    i love how Kripke and the writing team absolutely hates Trump but as soon as Trump gets shot in the ear they immediately backtrack and put a disclaimer/change the finale episode title. You’re gonna make fun of MAGA and compare Trump to Homelander (a murdering rapist) but take it back once something bad happens to him irl, like pick a side maybe? Homelander including groomers in his propaganda can be combined with Firecracker's propaganda. She falsely accused Starlighters of pedophilia, so Homelander's message can result in people reporting Starlighters. Also, it's not like Homelander is wrong about literally everything. Sage, someone who stands up to him and tells her opinions. Later on, he ends up siding with Firecracker who's a super ass kisser and then fires Sage?

    • @MarvinPowell1
      @MarvinPowell1 Місяць тому +30

      @keithnayo4582
      To be fair, that's not bad writing; that's Homelander being consistently unable to mature and move past his issues. He did trust Sage, but it's not her opinions he disliked, it was her lack of loyalty. You can be loyal to someone while being honest, and Firecracker was honest to Homelander, even if she's also too obedient. He doesn't even like Firecracker, but he respects her loyalty because he's never had a friend or loved one in his life before. So basically, Homelander is using Sage and Firecracker as surrogate mommies (to the point of Firecracker literally breast feeding him) but he now sees Sage as a bad mom who can't "love her child."
      The rest of the season has legitimate issues, though. The Frenchie storyline destroyed three seasons of character buildup with Frenchie and Kimiko and they won't be able to repair that damage in the last two episodes of the season. No one cared about Hughie's dad, either. A-Train has been one of the biggest assholes in the show, but gets a redemption arc, while straight white male Deep gets a full heel turn because "can't have a good straight white guy on the show." Butcher has become neutered, MM has become a super-cuck weak little coward, and Annie is the least liked character on the show, even more than Ashley.
      Kimiko and Ambrosia the Octopus are the only two likable characters on the show. Firecracker is sympathetic, but not genuinely liked. And Sage is such wasted potential and her being "the smartest person in the world" just amounts to her gaslighting and manipulating people in very obvious ways. They really nuked this series this year, even after season three's "toxic masculinity" BS with Soldier Boy.

    So there’s actually a valid reason as to why Ambrosius suffocated to death so fast despite having been out of the water before. Octopi are able to function on land by sucking in water through their skin/gills to breathe in oxygen and then filtering out water to keep the oxygen they absorbed. Now when an octopus absorbs oxygen in their bodies, they can live on land for up to 30 minutes. But when they didn’t absorb much oxygen, they cannot survive out of water for long, with some only surviving for a few minutes without oxygen.
    We had several hints throughout previous episodes where Ambrosius asked the Deep to put her in the bigger tank or asked him to change the water tank because it was getting dirty (which also means less oxygen was left in the tank). And for those who owned fish before, we often had to change the water in their tanks to both clean it and put in new water for the fish so they won’t suffocate to death.
    Also, we don’t know how long Ambrosius was on the bed with The Deep (though it’s implied they are sharing a post-coital moment), so it’s possible she had been out after absorbing plenty of oxygen. So when the Deep suddenly busted her tank, in an already dirty tank likely low on oxygen, Ambrosius didn’t have enough time to breathe in what’s left of the oxygen in the tank. So she suffocated when the remaining oxygen fell out with the water and shattered glass.
    I admit, the show was still inaccurate with how fast she suffocated when she should’ve lasted at least a few more minutes. But the show wasn’t that far off as you all think.

