    Man those XLs look massive, especially when you’re just about to hit it and are looking up at it, and it’s rushing towards you. I have to be in the right mindset to do them, build my confidence up through the day.
    For anyone wanting to try it beware of this cautionary tale. Me and my bro were feeling good and decided to hit the XLs. First one went really well. But my bro hadn’t mentally prepared to face the second one straight after the first one. He had plenty of speed to do it, but he hesitated, decided to swerve out of the way of the ramp. He had a lot of speed so the sudden swerve made him lose control and he went over the steep side of the hill. He flew about 10/15 metres and landed directly on his lower back. I was behind him and saw the whole thing happen. I went over the 2nd XL ramp and then came to a stop and ran back up the piste to see if he was ok. He was carried off on a snowmobile stretcher. It took him a couple of months to recover and during that time he was crippled. I think he did semi- permanent nerve damage. Although he’s now back to full strength thank god.
    Morale of the story: mentally prepare for the second jump, have a full plan of what you’re going to do + keep in mind you gain a whole lot of speed when you come off an XL, it can be hard to control it

      Same happened to me kind of. Cleared a big jump and came in to the second with too much speed. Got my arm bone arm bone (ulna) sticking 5cm out of my wrist. Also broke my hand from several places, snapped the tendon and damaged the nerve. Luckily we got some magical surgeons here in Finland

    I've snowboarded around 7-10 times in my life, and today I just went snowboarding for the first time in like 3 years. I'm not a beginner since I can go at pretty fast speed and maneuver rather well without falling (if I'm lucky), but I'm also not skilled enough for these tricks. However, today the trail I went down happened to be the hardest one with freestyles and I didn't know that before going in. It was at night too so it only made it scarier. The slopes are so high it was incredibly hard to control my speed, and then I just had to go at top speed towards a pretty large ramp (maybe a L or XL) that went straight down afterwards. It was terrifying as hell and all I could think off was "oh shit oh shit oh shit" as I was falling through the sky. Of course, I landed poorly and fell down and hit my head hard lol. I did some small and medium ramps afterwards, still poorly landed. And then I did the trail 2 more times and avoided the large ramps, while learning to control my speed with small-med ramps. I have yet learned how to ollie on snowboard so I could only slowly ride through the ramps. It was fun once I learned to control my balance and my landing. Next time I go there, I'll try doing the small and medium ramps at a faster speed in day time, and hopefully eventually I'll become as good as you!

    Love the tips. When jumping off side hits, do you ride up flat based or on an edge and jump off the edge? Would that be the same for if you ride up a sidebank to then jump off it?

    this season i was somewhere with bad skiing so i was only able to do M jumps until recently and i didnt get alot of skiing in.
    on vacation now, felt good on the M jumps, and i saw ppl falling on the XL and i thought hey that could be me. did 4 ankle busters, and since then ive landed on the tranny. i had lots of practice from last season when i did XL again. feels very high risk, but feels good to be doing it in my older age.
    if you want to do XL, i also rec finding some friends who want to do it too. its very risky, i almost broke bones and back 15 years ago on them.

It means that my landing is bad and throws me off for the next jump. I'm not sure whether I'm just not leaning forward enough, or whether it's my take off. Any tips to try and correct this please?

    • @SnowboardProCamp
      @SnowboardProCamp  5 років тому +1

      You really just have to feel it out for yourself. Definitely the small the jump the less spins and flips. But I have seen some pros flip off side hits!

    • @skyofstorms
      @skyofstorms 5 років тому +1

      Another thing to think about is that for larger jumps you have to slow down your rotation for simple tricks. Doing a 3 off a large kicker requires a slower rotation and shallower angle of approach than a larger spin. The reverse is true for small jumps: you have to spin faster for bigger tricks on small/medium jumps.

    • @Synathidy
      @Synathidy 5 років тому +1

      You can do a 360 off ANY jump, even the smallest. In fact, lots of times, people who get really good at 360s can just do them boosting off of flat snow.

    • @lb259
      @lb259 5 років тому +2

      You almost never ride flat base on snowboard (except transition between turns, boxes and powder). Even when going straight, you should have one edge defined (= apply very slight pressure on one edge), otherwise it's easy to catch the edge. The same goes for take offs on straight airs.

      Try and be real light on your feet. Don't press to hard that your starting to lean back because that will throw you ballance off when you in the air and thats why your rolling down windows. Try and stay centers over your board and snap up. Also try going a little faster with less pop just untill you get more comfortable with the sensation of flying through the air. And try some grabs to stabilize in the air. And my last tip would be just practice. IV been riding for 23 years with 5 or so straight up park riding. It takes alot of time and practice.
