knitting with the brother lace carriage is quite easy using the punchcard which come with your machine. The one I'm using is card 18 S, which has lots of transfers. Transfers are great for stitch movement and textural interest. Set the punchcard as normal and lock it at row one. knit a minimum of 10 rows and place main carriage at right of knitting. Put lace rails in position. put lace carriage...
Knitting In Beads

In this session I will be showing you how to knit beads into your swatch. I use a very small crochet hook which can be bought from good haberdashery shops. Mine is a 0.6mm metal hook by Aero. You will need a fine strong yarn & beads with a larger hole or specific knitting in beads also.

So wonderful! Thank you so much for making these videos and being such a good explainer and teacher! I have exactly this machine and, I‘ll be honest, I am struggling. There is quite a learning curve on these guys and the old manuals are not super great. So again, thanks so much!
@@lynnemarie7885 thank you so much for your kind comment. I'm glad I am of some help. X
Hello what tension would you start with for a fingering weight merino yarn? Thank you

I would love to see more demos with this singer model ❤

Super-well explained. I have read and re-read this concept and never quite seemed to "get" it - it clicked for me the moment you pointed out the graph with one colour per row, and your explanation was the cherry on top. BRILLIANT Claire, thank you!
Thank you. This is a great tutorial ❤
I love that pattern on your sweater is it tuck stitch
@@elainewilliams4201 thank you. It's not, it's a sort of slip stitch with the black being an elastic yarn x
Hello, I have just bought a machine and it will be here in a few days. Your video is great especially with YT where I can pause the video and see what is what. The thing that had me smiling all through was your repetitive "OK"! Everything was OK. 😁😁That's fine with me, will come back when my machine arrives. Regards, JennyB.
@@JennyB-oj6sk hope the knitting is going well, or I say 'ok' 😄

I'm better now, thank you. I hope you enjoy my recordings
Can i ask a question only because i have been searching youtube for hours trying to find a explanation on one symbol on certian fashion lace punch cards , that usually have the blocks on the right where you remove yarn to transfer stitches, my question stems from sometimes you see the little u turn arrow on the left which i read in a book that it means to knit to rows with the main carriage and then reutrn the lace carriage... 2 questions... 1 if im using a lace carriage that can knit do i just knit two rows with that? or am i bringing in my main carraige, and knitting but if im knitting with my main carriage will it affect the card moving up rows?
Hello Steve, If you are on a brother machine the turning arrows means you knit with the main carriage. The lace carriage should be parked on the left rail. If you have a lace carriage which knits and transfers. You have to change it from transfer setting to knit setting and replace the yarn to knit the plain rows Hope this helps. X
@@clairenewberry7388 I think you still bring in a main carraige, if i have a lace that knits and transfers but im doing fashion lace for instance and i am in a ''red block section'' where you set the dial to fasion lace for example and so i take out my yarn flip it to fashion transfer stitches and move that lace carraige from right to left, now the next arrow has a curved arrow for knit two, i cant knit two with the lace carriaage because its on the opposite side of the bed now then the yarn? so then the main carraige comes in on standard stockinette with side levers down not to do the patter, and knits two rows then can continue with the lace carriage?
That makes sense thanks. I have ended up taking my carriage off on one side and putting it on the other side 😂 which was not the sanest of solutions. @stevemichael8186
Can brother KH 811 do this lace pattern
You explain how to knit perfectly. Thank you very much for giving me confidence xxx

Hello Claire, can I get this machine in Kenya, East Africa?
Non si può avere una traduzione in italiano?
Wow. I got 2 machines rescued or they would have gone to the rubbish dump. They been standing for around 30 years. I got the Empisal MOD 360/260 with the ribber, cards and everything. Then got the bulk knitter and ribber. Trying to learn out the manual is not that easy. Hope by end of the day I will have knitted something even if it is a square. Thank you
Even got knitting machine cupboards.
@@yvonnefinch4562 nice! 🙂
hi @yvonnefinch4562 I also have an empisal 360/260k from my mum. just unpacked it after 15 years . very excited to see what I can knit. unfortunately I do not have the punch cards anymore😪.
what type of yarn/wool do you use? people told me I can only use 2 ply.
@@riadreyer2114 I am not sure. I got as far as cleaning my one machine but hectic busy so not got to the knitting yet. I think one can use any thin wool but I do stand to correction. I see you tube has a lot on knitting machines. Then on facebook is Adri Gibb or Gribb with knitting machines. She is in South Africa and she teaches as well. Maybe Claire here can help us answer your question because it is her channel
thank you sooooo much for this video
You are welcome 😁
Hi there, I would like your advise. I am consiring to buy a chunky Brother knitting machine. I want to use the machine for Intarsia knitting. I saw the KH230 chunky which has an intarsia function inside of the carriage. The other KH260 Chunky you need a external intarsia carriage. Which machine is the best to buy for this specific goal?
For specific intarsia technique only. I would choose the 230( you can buy a specific ribber for it) as a cheaper option. If you are considering other fabrics such as fair isle colour work I would go for the 260. Hope this helps Claire
My stitches all came loose! Thank you so much for the video. Please can we whattsapp video call

