“You can be aware of someone sticking a knife in your gut.” I had a similar experience that changed my outlook. I was walking home from a late night movie through a well lit city park with my partner when two men came the other way down the path and as they approached, they separated to go on either side of us. I was aware of them coming well before they changed their approach. It was night, in a big city, in an area where crime wasn’t unheard of, in a park. I was also aware when they separated and remember thinking “this is bad” but that’s as far as I went. I was acutely aware a moment later when one of them pulled a gun and pushed it into my partner’s chest and demanded our money. ‘Active Self Protection’ channel has his Rules of Stupid: Don’t do stupid things in stupid places at stupid times with stupid people. You can usually break one of those with relative impunity. I broke two that night: stupid place at stupid time. So my first fix should have been take another route from the beginning. Notwithstanding that, there was also time at that first awareness to casually go the other way and exit the park immediately. Then there was time when they started to separate for us to run away. And finally, I was just completely unprepared for the gun when it came to that. Be aware, listen to your gut, formulate a plan within your available tools and skill set, and execute. And if your skill set is lacking, work on that. Be safe.
7:05 1. Don't specify gender. Is it ok if another woman does it? If your a guy is it ok for people to get that close to you? "Don't let strangers into you personal space." would be a better way to say that. 2. "No gentleman will ever put a young lady in fear for her life of wellbeing" Wrong! There are people out there who will freak out and be in fear for there life if they catch a glimpse of a gun, If you say something they don't like, or if your big, tall, or come of as intimidating to them. If you put someone if fear for there life it isn't necessarily your fault.
Mick - I can’t begin to tell you the number of times I’ve patted myself on the back because I was so in the moment, and so situationally aware, and so absent an accompanying plan of action that was both consistent with my actual skill level, and appropriate to the perceived threat . . . Thank you for bringing a strong dose realism to the big picture. A picture that often will call upon a great deal more than a comfortably acquired sight picture.
Great video, every chance I get I try to instill in my wife and kids the importance of staying aware, focused, and being confident, the idea is to not get selected in the first place . The only thing more bad ass than that Microtech OTF is your consistent dedication to helping others . Thanks mickey drew and everyone associated with carry trainer .
I keep thinking I have that bubble of total awareness. But then I wake up and find I've been drooling on the keyboard, or the pillow. Did you ever find yourself at work and suddenly realize you're holding a mug of coffee you don't remember pouring, and you're talking with a workmate, but you don't remember how you started the sentence? Did I just write this? ¡=ºb
Hey Mickey great video. Especially the portion mentioning the lack of a gun or a place wherein you can't carry a firearm. Maybe a video of other forms of self defense or even tools for self defense that can be crafted any country or so. Some Macgyer reference wig with it would be funny and informative Thanks for all the great videos and tutorials that you have.
I love your realistic philosophies Mick. Yes, as much as we all would like to, we're not gonna be able to carry 100% of the time. In fact, in my state after 3 infractions like that you'll lose your CCL
Body language is key! I caught you go for your knife while talking and I figured something was coming. By the way, I just came across your channel this morning. Love the videos. You've earned another subscriber.
I have shared a few of your videos with my Aunt who is just getting into firearms. I have been training her on how to use her firearm safely and effectively and found a video of yours that reinforced everything that I told her a few days ago and shared it with her. I found this channel about a week ago and immediately subscribed. Great content and professional lessons. I hope your channel continues to grow because people need to be as informed as they possibly can about firearms and their right to protect themselves and the people around them. I like how you give insight on different ideas and points of view for many different circumstances across all of your videos.
Love mickeys midwestern dialect sounds just like me a (Wisconsinite ) This series is great!! Hope to head down to flatlanderville and get some training😎Mick may get the reference to flat lander lol.
Been watching alot of yur vids...very informative.. Would like to take firearm ccw class but i missed the one in terra haute...its only an hour away ..i live in georgetown il. Ill try to catch the next one yu have at top gun ind. What would i need for yur class and cost? Plz n ty..for info
I was sure that right hand is not just full around. I was working as personal security for many years. after that I need to stop with my paranoic way of thinking and looking around. That take to much energy from me.
I have observed and had to cross to the opposite side of the street many times and carefully observe if my moves were duplicated by the perceived threat. Ahhh..the good life in the big city!
and what is up with this 85K. Not that I'm some youtube know it all, but I have come across a few channels over the years. And none are as informative as this one, and with very professional instruction to top it off. It bothers me how this channel doesn't have more subscribers. lol
I've noticed that when people don't have someone trying to kill them, they tend to relax and not worry so much. There will be time to relax when I'm dead.
Also, the fact that I live in a nice "higher income" neighborhood makes me take home security even. more. seriously. Broke people aren't going to rob their poor neighbor because they don't have anything of value either, they'll come rob my neighborhood's. My parents apparently disagree with me sadly, which is why I took home security in my hands, making sure the house is locked every single night before I go to sleep, and waiting to get my shotgun in 2 weeks.
"Awareness is the currency with which we buy time to act"....okay, that's an awesome quote.

Excellent points for all. I share these with my Granddaughters all the time. You must have a mental standard along with a good plan !!

I can't help but follow peoples hands. Even watching you in this video I watch your hands. Everytime you moved to the pocket I was watching.
Good stuff

Thank you- caught the last knife draw near the 7 minute mark, but I’m still dead without action.
That limb from limb with an axe story was pretty rough I remember that inspiring though

It's hard to conceal carry in Chicago...unfortunately
Mike.
I like the knife. Can you provide the info about it?
Thank you
I spend a lot of time in other countries. One of first things that I do is stop by the local market and pick up some cheap defective tools.
I’m beginning to shop for tactical pants. What you rockin Mick?
LOL now I understand, all the tape

GENTLEman means respect for other people, and treating them as such. (NO MATTER THEIR AGE).
Great message! What knife is that you're using?
Microtech
The Woman at the end was like “okay calm down Mick” haha

Gun content is severely deranked in the UA-cam algorithm. Unless we like and share the videos no one knows it exists.
86 now
Nice Microtech 🔪

Are you here in Indiana?
I saw that coming, but then it’s not hard on a 1 x 2 inch screen.
Mickey and John Lovell should do a collab
Is that the bag Kentucky Ballistics shot up? Lol
No idea who that is
@@CarryTrainer should check him out on youtube. Just fun stuff. He has Jerry Miculek on sometimes.
What knife is that? If I may ask
It’s a Microtech, not sure of the specific model.

Again with the star wars intro music 🤣
rip that punching bag lmao wtf did that poor thing do to you LOL
So the guy didn't do anything to her except to scare her. Makes you wonder ...I guess he just did it for the thrill and to make her scared.
"Must have skill" and it's a thumbnail of at least one eyeball. Yeah no shit!
All so very true but, don't forget to add a total awareness of scumbag politicians.
Yep
In all fairness you didn't say go before you stabbed your dummy... Just saying it's not fair...
I hate this video. Good message Mickey.
