Ha ha, yes: matte black, pastel black etc. Actually, he makes a good point. You can, and even, should, mix different textures and levels of black. It really does work!
John is one of the most interesting people I have ever seen. Such a refreshing out look on life, beauty and living. We would all be much happier people if we could adapt to John's philosophy.
Tess MacDougall : Aww, I just started this video and am SO looking forward to hearing John, 3 minutes in I'm already irritated the host is talking non stop and interrupting.
Exactly my thoughts. People are complaining because she talks so much but this is exactly how an introvert and an extrovert act in a conversation. One listens, the other talks a lot, and if they get the chance, they will then speak and express their opinions. I don't think she was rude, she was just very outgoing and expressive. And yes, most of the times introverts don't express half of what they could've expressed either because they prefer to listen and let the other talk or because they are too afraid to bother the other person by interrupting. They expressed more than once they were friends so I don't think he was that annoyed as some people claimed in the comments. If they have known each other for years, they both know how the other is and thinks. Also, this wasn't an interview, it was a conversation. To me, it felt more like a casual (deep) conversation between two friends rather than a host interviewing a public figure. The roles are different and so are the tempos.
vagrantones and honestly if you pay attention, John interrupts her quite constantly also - including to talk about how women are perceived and how women feel, which I actually found quite cringeworthy (but I don’t blame him at all, his intentions are clearly pure and he’s very young). So even though she was loud and exuberant, he definitely got his piece in.
@marciamcdevit t964 dude thank you, yes. They are both just into the conversation, and they're talking like friends do because they are friends, like wut LMAO
“They’ll go one day, as will their opinion.” Brilliant. Maybe this will help my social anxiety. “This person who could be judging me will someday perish!”
I really thank John Maclean for introducing us to this gem...these types of talk shows are one of a kind and much needed for the current generation where people are loosing their roots and culture, deep thinking towards a life with positivity and lot’s of knowledge one must have about the things which are much needed... Funmi is so beautiful and really love the way she speaks and express herself and John is a unique human being, lot’s of wisdom and ofcourse his artistic qualities.. Waiting for the next part 2 :)
If I went to a house party and saw John sitting on a couch like that I’d be so intrigued... I would work so hard to try to make casual conversation with him. I’d be bringing my A-Game. I’m impressed with the focus and direction this thoughtful interaction took. They both brought up relevant and valid points, and they both really seemed to be reflecting on what the other had said. Such a good example of the type of exchange that we are missing in today’s age.
It is wonderful to see John having a conversation with a friend. He’s so chill. His POV on this subject is so informed. He is so intelligent. Love this pair together, I hope we can see it again!!! ❤❤
I love seeing John like this. He's so self-possessed and elegant in a way that actually does look effortless and natural, as fabulous and artificial as it is ;)
John has such insight, I wish he could have shared more in this “conversation.” He came alive when he managed to share his thoughts, sadly he got out-talked too much. I loved seeing him in a different environment.
Funmi is referring to a more vein/ materialistic type of beauty, as John's reference is more on the spiritual end of beauty. This results in beauty in its' entirety for the every day person today. So relatable. Thank you!
I LOVE this side of John to see him in casual conversation- he does look a little uncomfortable, only because Fumi is slightly over talkative. I wish there had been a better volley of conversation. Seemed as though she wasn’t really listening to him. She is absolutely lovely and beautiful and again I hope to see more of this side of John in the future!
Yes, Funmi being a bit over loud and not seems to be able to read John properly but not on the bad side. But there's a bit a gap between the conversation. John is really adorable.
What a cultural MIX! This is beautiful. I love the contrast on Everything. Both so intelligent. I love this ❤❤❤❤❤ MacLaine's Laugh is so damn CUTE! 🤩🤩🤩
LVioletta1 That would be life! "Now, you're going to come to a curve in the road. Just allow your motor vehicle to round the bend ever so slightly to ensure a seamless journey..."
