The Comic is nothing like the TV show! The Comic was made by someone who really hated superheroes. Also, the Comic the entire group is taking Compound V from the get-go. And every Supe they went after ended up dead in a very graphic way, and it's not just Butcher that was killing supes. In the end Black Noir tried to kill Homelander after Homelander killed the US President in the Whitehouse. Ya find out that Blsck Noir is a clone of Homelander and was just as or more powerful than Homelander! After Butcher sticks a crowbar through homelanders head after Black Noir tool part of his head off. Butcher also wants to send out a signal that effects Supes and wants use it to kill ALL of them! He fights Huey, who has become a supe, and he tells Huey you're going to have to kill me because if you don't, I'm going to kill EVERY Supe on the planet! Although by this point, Frenchie, MM & the girl are already dead!

I completely disagree with the idea that Homelander feels any semblance of empathy towards humans. I do agree that he is coming to grips with his own mortality but that doesn’t mean he feels any remorse for all the lives he’s taken. When Ryan accidentally killed his trainer and was emotionally destroyed by what he did, Homelander didn’t even think for a second that the trainer’s death was what Ryan was sad about until he literally tells him. Homelander does not need or deserve any kind of redemption arc and if the show goes that route it would be incredibly out of character.
That's fair. Not every villain, no matter how charismatic or fun they are, requires a redemption arc. Part of me wants it specifically for Ryan's sake. But I doubt they'll go that route but then again you never know
@jameslough6329 No. It's just the writers are inconsistent and incompetent amongst each other. Homelander is not a complicated character at all: He was neglected and abused as a child, and all he wants is love and acceptance. If he can't get that, he lashes out, but since he was never raised in a loving environment or had anything close to a friend or family his entire life (he only two coming close to it are Stillwell being his surrogate mom and the first Black Noir being his surrogate best friend,) he doesn't know how to behave in the proper way to be loved or accepted and has no moral compass. Homelander could be fixed with a proper therapist and a genuine friend, but then he wouldn't be a good villain. Because he's not completely evil, that is what makes him a good villain, though.

One thing that really put me off was the Senator Newmans's daughter going from regular child to remorseless killer from having V in her system for a matter of days. Stormfront had slower aging, or maybe even eternal life, after all she got married in the 1940s. Knowing that she was superior to him in this aspect is probably not sitting well with Homelander's damaged psyche.
MM getting mad at butcher gets me mad, when the priority should be Homelander, he was obsessed with Soldier Boy. Soldier Boy had a weakness, he could be taken down any time, Homelander has none. The deaths on this season is on them.

I get the impression from her apartment and the types of media she references she’s more of a history nerd. I think she could pick up engineering really quick but her whole thing is a lack of motivation. She’s definitely the most interesting character this season, she’s absolutely playing homelander.
@Alteori he knows about the pavement splattering of the soup that disabled him. I don't think. He's come clean to his brother about all the truly evil acts he's committed. I think that's the brother's problem with him. He knows how much he's holding back. He knows he's not being honest about who he is and his actions. You couldn't trust anyone like that around kids. A train has always been about himself, and now he's starting to think about the ripple effects his actions have caused. I don't feel bad for him. As a combat veteran, that hasn't always made the right decision myself. We find who we truly are in our darkest moments. He laughed as he turned people to mist. Everything was okay as long as he was on top. He was willing to do whatever and sell out whoever. Even his own family. All to maintain this illusion of power and fame.

It's more the Blue Hawk murder. Nathan said he doesn't want a murderer in the same house as his kids. If A-Train survives the season (the final episode is titled "Assassination Run" so idk about that) I can't see his redemption arc putting him back in his family's good graces, *but* I can see him ending up as a permanent ally to The Boys. He's *growing* a conscience, a moral backbone. Sometimes it takes time, especially for someone who has lived such a privileged life.

It's the atmosphere of tension and sense of danger that feels absent with backstories (compared to S3) that aren't that compelling or of interest. S4 should have felt like the Finale season at the time s3 was out. I personally feel the big scary moment of Homelander loosing his shit is starting to loose momentum because now we're at the point where he's having issues with his son and public image again. Like we dealt with this in S2.

Which is why they probably made Frenchie gay and that bs drama. Kimiko now getting her backstory shown Sage and firecracker are just adding antagonists we didn't need, though I like sage.
Kind of feels like it through. Without the brutal charm that was Stormfront and Soldier Boy Season 4 is almost being meh but we are only on to 2 to 3 episodes so I'm hoping rest will be better.

