    Yeah Starlight really annoyed me too.. I wouldn't have minded too much if Starlight takes Hughie's situation badly, thats her character and her flaw for not seeing how he was abused. What annoyed me is that the series itself framed it as Hughie's fault, having him plead, and do that cringey fistpump when Starlight effectively says "Get tested, because your abuse better not effect me".

      Moriarty lost all her range - and sanity - as soon as she botched her face will filler to look like a 47 year old woman. It's visually ugly and distracting. And unlike someone like Leslye Headland, she was never even close to ugly before. She went from being a 7 in looks, to a 3, and now looks 15 years older than she did in even season two.
      Add all of that to her character being a heartless, selfish C-U-Next-Tuesday after her "boyfriend" has been SA'ed twice by Supers, and both Moriarty and Annie, have no redeeming qualities left.

    I officially jumped ship. This season was so bad 1) Not only they had Hughie get assaulted after having to put his father down himself and Annie did fuck all to comfort him, no it was actually HIM that was comforting HER for her boohoo "nobody likes me cause I did abortion" boohoo but then he gets shit on for getting essentially assaulted AGAIN by Shifter because how dare he not recognise that his partner was being too good for him so obviously it was a fake. 2) Frenchie and Kimiko were literally put on ice and reset to what they were AT THE END OF SEASON 3 3) Sage is just Thrawn "hehe we lost our millionaire prisons guy because it was part of my plan, we had lost A train cause that was part of my plan, we got one of the best espionage and assassination supes out there wasted just to get Bob arrested hehe I AMA SO SMARTA " 4) They flip flop Homelander from pretty smart and wise guy and a good manipulator to a stOOpid baboon cry baby same with Ryan he is a good kid but oh no he is getting corrupted but he is good again but oh no how could he kill Grace. 5) Their political commentary went from tongue and cheek jabs at both sides to "RIGHT BAD left good"
    Yeah no I am done I don't care anymore.

      I was done at the end of season 3....this huge battle about to begin, soldier boy brought in to help take care of homelander and ...and ...no one fricken died, not even Maive when she was literally laying on top of soldier boy as the nuke went off, she was useless anyway, but nope, not one single character died. All of the buildup for soldier boy to go right back to sleep and a big nothing burger. I watched season 4 thru UA-cam channels like this one, just showing clips and I see I missed nothing worthwhile

      It was implied the Shapeshifter actually liked most of the people in Annie's life, which is why she hated Annie so much and Annie's selfish behavior. The Shapeshifter might not have been above killing them, but it seemed like she really didn't want to, and was planning to live as Annie for as long as possible. Don't forget; she did the deed with Hughie around 20 times (twice a day over the course of ten days.) I think she really did feel a connection with The Boys, despite claiming to be a sociopath, which is why she despised Annie for taking advantage of all of them.

    I was annoyed at the way Annie handled Hughie being tricked by the shapeshifter too, but as a man I wasn't the least bit surprised that a man having his consent violated by a woman (after being assaulted by a man and a woman in a sex dungeon) would get victim blamed. That's par for the course, and I've seen this happen repeatedly. Surprisingly, one of the few good cases where a man was assaulted by a woman actually came from a scene of Desperate Housewives, where a woman other than the wife literally drugs and ties up a man and tries to force him to get her pregnant. The wife's reaction upon learning this is to show compassion and acknowledge that her husband was SA'd.

If they just did it Butcher's way, they could have eased the kid into it. But because she didn't trust Butcher enough to handle it, she did an info dump on the kid and expected him to just accept it and come with them. That was dumb. He had time with his father, he learned to love his Dad, you don't just expect to wrench that away from the kid, especially after what the kid learned what happened to his Dad. Again, I don't care for Ryan that much, but this was probably the best acting I've seen in the kid, so far. No, it doesn't make him evil, it makes him human.

