As a 15-year old, the British Steel album hooked me onto Judas Priest. I then discovered the back catalog of great songs that were not big commercial hits. However, myself and many others agree that those songs are what make Priest an all-time favorite band.
This is the song that turned me on to Priest 40 years ago. I had been hooked on prog rock like Rush, Yes, King Crimson, etc, and hadn't thought to give Judas Priest the time of day, and then a friend played this for me. They've been among my favorite bands ever since. Just last week my son and I went to see them in Huntsville, AL, and they are still amazing. They played this song, and it was the high point of the show for me.
This was my first Priest song. I was maybe 14, buddy was 16. Out riding our bikes, looking for beer cans, we collected different kinds. He found a cassette, tape had broken, and they tossed it out the window. He took it home and patched it up and we listened... blown away by this. Next time we went to a store that had a good selection, he shows me this album. "do ya think this is it?"... So we got home, put it on and YES! This is how we discovered them, been listening to them ever since. I'm 59 and still jamming to them. All hail the 'Priest!
My wife's 1st cousin wrote "You've Got Another Thing Coming" as an entry for a radio station contest near Columbia, S.C. in the late 70s. It was more country and he was pissed at his gf at the time. Mike Raley...RIP. He got $50 and that was it. Song entered public domain and Judas bought it. It ruined his life. He tried to get something, even just recognition, from JP. No they said. Bugger off! His weakness in never achieving another song that made it drove him to odd jobs and drinking. Amazing how something so seemingly insignificant can overwhelm a person. Side effects of alcohol, lots of alcohol, liver/kidney failures, killed him about 6-7 yrs ago. Was a good guy. All true. RIP Mike.
I just listened to Painkiller for the first time. I enjoyed it. I'm checking out the rest of the album. BTW, I'm sixty-five and for some reason was never a Judas Priest fan. That may change.
Priest are called the Metal Gods. They have 19 good to great studio albums you will not be disappointed. 19 came out this year 50yrs after their 1st in 1974.
One of my favorite Priest songs. The entire album, Sad Wings of Destiny, is incredible. Not a bad song. In my opinion, the best Priest album. You should listen to Dreamer Deceiver and Deceiver next.
Your reactions are great. The crazy thing is the band are still performing this awesome song 48 years after it was first done for Sad Wings of Destiny ! Rob is a Metal God xx
This is how you metal. 🤘🧙♂🤘 This album stands alone as a masterpiece for Priest. Everything they've done since, is an attempt to recapture this level of 🤘🤘, They just released a new album a few months ago, it fucking rocks. Not for a band of guys in their 70's, it just rocks. I'm very fortunate to have seen them in 1983 at The US Festival, just a few weeks before I turned 17. Perfect.
They just realeased an album this year. the lead singer is like 72 and still sounds amazing. These guys have about 10 15 hits I guarantee youve heard them but didn't know. Like breaking the law or you've got another thing comin'
Judas Priest has been around for a loooong time. They are still producing new music and out there touring. This early period of Priest is very bluesy....more hard rock.......Keep going in their album collection and they get heavier and heavier....to become the original Heavy Metal band....... Also like someone mentioned you guys should listen to "Painkiller" off their Painkiller album next......it is fast, hard and will melt your face off. "Freewheel Burning is also an amazing song by them.
There are many types of metal. I have come to enjoy many types. Heavy metal is my fave, but I also love Meshuggah. I listen to New Millenium Cyanide Christ and play Wordle. It helps me relax and concentrate. I know this isn't how many people view Meshuggah, but this is my desert island relaxation tune. lol
ah yeah! check out the live version of this on "Unleashed in the East", the entire album is outstanding and has most of my favorite versions of their songs.