I'm a beta reader and a weird phenomenon I've noticed is that characters first go through their arc before the plot gets introduced. Character development ≠ character arc, I'm aware of that, but I'm still wondering if mainstream series' like The Boys and Invincible are kind of an inspiration in this regard for new writers

The messaging is just too much this season. Not sure if it’s because election year or Kripke and the writers have just full crazy in their politics, but it’s feeling like they focused on all of that but put their story on the back burner. Starting to wonder if despite the fact the later seasons certainly weren’t all good, if Supernatural stayed fairly decent because Kripke bailed on that show after season 5. But then again, that was early 2010s, still quite a different feeling Hollywood than that of today.

I really liked the "girls get it done" arc and twist at the end of that season when 3 girls got together and tried to kill that female Nazi and couldn't. And then a little boy ended up being able to do what 3 girls with super powers couldn't.
He is the second most cracked person in the series tbf, being the son of homelander, and storm front honestly felt more powerful than the three girls combined. Im sorry but i find Starlight's powers to be very lacklustre across the show, we almost never see great displays of her power or them working in advanced ways (apart from her recently practicing flying which i hope shows up more) and whenever they're in a crap situation i dont really see it as (Starlight's a supe, they're fine). She has a clear weakness and several disadvantages because of it (power availability and it literally has to be maxed out for her to reach a more powerful form in season 3, and even then she barely tickled soldier boy with it). Also Ryan didn't actually kill storm front, just severely maimed her and then she killed herself. So i dont really see it as a subversion idk, kind of an expectation
I think the social commentary is just too blatant, constant, and uncreative this season. It's no secret that the boys has always referenced real life from a progressive perspective which is completely ok, but the jokes and portrayals of the right wing were subtle and funny, and the more obvious ones were still very clever. This season just feels like an election year hit piece against politics the writers don't agree with.
Theres nothing subtle about the commentary in the boys, but it was easier to watch because they were shitting on all sides, but they were clearly just doing that to sell the show, they jumped the shark in season 2, when they unironically did the "girls get it done" scene after literally just referencing it as a bad hollywood political trope... just calling it out, doesnt mean its ok to just turn around and do it.

In the comic Vought is the villain, it existed before the superheroes and continued to exist after them, it didn't end up just adapting, the big corporations were the focus of criticism, people above Homelander, in the series Vought was the focus of criticizes, and it worked, they criticized alienation in general, like that pastor Ezequiel or forced representation, no side was spared, but the series abandoned this profound and timeless text to become a critique of Trump, I'm sure they considered putting Homelander to say "lets make America great again" or some shit like that

To be fair with newman's durability we saw starlight take a 50 cal to the chest and just get knocked back in season 1 and the gender bender in Gen V was able to take hits and hit hard in return so the supes having some level of enhanced durability and super strength is consistent

The aging plot is so dumb. It literally flies in the face of what has already been established about V. Soldier boy is Homelander's father and is functionally still in his prime. Stormfront was a young woman in the 1930s and was still basically a young woman up until she became a kebab. Why would Homelander, the most perfect of all of them, be aging at the rate of a normal human?

Hollywood needs to ease off the Ozempic its making them look weird. MM definitely lean, and shaving the beard doesn't help either since it shows off the aging neck. Starlight lost some weight and they seem to be doing a bit of contouring on her face which is weird, unless it looks worse without that makeup. I think the only procedure she had done was lip filler. I think the can was empty, at least it made a sound like it was. Def saw the gut rip in S3. You want a juicy Karl Urban, look him up in Xena Warrior Princess. My main issue with this season so far, and it was a bit present last season is how blatant the social commentary is, it isn't allegory, but so much is just straight up lifted from the alt-right, anti-vax, "cabal" etc stuff, it just feels low effort. I think those premises are stupid, but I also wish there was more subtlety. "All Democracy's Fail" is a line that doesn't make sense if you think about it.

Historically speaking Democracies turned into Dictatorships, Oligarchies, Dictatorships disguised as Communism, and whatever is happening in the rest of the democratic Countries. Democracies all over the World are essentially just Politicians who do and say anything to get votes, stepping over each other to hold their power or get more, instead of doing what a Democracy is actually supposed to do, which is to elect a leading party and a Leader, who then works towards the improvement of their People. The only real democratic thing going on is us electing our Leaders. And hell, even that doesn't work in the US because the electoral vote is a thing there. Other than that, Democracy looks like a pretty failed concept to me.

