  • I've been paddling with my dw board a lot lately. after very briefly trying a friend's APF1350, I immediately called my wing dealer to order one. so it just arrived in the mail, and I take it out to PBay for it's maiden paddle. I decided to try to paddle up the v1 HA1325, it's been on my agenda to try that for a while. then I switch to the 1350. I ended up trying 3 different stabs... the 180 Speed, 202 Pump, 220 Glide. all 4 "sessions" I gave it 8-10 paddle-up attempts (I only included one each in this video so as not to bore the crap out of you all). my thoughts on the end. thanks for watching!
    gear ridden this sesh:
    Armstrong 107L dw board
    HA1325 foil
    APF 1350 foil
    180 speed stab (red & blue shims)
    202 pump stab (red & blue shims)
    220 glide stab (red & blue shims)
    795 HW mast
    60cm fuse
    Black Project SprintX XL paddle

    Nice pumping achievement! I’ve tested the 202 and the 220 for pumping with the 1675 and chose the glide tail eventually. Try to do 2-3 quick pumps and then let it glide in order to stay aerobic

      I def need to let go and let the glide do it's thing. I think from using not-so-great pumpers in the last few years it's burned in my head that my stuff just wont glide. great reminder, thanks bud! I wish you an awesome weekend!

    Super helpful Jeremy, got my 1350 a month ago and love it! I have all those tails as well and thanks for confirming what I was feeling. 202 tail for pumping is definitely the winner although it still feels like 10 years away for success in the flatwater paddle up, but you're right, incredible work out and very valuable time spent, not just a party trick. I also love the 1350/220 for riding swell (in the gorge) with a wing, instant 50% improvement in my ability in that discipline.Thanks Jeremy another really helpful video!

      awesome bud! I'm def into the 202 now, but I needed to use the 220 for a while to get to the point where the 202 got unlocked. lol. but def good once you are up and pumping. I think they developed it for dock starting and the apf so maybe it's more for flatwater party tricks but it's def nice and easy when practicing the leg pumping!

    Coming on nicely my man it's funny how you think you start to understand how foils work then I always seem to find a whole new rabbit hole to go down. Always learning. Great informative film thanks buddy 👍.

      thanks Chris! and the rabbit hole keeps going!!! I love it. this one is so similar to back when we started winging, but a little more patience was required, at least for me. good times, lol. I wish you and your crew and amazing weekend bud! I hope y'all are getting some wind!

    Great video, just starting on my paddle up journey. Havent got a 1675 just yet, will have to start off with my MA1750 in learning to paddle. I'll put the APF1350 on my christmas wishlist😊 Kia Ora from New Zealand 😊

      sup bud! and thanks! the 1675 was a great start for me. my friend is a little bigger and got the 1880 and that worked well for him, but def go 1675 unless you are a big dude. the 1350 could prolly be your first but will def be a little harder. LMK when you get that 1675 and start the paddle process! it's exciting and frustrating like winging! lol. thanks and I wish you an awesome weekend!

    Dude, awesome job on the paddle ups and pumping progression. It's really relevant to me right now, I've got flat water out my window and have made the initial steps but having never been a SUP guy I've got a long ways to go yet. Super interesting hearing your opinions on the tails, I've got the 180 and 220 and have been wondering if there is a better choice. I'm currently failing with the 1675 and 220 but I know it's not the foil/stab, I can barely stand on my 100L. I just need to put in the time.
    The 1350 is awesome in light wind, definitely a lot quicker than the 1675 but still gets up and going in almost nothing. I've been having a ton of fun sailing it, can't wait to see what you do with it and how it works for you. Thanks for the inspiration!

      sup bud! good to hear you are moving in this direction! it's a trip, and I'm starting to really get addicted to the physical challenge of it all. so if anything, the one thing I hope to impart on people new to this is that it takes time and lots of effort, progress is slow and can be frustrating but just look for the little wins everywhere. you need to build stamina, power, speed and technique... it all takes time and won't come over night. you are lucky you have flatwater so close to home! every 20 min paddle sesh is worth it.
      as far as the stab goes, I think you are good with the 220! I did start to see a difference when I started using that, right as I was starting to get up on foil. the 202 seems to be better for me NOW that I'm up and pumping, but it frustrated me a ways back. I paddled the 180 again yesterday and I def prefer the 220 or 202 over that on the flat water, but mostly cause the pumping is just a little faster on the 180 and it's nice to have a slightly slower cadence. as long as you have it, I'd stick to the 1675 until you start to lift, and the 1350 just needs and extra paddle or two more. I haven't winged the 1350 yet, I almost did yesterday. I will soon, I'm interested to see how fast I can get it to go.
      keep me in the loop on your progress! I wish you an awesome weekend!

      Does the 202 lift earlier at lower speed? Do you think it would a good beginner tail for my wife who is working to get her first on-foil flights with a hand-wing on my DW board?

    I also have a couple curved foils which come up easy but have little feedback from pumping vs my flatter ones.

      Yeah all the new HAs have a little bit of it and it def helps for pumping. Luckily that means you can do smaller sizes so they are more fun to turn. What do you ride? Axis?

    Hey Jeremy! Are you using the red shim with the pump 202? And where in the tracks are you setting your mast for flat water paddle ups? Thanks!!

      @@rocketmarket684 yeah it was a double post, I responded in the other one as such:
      sup bud! I'm using a read and blue shim for all my stabs. every time I dial it back I get annoyed with the drag.
      I'm putting my new HAs and the APFs at 10 in the mast track. the HS and the MA I would put at 8, so it's a little more forward. that's what's worked for me, I've done a ton of micro adjustments from sesh to sesh and still come back to 10 with a happy face.
      hope this helps! I wish you an awesome day!!

    I wonder how the new HA 1180 would compare? I debate between it and the 1350 for super light downwinding

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  23 дні тому +3

      so I've used the 1180 maybe 10 times surfing and winging, and I've tried three times to paddle it up - twice on the flat and once on a cray day in bumps that were not steep enough. my technique is getting better, and I'm looking forward to the day I can paddle that up and make it work. I've been saying "I can't wait to get rid of the 1675" so I've been trying hard to dial everything in on that in hopes that I can soon unlock the 1180. then the 1350 comes in, it sits right in the middle, where I just happen to be progression-wise. so once up, the 1180 is great. good pumper, good glide, and decent turning for it's size. the 1350 is a great pumper and glider, turning is the sacrifice. so if you are using a wing, I'd say 1180. but if paddling, and still kinda new to that, the 1350 is great. I hope that helps. LMK what you end up getting!

    • @ericfernand
      @ericfernand 23 дні тому +1

      @@OCEANBOUND1 Cool thanks for the details. Still leaning 1180 I think. I'm only 68kg (so it should be a little easier for me than it would be for you), and my technique is half decent (I can downwind the cabrinha 1050 but just barely (I eventually make a mistake and never connect more than 2-3 minutes at a time)) Just looking for something that has better lowend than that cabrinha 1050... just hard to say if its enough for me to flatwater start. I totally agree with you that regardless that if its a party trick or not, its still great training for the legs and to dial in pump technique, so flatwater startability is a must for me.

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  23 дні тому

      @@ericfernand yeah I certainly aspire to paddle it up… I will some day!! Getting close, been a month since I tried. If you get the 1180 you will use it. You can always add the 1350 after if you are frustrated. LMK what you get and what you think!!

      no not yet. I was going to yesterday but decided to use the 880 instead. I'm going to do some speed tests with it in the next week or so, maybe that'll be my next video. the 1675 was annoying for me so I'm hoping this one feels better to wing with!