      Groomers means gay people to those who want it to mean that (who already hate gay people) and means actual groomers to those innocent enough to believe the propaganda is honest. So it hits well with everyone expect a few propel who spect dishonesty (who already don’t like the right). It’s literally a time tested political trick. Racists and Nazis used it, but so did good people (sometimes lying is good)
      But Homelander doesn’t think anything about groomers. Why would you think he wrote the puppet show? He cares about power and glory, and until this episode he had Sage and Vought using every social control trick in the box to build his power. It’s literally normal rhetoric and political skills. Plenty of examples in history and current times.
      The Nazis didn’t want to kill innocent people if you believe their words and speeches, they just wanted to kill traitors, criminals, abusers, thiefs. But we today understand those were dog whistles. They know who would be blamed as criminals and monsters, so they could comfortably use neutral “everyone agrees with this” language and still hate their secret point across.
      When people complain about groomers they don’t go after actual groomers or help the police get better at doing their job, they go after gay parents with children or books discussing gayness. When they consoling about welfare thief’s they don’t go after fraudsters, they go after people who literally need welfare and make laws to reduce welfare.
      Some people are just too innocent at social cues and don’t have the manners to understand this way of speaking tough. Do they not have gossipy friends or family members who fight with each other underhandedly? No hidden insults, no snide comments? How do you grow up to be an adult and not been affected by indirect communication?

      Jesse Pinkman in Breaking Bad was supposed to be killed off early in Season 2, but his character ended up unexpectedly being likeable, with a great performance from an actor who humanized him and made him relatable. So the character organically developed instead of the writers insisting he was a dumb, disposable side character.
      With the Deep however, even though the actor is doing such a good job that he makes this flawed character sympathetic, the show keeps INSISTING that we percieve him as a bad character. He's supposed to be unforgivable, but that's not what the audience FEELS a lot of the times, which is why people are reacting this way.
      Just look at Dany in the last episode of Game of Thrones. The audience knew that it was inorganic and out of character for her to behave that way, but the writers had their plans.

That is, animals still remain simple animals with simple instincts and desires, locked in their own body, which, like a meat puppet, is controlled by the subconscious desires of the Deep, caused by his complexes and fears.
    From this position, all dialogues with the octopus are a dialogue between the Deep and himself and are in no way tied to the state of the octopus itself.

Same with stuff like Gate, the Golden Girls, or Mr Rogers, or all those “special” episodes from all our childhood TV shows. You can’t really rely on subtlety if you really want to be understood by most listeners, leave that for films and writing were people can go back and think slowly of the many possible meanings.
      At least they picked a criticising power message and stuck to it, because hoping for everyone to get what you mean goes against the whole idea of subtlety and in this environment they were gonna end up with a loud minority of viewers coming away with a love for powerful violent dictators and a hope that their country well be led like this.

Issue is that this show is not that, it’s literally a story of bad powerful people and the underdogs. And the underdogs are pretty grey and shady btw. Starlight, Kimiko, and Frenchie are pretty dragged down by their pasts and I think Butcher will even turn evil. Even A-train and Ashley are having their reddening arc, and tons of previously evil characters have been killed trying to be good so far. Not to mention whatever ever is going on with Newman (even HOMELANDER is having his complexities explored in the show, get your head out of the “they are making homelander cartoonishly evil” and enjoy a cartoony show with lots of moral grayness)

    One of the things in our modern society that amazes me is how obsessed people are about praising unhealthy (obesity) , dangerous (permanent body altering "upgrades/downgrades"), and almost religious belief in certain modern trends as though if they are natural cult members worshiping their deity.
    Excuse me, if I had kids today, I would care. And furthermore, anyone who would make fun of me for that, they would be at the top of my list to as suspects who would actually be a danger to my children.
    And for the hundreds time, why is it that childless leftist people are so concerned with how others raised theirs? If it was not concerning 10 years ago, now it is just creepy. And their "oh look how stupid you are for thinking we want to indoctrinate your kid does not make it less suspicion, it does more!"
    My sister took her beloved kids from public school long ago, when I wasn't even aware of these things that every left leaning moviemaker has a need to talk in every movie and show. Today, I'm just becoming to realize that very normal people worried about these dangerous trends and things that are a very real harm to their children 10-15 years ago.
    Today, I can only confirm, they were right all along.

