      I apologize, I do not mean to waste your time with a possibly unimportant comment, but is it not the entire body that needs nutrition? Perhaps I misunderstood, haha.
      I express remorse, for it is not my intention to take up a lot of your time with a comment that is perhaps insignificant in the grand scheme of life and might ruin the joke. However, it has come to my attention that you implied that the only organ that requires the nutrition obtained by feeding oneself is the stomach, and that is simply not the case. It is possible I might have misinterpreted your intention. Hahahaha.

      Perhaps it could be read as a generalisation, however (as I've already stated) they didn't negatively describe either, therefore the generalisation doesn't matter, since it isn't offending anyone.

    Thank you, John, for pointing out that very many of us do NOT enjoy or appreciate the word "queer" in reference to ourselves or others. Your explanation as to why the "reclaiming" of that word is pointless and, frankly, hurtful, is much more calm and methodical than I've ever managed. I don't particularly care when people use that word for themselves, but when they use it in reference to me or the community at large, I remember all the times I've heard it in hateful contexts and I can't help feeling... furious. I am not strange, I am not unusual, I am not sick.

    • @AryehAmitz
      @AryehAmitz 5 років тому +5

      Delirium24 I mean... people used the word “gay” as an insult all throughout the 90’s and people don’t seem to have a problem with that...
      I think it’s ok to have preferred terms you want people to use. But also realize that almost every word used to describe people of the GLBTNbQ+ community has been used as an insult at one time or another... that’s just me be realistic about actual history.
      It’s all about context, geography, and generation. But others aren’t responsible for intuiting your preferences.
      Personally I identify as non-binary. My only other reason for thinking of “queer” as ok is because in terms of demographics we are outliers. In terms of population people who identify outside of cishet are less than 12% of the population. Actually I’ve seen data that indicates lower numbers than that.
      Anyways I’m a person of numbers. And in terms of language, I personally tend to speak in a more literal way. So the connotative meaning of the word doesn’t seem like an insult to me. And connotation is always in flux. These words are floating signifiers at best...
      I think what’s important is that it’s ok to be different. And that our differences are a source of power and strength instead of a reason to be mistreated and harmed.

      THANK YOU!!! I ALMOST SOBBED WITH RELIEF- I H A T E THAT WORD

    • @buzznovo4779
      @buzznovo4779 Рік тому +4

      I understand that for many people that word brings back very painful memories and there are basically two ways to react to those feelings: avoiding that word or taking charge of that word's meaning and changing it in an act of empowerment. There is no right or wrong reaction. Everyone is determined by their own biography and personality structure to act and react in certain ways. I want to challenge John's claim on the power of words however, which I think he over-pronounces. It is not the words that hold power, its the thoughts they evoke. That is why a change of words often doesn't lead to the desired changes because the thoughts that arise are still the same. Someone who may have been awfully ostracized because of their sexuality will be reminded of their otherness and their feelings of shame regardless whether they use the word "gay" or "homosexual" or "same-sex attraction" etc. The power is within the mind and in the conscious working with our thoughts, not in a change of vocabulary.

    I doubt you have time to read the comments but I just want to say thank you. It's really refreshing to find a man, a proud man who displays femininity and doesn't conflate it with gender. It's a rarity, and fascinating. Brave really. If you're a man and don't conform to gender there is a pressure to push a female label on them, there has to be an explanation for it, a man can't look feminine and beautiful and be a man????? Actually yes, they can. I have nothing against people who do identify outside of their born gender but I'm just noting this distinction. I love it. We need to widen our understanding of gender (or better yet, tear it down). I love your aura and your expression of self. You're so fascinating, you give me the same feeling of 'excitement' I had when I first discovered Bowie or Eddie Izzard. Not to mention that you're well spoken, androgynous, and a wicked sense of humour which get a big fat tick in my book. You've gained a new sub

    I have 3 children. All born biologically male.
    However, I teach my children to accept each person as a human. Wether they’re an equal child or their elder.
    Take for instance, my 5yr old, came over & looked at your appearance while I was watching this video. My child said, “that’s a very pretty person.” Not, “that’s a very pretty boy/girl”. This is because I’ve been into makeup my entire life, as far back as I can remember, so my children’s lives have that as a big part as well. I watch males/females/transgenders/people insure of their gender & have always taught my children to look as every single person as a human & not automatically associate makeup with just female. Just like the colors blue or pink, they do not signify male or female on my life or my children’s life.
    You are a very well educated person & I greatly appreciate that & your personal point of view. I could not agree more, in regards to your view on how to implement change, that we must start with children & how we teach them to view others & the world (animals, governments, finances, the planet, food, etc.).
    Thank you, John 💜

    You're authentic. I like authenticity. It is such a rare quality in the media these days. This is what has drawn me to your channel, and kept me here ever since. The idea you put about a universal, humanistic education approach is on point, and yet so severely ignored these days. Knowledge is power and educating people into a bigger understanding of themselves and the world gives them that power. That's not very sought after by classes that currently hold it in their hands to decide who is (and remains) on top. I think it is marvellous that you voice up these values so eloquently, not only with your words, but your entire choice of demeanour and content focus. Please, keep being genuine and bringing us such great content. :)