I LOVE cotton knit blankets, I'm allergic to wool, and had no idea these machines could do what I don't have the talent or patience for by my arthritis ridden hands. I'm quite sure I'd be a blanket making fool and crank them out like a factory BUT although I am a natural at keeping tension by hand, it was remarked on since I was young, tension and settings on a sewing machine baffle me even though I'm very mechanical. I wonder if these machines would beat me as well. I've been researching these machines on UA-cam and you are by far the best teacher I've come across. You've answered so many questions I had without me having to ask. Had NO idea these machines have the scope they do, lacework! I would never have thought.... Someone mentioned they preferred the European machines to the Japenese, like Brother who I had no idea they were Japanese if they really are. They didn't really elaborate why. I can't remember all the brands thet mentioned, do you have ones from a range of companies? 2nd question, did you make the sweater you're wearing? and if so, by hand or on one of your machines?
Hello Thank you for your very kind comment. I very much appreciate it. Both types of machines have there merits and specialities. The Passap (European) is not so great at lace, but are fabulous on multiple tuck stitches without dropping stitches. The jacquard facility is also second to non on a Passap. The Japanese machines were made in Japan, but latterly the Silver Reed, also a Japanese brand, is now made in China. If you are considering a machine it may be best to start with a Japanese punch card machine. You can start basic structures without using the auto patterning to gain you confidence. The manuals are not great, so a lesson or two may help you on your way. If poss, try to have a demo on a machine and see if it is for you to use with your arthritis. Having said that, you can get a motor to move the carriage on the needle bed. Motors can be pricey but worth it if you decide to take to knitting on a machine. Sending you best wishes and thank you for watching my videos. I hope to make more soon. Best wishes, Claire
Can you give me the names of different knitting machines becoz I want to buy different ones
Apologies, I've only just seen this message. Some of the best models are standard punch card models of machine.popular ones are: brother Kh836, 840, 864. Knitmaster/ silver Reed: Sk280, 360. Buy from trusted people, join face book groups for machine knitting. There's a lot of rubbish out there, so be aware. Thanks for watching. Claire
Hi! Your videos are very useful. Could you please tell me, can we knit wire also on the same machine for jewellery? And what model number is the machine?
You can knit fine wire. It will, however, wear your machine I believe. The model I am using is the brother kh891. Thank you for your kind comment, I am glad they are useful to you.

I just discovered you on youtube and I find your video excellent: very clear and well illustrated explanations. Thank you so much! I am planning to learn to use my Brother KH940 when I retire in a few months. But first I need to find a place where I can get it revised ( I am in Switzerland).
Thank you so much for your kind comment. Congrats on getting your machine and your retirement!. I'm afraid I don't know anyone in Switzerland who can help. I the UK I use Neil Collison, Norwich UK. I give one to one lessons via Zoom, but I don't service or fix machines. Best wishes, Claire.

Well you can knit as wide as 200 needles. But I have a designer friend who joins two sections together and makes a feature of it. Hope this helps x
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your knowledge with us.
Thank you! I only recently learned that you could program patterns with a knitting machine and was looking for more information.
So glad you found me and that you found my videos useful! Happy knitting 🤗
Afternoon thank you for your lesson I would like to know where can I get a knitting machine?
Be careful where you buy from as there is a lot of machines which are less than good working order. Try andeeknits, Spartan machine knitting parts, Irene Court, Neil collision (servicing). These are all people I trust to sell/ service items with expert knowledge. You can buy new from Silver Viscount in UK. Hope this helps and apologies for late reply. Claire
I need that kind of a machine where can I get it?
Depends where you live.
Witam jak ustawić maszyne, karte do tego wzoru?
Make sure card is straight. Use green clips to secure. Rotate round to 1 and lock in position. Knit first preselect row. Release card. Knitt the amount of rows indicated on on the card.
Thank you! I live in southeast Michigan USA where Google search does not reveal Brother or Singer knitting machine groups or repair folks are within 200 miles of me. Sad, however, your videos are helping. I have a Brother KH840, Singer MOD 700 with the ribber and a Singer 151.
I do zoom online courses. Time zone not an issue. Let me know if you need help.
I had a knitting machine in my 20 and only use it one.
I just got one of these from a yardsale with boxes of extras for 5 bucks
