me with the way it handles it situation, takes things to the next level, and speaks to me personally.
The moment the words “I’M NOT GOOD ENOUGH” popped up with anxiety, that hit me like a ton of bricks because holy crap that is pretty much how I feel every day. Did such a good job capturing anxiety its almost like looking into a mirror with the way it led Riley’s behavior.
The third film better be about adult Riley, how she grows up to be an astronaut and she goes to the moon... never forget Bing Bong, man.
Anxiety did the same thing Joy did in movie 1. They both tried to push emotions away that they thought were hurting or not helping Riley.
THE MOVIE WAS GREAT

I like that envy is shown from the very first frame to be a positive emotion. Her job is to give you goals to strive towards. People that inspire you. She only got negative when paired with anxiety.
Yep. People say envy should’ve been antagonistic because they think envy means the same thing as jealousy.
@@neonjays Actually, it’s jealousy that is more benign than envy. Jealousy is when someone has something that you admire, and you want it too. Envy is a lot more sinister. Envy is when you want to take what the other has. Like William Shakespeare’s Iago.
Hopefully this doesn’t convince Pixar to focus only on sequels, like what some of us have been worrying about.
probably Inside Out and The Incredibles are the only franchises that needs more sequels, but with less "kids focused topics"
To a point I feel like Pixar needs the security that sequels bring where there is already an audience in order to profit, because when they bring out something original it doesn't always perform as well. Take too many unprofitable risks and disney might shut them down.
@@rachel7689 but Inside Out obviously was going to be a success, but, idk if movies like Finding Nemo 3 or Toy Story 5 could be a success too, people aren't stupid

I liked the running gag of Fear crushing on Anxiety, but disappointed that it didn't go anywhere, or have any kind of payoff.
The director of the sequel is Kelsey Mann, who was head of story on Monsters University to Onward and directed the short Party Central
Monster's University isn't that bad tbh, it's a lot better than that Disney plus sequel show that came out.
Those are pretty meh, but I hey, it looks like they had a good movie up their sleeve all this time
@@SlaveofChrist1 I don't like the animation on the show. It looks shockingly unfinished and cheap.
The panic attack scene at the end really got to me. Riley's story was certainly specific abd personalized because it's a story, but all of the things anxiety did felt much more universal than that.
ABD? What is that?
@@revaslatts4301 A clever misspelling of "and" just to throw you off
Return to form for PIXAR, not Disney.
Can we please make sure that we differentiate the two?
The one thing I was dreading with this film was the ‘popular girl manipulating main character to break away from their friends’ cliche of which the trailers give heavy vibes. If the popular mean girl isn’t funny like Regina George then it’s just boring to me. Thankfully, Val wasn’t a mean girl and was actually trying to help Riley fit in, while her breaking away from her friends was all her doing.
This was particularly refreshing since a certain animated film from a rival studio last year hinted they were going in a different route with the mean girl troupe…until it just turned into a twist villain reveal that they already spoiled in the trailers 😡.
*stares angrily at Dreamworks* You know what you did! You better hope Wild Robot redeems you!
I love Inside Out 2, VERY much. Almost tops my favorite Pixar film, Toy Story 2.

@@MrGamer07100 we all follow him!
Like no more live action films? If so, yes. We need creativity again.
Did you know the Disney Infinity game has an Inside Out story straight from the ideas they had when making the first film.
I just got back from my local cinema and I loved it. It’s not as good as the first movie but it is just as smart as the first movie.
What Doug thinks Disney will do: " we need to figure out what made this work, and do more of that "
What Disney will probably do: " It worked! Grind it into dust until it stops making money! "
"More Inside Out toys, stat!"
Let's just hope they don't do that. I heard somewhere Inside Out is getting a TV series.
Doug: Disney needs to stop using formulas when making their movies.
Also Doug: I really hope they look at the formula of this movie and understand what made it work.
As a person who has dealt with anxiety attacks, I found this movie to be good and relatable.
Dude that one line about not feeling as much joy in adult hood BROKE me. I felt that REALLY hard but I think it might be because I developed alexithymia, which is the inability to understand or feel emotions properly. It was relatable but hit hard because figuratively I don’t think most of my “emotions” ever made it back to headquarters
Anxiety was too real in this movie.