      lol. It was absolutely was a concern 10 years ago. You must have missed all the parenting fads, cries of a coming wave of undiciplined under-beaten children, cocaine babies, and fears of children not being raised right. Dungeons and dragons, music, religion, politics, clothes, all these things were panics around children. Let’s not forget all the people who have always seen all gay people as child predators who need to spread and abuse children to survive as a species. Or the century old controversy around child labour and the role of children in society.
      You might choose to bury your head and dream of an innocent “everyone was good” past, but that blind trust and optimism means you’ll be the first person to deny when something bad happens in the future and to go “these people are respectable and of good chracter, they would never do such a thing. My child must be the one lying. My reputation!”

    • @yucol5661
      @yucol5661 Місяць тому +1

      Because they think some people are abusing their children maybe? You don’t have infinite rights over your children, we did not even do that during the Middle Ages. Why should we today just abandon children to their parents? What if they have a dangerous or violent parent? What if the parent belives in never drinking water or never feeding children enough? What if their religion says you can deny medical care? What if you want them to be pretty and do cosmetic surgery? What if you force them to do pageants or force them to marry or date who you want? I mean according to you it’s your child so you should know better right?
      Do you not care even a little bit how other people treat other people? Or do you believe more in not caring about society and letting parents do anything they want as long as it is accepted tradition and done in private?
      Maybe you just see trans, gay, vegan parents and automatically child abuse though. In that case your point makes complete sense. But just know other people don’t believe your premise that those things are abusive or that parents who claim they are concerned aren’t actually cruel and abusive behind closed doors.

    I'm a Christian with a fair tolerance for satire. I mean, I watch South Park ffs... The Boys this season was just outright offensive to people like me and you can feel the burning hatred the show writers have for conservative Christians straight through the characters and dialogue. The scene that lost me for good was when Firecracker thanked Christ for leading a child into her life and making her a pedo so she can have a redemption arc. That's not satirical or fun, more of just a hate-fueled mockery and dumbing down of my beliefs in an attempt to paint Christians as evil. (Invoking the name of my God to make a pedophile joke?! Comedy????) When you're watching a tv show and can almost feel the writer whispering through the show into your ear 'I f****ing hate you and your kind' well then it ceases to be entertainment for a lot of people and I won't support it any longer. Even just from a writing perspective, the opinions are so hamfisted that you might as well be looking at the scowling joyless man behind the curtain. We could all take a lesson from Mr. Rogers when it comes to entertainment: "It's not a joke unless everyone can laugh."

    • @yucol5661
      @yucol5661 Місяць тому

      Not everyone laughs at South Park. And people do use our God’s name for lots of violence and cruel ideas. You can’t really claim it as your own privilege to use the name. You can only believe and do good things yourself and can’t control what evil other people do with it.
      If you get offended every time someone uses it for evil then good luck watching politicians speak or watching those priest apology speeches after the abuse a child.
      The show runners don’t hate Christian’s, they hate people who dupe you all the time and do what fire Carter did to your face. But maybe you don’t get those videos sent to your church group chat like I do and you can just feel like their criticism came out of nowhere and was unwarranted and that those things don’t happen in real life. Shame on you for feeling offended because someone else shamed people doing evil things and you just felt like it must be aimed at YOU. That kind of reputation protecting mentality shields abusers and fuels division and tribalism.