For me, the 1978 Stained Class album is the ultimate Priest album. No, it doesn't have their hits from the 80s. But I'm not nearly as into those songs. Yeah, they're bangers, but if you want to hear the stunning dual guitar attacks of K.K. Downing and Glen Tipton, this album does it. There isn't a bad song on there. I'm with @andrearodriguez, Beyond The Realms of Death. It is a power ballad that other so-called power ballads would like to be. Mellow, then searing. Then mellow, then searing. Both Downing and Tipton have solos. Or Saints In Hell. I particularly loved that song because I bought the album while I was attending a Mormon junior college. Mormons refer to themselves colloquially as "saints". The intro to Saints In Hell will burn your face off. Of course, the louder you play it, the greater the effect. 😉 You absolutely cannot go wrong with either song.
Hello Gentlemen, old white dude here. The Classic Metal bands were huge fans of the American Blues Masters. I love the old Black Blues musicians - I can't get enough of them. Do you listen the old classic Blues?
I love Robert Johnson ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I always wondered where it all began, that's how I learned about him , Stevie Ray Vaughn is my love and Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland and Stevie is my song
Judas Priest was the first band in the 70's to actually fully embrace the term Heavy Metal. all the others at the time refused to accept the term . Songs to check out next would be Breaking The Law, Youve Got Another Thiung Coming and Living After Midnight.
From the blues came rock. Through the 70s it got heavier and heavier. The guitar became as important as the singer. Priest were definitely at the forefront of metal before it was even a thing.
You HAVE to listen to and WATCH the live version at the 1983 US FESTIVAL - CA concert! It's the only way!! I'll be looking for your re-reaction. 😊 Love you guys and what you do!❤
Unleashed In The East (live) is my favorite Priest album but Sad Wings of Destiny, Sin After Sin, Stained Class, Hell Bent for Leather, British Steel, Point of Entry and even Screaming for Vengeance are worth a listen. Nothing wrong with albums after Screaming for Vengeance but for me it’s a very different Priest sound.
Wikipedia: The American director Rob Reiner went to see Judas Priest in concert as part of his preparation for making the film This Is Spinal Tap (1984), which spoofs British heavy metal bands.[181] The drama-comedy film Rock Star (2001), starring Mark Wahlberg, is loosely based on the story of how Tim "Ripper" Owens replaced Rob Halford as the vocalist in Judas Priest. On 5 January 2014, the band appeared in the episode "Steal This Episode" of comedy cartoon show The Simpsons playing a parody of their song "Breaking the Law". Their music was referred to as "death metal",[242] for which the producers subsequently apologised by having Bart Simpson write "Judas Priest is not 'Death Metal'" in the opening sequence chalkboard gag.[243]
I love this song, my favorite by Priest. That slowpart brings memories back of me walking the streets of my highrise hometown by night, run away from home, cops, the original "walkman",.... long story. But like i said, one of those songs that takes you back. So well, i can almost smell it. (ps:i was 14, so don't judge me *g)
Rob Halford and Priest just put out a new album. I saw them live in 1982 and I'm telling you straight. Rob Halford's vocal ability is still amazing today. The new album is fantastic. Try Panic Attack on the new album.
Love, Love, Love Judas Priest! You have absolutely got to check out the Unleashed In The East album, this song is FIRE on that album, followed by Diamonds And Rust. That album was definitely the Soundtrack of My Youth and that was in the late 80's early 90's many years after its Sept 1979 release. The US Festival video from 1983 is also a Judas Priest Must that contains a live version of this song. Thanks for this one guys!