The first guy Kyle Rittenhouse shot threw a plastic bag at him while chasing him before being shot. It also relates to the scene where Butcher and Ryan talk about the guy Homelander killed, Ryan says that guy was a pedophile and Butcher says it isn't true. In the real case the first guy Rittenhouse shot had been convicted and jailed for years because he was a pedophile. Now if Homelander had pushed the guy, roughed him up dragging him off or something, sure, even if the guy died because he was fragile, I would be more on homelander's side, but a straight laser. I almost wished they showed what defense Homelander had, almost like a little peak into the court room. The way it was written it seemed "Innocent" i.e. all 12 people said he wasn't guilty (as a Mistrial would be if not all 12 could agree) so what exactly caused them to view lasering a dude as confidently not murder would be a pretty significant bit of context of how things are viewed. Or even if maybe all 12 were just that afraid of what Homelander would do if he was convicted. Like more than just Vaught are terrified of the guy but the world as a whole, i.e. anyone who isn't a simp for him as outright fearful.

Last season (I think) with the clear spoof on the Kylie Jenner Pepsi commercial was fun because it was quick and a bit of a subversive joke, but this season it seems like a core bit of the plot is laser focused on direct pulls from Alt-Right. Even from S1 the alignment of the material seemed to make fit the modern political camps but you can say one side is pro fascist without tying in every single part of it.

Ok here's the thing. Sage lives in a society that race, gender and class do directly affect the chances of something occurring statistically. Thats just a fact. If she were to ignore these intersections of identity and their factor on her plans and predictions, then she wouldn't be the smartest person on earth, would she? Just because you may believe it's "superficial" doesn't necessarily make it.

This. I'm all for a bit of character arc, but why does everyone has to develop their character all at the same time? Meanwhile some characters like Frenchie and MM act completely out of character this season.
The reason they had Sister Sage say Im a smart black woman and that would bother ur ego is because theyre trying to convince the audience that Homelander is racist..Which I never actually bought, but Ive seen alot of reactors say he is cause thats the direction the show is trying to push.
That's a very shallow way to look at it. If it was really "the agenda" she'd be a morally perfect good guy. But shes every bit as evil and fucked up as Homelander is, and she has the same superiority complex. The more likely case is that she's basing her assumption off of Homelander's affiliation with Stormfront. I think the actor who plays MM is taking Ozempic. He looks similar to other celebrities that have taken it. It creates sunken-in eyes, muscle loss, rapid weight loss, more prominent cheeks from sunken face due to weight loss.

There’s a lot of really weird plot threads going on at the moment MM isn’t acting like himself at all, I don’t get why he’s suddenly throwing Butcher out of the seven, especially now he’s dying. The idea that his ex wife thought that Todd was a ‘good father’ is insane given that she knows he was taking her to homelander rallies and cheered homelander murdering someone Starlight feels even more useless than normal now, her purpose seems to be to fly into scenes, look horrified and then leave. (Also the actress just looks ill) Firecracker just feels like a re-hash of stormfront in a lot of ways, causing similar things, has similar supporters and fans etc. And just what the hell have they done to Frenchie, the relationship with kimiko that’s been building the whole show has been thrown out the window in favour of a random character that’s appeared from nowhere and is now his love interest. And then the whole ‘he killed that guys family’ thing just seems very soap opera ish.
Firecracker just comes across as lackluster and cartoonishly evil compared to the calculating and compelling Stormfront. As for Frenchie... Yeah, they massacred my boy.

The episodes feel so…flat, a lot of the characters are not behaving like the characters, I think the show runner was to fixated on making some sort of political statement and maybe it ran off the actual talented writers, either way it’s killing the show

The Butcher caharacter does not work anymore because of Ryan. His character is completely focussed on Ryan rather than his revenge from HL unlime the comics and s1&2 where Ryan does not exist. @alteori Without the tension of Butcher vs Homelander the show is faltering. There is no life or death tension anymore - no danger, no life and death situations. The first few seasons, you never knew who was going to die horribly - everybody's head was on the chopping block. Nobody feels or looks dangerous. And none of the individual stories are very compelling for me anymore. Firecracker is annoying and the "tension" with Starlight seems too forced. Sage is a very good character so far and the dynamic with Hughie and his former boss is good so far. EDIT : Jeffery Dean Morgan is being wasted and Noir talks too much. AND Edgar is gone. wtf?!

