Rob Halford is more than a singer. He is a vocal artist. I have seen them perform VOC many times over the years and he always makes subtle changes each time he sings the song. He keeps it interesting. He is, for me, a top 3 singer, regardless of genre.

Robert Halford in his day (1973/1980) had a range of over six octaves. Six. And he SANG at those high ranges. Not just squealing or screaming, he SANG. If you can find the Tokyo 1978 for Japanese TV rendition of "Beyond The Realms Of Death", do yerselves a favour and lend your ears to it. It'll expand your horizons to what we kids had to go through in the seventies.

Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Triumph, Scorpions and Van Halen closed out the night. Day 2 (Sunday, May 29th 1983) was dubbed “Heavy Metal Day,” with Quiet Riot; Mötley Crüe; Ozzy Osbourne; Judas Priest; Triumph, Scorpions; and Van Halen.
VAN HALEN set a record $1.5 million to play Day 2 ("Heavy Metal Day") of Apple founder Steve Wozniak's US Festival, the second and final year of the event. It's the most any act has ever been paid for a single performance.
The last day the bill was exclusively hard rock bands, and the crowd grew to a stunning 600,000 which was a shock to everyone, not at least the bands themselves.

Priest has come along way with many different songs, as they are always different with each album, which keeps them fresh and relevant !
Diamonds and rust live with Ripper Owens ( Different singer ) singing from Live in London is a mind blower, also The Sentinel live from their 86 show, The official video to Touch Of Evil is awesome , and even one from their last album Fire Power titled Spectre .

This was the '83 US Festival, in Devore Ca.......it was a 3-day event with each day representing a different genre of popular music....this was Hard Rock/Heavy Metal day, and there was well over 300,000 people in the crowd, that day.....I've heard some estimates that indicate closer to half a mil!
The lineup for that day was, in order: Quiet Riot, Motley Crue, Triumph, Judas Priest, Ozzy Osborne, Scorpions and it finished with Van Halen!
Unfortunately, I wasn't there, but I know people that were...including my now wife!
However, i did see JP later, on their "Screaming For Vengeance" tour.....A friend dropped by and had an extra ticket....he drove and payed for everything.....blessed! (Of that lineup, I have also seen The Scorpions and Van Halen, at different times)
And I will recommend more Priest for you to check out....which is from that album for which I saw them on tour: "Hellion/Electric Eye"!

Painkiller is such a horrible introduction to Priest. I'm not saying it's a horrible song but Priest, especially in their prime were on another level. Their older music had so much more depth to it. Just as an example the album Sin After Sin is a phenomenal example of the many different facets of their work. Painkiller is just straight speed and a great example of Halfords screams, but Halford can do so much more than just scream. One or two video's you should check out are very early Priest performing on the BBC and the two songs are Rocka Rolla and Dreamer Deceiver.

Rob Halford aka "metal God." Another banger from the eighties to consider from a different band would be Queensrÿche and the song ,Take Hold of the Flame. Amazing vocals and the best version to watch is Live in Tokyo 1984. Judas priest are the godfathers of metal as they took the blues out of it and made it pure metal.🤘

Priest has one of the most diverse catalogs in metal around. one minute theyll have the power of Painkiller the next youll have the melodies of Desert Plains or Diamonds and Rust. you really need to expand your listening to their multiple album choice, especially their albums before the Turbo album. Rocka Rolla and Sad Wings of Destiny are very bluesey, while Stained Class, Point of Entry and British Steel are a little harder, then you have Screaming for Vengeane and Defenders of Faith which really hit HARD.
