Thank you so much for posting this video, I have been struggling forever to get this cast-on to work for me, I was fortunate to get an empisal 324 ,a very vintage machine from my neighbour . I have learned alot from your tutorials, what I like most is that you take your time to explain and made me aware of all the little things to take note off.
@@sepi846 hello, it's quite an old yarn so I'm not sure if it's still available. I tend to use regular twist yarn in wool and not too tight a tension to start with as it's easier to use. Hope this helps a bit. X
Wow! Thank you so much! I'm looking at buying this machine and this will be very useful to run through once I get it! One of the best videos I've seen!
Hello, I have just bought a machine and it will be here in a few days. Your video is great especially with YT where I can pause the video and see what is what. The thing that had me smiling all through was your repetitive "OK"! Everything was OK. 😁😁That's fine with me, will come back when my machine arrives. Regards, JennyB.
I just discovered you on youtube and I find your video excellent: very clear and well illustrated explanations. Thank you so much! I am planning to learn to use my Brother KH940 when I retire in a few months. But first I need to find a place where I can get it revised ( I am in Switzerland).
Thank you so much for your kind comment. Congrats on getting your machine and your retirement!. I'm afraid I don't know anyone in Switzerland who can help. I the UK I use Neil Collison, Norwich UK. I give one to one lessons via Zoom, but I don't service or fix machines. Best wishes, Claire.
Do you have a video showing how to knit a name on the cuff of a Christmas stocking? I love your teaching skills and thank you for sharing your experience
@@clairenewberry7388 was not exactly expecting a response on a video as old as this, needed to go d a video on how to set it up...hope that with this video and hope that all the parts are there to set it up
. Ya sadly I got it set up but it didnt come with any of the tools in the "tool box" so I have to figure out what was there. As well as figuring out if anything else is missing
Love this thank you. It worked!!!! Now what settings on the carriage do I do to continue working the piece so I don’t have to extend the needles to the D position manually? Or is this something done on each pass? What is the next recommended step!? Thank you
Hello When you have about half an inch of knitting & you have hung your weights you should be able to knit stockinette without changing anything on the machine.
Hello flat bed love, The needles should go back automatically to 'B' unless you have your needles set on hold. You should be able to knit stockinette with the needles in B position. You shouldn't have to move needles manually Hope this helps. X
Be careful where you buy from as there is a lot of machines which are less than good working order. Try andeeknits, Spartan machine knitting parts, Irene Court, Neil collision (servicing). These are all people I trust to sell/ service items with expert knowledge. You can buy new from Silver Viscount in UK. Hope this helps and apologies for late reply. Claire
Wow. I got 2 machines rescued or they would have gone to the rubbish dump. They been standing for around 30 years. I got the Empisal MOD 360/260 with the ribber, cards and everything. Then got the bulk knitter and ribber. Trying to learn out the manual is not that easy. Hope by end of the day I will have knitted something even if it is a square. Thank you

Apologies for late reply! Thank you for your kind comment. If the yarn keeps breaking it could old yarn. Try using acrylic yarn 4 ply maximum thickness. You may also need a new sponge bar. From UK you can get them from Andeeknits in UK she ships world wide. I give lessons via zoom in English, if this helps Claire.
Hello! This has been such a big help! Thank you for making this video. I have one question tho - I am trying to knit with a yarn (approx. 5mm needles size) and I cant seem to get the size adjustment right. I try to turn the size adjusting plate but it doesnt seem to work, the machine keeps knitting as if using very tiny needles. There is almost no difference between size 5 and 10. :(((((
Thank you for your kind comments. Are you using a standard gauge? It so yarn for size 5mm needles will be too thick for this gauge of machine. Try with four ply or finer. Also, make sure the tension dial is working correctly. Turn carriage over and move the dual from 0-10 and see if the cams move consistently. Hope this helps.
Apologies, I've only just seen this message. Some of the best models are standard punch card models of machine.popular ones are: brother Kh836, 840, 864. Knitmaster/ silver Reed: Sk280, 360. @@clairenewberry7388 Thanks and thank you for sharing the video! I was able to make a few swatches with a smooth 4ply. But my Mohair yarn I am not sure if it will go in this machine.
@@muffsmerinoif it is heavier, it will be a challenge. Up the tension on the carriage and up above on the tension mast. Smaller the number on tension mast puts less tension on there (or minus if you are on a brother)
@@clairenewberry7388 It is a 12 ply mohair. I did manage to make a swatch using every other needle but cleaning the machine a lot. The stitch is very tight on #10 tension...I am not able to make the stitch size any larger? I would like to see what it looks like on every needle. I bought a beautiful barely used singer and ribber machine I believe is standard gauge. I realise now I was probably after a bulky knitting machine which I didn't know exist until now. I believe I will be able to learn so much and make beautiful garments on this machine. I was hoping to make some very loose knit scarves. Do you know if there is an effect I could achieve using the standard machine?
@@muffsmerino that's too heavy for that machine. Bulky would be better. If you are using every other needle and knitting as slack as poss, thens there's not much else you can do except weaving technique perhaps. Claire