Frenchy being bi it's not the problem, the love interest is, because I don't feel he is relevant at all, like if you want him to be with a dude, then give him a more relevant role, as a new member of The Boys, hell, even a new supe would be useful because they need a hand! But just a love interest? And Frenchie killed his family? So? He killed a bunch of people! You can easily swap this dude by a grandma or a kid who is orphan and Frenchie would still feeling the same guilt, that's why this dude is irrelevant, I thought I wouldn't see an useless love interest being in the background anymore but nope, here we are again after so long, I guess he will be end up kidnapped or killed.
I mean almost everyone on the internet is saying this season is where the show fell off. But, as of writing this comment, only 4 of the 8 episodes came out so we still don't know what the show has to offer in the end of this one. It's kinda like declaring a book poorly written after reading only half of its chapters. You miss the unfolding twists, character arcs, and resolutions that complete the story.
Yeah I think with episode 4 we have all the setup we need. Now comes time to actually start paying stuff off and doing the plot twist, rug pulls and the occasional subversion of expectations …which the boys is fairly known for doing in its finales I mean almost all finales of each section have had some sort of subversion if you watch them
Ok. So what book did you read where you hate the characters (hate as in don't care abut them) then suddenly they get good in the 2nd half? Sorry. That's not how it works out. Take Neegan in Walking Dead. You hate the guy but you love the character. Then he foes on his arc. And ITS REALLY GOOD.
The inconsistency in the lore is so strange. So, Soldier Boy and Stormfront age super slowly or not at all, and they’re both super powerful, but the rest of them age normally and are weaker. Maybe, the explanation is that the formula or amount of Compound V was different back then compared to the modern day.
MM not being as physically intimidating was the point I think. It’s kind of symbolic of him being weak in the role of a leader whereas he’s ultra intimidating as the muscle with a heart of gold. This season needs better direction though there’s not really a plot right things are just happening. The constant meeting of the Boys and the Seven REALLY lowers the stakes and ruins the anxiety of the earlier seasons. Add in Butcher and MM killing a supe without the Temp V again lowering the stakes by making the supes way less powerful than they were before.
Honestly the entire "humans are toys" spiel from Homelander is just a cope coming from a guy who was hurt real bad by those "toys." Hot take, but in my view the regular humans who took it upon themselves to play God and create an entire degenerate culture around Supes are the real villains of this story. The Boys and the Supes are just two groups of victims fighting each other that have gone so deep into the rabbit hole that they cannot come out of it. Meanwhile you have the people behind the Supe-Industrial Complex sitting in the shadows rubbing their hands at the thought of the next product they can promote after the demise of another.
You seem to keep bringing attention to Starlight’s appearance throughout this video. The first time I was like “yeah, ok, it’s understandable, she does look quite different.” But you continued to do it over & over again. Are you insecure in your appearance and are trying to deflect or something by bringing her down? The fixation throughout the video was SO odd.
I think one aspect is that Soldier Boy was such a good villain last season, that it feels like Sage and Firecracker are just not up to his level. Although, I do hope they give firecracker her moment to either get some sort of revenge on either Starlight or Sage.
I love Season 4 so Far and I believe the Theme of this Season is Legacy, the Concequeces of our Past Actions, and the Struggles with Mortality, perhaps there’s a Few Things Missing and Other Things that Change, but we will never know unless we see it Completely.

People laughing at the Deep and A-Train scene is just weird to me, people are literally laughing at what was about to be a rape scene. A lot of people will want to argue that Deep raped Starlight and while that's true we don't rape rapists that's just called revenge it isn't justice and A-Train also afaik never raped anyone he's innocent of that. If the scene was of two women or a man and a woman people wouldn't find it funny and it'd become massive online outrage, but when it's two men rape is funny?
I stopped watching the Boys because the first season was fire, the second season was okay but it wasn't as intense and captivating, and the third season was so boring that my best friend and I just couldn't pay attention to it without a headache. The Boys had been the show that, during season 1, we were like, "This is the show we HAVE to watch together!" And then season 3 was so lackluster that we were like, "We need to find a new show."
They changed producers after season 1 and gave Eric Kripke full creative control, allowing him to run wild with the wokeness. That's why seasons 1 and 2 are like day and night.