I think it’s a step up from the first, and the first half is right up there with Pixar’s best. But the second half feels a good amount weaker and the resolution felt a little cheap. 8.5/10, Pixar’s best movie since Inside Out 1
I can't believe they DIDN'T have Anxiety in a purple patched hoodie, with black eyeshadow underneath the eyes. That would've been great.
SANDER SIDES REFERENCED! I AM ASCENDING-
Just saw it for the second time today, but I'm so tired I won't even bother to make a long review in the IMDB style, so I'll just say here how much I recommend it.
The new emotions doing something more than just jumping around the console and throwing one-liners like most Disney sidekicks was a big relief. Bing Bong not coming back was also a relief.
The fact there was no Bing Bong moments wasn't that bad, but that also made the film have slightly less stakes. That's not very bad either, it's just disappointing.
The worldbuilding kinda felt lazier than in the prievous film. There's too little new locations, and most of the film takes place in something we already seen before, minus a few details. That's lackluster, on the other hand.
There was definitely more things not done right, but for the biggest part it's one of the most solid Disney sequels we've seen so far, and that completely wipes out Ralph Breaks the Internet's existence. The jokes almost always landed, the references to the pop culture were stellar, and the dramatic scenes were done masterfully. For the first time director, that's a big W. Somehow, the good Pixar films returned... Take that, Lightyear!
Big 8/10 for me. I need more Inside Out than Toy Story, Minions, Bad Boys, Alien whatever, they're good and make money and all, but this... It's perfect. Inside Out has infinite potential for shows, spin-offs, sequels, theme park attractions, maybe even games, and for now it never misses. Even the characters themselves push this film to the great highs with their top tier designs, especially Embarrassment. I love the new updated crew, and I demand more Inside Out! 💛🧡
Ralph Breaks the internet is probably one of the worst Disney sequels ever made!
Are you sure this can’t go on IMDb? You kind of wrote a review anyway via this comment.
@@primevaltimes I really wanted to go to sleep after my 2nd viewing, so I cut some details, like explaining every new emotions contribution to the story and why they weren't that useless. I also didn't think about it too hard, so maybe I'll do an actual review after my 3rd viewing. Great film.
I just finished the movie and liked it. They didn’t make anxiety a full blown villain just another emotion who wanted to protect Riley and make her happy. It’s just when you’re anxious you tend to overcorrect and second guess and question everything and lose yourself, so it’s good to have joy and your other emotions balance you out. Sure this movie tried to simplify a complex subject like experiencing new emotions when you grow up, but for a kids movie, they nailed it enough that it’s a decent balance of understandable for kids but not too dumbed down for adults
Every time fear was talking, all I could hear was forky, but the movie is still great

As someone who suffers from anxiety I thought I was going to hate the character Anxiety. As soon as I saw her in the trailer, I felt like Ivan Drago. "I must break you." But Pixar pulled off the impossible and not only showed me how my anxiety can be useful, but also made me feel sympathy for Anxiety the character. This movie is a masterpiece and everyone who worked on it deserves an award.
So you’re actually the reason I saw the original Inside Out to begin with. I am a huge Disney movies fan, but man the trailers for the original were not my cup of tea. The climax of the film was a fantastic depiction of what was happening to Riley, definately an evolution of the IP and i hope that the idea, disney, and Riley grow up beautifully
Honestly, the scene that absolutely threw me for a loop was how Anger helped Joy get back on her feet after she broke down. It was beautiful in a new way.
What if Disney continues to make Inside Out movies emphasizing each monumental achievement in Riley’s life. Then, in the last movie, when she’s an old woman, she suddenly realizes in horror that her entire existence was solely created for our amusement like the Truman Show.
Morbid, but interesting. We'll see where this convo going if anyone notice.
@@RicoPrabowo honestly, I doubt this’ll get traction, considering it’s like a horror twist on a Disney movie, but I wish I could animate a mestcanyon-type video about the concept.
My main issue with this movie is that everyone is just way too damn nice. I never really felt like there were any real stakes because we see that literally every single person in Riley's life is super friendly and non-judgemental, basically the complete opposite of how teens actually behave.
Everyone is not too damn nice, fool!

Everyones talking about new emotions for the 3rd movie, but maybe Fear can be the main character when Riley has a existential crisis
No therapist has ever explained anxiety to me like this movie did.
