You absolutely nail it with the term "trigger press". Years ago a friend suggested that instead of thinking trigger pull, think pressing a button. Trigger press is even better. Always good info, Mickey, and always accurate. Many thanks.
I am not necessarily new to guns, but I have applied for my concealed carry permit. I probably won’t receive that for another 30 days or so. I have watched many many hours of training videos and spending time at the range. This UA-cam Channel is my favorite that I have seen. Everything from shooting fundamentals to which belt to use, etc. I really appreciate all the work that goes into this channel. Thank you.
Great video. I am a bit new to handguns and just recently bought one. I did notice I have been shooting low and to the left. Not always, but at least 50% of the time. I really like how you describe the pull and forced grip while pulling the trigger and the effect it has on the muzzle placement. I will definitely be using your technique and mindfulness of the rest of my hand. Thanks a ton for the video!
I carry in the summer the Shield, winter i carry the Smith 9c, i train with both, and you are absolutely correct about everything, hand size, finger placement, and grip. Looking forward to taking your course the next time its offered in Indiana. Seen a lot of Vids on the topics you discuss, but none explain the techniques like you. Great job bother
I have manged to have a real tight pattern but, just to the left of the X, so, the minor errors are still prevalent to the slightest errors of your grip or operation of your trigger operation.
" Work with focus "..I really have to think about what I'm doing, or I will " milk it " or tighten while firing..Little things mean a lot!..Excellent advice M........
Awesome video broski...seems to be a lot of hype over flat triggers and upgraded trigger bars. Being new to conceal carry and finally owning my own firearms don't have the experience to know if it's worth the money or just all smoke and mirrors...thank you for all you do
spend time with gun (empty) in hand and practice aiming by following the contours of door frames, furniture, windows, etc....and before long, your marksmanship will improve significantly. A tip I got from an experienced shooter. I do this for hours in the privacy of my home office while I watch NetFlix or surf the web. Dry fire....dry fire...dry fire. Get a laser too.. My 19-yr old daughter who's a new shooter can now out-shooter her two much older brothers by doing just a little of this sort of home training.
Thanks Mick. Great info as always. I see you are left eye dominant. Can you talk a little bit more about eye dominance and if a person needs to adjust anything in order to shoot well?
Can you make a vide specifically on how to shoot or find sights with both eyes open... it’s quite difficult to do since I can’t get the front sight and back sights aligned with both eyes open, still need to close one
Or you can sit in a chair, put your hand like your holding a pistol. Move your trigger finger back and forth. That helps me a lot,and when we go to the range it helps. Hits the target Everytime. Good Video.
I’m about to be a new gun owner, and on that point of trigger pull, is it all right to practice regularly unload ? Meaning does dry firing do anything to the mechanics when practicing the correct technique?
Does dryfire help you get better? Yes as long as your training it correctly. This is a catch 22 and a common issue. It's why I recommend a course of instruction to begin. Then you know you are instilling good data.
Don't take advice from any person who insists that you have to use the pad of your trigger finger on a handgun. They don't have enough real experience. Mickey has experience, listen to him.
I'm right handed and left eye dom (poor me =P) but my groups are high right. Any suggestions what is causing this? I've asked other people of the range and they sort of scratch their heads like me.
Great Advise. Don't disturb the sights. How to you truly know that you are not disturbing the sites? or at least pulling the trigger with minimal disturbance. I picked this tip up from great shooter. This is a great dry fire exercise. Make sure that the weapon is empty and clear. Take an empty shell casing. (380, 9mm or 40) and balance it on the front sight post. Way easier to do with a buddy. They can put the empty casing on the front sight post for you wile you aim. Aim the weapon in a safe direction while balancing casing on the front sight post. Pull the trigger. If the casing falls you are disturbing the sights too much. This will get any Leo a perfect score on the Requal.

what a lovely story on the end.. my grip is getting stronger.
I do an spent case. I have a .22 mag casing for when I’m feeling super stable. Great series!
Very good info, I have some stuff to work on
something that helped me was not to squeeze like squeezing a round object(pipe) but squeeze front to back (thanks ernest)
Mickey you might seriously replace Chuck Norris in my book, keep it up bro
Great Video! Simple and effective. New shooters can benefit from this video immensely!

Righthand dominate and sights go to left eye. Does that make you left eye dominant?
Yup Mick You are a FANTASTIC instructor wish you would come to Long Island...Thanks for taking the time...👍
Thanks for sharing.
I just found this channel and love your advice. Thanks for all you do.
Nice work!

I absolutely love this guy! Great lessons and tips made fun!

Welp, guess I gotta go buy a double action now. Thanks mick.
Great intel brother.
The story you told at the end gave me the chills
Been searching for any story about it can’t find a single thing about it
FANTASTIC VIDEO!!

We have numerous on the topic

Beside the point, but Mickey, are you cross dominant for hand/eye?
I place a penny on my front sight and attempt to dry fire without knocking said penny off

I started using a dime, same principle just smaller, lighter.

@@CarryTrainer Thanks.
I'm left handed and I have a taurus g2. Would u be able to use one of those?

Mickey has experience, listen to him.
Mick, are you cross eye dominant?
Yes
As a new shooter I am nervous in anticipation of the big BANG! ... it messes with my head!
Check out Silverado Shooting Academy's video on mastering the handgun. They talk specifically about the flinch reflex in new shooters.
Oh, he's smooth.... making me want to buy another gun.... 😏😏😏🤣🤣
LMAO that ending.
It's not a joke.
I think one of these videos need an intro to "In the Air Tonight"
Love you
3:04 that’s what she said 😏. Love the vids! Keep em coming! Great info!
I came down here to make this same joke. "Get it in there good and deep" is my new favorite gun phrase haha
The end of the vid Mickey turns into "Scary Trainer"
I'm right handed and left eye dom (poor me =P) but my groups are high right. Any suggestions what is causing this? I've asked other people of the range and they sort of scratch their heads like me.
Kev M-Lo most likely relaxing/breaking your wrist up when pulling the trigger. I have the same issue at times. Load some dummy rounds, you’ll see it!
Love the outro haha "carry trainer .com don't be a dick head"
You’re left eye dominant aren’t you? @CarryTrainer
If I had a nickel every time someone thought eye dominance mattered

An old trick. In reality, you can easily see if there is movement
Hold the front door. You can't drop a story like that at the end without telling us enough to be able to find a source on that!
I balance the tip of a needle on my front sight and try to pull the trigger without it falling off.
Jk
Oh, I’ll put it in there nice and deep all right...
Real’nice & deep’like.
👉🏻🌮
Dodgeball? anybody?