Yeah Sista Sage's actress is a great connection to the "original" The Boys - the Playstation show "Powers". If you can find it. you ,might like it. She was a human cop that worked for the "superhero crimes division".
@@AlteoriPlaystation had a stint where they where trying to make original shows like Netflix was doing but none of their shows took off ironically, so they scraped the whole division. Its why projects like the Uncharted movie and The last of us tv show took so long to come out. Sony lost faith in original projects and went to 3rd parties who knew what they where doing.
This story just keeps going around in circles. There is no reason why Homelander or the lady that can pop heads can’t just kill the boys and get it over with. What is the conflict? What do the boys/starlight even want anymore? What is the goal? It seems like there is only conflict because the plot says there is conflict. And I’m really annoyed with all the inconsistencies. I don’t understand how powerful or strong supes are. Some have superhuman strength and are bullet proof but others are just regular humans with powers that can be killed with a gun. Also the invincible & bullet proof supes become less powerful when the plot needs it. Also why are they STILL wondering how to kill Homelander??? We literally saw Queen Meave nearly kill him by herself last season, so that kind takes away from Homelander’s invincible persona. This show really lost it after season 1.
They need to add more deaths so it can feel more realistic like in season 1 where you used to feel fear for the characters when they cross paths with supes. Now it's just goofy.
I must be the only one who dislikes any sideplot involving Frenchy, Kimiko and Hughie. It bores me to no end. The stuff with Homelander and Butcher is what keeps me watching, everything else is meh. Like the smartest person in the world is of course a woman and black... like, wow, didn't see that coming when every show pushes that. In Star Wars, you have black lesbians making kids with other women, none of this is a surprise. What is a surprise is that they act like Sage is so smart, and yet she isn't. A truly smart character would tell Homelander exactly what he needs to hear so he would act in the way you want, there'd be no moment where he sabotages your plans. But it takes someone smart to write someone smart, which the showrunners clearly aren't. They also try _really_ hard to make us (the viewer) hate Homelander, cause they really hate that we are invested in him, that is why he acts comically evil at times (like with that friend of Starlight he lasers IN A SECOND after her confession).
The Deep always felt like a kindred spirit to me, I really hope he and his octopus girlfriend get some sort of happy ending by the end of the series, I’d be really upset if one or both of them where to die.
The Comic is nothing like the TV show! The Comic was made by someone who really hated superheroes. Also, the Comic the entire group is taking Compound V from the get-go. And every Supe they went after ended up dead in a very graphic way, and it's not just Butcher that was killing supes. In the end Black Noir tried to kill Homelander after Homelander killed the US President in the Whitehouse. Ya find out that Blsck Noir is a clone of Homelander and was just as or more powerful than Homelander! After Butcher sticks a crowbar through homelanders head after Black Noir tool part of his head off. Butcher also wants to send out a signal that effects Supes and wants use it to kill ALL of them! He fights Huey, who has become a supe, and he tells Huey you're going to have to kill me because if you don't, I'm going to kill EVERY Supe on the planet! Although by this point, Frenchie, MM & the girl are already dead!

I completely disagree with the idea that Homelander feels any semblance of empathy towards humans. I do agree that he is coming to grips with his own mortality but that doesn’t mean he feels any remorse for all the lives he’s taken.
When Ryan accidentally killed his trainer and was emotionally destroyed by what he did, Homelander didn’t even think for a second that the trainer’s death was what Ryan was sad about until he literally tells him.
Homelander does not need or deserve any kind of redemption arc and if the show goes that route it would be incredibly out of character.
That's fair. Not every villain, no matter how charismatic or fun they are, requires a redemption arc. Part of me wants it specifically for Ryan's sake. But I doubt they'll go that route but then again you never know

No. It's just the writers are inconsistent and incompetent amongst each other.
Homelander is not a complicated character at all: He was neglected and abused as a child, and all he wants is love and acceptance. If he can't get that, he lashes out, but since he was never raised in a loving environment or had anything close to a friend or family his entire life (he only two coming close to it are Stillwell being his surrogate mom and the first Black Noir being his surrogate best friend,) he doesn't know how to behave in the proper way to be loved or accepted and has no moral compass.
Homelander could be fixed with a proper therapist and a genuine friend, but then he wouldn't be a good villain. Because he's not completely evil, that is what makes him a good villain, though.

One thing that really put me off was the Senator Newmans's daughter going from regular child to remorseless killer from having V in her system for a matter of days.
Stormfront had slower aging, or maybe even eternal life, after all she got married in the 1940s. Knowing that she was superior to him in this aspect is probably not sitting well with Homelander's damaged psyche.
Soldier boy also has slowed aging.

He's come clean to his brother about all the truly evil acts he's committed. I think that's the brother's problem with him. He knows how much he's holding back. He knows he's not being honest about who he is and his actions. You couldn't trust anyone like that around kids. A train has always been about himself, and now he's starting to think about the ripple effects his actions have caused. I don't feel bad for him. As a combat veteran, that hasn't always made the right decision myself. We find who we truly are in our darkest moments. He laughed as he turned people to mist. Everything was okay as long as he was on top. He was willing to do whatever and sell out whoever. Even his own family. All to maintain this illusion of power and fame.