I would pay for that. I am notoriously stingy, like a straight up purist about things like that (spending real money on cosmetics in games, etc.)... but this would be the exception, hands down. Not even joking lmao
Growing up I was insecure because my mother was petite with an hourglasses figure and I was built more like my dad, muscular and sporty. I got to a point where I just hid in jeans and baggy t-shirts. My mom at one point told me that you don't have to look like someone else to look nice, but you can make sure you look like you made an effort. It shows that you have respect for yourself, which is more important than being someone else's idea of pretty.
Very important messages for people of all ages, to embrace and refine the perfection that is uniquely their own. Rejection of messages that are an antithesis to the self is paramount, even well intended messages that aim to protect people can inadvertently create victims where there were none. John's point to not only be accepting of self, but to also be actionable as a way to appreciate self is true wisdom - take heed. A beautiful conversation with beautiful people, well done Funmi and John xoxo!
John is so lovely and that's why I am watching this video. However, I am just barely tolerating Funmi. She talks over John and doesn't really seem all that interested in his answers. John has flawless manners. Funmi could learn quite a bit from him.
I actually thought this showed they have a more genuine and organic relationship. She seems like a very outgoing person, and he seems shy and more introverted, and I didn't feel as though they were putting on a presentation but more having a genuine discussion between friends.
Lol, Nigerians are generally loud and extrovert, that's what makes Nigeria so bubbly and lively. I think they had a good conversation, it's just the volume of their voices that didn't match. She talks very loud and gestures a lot, while John is more on the quiet side.
Ever since first watching this I have thought SO many times about what John said in regards to women not being seen as fully human, or at least not as human as a man. This statement really opened my eyes, I hadn't considered it before but now that he brought it up I can't let it go. I can't stop noticing instances proving that women are indeed, though often subconsciously, seen almost as subhuman. How the male of the species is seen as the "default" - not only in humans, either!
Yeah this is a thing. Men are the observers, women are the ones being observed. Men are individuals but women are women first and foremost. This paradigm is really illustrated when people are urging eachother to not be s*xist because "she's someone's daughter/mother/wife" SHE'S not someone, she's only important in the context of how men relate to her. Sometimes it's hard not to hate people in general.
It's true, men are viewed as the "default" (funny since the default biological blueprint is female... not that there's a true "human" differentiation ofc). I find this idea fundamentally hurts both sexes in an existential way. I would see it's the primary root of internalized, sex-based neuroticism. If you're male, you get to be a self-actualized individual. But that means you are a blank slate with no inherent value to begin with. You are disposable. You are forced to work to EARN value and become a PROPER human who matters in society. Be a MAN. If you aren't fulfilling your role, you're a loser, you're an incel, nobody cares and nobody will look at you. Make yourself worthy, scum. If you're female, you get to be valued by society by default, & even without any effort you get points. But that's the thing, it's an illusion, because YOU don't matter by default - you aren't even there, except by the virtue of your sex. What matters isn't you as an individual, but the sex you happen to be... the more vulnerable sex, which you never asked to be. & no matter how hard you try, it's not escapable. You're never viewed without the WOMAN stamp on your forehead. You aren't a gamer, you're a girl gamer. Even feminists do it by changing affixes to "-woman," when in reality "-man" in those cases means HUman. There's no need for making a distinction, & it's not empowering to perpetuate the differentiation throughout society where it simply doesn't belong. You will never be able to solely define yourself as you see fit. & once you aren't able to be viewed through that lens, you'd better fade away, because you are primarily a sexual object. If you don't like it, how dare you, you are spoiled and coddled... typical female entitlement. Female. Woman. Girl. FEMALE. It's really brutal, and imho it's no wonder so many people are so insecure in various ways about their sex. Unfortunate, since it's actually a single factor that is only relevant in certain aspects of life, & more important, it is not deterministic outside of the apparent reality of function (reproduction). When it comes to personal individuality, as in self-actualization, the amount of variance between people of the same sex FAR outweighs the average differences between males and females. Why do we still do this to ourselves? Hopefully we can be more rational about it all some day.