Why did it never occur to me to look at it as turning your imagination against you?
Im hoping this one will be as influential as the 2nd when it comes to discussing emotions and psyche for the next generation.
One thing I might nitpick, is the fact that all this series of events happend only during a hockey training camp, while the first dealt with so many things happening: moving to another city, new school, running away on the bus, etc. It is still a great movie and I had a really good time watching it at the cinema.
I remember at the end where joy is taking off the belief system that’s saying “I’m a good person” and there’s another system under it that has a lot of emotions like “I’m selfish” “I’m not good enough” “I’m the worst” and it really shows how much Riley was keeping inside by staying positive and I love that they have a message without telling the message which is very more believable then trying to shove it down your throat. MAN I LOVE THIS MOVIE
Best joke in the film really is the puberty joke. Them stopping halfway through tearing everything apart and saying "Eh.. we'll fix it later.." had me rolling. Like seriously that had me laughing so hard i had tears in my eyes.
My favorite part is that they made Ennui actually French.

I like the first Inside Out because I don't usually cry during movies but this one comes DANGEROUSLY close every time I watch it. I guess you could say its a real emotional rollercoaster (FIRST)
💯👍
@@chasehedges6775 I cried when Bing Bong disappeared during the first film after he helped Joy
I always had faith in this one I can't believe there was people that didn't
I actually never saw the first one until last night AFTER taking my son to watch the second one on his request.
The second movie hit me so hard in so many good ways and when we got home I insisted on watching the first one too. It’s an incredibly relatable movie because it’s not necessarily about a girl or a boy that’s hitting puberty and gaining all these new emotions. It’s about a person. What Riley’s going through isn’t gender coded to either side and everyone can see a little bit of themselves in the struggles and experiences she’s having and it’s just an incredibly well told story.
Just got back from Inside Out 2 and yeah, I liked it. Also I'm surprised you didn't bring up the emotion Nostalgia here, who surprisingly didn't get that much screen time as I thought she would. Hopefully in the sequel she'll have her time to shine
I like that her saying "I'll be downstairs" and Anxiety saying they don't need her yet implies there's even more emotions that we haven't met yet that'll show up in Riley's mind as she grows older
I forget, what was that “last second” that you feel makes things end on too perfect of a note?
it’s implied she made the varsity hockey team whenever she really shouldn’t have because of how she played in the last game since she was playing with rage and selfishness because of what Anxiety was doing
I feel like the next one could be about her becoming a mother of her own and the stresses of taking care of your own child. That isn't really explored with Rileys parents very much because Riley was a pretty happy girl throughout her childhood life for the most part. I've seen my sister go through these things with her son, and he is socially disabled. She wants to give up some days, she gets depressed, she doesn't know what to do to help him sometimes, but in the end she wants him more than anything to succeed. It's very conflicting to feel like you love something that annoys the crap out of you.
Spoilers but honestly think the best part of the movie is when Riley starts to have her first big panic attack at the climax, because as a person who really struggles with anxiety even outside of school during the summer for almost no reason at all. That got me emotional to the point I started crying, up until the movie ended, also since I brought my mom to see the movie by the climax I could also tell that my mom was kind of tearing up too. Which totally suprised me because, yes my mom (and both of my parents in general) certainly can cry. I was not expecting her to tear up in a movie theater along with me while watching a movie from the same company as Mickey fricking mouse. Like I sort of expected myself to cry at the climax, because I did when the first inside out movie released, and I’m pretty vulnerable to crying in certain situations, like for example my favorite show ending.
Once again, Pixar shows that it still has what it takes to make great films.
I'm really happy they didn't screw this one up. It's been a really long time since I wasn't disappointed by Disney or Pixar
even Spock had to learn that though logic can nudge and suggest your course, it is your emotions in the driving seat.
So Disney's at a shot at redemption?!
Inside Out is S tier for me
Inside Out 2 is A++ for me .
I'm also incredibly bias because Sadness is my favorite emotion of the 10 and the message of how sadness is needed for a healthy mind and it helps you appreciate joy hits way to close to home on a personal level.