But then immediately after and for the rest of the season he's still the same sweet and innocent Ryan. Then suddenly in the finale he's shocked to hear about the things HL did when HL himself has never been shy about his indifference towards non supes and even trying to convince Ryan to not care about killing them. I think you forgot homelander is raising his son to hate/belittle humans and any person that is not an alpha level super hero or villain. He is not a father he is a monster trying to decide if his son is friend or foe. When he has reached that moment of clarity that he is foe, he will kill Ryan. Butcher after seeing Ryan kill, has lost all his humanity and love for his wife and her son and become the monster inside him, Kessler.
    Season 5 is going to about resolving whether mercy and love for humanity means the elimination of all supes because the supes represent a force of evil ultimately for humans, leading them into destruction and moral decay as societal norms fall apart and barbarism becomes the norm.

      However, unlike soldier boy who didn't give a damn who was his kid or related to him and was willing to kill them regardless, given that homelander did not have a moral compass and was raised by corrupt people, it is shocking to me that he remotely cares about Ryan in that capacity at all.

    The dated ideas of SA in this show is appalling. I hate that. Hughie didn’t cheat. He was assaulted and taken advantage of by someone pretending to be Annie. It’s the equivalent of somebody spiking your drink at a bar, being dragged to their place, and then being taken advantage of. Yeah, you did technically sleep with another person, but you didn’t want to.
    Now, I can see why Annie would be upset because if you’re going through something and you’re not as fun and spontaneous as you once were and your partner goes for somebody who’s that. It’s the “do you even know me or like me anymore” sort of thing. Also, it’s the horror of somebody using your likeness to do things you wouldn’t normally do or say to a person.
    But Annie’s anger is displaced. It should be all directed at the shifter. She and Hughie should have a long talk about what happened when the anger is gone and they can be open and understanding with each other.

    • @MarvinPowell1
      @MarvinPowell1 Місяць тому +9

      Ryan is still old enough now to know the difference between good and evil, as shown in the puppet show scene. If Ryan was 7 or 8 years old, this would make more sense, but he's like 14-15, at this point. He knows his own mother worked with Mallory and Butcher, and he clearly loved his mother, so even if he didn't fully trust Mallory, he would've stayed with them, for his late mother's sake. He's also clearly seen Homelander can be sociopathic and at the very least, doesn't have emotional control, like how he lasered his own bedroom after seeing the framed portrait. So he knows Homelander is unstable and unpredictable, this a threat.
      Basic survival instincts would have had him stay with Butcher and Mallory. Even if they outright admitted to wanting to use him as a weapon, he could just say No, and what are they going to do to him? Homelander can actually end Ryan's life, however. So it makes NO SENSE why Ryan would go running back to Homelander, especially since the US government and Vought aren't the same entities, so he'd have no reason to believe Mallory would treat him the same as Homelander when he was a child. Ryan's actions make zero sense with what they previously established and set-up with him, especially since Mallory was basically a grandmother to him.

    I do think the writers were leaving it open for Becca to reveal that she actually did cheat on Butcher with Homelander but decided against it.
    In Season 1, Homelander at no point admits to Butcher that it was r***. And in the same scene where he could have admitted to it, he brought a baby within range of an explosive to force Butcher into keeping Stillwell alive long enough for Homelander to interrogate her, then he murdered her right in front of Butcher. He was not in a mood to lie to Butcher.
    Granted, it's possible Homelander genuinely has his head so far up his own ass that he thinks any woman would be grateful if he forced himself on her, and so doesn't consider it r***, but then in Season 2 Becca says to Butcher "you hold me up on this pedestal", and it feels like she's about to admit to something, then switches direction and says she was never really capable of helping Butcher keep himself together.
    But the biggest thing that makes me think Homelander didn't actually r*** her is that he doesn't have other victims. At no point do we see Homelander r***ing anyone else and the show never implies it. But it does demonstrate that literally all of Homelander's other vices are repeated behaviours because he never faces consequences.
    I do think revealing Becca did actually cheat on Butcher was the original intent for the story, but the writers dropped it.

    Unpopular opinion: starlight was mentally tortured by someone who pretended to be her and took over her life also the amount of times they had intercourse (which isn't normal) without Hugie questioning anything is an added factor to that anger and disappointment. She being mad at hugie was pretty reasonable in that case because it simply could be described in two words: "character flaw"
    They made up like 2 seconds later because annie probably realised it wasn't fair. People are overreacting to much about this and especially since people already dislike starlight for the most part
    Peoples reaction was understandable but not fair in my opinion.