I am more in love with John!! Never thought any male could be this feminine yet still has the charisma of a male (without looking like a female wannabe). Great interview and discussion! 👍😍
She’s a strong LOUD energy, John is calming. Reason he seems to sit, stretch back to create space and balance the energy......i get that. I’m uncomfortable around loud people. Interesting interview tho. Both very wise.
Hmm I think it comes from his outlook on life, he seems to be someone who is calm and reserved, someone who doesn't feel they need to rely on being loud or excitable to show who they are. He knows that he brings something to the conversation in being himself but the vibrant energy of the other woman could make him feel he needs to match her also, making him seem uncomfortable. He could just be shy too:)
i feel that the feeling of shyness is a feeling of being uncomfortable. even people that are considered "shy" aren't really shy around people of trust.... like a close sibling. i do believe is the clash of the two atmospheres: (like most of you people said) one being to energetic and the other more calming. i do find interesting listening to the both of them. and their personality not only show themselves but also their cultural norms as weird as that sound. this was crisp and refreshing. but john's "shyness" was somewhat cringe worthy to me. :P
I couldn't agree with him more about all of it. It's stuff I've said before, and to hear it at random from another person so frankly, especially from someone I appreciate, was really a pleasant surprise.
Just finding this after years of following John. He is impeccable in style and manners. This was not an interview-just a woman talking endlessly while he patiently listened..keeping his air of calm. He knows how to act. This is a sad excuse of an interview and I wish I had heard more from him.
I am appalled by those of you who came on this lady's channel and spoke of her in disrespectful ways. Apparently Lord John's refinement hasn't rubbed off on all his fans. He would very likely find your behavior to be crass if it was done to anyone, but to follow him here and do it to his FRIEND? What are you thinking??
Why I do think Funmi is over-speaking, I do believe Funmi and John are so elegant. Funmi is the epitome of Nigerian elegance while John is epitome of English elegance.
Their conversation back and forth reminds me of two friends having a chat...just deep in conversation. So wonderful to hear beauty gurus talk about this. Will definitely be sharing with my kids...excellent message.
Not big on velvet, so gonna suggest an alternative. Hard to conceptualize, though! Hmm... should think about it. Better yet, no, the tactile equivalent of him for me is for sure that smooth matte feel. Black matte surfacing. 👌
I have never loved by seeing a soul more than I have felt for this powerful woman...she is life, love, beauty and truth...John was also very awake and empathetic...but she is a goddess.
i feel bad about it cause she does seem genuine and passionate, but i was struggling with that too... she seems a little too self-centered and female-centered to be very open to everyone else, which doesnt make for good conversation im afraid =( its still nice to see various different people tho, and so lovely seeing lord john maclean in various settings. =)
This wasn't exactly an interview though, just two (very obviously) friends talking about the topic "What is Beauty?" And since beauty is currently a feminine expectation, being discussed by two feminine people, it would not make much sense if the conversation was male-centric.
Beautiful conversation with several fabulous points but 31:00 is of particularly great importance. People should be free to be their own kind of beautiful & express themselves however they please regardless of what body they were born with.
John looks absolutely beautiful here holy fuck. His hair is fantastic and it just adds to his mesmerizing face. Also, it was super interesting watching him act completely unscripted and actually laugh, rather than just giggling slightly omg
I could see the real John from this very interview. He's much like me. He is calm and well a great listener. And the fact that he is not loud and commanding like other Brits. He is such a great human with taste and class,a very unique Gem indeed. He is one in a billions. 👌👌🙏
Wow!! I remember always being shamed of my self thinking I was ugly and covered my arms and legs even on the very hot weather!.This conversation is very interesting!!
