Geoff taught me the Indian technique- don’t bother with the braves go straight to the chief Legend of a man and unlike the stereotypes he’s associated with. Massive respect 👌🏻👍🏼
I used to go to Matty's grappling class at the AT7 a long time ago now, Geoff had retired from teaching by then, just doing some seminars I think. I went to John Anderson's self defence striking class once or twice but I was more into grappling back then, all top lads there, John was really powerful he'd knock dust off the pads punching them.
I trained under geoff achieving my 4th degree black belt in his Real Combat System. Geoff is a gentleman and one of the kindest people I have ever had the pleasure of sharing space with. He is also a legitimate fucking wrecking machine. Devastating speed, power and accuracy. He is an even greater man. We share a love of writing we both become authors and I owe alot of my success both as a author and martial artist to Geoff. Thank you Sensei
Proper legend Geoff is. Never judge books by appearance is for sure on him. Always love a good bully hiding. He’s very aware of caging emotions to get done what’s needed. A gentleman aswell by all accounts with his own pain he used to his advantage. Another good one Ben👌excellent work pal👊❤️✌️
Grew up in cov and left in the mid 90s. The 80s was rough in town, guaranteed fights every weekend and usually week nights too. The Burges always kicked off after the clubs shut....still, no one would say boo to the woman behind the counter of the Parson's Nose, she looked fierce as fuck 😄
As someone who has had more fights over the last 40 years than i can remember, it was nice to hear someone speak words about how he felt pre fight, they all rang so true!!i always go out with the mindset that you can be attacked any moment for no reason, always expect the unexpected and you'll always be mentally/phsically ready when it does, it doesn't mean you'll always win,but atleast you'll be ready when it comes, best advice i was given by one of the toughest men i ever knew, the fight is the last thing you wanna do,but at the same time, never make it look like you don't wanna fight, let them know you're happy to fight, almost all bullies don't really wanna fight with someone who they can't scare, someone they can't mentally defeat, the fight wll often end before it's even begun, once they see your happy to fight, their fight usually all dies down to "you're not worth doing time for" etc etc,it's so easy for a any weapon, wether it's a knife, gun, fist or feet,to end you,no matter how tough you are,,the fights were i've really come unstuck, were the ones i pursued when i should've let them go,it did'n't happen often before i seen the pattern,i soon wised up! i'd never listened to any of geoff's stories, this won't be the last one.
Geoff grew up in the same area of Coventry as me and saw him on the doors of pubs and clubs in Coventry. Always got on well with him but he was the real deal and knew not to upset him ! I went a few years back to one of his talks as he had become a top writer etc, and you could see he had changed. As a writer myself I learnt a lot from Geoff as he is a good motivational speaker, and it's great to see him doing well these days.
I remember coventry bouncers in the 80s. They weren't happy unless they'd knocked out some lippy drunk at least once a night. Full of ego and self importance. Browns , Bug and black bat , Busters , Tamango's . Park lane ,silver Sword , even the hollyheads doormen were absolute savage bullies . No wonder they were despised .

Another great video. Having read, Watch my back, many years ago , i attented a course ran by Geoff. He was an incredible martial artist and a true gentleman.
Busters was my favoured haunt, mid - late '80's. Especially Tuesday indie/alternative night when I could make it but otherwise most weekends. I distinctly remember Johnny A, the bouncer I just thought looked like Maurice Hope and 'no neck' Maynard but strangely don't recall Geoff!
Geoff was a friend of my dads and my karate instructor. If you didn't already know about him , you would never know how much of a highly trained and practiced martial artist he is. The most polite and humble person in the world.
Out of all the books i read as 16 year old reading Geoff's watch my back in 2002 really struck cord with me ,Does some great videos of self defence too and you can just see he knows what hes talking about.

