This is the machine that my tia had back in the 80's. She passed in February, but the memories of being by her side while she was working in her machile will stay with me always. Love you forever Tia Catita! 🥺
I got the exact same machine model for $ 20 in the early 80s. Also my first knitting machine! It's still my work horse, though I've several more machines. Have knit everything from cotton washcloths to large afghans and wool blankets on it.
I just got my hand on one of these, with an 8 push button system. it's amazing! it can do so much. Also, I used to be an animator, and seeing you do animation in Knits is simply mind blowing!! talk about a love for the craft!
Thank you and congrats on the machine! They are so fun, I love them. Cool that it’s an 8 button machine there’s so much you can do with that. It’s awesome you’re an animator too!
Someone my father knows acquired lots of yarn, fabric, & one of multiple knitting machines. She asked if I wanted it. It’s a 1962 Brother. I can’t wait to learn how to put it together and use it.
My Mother had one of these when we lived in Japan in the early 60's. My Dad was in the Air Force and we were stationed in Japan for three years. I would not own my a machine until 25 years later. Great video, and thank you.
I just bought a 585 and by going through everything in the box it seems it was owned by a woman on an Air Force base in Japan. Her project notes are incredible, it’s been so special going through all the things in the box of odds and ends it came with
Can you make a video on maintaining the knitting machine? or give me some tips!?, (what oil to use if need to use any ect) im hopefully getting my hands on one in a couple of hours if all goes well! , its abit grubby and been sitting in an attict
Oh how fun! Congrats! Thanks for the topic idea I’ll get on it! I’ve set up 8 vintage machines so far and there are definitely certain things to look out for. For oil I use LPS it doesn’t build up over time.
I have the brother KH580, very similar to yours but with the pushbutton patterning (mid-sixties). I adore it, it's so mechanical and heavy metal! note: mine has the same clamps, they are what came with that series of machines.
Nice machine, you're very lucky! I found one of these, a brand new Singer still wrapped in paper and box from the 1970s, at an op shop. Gifted it to my brother and his girlfriend because they were artsy fartsy. They had no idea what to do with it and sold it. I actually wished I had shipped over to my place. Hopefully the new owners are creating awesome with it 😃
what a blessingggg!! i would flip if i found a free knitting machine lol. i love how you narrate the video, and i appreciate that you tell stories. its super entertaining, and also helpful :)
I just found a mint, never been used, in the box one on Facebook Marketplace for $100. Darn skippy I snapped that up. Haven't set it up yet, but as soon as I finish my spring cleaning, it will be my new obsession! I'm a crocheter, not a knitter, but I'm looking forward to spreading my wings.
Thank you for your video. I just found this at my parents.. what is this?? Well thanks to you now i know mines a brother kh 588 though and they kept it mint. Still had the silica packets in it and paper covering. lol Your art work is amazing!!!!! Skiillllllssss above and beyond! Thank you even though i probably will never use this.
4:22 is that a skipped stitch on the foundation row? Or is it just tangled over a little? It's bothering me lol. (left hand side). Love your machine; what a treasure find!! You are so talented, fantastic works.
Hello, Thank you so much! It’s a type of cast on for machine knitting (every other needle cast-on or utility cast on) It’s not as pretty as an e-wrap cast on but it’s fast and efficient and since I’m creating artwork on a function garment this works perfectly. Thanks again!
Have you done a simple knit and then used latch hook for embellishments? I have my grandma's single bed passap and am hesitant to try latch hook over knit. I will share if and when, but was wondering if it had been done before.
Thanks I’ve done duplicate stitch over plain knitting that’s pretty fun but would get tedious for my artwork. Perfect for extra embellishments. Curious how you do it with a latch hook. Would love to learn more!! Please share.
After watching your video I realize I have the same machine. The instruction booklet didn't have the make or model on it. I tried using it last year after a bit of maintenance. I replaced the sponge bar. The carriage doesn't move smoothly and I'm sure it needs some oil. What kind of lubricant are you using? Thanks for this video!
Maybe you can help me with a question I can't seem to find an answer to. I would love to know if these machines are capable of doing a Jersey Knit or using fiber other yarn? I would love a way to do a linen or wool Jersey Knit fabric panels that have a smaller/tighter weave. My goal is to make a natural stretch fabric from the linen to wear in base layer garments under the stretch wool garments. Jersey Knit linen and wool fabric is prohibitively expensive and so are the commercial knitting machines!
Hello! Thanks for the question. This is whats called a standard gauge 4.5 machine. It can knit yarn weights 0 (lace weight) up to 2 (sport weight). The center knob on the carriage controls tension and can create a tighter or looser knit fabric. I don’t currently have any lace weight yarn to experiment with otherwise I’d test it for you. You can use different fibers in the machine but you’d want to avoid any super fluffy or extra ridged yarn (like a wire or plastic for example) because there’s a lot of moving parts in the machine and they will jam up the machine. Linen should be o.k. Though
Hi i was just wanting to know whats that picture sight on your computer and what settings on that knitting machine to do thoughts pictures I have a real old machine but different from yours please send me some info thankyou
Hello! In this case I made the pattern with an app title Stitch Sketch. I have another video on my channel where I use a Brother KGH930 with Img2Track. I can also use DesignAKnit to transfer images but it’s more expensive and has a steep learning curve.
I still have absolutely no idea how this machine produces that complexity of artwork .-. Like, do you load in each color for each row? Is it.. an automated system based on art you created in the software? I don’t understand
Thanks so much! I have two methods I’ve done picture knitting. One method is on a very simple single bed machine from the 1950’s I show the process in this episode from The Design Network and Michaels Stores: ua-cam.com/video/k8IBsxZ17xU/v-deo.htmlsi=z86mj9D95fU7lo03 I’ve also done it with IMG2track where the computer selects the needles. I demonstrate the process here: ua-cam.com/video/K6NHFA1iukw/v-deo.htmlsi=XwStUwVhCCZ7v0Cj I hope these help clarify the process. I love these machines and would love to see more artists use them💕
Hello and thank you for reaching out ! I've seen them for reasonable prices, meaning under $250 on Ebay, offer up or even craigslist. Here's another video I made where I talk about what to look for in a used machine. ua-cam.com/video/uCt_0X5k2uM/v-deo.htmlsi=nDOCMct9vBPDFCou
Hello! Each color I work with will pass across the bed 1 time. So when I start I alternate which side of the bed each color will be. So for example I’ll put my first color on the left my second color on the right etc.. When I start knitting I’ll pick up color 1 from the left move it across the bed then park color 1 on the right and feed color 2 into the carriage. Please let me know if you need any further explanation.
Those are the wrong clamps for a single bed machine. Those are used when setting up with a ribber. Certain techniques will be more difficult with them.
Thanks! I animate the knitting by creating a bunch of individual frames photographing them and them piecing them together into an animation. I’ve created knit animations that include up to 100 individually knit frames.