Wikipedia: Singer Robert John Arthur Halford was born on 25 August 1951[7] in Sutton Coldfield. He grew up in nearby Walsall, where he was raised on the Beechdale housing estate,[12] which was also home to Noddy Holder.[13] Noddy Holder, lead singer for Slade, "Mama Weer All Crazee Now", "Cum On Feel the Noize" and "Merry Xmas Everybody". After leaving Slade in 1992, he diversified into television and radio work, notably starring in the ITV comedy-drama series The Grimleys (1999-2001). "Cum On Feel the Noize" is a song by the English rock band Slade, which was released in 1973 as a non-album single. It was written by lead vocalist Noddy Holder and bassist Jim Lea, and produced by Chas Chandler, manager of Jimi Hendrix. It reached No. 1 in the UK Singles Chart, giving the band their fourth number one single, and remained in the charts for twelve weeks.[6] The song was included on the band's 1973 compilation album Sladest.[7] In a UK poll in 2015 it was voted 15th on the ITV special The Nation's Favourite 70s Number One.[8] In 1983, the American heavy metal band Quiet Riot recorded their own version of the song, which was a million-selling hit single in the United States, reaching No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. British group Oasis covered the song which was released as a B-side on their 1996 hit single "Don't Look Back in Anger" and regularly played it live.[9] Bryan James "Chas" Chandler (18 December 1938 - 17 July 1996)[1] was an English musician, record producer and manager, best known as the original bassist in The Animals, for which he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994. He also managed the band Slade, and Jimi Hendrix, about whom he was regularly interviewed until Chandler's death in 1996.
I've been down the rabbit hole a few time of just watching reaction videos for this song. It really is one of the best reaction songs of all time. I think this is their best album, but it is one that never got any radio play. Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver from this same album is the next reaction to do from them. Then maybe Hellion/Electric Eye from Screaming for Vengeance. Their entire live performance from the 1983 US Festival is epic.
OK, Judas Priest is one of the original heavy metal bands and revolutionized what Black Sabbath and Deep Purple were doing in the 70's into a streamlined, leather-clad, powerful music genre in the 80's. Judas Priest debuted in 1974 w/ the album 'Rocka Rolla'... and never made the same album twice... Early records like this one ('Sad wings of destiny' in 1976) had potential but did not capture what the band would be capable of... Their 1979 live album 'Unleashed in the East' was a remarkable representation of how they sounded in concert. The core of the classic band was: Rob Halford (vocals), Glenn Tipton & K.K. Downing (guitars), and Ian Hill (bass)... they went through a few drummers, including (the late) Dave Holland and Scott Travis. In 1980, Priest scored 2 of their biggest singles - 'Breaking the law' ... 'Living after midnight'... from their 6th album 'British Steel'... and another major single came out in 1982 - "You've got another thing coming" from their 8th album 'Screaming for vengeance'. There were popular Judas Priest songs that they often performed live from their early records - 'Victim of changes'... 'The Ripper' ... 'Hell bent for leather' ... 'Beyond the realms of death'... 🤘🤘🔥🔥 Some of their 80's heavy metal songs were - 'Hellion/ Electric Eye' ... 'Love bites' ... 'Freewheel burning' ... 'Metal Gods' ... 'Turbo lover' ... 'Heading out to the highway' ... "The Sentinel" ... "I'm a rocker" Their 1990 album 'Painkiller'... was their angriest and most aggressive record to date. The song 'Painkiller' is a huge fave... as is 'A Touch of evil' ... 'Night crawler'. Priest did record 2 albums w/ American vocalist Tim 'Ripper' Owens after singer Rob Halford left the band in 1992 (He reunited w/ Priest in 2004) ... Priest songs w/ Owens - 'Hell is home' ... 'One on one' ... 'Bullet train' With Rob Halford back in Judas Priest from 2004 til today, some of the newer Priest songs - 'Judas rising' ... 'Angel' ... 'Gates of Valhalla' ... 'Death' ... 'Firepower' ... 'Panic Attack'...
Their best songs came in the next album from them called Stained Class. Every song on that album is incredible. You guys will love the melodies and raw power.