Glad I got out of Cov as soon as I left school. Born in Hillfields and raised close to Willenhall. Too bloody close. Glad I got out. The place has turned into a bigger shithole than it was back then.
Geoff's autobiography "watch my back" is an excellent read. Also his various self help books are good- I found that unlike a lot of those types of books, they actually work (or at least they did for me). If you like British gangster/crime films, watch Geoffs film "clubbed".
This story is a little disturbing. A guy is having a drink in a pub and, having refused to leave, is then beaten unconscious. Maybe I missed something but if he was barred then how come he got served in the first place? Having been served - by mistake it would seem, if he was barred - wouldn't it have been more civilised, and less likely to cause the situation to escalate unnecessarily, to let him finish his drink and then refuse to serve him another? If he got abusive or violent then indeed it might be time to step in, or, better still, call the police. Another thing: punching someone on the jaw with an ungloved hand is likely to injure your hand, rendering you less able to punch again with that hand.
I drank in pubs without bouncers (In Dublin). Anyone coming causing trouble would have to face the whole bar. In all my years I only ever once saw trouble, a gang from another part of town thought they were messing with university students. Mistake! They never came back, despite their threats as they ran away, after meeting the concerted, and for them unexpected, ferocious resistance of a bunch of lads who valued enjoying a peaceful night out together. Meanwhile, in the pubs with bouncers, there was trouble every night.
In Weymouth in the 70’s (UK)There was a guy that was a Doorman/ Bouncer. There was a certain night when the slade were appearing. Well! The place was packed with Skinheads. And as you would expect it kicked off. This Bouncer was 6ft 5inches. And built like a Sh@#£&*. The Skinheads were jumping on him. But gradually he got the better of them. And then it began! He was smashing their heads together, truly! It was sickening. And then picking them up and running them at a closed glass door. These were not! Young idiots! Some of these guys were older stronger guys. He was picking them up like they were rag dolls. They were all on a heap outside of the Pavilion. I have never seen anything like it. It was frightening. I’m only glad that I knew this guy. Strong men? Believe it you have never seen anything like this guy. In a supposedly quiet little seaside town. I will never forget it.I’m now 78. And I have never seen anything like the strength of this Guy. Trust me,there were no Martial Arts, no finesse, he was an absolute Machine. A wrecking ball. I’m not sure if he is still alive. But he was the strongest guy I had ever seen. An absolute beast. God bless him

One of the best books IMO, I remember reading Watch My Back in around 2003/2004 - may have loosely based some GCSE English coursework on it 😂👌 I got a C
I became friends with Bill because our girlfriends are friends and he’s the typical Shakespearian trained theatre type actor and has bundles of character, sort of a cross between Sir Lawrence Olivier and the Withnail character played by Richard E Grant. Ten minutes after meeting him I had a neat glass of very expensive scotch in one hand and a spliff the size of a McDonalds straw in the other. Once we were comfortably pissed he showed me his collection of old English 6 foot long bows and arrows that he would hand make himself so we obviously ended up in the garden firing arrows into giant bullseyes and nearly shot each other 3 or 4 times! Fantastic night with a fantastic character. 🏹🎯🥃
Rob Jones did the door with Geoff an was head security at Owen Owen, lol hard as nails lol. Some hard bloke's can out of Coventry Tony B Dave L to many to name but if you kno you kno 😂
What a great story, well told. I wet my pants just listening to it. Were the names changed to protect the innocent? I don't know a pub in Coventry called The Lion?
@@JackRascal yeh it's generally a nice pub but back in the late 80s early 90s the potters green lads and bell green would sometimes go in and get abit rowdy although it was never really a rough pub at all just the odd incidents like any pub I suppose.

Geoff was the real deal, not a bully, just normal bloke who didnt put up with idiots.
Sounds like a typical squaddie. Unassuming.
Yeah, read his book and have some of his DVD's on fighting. Sensible advice, not bullshit that doesn't work in the real world
Because the real deals never bully they're normally quality operators.

As someone who has had more fights over the last 40 years than i can remember,
it was nice to hear someone speak words about how he felt pre fight, they all rang
so true!!i always go out with the mindset that you can be attacked any moment for
no reason, always expect the unexpected and you'll always be mentally/phsically ready when
it does, it doesn't mean you'll always win,but atleast you'll be ready when it comes, best advice
i was given by one of the toughest men i ever knew, the fight is the last thing you wanna
do,but at the same time, never make it look like you don't wanna fight, let them know you're happy to fight, almost
all bullies don't really wanna fight with someone who they can't scare, someone they can't mentally defeat, the
fight wll often end before it's even begun, once they see your happy to fight, their fight usually all dies down to "you're not worth
doing time for" etc etc,it's so easy for a any weapon,wether it's a knife,gun,fist or feet,to end you,no matter
how tough you are,,the fights were i've really come unstuck, were the ones i pursued when
i should've let them go,it did'n't happen often before i seen the pattern,i soon wised up!

Bravo👏
Thankyou mate

What a great story, well told. I wet my pants just listening to it. Were the names changed to protect the innocent? I don't know a pub in Coventry called The Lion?
The red lion on Walsgrave
@@bigprob8744 I hope it's changed since, I nearly took my mum in there for a meal the other week.
@@JackRascal yeh it's generally a nice pub but back in the late 80s early 90s the potters green lads and bell green would sometimes go in and get abit rowdy although it was never really a rough pub at all just the odd incidents like any pub I suppose.
I thought Kevin Houston was the big name round there.
Just mentioned the Houston brothers.
Kevin Houston would scare anybody with his stare.
Kev’s mentioned in Geoffs book a few times . Geoff calls him “the hardest right hand puncher on Gods earth” , that’s some accolade coming from Geoff ! @@terrystephens8603