If A-Train survives the season (the final episode is titled "Assassination Run" so idk about that) I can't see his redemption arc putting him back in his family's good graces, *but* I can see him ending up as a permanent ally to The Boys. He's *growing* a conscience, a moral backbone. Sometimes it takes time, especially for someone who has lived such a privileged life.

It's the atmosphere of tension and sense of danger that feels absent with backstories (compared to S3) that aren't that compelling or of interest. S4 should have felt like the Finale season at the time s3 was out. I personally feel the big scary moment of Homelander loosing his shit is starting to loose momentum because now we're at the point where he's having issues with his son and public image again. Like we dealt with this in S2.
Narratively what wouldd make homelander go crazy just think about it… his son leaving him… which also narratively makes sense for butcher

Character development ≠ character arc, I'm aware of that, but I'm still wondering if mainstream series' like The Boys and Invincible are kind of an inspiration in this regard for new writers

The messaging is just too much this season. Not sure if it’s because election year or Kripke and the writers have just full crazy in their politics, but it’s feeling like they focused on all of that but put their story on the back burner. Starting to wonder if despite the fact the later seasons certainly weren’t all good, if Supernatural stayed fairly decent because Kripke bailed on that show after season 5. But then again, that was early 2010s, still quite a different feeling Hollywood than that of today.

He is the second most cracked person in the series tbf, being the son of homelander, and storm front honestly felt more powerful than the three girls combined. Im sorry but i find Starlight's powers to be very lacklustre across the show, we almost never see great displays of her power or them working in advanced ways (apart from her recently practicing flying which i hope shows up more) and whenever they're in a crap situation i dont really see it as (Starlight's a supe, they're fine). She has a clear weakness and several disadvantages because of it (power availability and it literally has to be maxed out for her to reach a more powerful form in season 3, and even then she barely tickled soldier boy with it).
Also Ryan didn't actually kill storm front, just severely maimed her and then she killed herself. So i dont really see it as a subversion idk, kind of an expectation

I think the social commentary is just too blatant, constant, and uncreative this season. It's no secret that the boys has always referenced real life from a progressive perspective which is completely ok, but the jokes and portrayals of the right wing were subtle and funny, and the more obvious ones were still very clever. This season just feels like an election year hit piece against politics the writers don't agree with.
Real life and progressive perspective are mutually exclusive.
Theres nothing subtle about the commentary in the boys, but it was easier to watch because they were shitting on all sides, but they were clearly just doing that to sell the show, they jumped the shark in season 2, when they unironically did the "girls get it done" scene after literally just referencing it as a bad hollywood political trope... just calling it out, doesnt mean its ok to just turn around and do it.

My main issue with this season so far, and it was a bit present last season is how blatant the social commentary is, it isn't allegory, but so much is just straight up lifted from the alt-right, anti-vax, "cabal" etc stuff, it just feels low effort. Democracies all over the World are essentially just Politicians who do and say anything to get votes, stepping over each other to hold their power or get more, instead of doing what a Democracy is actually supposed to do, which is to elect a leading party and a Leader, who then works towards the improvement of their People.
The only real democratic thing going on is us electing our Leaders. And hell, even that doesn't work in the US because the electoral vote is a thing there. Other than that, Democracy looks like a pretty failed concept to me.
@@Alteori Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if them calling it a plastic bottle was on purpose and meant to reference Kyle Rittenhouse. The first guy Kyle Rittenhouse shot threw a plastic bag at him while chasing him before being shot. It also relates to the scene where Butcher and Ryan talk about the guy Homelander killed, Ryan says that guy was a pedophile and Butcher says it isn't true. In the real case the first guy Rittenhouse shot had been convicted and jailed for years because he was a pedophile. It wouldn't surprise me given the obvious political leanings of the writers, but somewhat defending the legit pedo is a strange stance to take.