Judas Priest's biggest songs are probably Breaking the Law, You Got Another Thing Coming or Living After Midnight. That's entry level Judas Priest. You guys started off on the deeper end of the pool. Personally I think Victim Of Changes is JP's all time best song, period. I think their best songs are from the 70's and early 80's and the most recent Invincible Shield and Firepower. Beyond The Realms Of Death, The Sinner, The Green Manilishi (with the 2 prong crown), Exciter, The Ripper, Tyrant, Deliverin The Goods, Hellbent For Leather, The Hellion/ Electric Eye, The Sentinel, Freewheel Burning. The List is super long. Don't do Painkiller, yet. That's the deeper end of the Judas Priest pool. And they are in the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame.
Thank you for excellent video and reaction. I would recommend watching Priest live set at the 1983 US Festival and see them on fire. You love this song, I suggest you try "Beyond the Realms of Death" by them, a haunting ballad, with the greatest metal guitar solo ever (1st solo).
I'm no big Judas fan but I watched em live in AL last week,it's probably 30 years since I last saw em back in Europe. But I gotta say they sure still can play awesome metal,so cudos to them.Sabaton opened, and the reason I was there......Damn,Sabaton are entertaining live.So more Sabaton on this amazing channel please.Stay safe gentlemen 👊
It's good to see someone reacting to some early priest. My favorite JP song is probably Burnin' Up from the Killing Machine/Hellbent for Leather album, but they did SO MANY great songs.
This is my first time seeing your channel and i had to subscribe and like this reaction, i really enjoyed your reactions to this epic song. Please go down the rabbit hole with Priest, imo they are the best band alive yesterday, today and forever
THE BEST PERIOD of Judas Priest in My opinion was from 78 onwards to 82 or so . However , i agree that they still do good stuff . It was the band we listende to while driving in 78-82 when I was a student
The live version of 'Victim of changes' is much better than the studio version... This track was from Judas Priest's 2nd album 'Sad wings of destiny' in 1976 and was recorded on a small UK label w/ a small budget... It wasn't a successful record commercially and Judas Priest was nearly bankrupt before an American label CBS Records signed the band in 1977 and were able to fund and develop them... put them on tour... until they broke big commercially in 1980 w/ their 6th studio album 'British Steel'. A standout live version of 'Victim of changes' was recorded on Priest's landmark 1979 live album 'Unleashed in the East'... Another would be from their 1982 concert video "Live vengeance '82"... One exceptional live version was from 2001, their 'Live in London' concert DVD w/ Tim 'Ripper' Owens on vocals, who had replaced original vocalist Rob Halford in Judas Priest from 1997 until 2003.
Beyond the Realms of Death is my favorite Judas Priest song. Rob’s voice is fire 🔥
Saw that song live twice. Perfection.
Great song... Especially the live versions.
The solo is the best part of the whole song tho
my fave too, along with "Sinner" from "Unleashed in the East".
Give it a rest
The ripper. And dreamer deceiver off this album.are fire too. Pain killer is intense. .
Priest are at the mountain top of metal bands. Rob Halford vocals is a God.
His vocals are a God ????
The best part of these reactions is sharing someones first time, brings an old guy back to a looong time ago.
It's good that y'all reacted to the early Priest first. They have great songs from every era of metal.
Yes !!!
As a 15-year old, the British Steel album hooked me onto Judas Priest. I then discovered the back catalog of great songs that were not big commercial hits. However, myself and many others agree that those songs are what make Priest an all-time favorite band.

They played this song, and it was the high point of the show for me.
It was 1987 for me! My neighbor was always introducing me to “new” music (new to me). I was in awe!!
I actually live outside of Huntsville and was so mad that I missed it. ☹️
Parent of the year nominee 🤘
My first time seeing JP was 1980,Def Leppard opened up for them(On Thru the Night) l probably paid 9/9'50 for that concert ticket
@@mrpotatohead2993 thanks! That was the second time I took him to see Priest. We saw them a couple of years ago in Southaven, MS.
Been rocking out to Priest since late '70s. Historic sound
I'm a year behind you. But yeah. Long time fan.
Judas Priest is easily in the top 5 Heavy Metal bands of all time
Maiden, Judas, Sabbath, Slayer....