On the other hand, Anxiety is also a heavy hitter personally for me, the heavy breathing, Riley hitting herself with her hockey stick, the whirlwind that was anxiety and having to "let go " was spot on. The only gripe I had with the film, and its a VERY SMALL gripe, is that Inside Out (the original) had moments where it slowed down and you took a step back from the emotional chaos, it was few but it was there. Like the Joy ice skating scene or the conclusion where sadness holds the core memories...it was just..slow.. silent.. somber. Just hit a bit different.
Inside Out 2 is very well paced but we don't stay still, even the semi quiet moments feel fast (joy breaking down or her with the sense of self in the pile of bad memories) were still rushed because Anxiety is causing havoc. Which in turn..fits the theme , intentional or not.
Either way, I still fucking loved this movie and going to see it probably 1 or 2 more times.
I'm going to see this with my partner soon and I'm so relieved to hear it's actually good. When I saw the first one I cried alot, even back to the car on the way home. I was entering my final year of high school and was feeling so much stress and upset and that film was a comfort and just let me deflate with all the upset and pain. And now I think this has come out at the right time for me again. I hope Pixar and Disney see how people react to this and take notes on how to improve going forward because i dont want to lose either. Both have brought me so much comfort and joy that if they were to fall i don't know how I'd cope
i watched till you say "surpass it" ill watch it and come back for the rest
Cameback after watchign it, is THAT good. But DOug my man, you need to put an spoiiler alert.... Is a movie preferly to go blind
I love the beginning and the ending. I do not like the middle chunks at all, which is pretty rare for me.
So far, Inside Out is the only movie I can think of that I'd want a full trilogy. The 3rd movie would be Riley going off to college, and the emotion Love would pop up, and the gang would have to deal with that in some way.
(Side note, this movie got me thinking, I wonder how they would show/handle someone going through dementia. That sounds very compelling to me personally)
My biggest fear with this is that the studio will look at this one single win and go, "See! We know what we're doing!" and then continue to make crap.
I was in between. There were good and bad moments, but it really came together for me when the climax started. While I agree the ending was "too perfect" as Doug said, but I personally couldn't see it going any other way, except leave it ambiguous and cut before Riley looks at her phone. Those are usually the best alternative ending
Maya Hawke is honestly the exact right voice for Anxiety. You really just want to hug her. Between this and Last Wish, I appreciate the focus in mainstream animated films to actively talk about the internal struggle of a panic attack, and the support a person having one needs. The only issue I have with taking these films further is that by definition, in order to have a compelling story, Riley is going to have to undergo even further severe trauma (what's a good follow-up for One's depression and Two's anxiety?).
I loved how descriptive the panic attack was. Sometimes it really can feel like you can’t breathe.
Disney and Pixar wins when they don’t get political and focus on story and characters. There doesn’t have to be lesbian trans people all over the place all the time.
I honestly think they can get two more movie, the next one is adulthood, maybe finding love dealing with living on you own now, and the last could be her as a grandma dealing with the being at the end of your life and knowing time is coming to an end
Both of those sound great!!
Short answer: no
Long answer: nooooooo!
Disney, make more movies like this or I'll force you to listen to ONLY the Triple Dent gum theme mashed up with Wish's """""Soundtrack"""""
We need more Incredibles sequels too.
As long as there's a villain that's as good as Syndrome. Screenslaver had a cool design but she sucked as a villain.
I didn’t actually watch this video I just clicked on it to give it views
For me, this made it to the top 10 best Pixar films. (Original Inside Out is #1 for me as well.)
Emotions are like onions, they have layers (which is why I like to eat them).
They should just make a whole franchise ending with a movie about Riley as an old lady.
For the 3rd movie my two leading ideas would be either Riley experiencing death for the first time (like a grandparent dying) and the new emotion could be grief (and nostalgia can come back) Or there is a very popular theory that Riley is adopted so maybe the 3rd movie could tackle that.
I'm so excited to see this movie tomorrow with my little cousins. I'm definitely that it lives up to the original installment.
Same. It looks like it'll be good
I'm so glad I saw this with my kid, who has been struggling with anxiety. Now he sees it. Thank you Pixar, 10/10
Honestly, I think anxiety best supports Disney in this one as it was unsure if this films gonna be a hit or miss!😂
So Inside Out 2 is like Shrek 2 and Toy Story 2? Sounds great! I can't wait to see it when it comes out on Disney +