Now if Homelander had pushed the guy, roughed him up dragging him off or something, sure, even if the guy died because he was fragile, I would be more on homelander's side, but a straight laser.
I almost wished they showed what defense Homelander had, almost like a little peak into the court room. The way it was written it seemed "Innocent" i.e. all 12 people said he wasn't guilty (as a Mistrial would be if not all 12 could agree) so what exactly caused them to view lasering a dude as confidently not murder would be a pretty significant bit of context of how things are viewed. Or even if maybe all 12 were just that afraid of what Homelander would do if he was convicted. Like more than just Vaught are terrified of the guy but the world as a whole, i.e. anyone who isn't a simp for him as outright fearful.
@@sharktipskandelopian6395 Good point, I didn't even think of that, since it was a plastic bag. I could go either way, forgot, or deliberate, they're certainly more overt in their real world tie ins. Last season (I think) with the clear spoof on the Kylie Jenner Pepsi commercial was fun because it was quick and a bit of a subversive joke, but this season it seems like a core bit of the plot is laser focused on direct pulls from Alt-Right.
Even from S1 the alignment of the material seemed to make fit the modern political camps but you can say one side is pro fascist without tying in every single part of it.

It's just weird, maybe it's just that Season 3 ramped things up so much and now it just feels like we're just doing the same thing all over again....they need to ramp things up more quickly.
Ok here's the thing. Sage lives in a society that race, gender and class do directly affect the chances of something occurring statistically. Thats just a fact. If she were to ignore these intersections of identity and their factor on her plans and predictions, then she wouldn't be the smartest person on earth, would she? Just because you may believe it's "superficial" doesn't necessarily make it.

This. I'm all for a bit of character arc, but why does everyone has to develop their character all at the same time? Meanwhile some characters like Frenchie and MM act completely out of character this season.

That's a very shallow way to look at it. If it was really "the agenda" she'd be a morally perfect good guy. But shes every bit as evil and fucked up as Homelander is, and she has the same superiority complex.
The more likely case is that she's basing her assumption off of Homelander's affiliation with Stormfront. Being super intelligent doesn't mean you're always right; and just because something males sense doesn't mean it's true. So her assuming Homelander is racist doesn't require a meta explanation

There’s a lot of really weird plot threads going on at the moment
MM isn’t acting like himself at all, I don’t get why he’s suddenly throwing Butcher out of the seven, especially now he’s dying. The idea that his ex wife thought that Todd was a ‘good father’ is insane given that she knows he was taking her to homelander rallies and cheered homelander murdering someone
Starlight feels even more useless than normal now, her purpose seems to be to fly into scenes, look horrified and then leave. (Also the actress just looks ill)
Firecracker just feels like a re-hash of stormfront in a lot of ways, causing similar things, has similar supporters and fans etc.
And just what the hell have they done to Frenchie, the relationship with kimiko that’s been building the whole show has been thrown out the window in favour of a random character that’s appeared from nowhere and is now his love interest. And then the whole ‘he killed that guys family’ thing just seems very soap opera ish.
And Firecracker is written very stupid compared to Stormfront. And it's a shame.

@alteori Without the tension of Butcher vs Homelander the show is faltering. There is no life or death tension anymore - no danger, no life and death situations.
The first few seasons, you never knew who was going to die horribly - everybody's head was on the chopping block. Nobody feels or looks dangerous.
And none of the individual stories are very compelling for me anymore.
Firecracker is annoying and the "tension" with Starlight seems too forced.
Sage is a very good character so far and the dynamic with Hughie and his former boss is good so far.

Frenchy being bi it's not the problem, the love interest is, because I don't feel he is relevant at all, like if you want him to be with a dude, then give him a more relevant role, as a new member of The Boys, hell, even a new supe would be useful because they need a hand! But just a love interest? And Frenchie killed his family? So? He killed a bunch of people! You can easily swap this dude by a grandma or a kid who is orphan and Frenchie would still feeling the same guilt, that's why this dude is irrelevant, I thought I wouldn't see an useless love interest being in the background anymore but nope, here we are again after so long, I guess he will be end up kidnapped or killed.
I mean almost everyone on the internet is saying this season is where the show fell off. But, as of writing this comment, only 4 of the 8 episodes came out so we still don't know what the show has to offer in the end of this one. It's kinda like declaring a book poorly written after reading only half of its chapters. You miss the unfolding twists, character arcs, and resolutions that complete the story.
Yeah I think with episode 4 we have all the setup we need. Now comes time to actually start paying stuff off and doing the plot twist, rug pulls and the occasional subversion of expectations …which the boys is fairly known for doing in its finales

The inconsistency in the lore is so strange. So, Soldier Boy and Stormfront age super slowly or not at all, and they’re both super powerful, but the rest of them age normally and are weaker. Maybe, the explanation is that the formula or amount of Compound V was different back then compared to the modern day.