Beyond the Realms of Death, You’ve Got Another Thing Coming, Turbo Lover, Diamonds and Rust, Island of Domination…❤️❤️❤️Judas Priest!!!
Yeah u lost me at Turbo Lover😂😂, the rest of them are badass choices 😎🤟😎🤟
Priest was a trendsetter for the New Wave of British Heavy Metal.
This song is a staple of any Priest fan's repertoire!! Love the appreciation for Halford's vocals and YES this entire album is FIRE!!!!
You have to see the live Preformance 1983 at US Festival. San Bernardino, CA, USA
"Painkiller" from Priest will melt your face off.
"You've got another thing coming" or "Electric eye" are probably my favourite song's from the band.
2nd that….
All true.
RIP Mike.

Unleashed in the East is the definitive version.
Yeah much better on Unleashed...
Thank you for playing my request!!!!😊
Thanks for the intro to Judas Priest!!! We are eternally grateful!!!
Dreamer/Deceiver BBC live 1973 is absolutely incredible, you should definitely check it out.
Old Judas Priest is the best. Keep going with them. My favorite is Desert Plains.
New album is so good
The Point of Entry album is underrated. Coming straight after the mighty British Steel didn’t help.
From Desert Plains I bring you love.❤
"Are you high????..... I WILL TAKE YOU HIGHER "
This is one of my favorite Priest songs and very underrated in their catalog
Underrated by who? Certainly not by the fans.
I just wanna smoke a joint and throw some of my 33’s on for Corey to trip on. Love you, brother. Thanks for giving peace a chance and nailing it.

A great track, even better Live (either Unleashed in the East version or from the US Festival in '83)....
Unleashed in the East is the best version for me🤘🏼
Best album of all time

I've been down the rabbit hole a few time of just watching reaction videos for this song. It really is one of the best reaction songs of all time. I think this is their best album, but it is one that never got any radio play. Dreamer Deceiver/Deceiver from this same album is the next reaction to do from them. Then maybe Hellion/Electric Eye from Screaming for Vengeance. Their entire live performance from the 1983 US Festival is epic.
The live versions of the songs on their early albums are even better.
Some of their 80's heavy metal songs were - 'Hellion/ Electric Eye' ... 'Love bites' ... 'Freewheel burning' ... 'Metal Gods' ... 'Turbo lover' ... 'Heading out to the highway' ... "The Sentinel" ... "I'm a rocker"
Their 1990 album 'Painkiller'... was their angriest and most aggressive record to date.
'Bullet train'
With Rob Halford back in Judas Priest from 2004 til today, some of the newer Priest songs - 'Judas rising' ... 'Angel' ... 'Gates of Valhalla' ... 'Death' ... 'Firepower' ... 'Panic Attack'...
About 50 years old...and they sound better today doing it.
Live from US fest is awesome on this. Cool to see 'em perform. Great job once again guys.
Their best songs came in the next album from them called Stained Class. Every song on that album is incredible. You guys will love the melodies and raw power.
Fire!! 🤘
You love this song, I suggest you try "Beyond the Realms of Death" by them, a haunting ballad, with the greatest metal guitar solo ever (1st solo).
start to finish judas priest stained class top 10 for me..
Well well we'll, next level of this song is view it live. They have this track live 83 US festival or unleashed in the East live album.
Love the take on metal music. Metal back in the 70’s and 80’s was so much better than than metal singing that came later with death and black metal.
It's good to see someone reacting to some early priest. My favorite JP song is probably Burnin' Up from the Killing Machine/Hellbent for Leather album, but they did SO MANY great songs.
Oh and we cant forget about The Green Manalishi.....another older, awesome song.
If any band was OPERATIC in rock, its Priest.
Dissident Aggressor off of Sin After Sin is another banger.
The Green Manalishie with the Three Prong Crown.
You've got another thing coming. It should be next. 80's Judas Priest.