    I haven't seen the show, but I've heard many opinions about it and one of my best friends has seen it with her boyfriend, who is a fan of the show. But when I heard about the showrunner's response to the backlash Hughie's rape scene had caused, where he simply downplayed Hughie's trauma saying "Well, THAT'S a dark way to put it! We find it hilarious!", and told my friend, she was very disappointed to hear that response from him, being a survivor and long-time fan of the show herself. And as a writer who is trying my damnedest to portray this one rape subplot in my own story, including showing the horrific consequences and gradual recovery during his journey (my protagonist is a male), I found Eric Kripke's comments just disgusting. Rape is one of the worst things you can do to another person, male or female, and society as a whole has made it difficult for men and boys to come forward because they don't get taken seriously. So to see potential representation for male rape survivors get glossed over and laughed at by the showrunner, while female rape survivors still get representation that's handled with care and taken seriously (let's not forget that Starlight was sexually-assaulted in Season 1, yet her trauma was treated with care, unlike Hughie's trauma), just sickens me. And it's not just Hughie, as there have been other male rapes in the show that I heard weren't taken seriously either.
    I thought we were on our way to getting past this? Why is sexual assault funny when it happens to guys? There is just no way he would have called it hilarious if it was another female character without some tremendous backlash...

    I honestly wished the director and writers when it came to this whole world would be more open-minds because I think that is an important thing that’s needed in order for this world to feel real like it did for me in the first season, they have to view things from all sides and perspectives. How do you make a world believable if many of the people in it don’t feel believable, and I know that the right have people like you’ve seen in the show but they present it like it’s almost all of them which I don’t believe at all. I would do my research why they believe in what they believe and humanize all sides and present that in the end there are good people and some bad people wherever side your on, either having good intentions or selfish ones, there are many types of people in real life and just like I was taught about celebrity culture, can also teach what both sides want and parodying them the same but understanding that they just want to do what they think is right. I think I just want the show runners to parody real life but having the parody containing truth to it in a world with superheroes with an open-mind
    I’m someone that LOVES superheroes so it was cool to see an idea of a possible reality if superheroes existed. That’s what made The Boys so great for me and enjoyable since it felt pretty real with how things happen which made the world feel like its own character in some way (since it’s an almost reflection to ours)
    The rest is just what I imagined sometime ago from inspiration of this show and what I would do if I could make a spin-off:
    I would love to make a show about a college student with a personality resembling Spider-Man having superpowers and genuinely a good person that wants to help people but he is in The Boys universe so he quickly realizes either by doing it himself or seeing another Sup hurt an innocent person on accident with powers and he trains himself so that no person gets hurt and that he can handle situations the best he can. He is going to make mistakes and it’s going to almost break him at times. It also makes the setting of this world great because we have seen how people can get killed with powers so it makes it terrifying when the protagonist needs to find a way to make sure no one gets hurt or killed by the villain. We also get how people would respond to him and how the media would possibly respond to him. Maybe Vought wants to hire him but he knows that he would be selling his soul for money and won’t be able to help as many people as he currently is doing. (I can imagine him being a wholesome guy helping old ladies cross the street when there is no crime happening). There is so many interesting scenarios that can happen with the people in it, the dangers, the fame, governments. All of it is there to show what could happen if there were superheroes in our world and the perspective of an actual hero who wants to bring hope and even when things feel dark and hopeless, he wants to be there to bring joy to people and to feel safe when he is there (the opposite to how the audience feels when Homelander is with normal people)

      The last thing you are talking about seems like it’s going to be A-train’s arch. A regular kid figuring out that being Spider-Man is dangerous and morally complex is just any other Spider-Man. But now with injuries, no new ideas (and even then, the comics did go into injuries and colateral damage). But A-train, who has already done so many bad things, slowly figuring out how to be a decent real hero is much more complex.
      Either way I think if the world felt real then all the wacky action supes stuff from this show would then feel very out of place. To do a good political comentarte that humanizes people of both sides you’d need to do a documentary or book. Their lives are just too disjointed, nonsensical, boring, and sad to make a good TV show. Nothing to make episodes from. You’ll never find stuff humanizing characters deeply unless you go for fancy deep movies that focus on one or a few characters. And those are all sad because life is sad. Not good action material. And it would inherently be propaganda cause you are discussing people’s politics and lives.
      That said those exist. Just look for interviews or even better talks to real fucking propel in your life! Ask them their opinions and stuff politely if you want to see where insane misinformed ideas come from. The sources is literally at your fingertips.