      I read your post & think you & I are like-minded in regards to our views on certain things. I Too posted here in the comments section & although it’s a bit long, it’s still only a paragraph lol. So I did a copy/paste & thought I’d share it w/u here. Im curious about your thoughts. 😊:
      --At around 11 min. (& a little before) where John talks about self responsibility & recognizing our own fears when we’re presented w/something we don’t understand is FANTASTIC! I teach a very similar idea to clients in sessions as part of a self healing modality. John talks about teaching self responsibility to children which is vital & so necessary. I teach this to adults that need healing because they weren’t taught this as children. It’s difficult to explain here b/c it’s such a rich subject but John has an awareness about humanity that is a bit different because it goes in a direction that can help the collective to see differently & then make choices that reflect this & I feel this is very needed here right now. Im seeing the trickle down effect of people who think & believe like John more & more. It’s profound & impactful. It makes me wonder, what if we had a system in place that teaches children all the things that our regular education system does not; the topics that we all have wished for at some point & said, “gee if they had only taught this in grade school.” There are things (like this topic for example) that will most likely need generations to completely catch on simply b/c of the depth of healing that needs to occur before the (collective) beliefs of people change. But I feel like once it does, the overall experience of life will become better in all of the ways that really matter. Healing allows us to let go of the old & take in something better & hence will then become a part of what we teach to our children. John has a clarity about things that most of us don’t learn until life teaches it through painful experiences. Teachers like John are very needed here right now & it is because of his beliefs about topics like this, his presence alone has a huge impact on humanity. We come into our incarnations here w/a soul purpose or mission & I can clearly see a part of his & it’s beautiful. It is already helping to raise the mass vibration of the planet. 💚❤️💜

      Selina Gintner how about, “introducing John Maclean”? I think it would be more respectful of John’s choice to maintain areas of privacy in his life. It would also be nicer to introduce John to a greater audience, but of course this is completely up to him. That kind of exposure can create a great momentum of positive support, appreciation, and wonder in John’s skills and persona on UA-cam, but there is also the hate and negative people/attention that come along with greater exposure. We all want our beloved UA-camrs to garner the acknowledgement we feel they deserve, but not all UA-camrs want that kind of recognition and we should respect their needs and comfort zones.

      Yes you’re claiming the word and ‘owning’ it, but if oppressors has never called you that as a negative term, you wouldn’t be using it.... therefore adopting the word is still giving them power in a way.
      I’m not black and it’s generally not my oppression but I found it a very interesting thought exercise.

      Professor R. Chaos i am black and i never say it. I feel like those who do are kind of hypocritical or fooling themselves somewhat if they still get upset when a non black person uses that word. If a word has the ability to make you feel a certain way if the "wrong" person says it then you need to realize that the problem isnt just the speaker but the word itself.

      @fenrusraikar1119 6 років тому +9

      You seem to be confused about what he implied. A reaction means you are simply using your emotions to guide which course to take, rather than thought. No one is diminishing the problem by refusing to use a certain word or, better yet, refusing to give or take any power from it. Language is communication, not ideas, and as such, it is subjected to a myriad of different channels that might or might not aid its ultimate goal. The point here is: there is a problem, but acting like an irrational spoiled brat isn't solving it, as you can see, since you haven't, and neither has anyone. Until you can question and effectively counter someone's reasoning by usage of rational response, you are as good as useless to the cause, and you are effectively doing more hard than good. Reconsider, and maybe take John's advice and "edit", perhaps then people will be more willing to understand.

    I came across your channel recently and I just feel blown away. You’re extremely unique and soft and mysterious, this is so refreshing from everything I’ve been watching on UA-cam.

    I absolutely love John's answer regarding the use of the word "queer". It is quite thought provoking and well said. I agree with him. Liberty is fundamental.

  • @apseudonym

    I respect your take on the word queer and categorisations in general. I'm so tired of the LGBT etc community wanting to label every single orientation and gender. Ambiguity can be nice and refreshing.

    • @rlmush

      Hambone Fakenameington I’m tired of people telling others how to identify. Ambiguity is allowing people to identify as queer without some kind of personal misinformed hot take.

      i do agree somewhat as the matter oftentime confuses me. but i feel as though it depends entirely on the person's preference to use them or not as it brings some of them great joy to be identified as something that isn't 'fag,' 'abomination,' or 'god's mistake.' and i do use these labels as well, but only to a limit that i shall not confuse those who have very little knowledge about the topic.

    THEORY!
    What if John is immortal? What if what he said in one of his filum that he was using the same item since 1400 BC was actually true? Which explains his wild range of vocabulary and knowledge. And that's why he seems like a very old soul. Because I feel like I am watching a documentary about life from a hundred year old person with so much experience.
    Haha I know that's stupid, but wouldn't that be so awesome?
    By the way I love you John.

    "the kind of climate we have now hasn't necessarily changed people's minds; the cost of being open about those prejudiced views are much higher"
    I couldn't agree more. People are just less vocal about being bad people, but we're still bad people. We're still prejudiced. Part of the reason is that instead of educating ignorant people, we just shut them up, so ignorant people become fearful of voicing their ignorance and become more cemented in their ignorant ways.

    A new education. A worldly education. Yes John this is truly the answer. Things such as this will have the power to change the world. It must start with our young ones who must be educated in entirety. Most children are schooled in a bubble learning only what is necessary to get by on the most basic of levels.
