It already is ruined. This is just the death blow.
You see, this is why people fight against big government. Cause you get a thousand smaller branches that go power hungry and really serve little purpose. This literally violates the right to press. It falls under that same branch. The government should just stick to basics and leave the rest of the people to the people.
The issue is that UA-cam has been collecting personal data of people without an account, kids in the UA-cam Kids app, and linking it with Google Ads profiles, all without asking for (or specifically in spite of) the users age being under 13. It's not about people lying on the internet: it's about them telling the truth and Google breaking the law anyway.
@@ndm13 if it was just about UA-cam, this wouldn't be affecting creators. THEY aren't responsible for who is allowed on this site and who clicks on their video... It's not gonna hurt UA-cam, they paid the fine, since it's Google and all... It's the creators it's going to hurt, which in turn WILL end up hurting UA-cam sure, but it's going to END UA-cam and likely MANY careers.
@@TheGauges420 I'm not denying that it's hurting creators. But it's not the law doing it, it's UA-cam themselves. Their "fix" for an algorithm that steals personal data from children is to say "if there's a chance a kid's gonna watch this, let's not serve ads that collect data" instead of "let's not collect data from kids," and this baffling decision is likely going to cause a ton of harm to creators. But the key is that this is UA-cam's "solution": they implemented it, they are there only ones that can change it. Changing the underlying law isn't going to solve anything, although I agree sections of it should be redefined.
Why stop at kids? Let's control what everyone should watch and politically skew it to our preferences

damn right nobody below 13 should use youtube.
I was very happy when I heard UA-cam was separating the content. My sisters view UA-cam off my account and sometimes I find suggestive videos in the history. Even putting it on restricted mode didn't censor the videos. So when UA-cam kids was released I expected to find less kiddy accounts like gacha life and FGTEEV. But all the content is still on the UA-cam app. It sucks that UA-cam wasn't more proactive about the situation and now many people are going to lose their jobs. DanTDM most likely will have problems as well since he plays children's games and refrains from swearing. It's awful because this is his primary job and he'll be a dad soon. It's also sad when you think about how many people dropped out of college to become successful on UA-cam as well. How hardly would have been to simply separate the content?
Watch Jangbricks channel, there is a video adressing this topic. Long story short, Google KNEW it was data mining kids and gave no fucks, to the extent that the government stepped in a really extreme way to try and reign them in.
Then Google said fuck it, our content creators are liable and they will take the brunt of the punishment.
Except kids have lied about their age or even signed in using their parents accounts. According to Google. 2) Is the only way to get fined is if your video is marked as for kids?
"Donating" money to government officials for their campaigns is fine...
Making youtube videos? NOT OKAY!
The government has completely lost it's soul. It is now ok to bribe senators and congressmen but not ok to create content on UA-cam.
This new “rule” is also silly because anything can be for kids. As a 12 year old I was incredibly interested in horror movies. Kids could like literally anything

FTC, COPPA, and UA-cam:
Fucking retarded boomers are the cause of all this
Yep, I hate 'em
While I agree the FTC is way out of line, your comment is a little unfair. Everyone knows kids use UA-cam, and UA-cam pretended they didn't, illegally gathering information from kids and targeting them with horrifying videos. People have also been making horrifying videos largely because they know kids would find them. Something needs to be done and UA-cam was only making things worse. If the industry doesn't self regulate, government will, and no one wants government to regulate media.

I think what UA-cam and the FTC are doing isn't right and they have other ways to protect kids. I don't want my favorite channels to have to go through this bullshit. The FTC doesn't understand shit and they make stuff sound so vague. Apparently to them adults don't like video games, popular music, colorful shit, toys etc. Like wtf? Of course content creators need to be blamed if they market for kids if it's not for kids. As a parent I need to be able to trust creators, be they Disney, Pixar or Arlo

The ones who are doing it with malicious intent, of course they need to be punished. However, those creators are only a fraction of the platform. When did it become the job of the FTC to parent our children? I thought it was a parent's job to oversee their child (minor)'s activities. My Child is my Responsibility, not the responsibility of the government; Until such time as my child is a legal adult and has transgressed the law then and only then should the government intervene.
@thespooksterman When you say anti vaxxers, do you mean the people who believe vax to cause autism? Or People who don't vax due to health reasons that they can't?
The problem is that when parents aren't good at parenting, the rest of us still have a responsibility to make sure their kids are not predated upon by corporations and traumatized with disturbing images. That's why something needs to be done, you don't just doom children to suffer the shortcomings of their parents. This is an issue of trying to come up with a solution and failing miserably, it's certainly not solved by abandoning children just because they're not yours.