      I’ve seen webnovels with this same premise. But the end goes bad because imagining a world like what you described is very easy, we sorta live in it, but imaging a happy ending is hard cause we do not know how that would ever work. We don’t get evil industries dying out in one fast swoop in real life. The sorts of endings we get in real life don’t wrap up the narrative. The just set the stage for another story.
      Not very satisfying for a super hero story unless you want him to end up making some improvement to the system and the retire and pass the fight against Vought’s successor to someone else.

I'm sure it's probably them just using whatever tagline used a lot from the political opposition of the writers but it feels a lot worse in this season. It's not just that but that sticks out to me because it never really took any sides before but this kinda contradicts its own writing and purpose to me. And I know a lot of people will say that it's a satire of current events but by doing things this current every season, it contradicts things going on in it's own contained story and contradicts itself as a narrative. • @privernd
    @privernd 25 днів тому +2

    I can’t really get behind this argument that impressionable children watching The Boys are going to misunderstand the line in the propaganda song about grooming. It doesn’t matter if children are ignoring viewer guidelines watching the show. It's not the responsibility of TV writers to control that. A series made and intended for mature audiences shouldn’t have to cater to younger audiences. They shouldn’t have to be worrying about 'influencing' their audience when it was made for fully grown adults who are responsible enough to make their own informed decisions. No one should be getting their lessons on politics from The Boys, but that doesn’t mean the show is wrong to use its narrative to criticize or make fun of extremist talking points. If it’s not obvious to someone that the grooming line was directed at people who accuse left leaning activists of grooming with no basis, then they are not mature enough to watch this show.
    I also completely disagree that only the 'bad guys' appear concerned for children when a major character arc for Kimiko this season was about facing her past and wanting to stop the terrorist group that abducts and hurts children like what happened to her as a child. Both Kimiko and Frenchie are griping with this reality that they were forced to do horrible things as children and have harmed and killed other children in the process, and they're trying to process this while coming to terms with how they can make things right.

  • @kingcobra2858
    @kingcobra2858 Місяць тому +5

    I agree with the Vic writing issue, perhaps what they are implying is she cant kill all the sheep fast enough to avoid heavy casualties. Stan, Huey, Butcher, and Frenchie would mostlikely die. Annie might be permanently maimed and Kimiko might get ripped to shreads and eaten before she can fight back. Whatever the case, they didnt address why Vicky would just run. Maybe it would be better if she was shown fighting them off while they run.
    The octopus part I think implies that the octopus is trapped there to die since the Deep is mad. But doesnt explain why she cant breath as soon as the aquarium gets rekt. They maybe put that there for morbid comedy but forgot it would leave a massive plot hole. Also, the Deep is motivated to show his real shitty side this season and killing his octopus gf is that line he crossed to truly give in his darker tendencies. I mean he already did kill(ate) his friend. I think all the stuff he did for Vought and Homelander, even tho against his will, has now corrupted him. He has the opposite arc with A-train. I get what they doing with him but yeah, its not written as well as we all hoped.

    Hey Alteori, just finished this video. i watched it twice to make this comment to ensure I didn't miss anything.
    No offense but I think you missed the mark a bit on this one. Vought/Homelander isn't saying to report bad people, they are saying that the people that they would like to be reported are bad people. The propoganda isn't saying to report gromers, it's to report Starlighters, because Starlighters are "x bad thing" when in reality they aren't, but Vought is tacking it on to make them sound absurdly bad.
    Plus something so serious being sung in a ridiculous uppity christmas son is also the point, so you going out of your way to actual explain/educate on these things is missing the point imo.
    And I know you said that you don't want sympathy, but the argument you used was based in pathos (which I feel doesn't work in this context), despite saying you're making the argument to inform others.

Its similar to how the relationship between Homelander and Ryan where Homelander can't fathom that his son can find him morally apprehensible, not to mention the irony of how Ryan is afraid to speak up about the nature of his relationship with Homelander, until near the end of the episode.