The shifter only goes back once to "recharge" her shift for plot and then just shits all over starlights clear hypocrisy and then leaves. There was no torture. It's multiples time implied that Becca didn't like homelander so it's weird she would willingly go with him, considering you can't escape homelander alive. The whole reason why butcher didn't wanted to tell Ryan how he was conceived because he is a product of assault. The show stated multiple times she was raped. And in the comics Becca was also raped so it follows that route. It obviously adds for more rage and shock so why would it not be true when the show itself states it clearly!
      The only people doubting is the audience when the show as well as the comics are clear about it.

      Except it was explained don the show itself that the shapeshifter can steal memories and thoughts of the person she touches, too. It also doesn't excuse the fact she never apologized for her wrong actions and none of the other Boys call Annie out on her shit (which would make it a character flaw; this wasn't a character flaw, the writers legit want you to side with Annie.) Not to mention Kripke trying to gaslight the audience into thinking a "real relationship" means the person you're with treats you like shit and someone genuinely enjoying your company and loving you is some "toxic male incel gamer fantasy." The fact they legit tried to frame Annie's shitty and selfish behavior as "the reasons why she's such a good girlfriend" is insane.
      So no. Had anyone else called out Annie on her behavior, had she apologized, had she remembered the shapeshifter can steal personal memories and thoughts from people, or remembered Hughie was just SA'ed a week ago, and just lost his father, it would make her more redeemable. As it stands, she's just a piece of sh*t who refuses to change or grow up, even after the shapeshifter and Firecracker called her out on it. (But their opinions don't matter, cause they're "bad.")

    I think Homelander cleaning up Ryan's stuff in his apartment/place was either to get rid of anything that reminds him of Ryan in that moment due to his anger and frustration or because he feels like he can only live in a place that is squeaky clean (like it's always been). • @MarvinPowell1
    @MarvinPowell1 Місяць тому +26

    (SPOILERS)
    Hughie gets SA'ed twice in this season, in back-to-back episodes. The showrunner, Eric Kripke, thinks it's "funny" as he said in interviews. On top of that, Hughie is also the victim of emotional (Star)gaslighting from a shapeshifter, and thought he was going to marry the real Annie. And as soon as she gets free, the real Annie treats him like complete shit, once again, and dismisses his SA. Just an absolute C-U-Next-Tuesday of a (super)human being.
    Oh, and they tried to un-gay Frenchie after turning him gay. Nope; that's not gonna work. The Progressive left is gonna hate that, and no one else will buy it. You ruined the character permanently and Kimiko wouldn't want to romantically have anything to do with a gay man now, anyway. (No, most people don't genuinely believe in pansexuality, especially in an already poorly-written show.)
    And the way they handed both Victoria and Mallory were so stupid. It's like they just did those scenes for the sake of fake drama and tension, not because they actually make sense in-character. The Ryan scene was stupid and came completely out of nowhere, and it set up the Victoria Neuman scene with Butcher, right after. It's like they completely derailed the natural progression of events just to force the plot into season five. Because realistically, Ryan would've stayed with Butcher and Mallory (also allowing Homelander to go truly evil in season five since he'd have nothing left in his life), and Butcher would've used Victoria as a spy/asset to get closer to Homelander. But no; can't go doing things that would make sense now!
    And they deny The Deep any kind of redemption arc, simply because he's a straight white male, even though A-Train hurt far more people and acted worse throughout the show's run. If they wanted Homelander to truly look bad, then they could've shown how he mentally abused The Deep and how The Deep could've finally developed bravery and stood up to Homelander by saving the Vought employees (especially after he let his octopus lover pass away), before being taken out by Homelander. But nope. The Deep is just evil now, for no reason, despite always having been more human than A-Train ever was.
    Only thing I liked in this finale was Sage and Firecracker sticking around and not being offed, like most people would've expected. But there's no way I'm returning to season five after this steaming turd of episodes.

