Really hope Sony cameras like a7s3 can have in-camera d-squeeze option on its built-in display. Also have the black and white on display only so I can do manually focus better.
I really do think this is the future of the wedding industry. We need to separate ourselves from the dad video, content creators, and the like. Anamorphic is the TRUE cinematic look, no matter what others may argue. I have just invested in a set and I do believe this will separate the wedding Anamorphic shooters from the crowd. I know they look soft, and they have their negatives, but I love that barrel distortion look. They also give that soft skin look that many woman like. So let's see where the industry goes.....
I do love the wide view of Anamorphic lenses and only use them in projects that I have control of. Any events that is run-n-gun, I still prefer to use aspherical lenses for that lightning accurate autofocus.
I'm looking at this anamorphic lens as a great talking head video that will enlarge my studio. Do you think I can get away with sharp videos if I were to stay still? I'd also love to use it for anamorphic photography. What are your thoughts?
Hey Matt, thanks for all the great videos specially those on the FX30 which I own. Question is it a must to turn IBIS off for the Anamorphic lenses? I have a Sirui 24mm at the moment.
I rented a Sirui anamorphic last Christmas for a shoot. It kind of worked for well-lit, locked down shots. But I was trying really hard to hard to use it for gimbal-mounted, remote focused (via Raveneye) moving shots and the tipping point was adding a monitor Mount to the side of the gimbal. It just … was too ambitious. For all the heavy lifting the a7s3 does in low-light, I still craved a brighter image, OSS, and autofocus. And some images were great, but I don’t think I can have all of those things I’m used to with the G Master lenses. Probably will use it again, but not to purchase. I just wouldn’t equip it enough for our use-case.
but all the lenses you are talking about that I see on the internet say that they are apsc and if you want it for Sony you also have to buy an E-type adapter. Don't they sell this lens in full frame and for sony directly? Best regards great video
Maybe I missed it, but what were the other focal lengths Sirui was going to put out in this Saturn line? Did they metion a date? Cant find this info anywhere.
@@fidelecheverria6772no. they really give you a little squeeze and you get oval bokeh, flares, etc. It's a nice, cheaper option. You can use them with a Lumix S5 ii/x with open gate and get stuning footage.
Ive got a 23mm on an xt4 only to find out if i want to use it optimally with Flog and 10bit I need a new PC to desqueeze it lol. Not long now and ill be able to use it 2 years later :D Finally I will dive into video from stills.
@@whoismattHey bruh I come here to ask, because I personally feel you are the only person that can give me clear answer! I exported video in DCP format from premiere pro but the audio and video exported separately in two different files. Should they have exported in a same video? Thanks
How do you find it mixed with other footage? I'd like to implement anamorphic but the truth is we will have to cut quite a bit of the sides off probably to mix it in. Any sample footage we could play with?? Thanks
I personally don't see this as a problem, I change aspect ratio in my videos all the time. I fill the black bar part with some other clip, this could be clouds, scratches or what ever, you fade it out so it is not distracting. So when the image changes aspect ratio, it is not so noticeable. So you keep the total aspect ratio in 16:9 for the whole video.
@@waynosfotoscameras thanks Wayne. Just got my first anamorphic lens yesterday but it's a 1.33 so i think it will play nicely with spherical footage as not too stretched!
@dreamteamfilms3550 just ordered the Blazer Remus 3 package, so will be interesting. I prefer the barrel distortion so went for these. I like the DZO lens as they look so gooey, but they are 5 to 6 times the price! 😮

Who's actually adding bars in post these days? Unless it's for something like Instagram, you should be able to just render out wider ratios natively. UA-cam supports it. I'm pretty sure other places do too.
@katflorida8349 yes, like I'd you have 16:9 footage and want 1.85:1 (which is wider, like star wars) you wouldn't add bars, you would crop the 16:9 footage by placing it in a new 1.85:1 timeline, not add bars.
I've looked it up but it seems to cost almost the same as the 35mm Sirui anamorphic Lense. What are the advantages of the adapter do you still need to do desqueezing etc?
Saw that adapter, it has its issues and doesn't work on all lens, it is also a lot of weight to mount to the front of your lens, you really need rails and a support for them.
Thanks for sharing such an amazing informations about anamorphic lens. Kindly let me know that how can I mount my Nikon Z mount lenses on my oneplus 11.
I don’t understand why you’d buy a lens to distort an image only to correct it in post? That’s like buying a broken car that you have to fix before you can drive it? I’ve obviously misunderstood somewhere…!
Try not to look at it as cropping. Try to look at it as super sampling. You’re squeezing quality into a smaller area. Cars are a bit objective. A better parallel would be paint brushes. Some appeal, some don’t. But at the end of the day they’re just tools we use to create art!
The reason they were designed like this is because the film or sensors at the time were made at a 3:2 ratio, like the old TVs. So the lens then squeezed the image onto a standard film stock, then the projector at the cinema had a desqueeze lens on it. This allowed for the panavision look. This is a very old technology. The difference we have today is that these lenses were insanely expensive and heavy, and now the technology (although not perfect) has been made much cheaper and lighter, allowing access by hobbists and small businesses. That is why this is now becoming popular.
To be honest, for most people the best advice is do not bother going anamorphic. Stick with what you know. Stick with what you have and concentrate more on quality content and storyline
@@katflorida8349 Absolutely not :) . You film with these lenses for a certain feel. SO many films are shot on spherical lenses still. I prefer spherical lenses more just because they feel more like reality. But anamorphic is a very cool look. It just depends on the project and if it fits the story and style.

The Sirui 35mm and 75mm f/1.8 1.33x duo, which cost under $1k combined, still rocks despite having only super 35 coverage.
That 1.33 is not like you recorded with a full frame camera en added blackbars?

Hi Matt. This is above my lvl. Thanks for the free edit video will download and use.
Can't wait for longer focal lengths!
When you film on one, what does it look like on the camera screen? Is it squashed or normal looking?
Ya it will look squeezed but you can de squeeze on a external monitor or some cameras have a de squeeze in camera option
With any normal camera you cannot do any focus as there is no wide.. mode . Focus is super hard. Maybe the xt-5 have the option..
so they are looking at squeezed footage the whole time they are filming in Hollywood? seems it makes it harder to get a shot right
Most modern cameras and field monitors have desqueeze presets when they playback footage.
Thanks Matt! I'm glad I subscribed back when!
Matt, are you switching or adding anamorphic lenses to your films?
I’ll need to buy a few more before I try to film a full wedding in anamorphic
