It's weird the way she treats him like a kid - laying down "ground rules" - it shows that she is in charge of the relationship and emphasizes the imbalance of power between them
They both initially treat this thing like it's just a fling, but then they grow to believe they love each other, and she ends up breaking her own rules.

I watched the show twice and the second time I noticed every little bit of nuance in Claire. Her whole reaction to everything Eric does is a performance. All the outrage over the photo and the class kiss...she was faking being upset to push the blame onto him. This is what manipulative/abusive people do. They act overly hurt or upset so that a minor thing you do ends up seeming more grave and solely your fault. Gaslighting. I felt really bad for him when I watched the show again. Eric is vulnerable and a child. He had a bit of a crush on her before she came onto him in the diner. She knew he had a crush and totally used it to her advantage
@@thezakahmed ok lol… there was multiple scenes with her doing manipulation, gaslighting to him. When I was 17 I would have loved thinking an older woman was interested in me, but I was very naive and not ready for a sexual relationship with someone twice my age… these male victims think they hit the jackpot and deserve the “luckiest boy in America medal” but sooner or later they realize they are the victim of a predator.
Forcing him to delete the photo was the manipulation of respect and love. She gets what she wants but doesn't care of his feelings. The Volvo and "Steph".

This is illegal regardless of how attractive she is hes a senior in high school, if he really liked her he could have waited until after he graduated and not jeopardized her job. @@SharttyWaffle the idea of being groomed and usage of power in this situation. male victims and their point of view, and of course the after math of teacher-student relationships and the emotional scars that leave both the partakers with, but particularly the student. It has nothing to do with "who's fault is it", which many are looking at it as. Or "they could've avoided it". It happened already and it's both of their fault, more the teacher than the student in this particular situation (but most of the time it is anyways). There's no way to "make grooming look bad" without making it look attractive. You know what would of worked? Get ugly actors. Seriously. Every dude is against grooming until Kate Mara wants to date you.
Just because they're attractive doesn't mean they're incapable of being manipulative and abusive. I think this show purposely gave the audience that push-and-pull feeling of finding the couple "attractive" but also knowing that the dynamic is wrong and disturbing. Because in reality, sexual abuse is always wrong and disturbing, even if the individuals are physically attractive. And even if the victim is made to think they want it. Then the whole gray areas of consent are brought to light.

That’s the thing, they honestly could’ve easily been fine and their relationship could’ve actually worked out.