      This is why I skipped this season at the halfway point. It took until the season finale for the characters to pretend that their boring subplots didn't nerfed them and/or they reverted back from caricatures of themselves. Speaking of nothing happening, that's the entirety of season 4 in a nutshell. Frenchie getting a hard on over a nothing character only for him to die (something I called out before halfway through the season) is very predictable and deconstructed Frenchie as a character. everyone else does the same thing, such as Butcher seemingly dying and then getting mega buffed because the creators finally wanted to move the overarching story along.

      I think the Shapershifter was supposed to be better than Starlight, that was kind of the point, the carefree, "perfect version" to build on the idea that the real one isn't perfect and can't be that. Its a fact that so many guys would want their SO to be their favorite version of them all the time. That doesn't mean they want a different person, but people can't be like that in reality. The shapeshifter is like that only because she is faking it.
      I honestly wasn't that bothered by the S&M scene with Hughie. He was just tickled, which isn't fun like that, but if he was subjected to other more "s*xual" aspects I'd be more bothered. It is a bit crappy how they gloss over Hughie basically being R'ed by the shapeshifter, like if the genders were reversed, you'd see some serious rage. I don't fault Starlight's initial reaction to it since she also went though some sh*t but it seems the show glosses over it. Like, when a woman gets tricked into s*x its a horrible experience but if it happens to a guy, no big deal, guess he got lucky. Kind of a BS double standard. I'm sure some wouldn't be bothered but Hughie seems like a pretty wholesome dude, and very loyal so I'd think, maintaining character, he'd feel a bit violated by the realization.
      To Alteori's example of it being "the best ever" That, I feel would make it worse. Not only were you tricked, not only did you do it, but you enjoyed it, potentially more than your actual partner, the amount of guilt in addition to the feelings of violation, oof, that'd be rough.
      I think Starlight's Arc this season, cause of her power issues, is stress and anxiety. That seems to be the overall theme of this season, as MM and even Frenchie were shown to buckle under the pressure of the situation. She had her powers early in the season but lost them, I think that is because her goal at the end of the last one was mostly to get away from the crap drama, politics, etc. Its the ironic twist that she was so much more free when she was ignorant of the plight of people, now she has to be a leader, people looking up to her and the real responsibilities that come with it. That disappeared at the end when they were all fleeing, she had the burden lifted allowing her to look at the future FOR HER, more positively.

    • @TearDownGenesis
      @TearDownGenesis Місяць тому

      The shapeshifter was able to be overpowered by Starlight because they have the same strength. It appears that the shapeshifter takes powers, in the scene when she is talking to the real Starlight, she mentions issues with the powers, putting her hands out. So it seems whatever if blocking the original carries over to the shapeshifter.
      This is why I don't think its unreasonable for the shapeshifter to be as strong / stronger than Kimiko, since Starlight is a top tier Supe, and the real starlight was able to beat her.
      Also, its been stated, even before this season, that it will end at 5. In my opinion, they probably had enough for 4.5 seasons , or an extra long (10-12 ep) 4th season, but there's no money in that, so they split it then added a little bit of filler to drag this part out into a full season.

    A lot of this season was an absolute mess. The funniest for me was the amount of people loudly defending Frenchie's random and unprecedented bi romance and the fact that he and Kimiko would never consummate their would-they/won't-they relationship because Kimiko so obviously turned Frenchie down in a previous season and despite previous seasons having set the stage for it; Frenchi was bi and everyone complaining had to get over it.
    So...now...also suddenly and without any real setup Kimiko is somehow clearly in love with Frenchie, always has been, and they're now in a relationship because the end of the season needed them to be so that Kimiko could have her emotional moment? The writers could've just as easy spent the season working on Frenchie and Kimiko undoing the stupid "let's just be friends" moment from last season and given them an actual romantic arc instead of wasting Frenchie's screen time with a romance that came out of nowhere and went nowhere. and giving Kimiko literally anything else to do this season instead of largely wasting her. So much of this season was just story beats that went nowhere.