Wow - you are so talented. I'm a hand-knitter and so blown away by your projects.
Thank you so much!😊 knitting in all it’s forms is such a wonderful medium full of great associations for people. Keep up the knitting 🧶

Hello from a fellow animator. That's a really cool effect on the finished artwork. Great job!
Thank you that means so much to me☺️
This is truly amazing artwork!! Wow! You are so amazingly talented! ❤
Wow thanks so much! You made my day 🤗
Wow your work is amazing!!
Thank you so much!

Thank you I love making art so much. It’s my passion. That and helping artists share their voice💕

I use LPS . It’s nice because it won’t build up over time. Yeah I oil mine after every big project.
Can you list the model name make etc
I learned something new each time then.
does this machine use a spongebar, or a meta bar? Great video, thank you
It has a sponge bar.

Can you -lease tell me what the program you are using on your tablet? It looks very interesting. Thank you.
That’s I’m using stitch sketch and procreate to draw
What is the tape you used on your bed. That’s a great idea.
Thanks! I actually put nail polish on it hahaha. It rubs off after a few months so it’s not doing any kind of permanent damage or anything.
Good day. I am very interested in the program you are using on your tablet. Could you please tell what it's called? Thankyou
For this piece I’m using stitch sketch. And procreate to draw
The LK150 is a mid-gauge machine so can handle thicker yarns that this model.
What do you set that old machine on for picture knitting thanks
Sorry for my late response. I push in the two “part” buttons on the carriage.
Amazing talent!
Thank you so much 😊
I have an old singer 888. Knitting machine with buttons I would like to try on that one what you do thankyou
That would be amazing please share with me what you make. I’d love to see it!

I want one. Alright I'm going on the Facebook.
Yay! Good luck. They are so fun to work with. Very versatile…. And cute😊
Felicitaciones

Okay, the machine is good. But you are gorgeus🤩
Super❤❤❤
Thank you🥰
Which side do you put your colour wool for picture knitting because your to fast but very good thanks

Thank you! Good to know. I haven’t had a problem with them but if I ever do run into a snag I’ll try switching out the clamps. Thanks for the tip.
I have actually seen one of these in my childhood. Neat!
How is a knit piece animated? Not sure I understand that part.
Thanks! I animate the knitting by creating a bunch of individual frames photographing them and them piecing them together into an animation. I’ve created knit animations that include up to 100 individually knit frames.

Que lástima No entiendo el idioma.!!!👋💖🇺🇾🇺🇾🇺🇾uruguay...
That is a shame I’m so sorry I don’t know yours. I hear google will be adding multi-language dubbing soon🤞
