      @@OCEANBOUND1 I really enjoyed the 780. I tried it in some various conditions now and different tails/shims etc and find it as you say a "1 foil quiver" All tho there are some limitations to it which I still have to explore further :D What's your quiver at this moment?

      lol I’m sorry!! I didn’t think I’d like this one so much. It’s a great problem to have, I’ve loved every one I’ve been on but it makes no sense to keep them all. I just got rid of the 780, and I feel like one of these 2 smaller ones have to go… I have no idea which.
      Oh and yeah the wing totally annoyed the crap of me this sesh. It flipped over like 40 times. It’s not the best drifter so I guess the wingtips kept catching? I dunno, doesn’t usually do it that much.

    Also stoked on my HA780 and 980. The 980 is almost "too big" for winging and often feel overfoiled on the 780 in waves. The hype is real, you can size down 2-3 sizes, Would love to try the 580 or 680

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  3 місяці тому +1

      YES! my friend has the same combo and still hasn't used the 980 yet. if you have the 780, don't be afraid of the 580. it rips and still has more glide and low end lift than your brain thinks it should have. I'm not sure it can go faster than say an MA800 but its so small and agile. LMK if you end up getting one! I wish you an awesome week bud.

  • @aquaman1
    @aquaman1 4 місяці тому +2

    Nice swells and riding Tex. I had to search Armstrong website to confirm 580 is surface area cm2. WOW. That is tiny!!! The smallest they sell. You were killing it. There's a huge trend to HA for some reason. I think the SUP pumping and dock starts have fueled this trend. I'm not sold on HA for wing foils because I think guys will want to carve tight turns on waves, like a surfboard. What MA foils do you have? Have you tried the smaller MA625 or MA800? They should be better turning with more predictable stall. Would like to see you compare a small MA to HA.

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  4 місяці тому

      sup bud! indeed, it is 580 sq cm! I never thought I'd be winging on something so small. the design is different from the v1, and so the trade off is speed for lift. the v1 came 2 years ago, I feel like that was when the HA trend started. then people got back to MAs cause they missed the turning on non-HAs. but now Armie created these "smaller" HAs that have great lift/glide/pump for their size... which comes at a great time for me as I'm trying to dip my toes in dw'ing and needed to learn better pumping techniques and whatnot. I think there are a lot of peeps out there in a similar boat. I have an MA1000 and MA800. I rarely take the 800 out, it requires more power so that's for like a nuking day I wanna rip speed or have big waves. the 1000 has been my go-to for an entire year and it changed the way I hit waves. I never cut back as much as I do now, I was more of a down-the-line wave rider with the v1 HAs, but hey, that's where my progression was at that point. I have never tried the MA625 but never had any interest cause the 800 needs specific conditions and I figure the 625 is even more specific. the MAs reenter into the water the best, neither v1 or v2 HA comes close to the cushy landings the MA gives. when it comes to glide, the HA680 has more glide than the MA1000 for sure. the MAs turn different, in a great way. but these HAs have a great "up" pump so I'm finding you can use that in a turn and it feels like you accelerate through the turn, which just gives awesome body sensations. so the HA680 can kinda replace the MA1000 in most situations, and since it's smaller, it's kinda awesome to maneuver.
      ok that was a lot, and I was hoping to get out today to try the 1000 and 680 back-to-back but the wind isn't really cooperating so it's gonna have to wait for another day. but I'm keen to try them both cause I'm so curious if I even want to keep the MA1000. more soon...
      thanks bud, I wish you an amazing day!!

      @aquaman1 4 місяці тому +1

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  4 місяці тому +1

      The thing is fast so as long as there was enough vert, it was game on. But I’m super curious about its low end. I wanna try this back to back with the 680, and both of those against the 1000 as well. And it’s gonna be on the flat cause once I get out in waves I never wanna come back in to change it 😜👊👊

    Looked sick! Do you think a longer mast would have saved you from crashing? Or was it just getting used to the foil?

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  4 місяці тому

      sup bud, and thanks!! longer mast def helps for that, but I prefer the feel of this size mast (79.5cm) and never felt the urge to go more. I came from a 72cm which made me have to think about pitch all the time, but eventually it became second nature and I didn't have to actively think about it. so I'd rather use my mast and know if I fall, it's my own damn fault and it just makes me more determined to get better. make no mistake: I fall. I fall a lot. I include falls in my vids cause I usually think they are funny while editing and worth including. so maybe using a longer mast will make me a more solid rider now, but I think my current mast just makes me a better rider in the future. so that's where my head is at with that :P
      tanks for listening and I wish you an awesome day!!

  • @JpM-es3qc

    Great video! Have a couple questions…
    Is that your normal mast position on the other HAs (almost all the way forward)?
    And does it give you lots of front foot pressure with the 580?
    What shims if any? Thanks!

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  3 місяці тому

      sup bud! I'm using an FG board, and I'm setting the mast to 10 these days, which is 2cm more than any other Armstrong wing I've used. so yes, def very forward, but I could go another 2cm-4cm I think. I feel like it's pretty even for where I put me feet. I do have a relatively narrow stance I guess unless I'm jumping but depends on teh conditions. and I always use a red and blue shim (+1.5). I've been doing that for almost 2 years and just keep going and prefer the way they feel with not a ton of drag.

    Hi mate. I am in the same situation. Have the 980 which I love for low wind but need to decide if 780, 680 or 580 or maybe 780 + 580. At my 85Kg I love the 980 and 780 for the glide in the bumps so maybe the 680 or 580 will have too much less glide compared to the 780 and maybe only woth using the 680 or 580 in waves at my weight or really big bumps.

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  4 місяці тому +1

      sup bud!! since you have the 980, the 780 would be a great next step, but you could def do the 680 if you wanted a bigger difference between the 2. you are about 8kg heavier than me, but that 580 wouldn't be too bad for higher wind days. so 580/780/980 would be a great potential quiver. I feel like if you get the 780 you'd prolly ride that more but I'm not sure what kind of conditions you get. my friend is about the same weight and has the 780/980 quiver and has yet to use the 980 cause he keeps grabbing the 780 every sesh.
      lol sorry to make things so complicated. LMK what you end up doing! and I wish you an amazing day!!

    Sick video!! I'm 85kg's and my quiver has been the 925 and 725, which I absolutely love. I ride the 725 in anything above 16-17kts with some gusts, and the 925 anything below. So from what I hear, the 580 would be more than big enough to replace that 725??

    • @OCEANBOUND1
      @OCEANBOUND1  2 місяці тому +1

      Sup bud!! Thanks!! The 580 would def cover that range. Be warned, the 580 isn’t as fast as the 725 but I don’t really need that speed so it’s rad cause it excels in all the other areas. It certainly has more lift, getting that 725 up in 16-17 is hard for me and the 580 is def easier.

      @OCEANBOUND1  3 місяці тому

      hahaha all good bud. about the 220... I don't have one. I got the 202 thinking it's what I needed for flatwater paddle ups and I'm totally wishing I got the 220. it should in theory give you a little more low-end glide. dude you will love the 780... my buddy at 85kg has the 780 and 980 and hasn't even used the 980 yet... he's hooked on the 780. I think the 180 would be the best option, but I've tried the 205 and the dart and love each of them for different reasons. even the 235 should work good on it. let me know what you get!