MM not being as physically intimidating was the point I think. It’s kind of symbolic of him being weak in the role of a leader whereas he’s ultra intimidating as the muscle with a heart of gold. This season needs better direction though there’s not really a plot right things are just happening. The constant meeting of the Boys and the Seven REALLY lowers the stakes and ruins the anxiety of the earlier seasons. Add in Butcher and MM killing a supe without the Temp V again lowering the stakes by making the supes way less powerful than they were before.
Honestly the entire "humans are toys" spiel from Homelander is just a cope coming from a guy who was hurt real bad by those "toys." Hot take, but in my view the regular humans who took it upon themselves to play God and create an entire degenerate culture around Supes are the real villains of this story. The Boys and the Supes are just two groups of victims fighting each other that have gone so deep into the rabbit hole that they cannot come out of it. Meanwhile you have the people behind the Supe-Industrial Complex sitting in the shadows rubbing their hands at the thought of the next product they can promote after the demise of another.

I think one aspect is that Soldier Boy was such a good villain last season, that it feels like Sage and Firecracker are just not up to his level. Although, I do hope they give firecracker her moment to either get some sort of revenge on either Starlight or Sage.

I love Season 4 so Far and I believe the Theme of this Season is Legacy, the Concequeces of our Past Actions, and the Struggles with Mortality, perhaps there’s a Few Things Missing and Other Things that Change, but we will never know unless we see it Completely.

People laughing at the Deep and A-Train scene is just weird to me, people are literally laughing at what was about to be a rape scene.
A lot of people will want to argue that Deep raped Starlight and while that's true we don't rape rapists that's just called revenge it isn't justice and A-Train also afaik never raped anyone he's innocent of that.
If the scene was of two women or a man and a woman people wouldn't find it funny and it'd become massive online outrage, but when it's two men rape is funny?
I stopped watching the Boys because the first season was fire, the second season was okay but it wasn't as intense and captivating, and the third season was so boring that my best friend and I just couldn't pay attention to it without a headache. The Boys had been the show that, during season 1, we were like, "This is the show we HAVE to watch together!" And then season 3 was so lackluster that we were like, "We need to find a new show."

They changed producers after season 1 and gave Eric Kripke full creative control, allowing him to run wild with the wokeness. That's why seasons 1 and 2 are like day and night.

The Boys team lack goal. Starlight face. Huey is still a pxssy. Politician lady is now invincible 🙄. The constant digs at conservatives and Christian. And what happens to the danger of the sups.
Yeah Sista Sage's actress is a great connection to the "original" The Boys - the Playstation show "Powers". If you can find it. you ,might like it. She was a human cop that worked for the "superhero crimes division".

Its why projects like the Uncharted movie and The last of us tv show took so long to come out. Sony lost faith in original projects and went to 3rd parties who knew what they where doing.

This story just keeps going around in circles. There is no reason why Homelander or the lady that can pop heads can’t just kill the boys and get it over with. What is the conflict? What do the boys/starlight even want anymore? What is the goal? It seems like there is only conflict because the plot says there is conflict. And I’m really annoyed with all the inconsistencies. I don’t understand how powerful or strong supes are. Some have superhuman strength and are bullet proof but others are just regular humans with powers that can be killed with a gun. Also the invincible & bullet proof supes become less powerful when the plot needs it. Also why are they STILL wondering how to kill Homelander??? We literally saw Queen Meave nearly kill him by herself last season, so that kind takes away from Homelander’s invincible persona. This show really lost it after season 1.
They need to add more deaths so it can feel more realistic like in season 1 where you used to feel fear for the characters when they cross paths with supes. Now it's just goofy.
I must be the only one who dislikes any sideplot involving Frenchy, Kimiko and Hughie. It bores me to no end. The stuff with Homelander and Butcher is what keeps me watching, everything else is meh. Like the smartest person in the world is of course a woman and black... like, wow, didn't see that coming when every show pushes that. In Star Wars, you have black lesbians making kids with other women, none of this is a surprise. What is a surprise is that they act like Sage is so smart, and yet she isn't. A truly smart character would tell Homelander exactly what he needs to hear so he would act in the way you want, there'd be no moment where he sabotages your plans. But it takes someone smart to write someone smart, which the showrunners clearly aren't. They also try _really_ hard to make us (the viewer) hate Homelander, cause they really hate that we are invested in him, that is why he acts comically evil at times (like with that friend of Starlight he lasers IN A SECOND after her confession).
You need to rewatch the season 3 finally they did show Homelander pulling out Black Noirs guts.