My heart broke for you when you spoke of being young and ashamed.. I was that same girl. Too thin. Tall and reed thin. I was called all sorts of "funny" names. As women (and men) we are Constantly being scrutinized. We're too thin, too fat, too dark, too pale. Its endless. I'm 50 now and learned years ago that we are all beautiful. We are each unique and that uniqueness is part of our beauty.
I love how he paired dashing black with seamless black.
Myles Spears ASMR Yes! You have a good eye for catching his various shades of black haha

“You are young” I screamed

Seeing John in such a relaxed, unscripted atmosphere makes him even more beautiful and interesting than he already is.

renee plummer right, but here he's lively - for him! Very natural and lovely. B ut he's always lovely.

I agree. It is a shame this lady hardly let him talk as I was really looking forward to this

He would very likely find your behavior to be crass if it was done to anyone, but to follow him here and do it to his FRIEND? What are you thinking??
Is this a cult?
"beauty is order" I believe I couldn't have found a better answer... but we already knew John was a smart individual after all!
Why I do think Funmi is over-speaking, I do believe Funmi and John are so elegant. Funmi is the epitome of Nigerian elegance while John is epitome of English elegance.
Benjamín Hernández John is a Scot!😋
who da f is funmi??....it just not fun...
Their conversation back and forth reminds me of two friends having a chat...just deep in conversation. So wonderful to hear beauty gurus talk about this. Will definitely be sharing with my kids...excellent message.
They go together so well!! Lovely interview. The african English accent and scottish English accent together are so fun!
Hearing him laugh is like how running your hand across velvet feels, just *hhhhhh*
He looks so good here i cant take my eyes off
Wow I’m really in love with John , I’ve never felt this way about someone like him before.hmmm
SAME
Isn't he gay, ladies? Genuine question btw
He doesn't like labels, but if one were to be given, asexual is probably the closest to correct.
Funmi ... you need to let your interviewee talk Girl ...... I tried to watch your channel but, I got annoyed 😒 by the constant interruption
i feel bad about it cause she does seem genuine and passionate, but i was struggling with that too... she seems a little too self-centered and female-centered to be very open to everyone else, which doesnt make for good conversation im afraid =(
its still nice to see various different people tho, and so lovely seeing lord john maclean in various settings. =)
Feel the same
This wasn't exactly an interview though, just two (very obviously) friends talking about the topic "What is Beauty?" And since beauty is currently a feminine expectation, being discussed by two feminine people, it would not make much sense if the conversation was male-centric.
I'm here for Jhon 😍
I like jon too
How dare you misspell Lord John Maclean's name!
"We're not here for very long. My main interest is to actualize myself as a human being, or just as a form of life."
love that
Look stunning, accents stunning, both stunning
I could see the real John from this very interview. He's much like me. He is calm and well a great listener. And the fact that he is not loud and commanding like other Brits. He is such a great human with taste and class,a very unique Gem indeed. He is one in a billions.
👌👌🙏
Wow!! I remember always being shamed of my self thinking I was ugly and covered my arms and legs even on the very hot weather!.This conversation is very interesting!!
He’s so cute, love this combo!
The host is so talkative.
John Maclean is my favourite ❤️❤️❤️ he looks stunning here
Omg finally John 😍😍❤❤
My heart broke for you when you spoke of being young and ashamed.. I was that same girl. Too thin. Tall and reed thin. I was called all sorts of "funny" names. As women (and men) we are Constantly being scrutinized. We're too thin, too fat, too dark, too pale. Its endless. I'm 50 now and learned years ago that we are all beautiful. We are each unique and that uniqueness is part of our beauty.
2 classy, beautiful people.. I want friends like that.
Seeing him laugh is so... Fabulous
I love you guys, ur wisdom and the inner beauty u embody.
Such an insightful discussion, thank you both for your beautiful minds and souls 💕 (also you both look amaaazing here!)
