I love this I live in Detroit I started gardening 4 years ago and love it and want to teach other ppl how to grow food and learn how to be self-sufficient self sustainable
It feels so good to watch US-citizen being kind, loving, doing positive things, being intelligent and educated, having goals including the community. There are too many channels reporting only all the crimes, shootings, the awful White House, the crimes of the politicians, and MIC, Pentagon. Thank you for this introduction to this little paradise. Greetings from Australia, Melbourne.
Wow, imagine coming to UA-cam to research for your own community garden project and you come across your old schoolmate? Loving the garden Henry Ford Alumni!
@@marilyngriffin8737 Great job Marilyn! People don't realize how wonderful Michigan soil is; plant it and it will grow. In many parts of th country the soil is sand or clay and needs to be amended, which is costly. That's not an issue in most of Michigan. Have you started a seed exchange? Toledo has a great seed swap, but so many people in the city can't get there. Griffin Gardens is a gift to the city and so are you!
WHAT A BEAUTIFUL GARDEN YOU HAVE CREATED RIGHT WHERE YOU GREW UP!! THIS IS WHAT COMMUNITY REALLY LOOKS LIKE AND WE SHOULD GET BACK TO THIS DYNAMIC ONCE AGAIN.
Monarch Butterflies: plant some milkweed plants, just a weed, but critical for the Monarch Butterfly. They are really quite a unique plant, (and flowers).
I love bees & buy only NO nics-no neanicatanoids to help them feed on safe plants that weren't given ANY pesticides etc! So glad I got this video. You are a great educator. Thank you. I agree that our family history is important & calls to us.
Exceptional! I am doing the same thing with my backyard of the home that my grandmother left. I started springtime 2020. This year I plan to expand into the side lot.
“Make the ‘hood healthy again”! First, thank you for posting and congratulations on your life journey and your new chapter! This is so great!!! I was happy to hear that you’re aware and want to incorporate other health aspects like cover crops, pollinator friendly plants, yoga classes. For a $100 adjacent lot, I’ll be right over 😊 Look forward to see what else happens....
Every inch of land needs to be covered in food trees so that people always have clean organic food to eat, to end poverty, to protect against floods and to make the earth beautiful and clean again.
Respect to this young lady for creating this beautiful garden. I'm in a process of building a community garden here in Kingsville, Ontario just across the border. Maybe we can meet up one day over coffee to ask your expert advise on how to start and proceed with our project. I always met the best people through gardening.
Saving bees is a great thing they are very important in the production of food. When I move into my property in Minnesota, out in the middle of nowhere, I could only find a mother bumble bee and her daughter. Now in fall when they go to where I planted their favorite fall flowering plant, you can see more than 100. Also honey bees that are native to Europe.
What happened to this garden? I checked your channel with so much excitement only to see that you didn't feature it anymore. I saw one video at a different location much further out it seems than this neighborhood one. I was SO looking forward to seeing its progression!
Good job. I hope it keeps getting better. I love your enthusiasm. Bring in the kids, teach the importance of agriculture and real food and change a generation. And if you can't change a generation, changing one family or one neighborhood is still a big win. 👍🏼
This was truly amazing and absolutely beautiful! I look forward to seeing this evolve over time and see her vision for the future. I was blessed to have spent time with this young lady in New York. She has the wonderful talent of taking something that others may pass over, and turning it into something wonderful that everyone wants to be a part of! Keep up the good work Griff!
Great Job, looks like a great resume to what you can do with some space. I bet if you started a non profit for gardening the city of detroit could likely give the organization the silverdome stadium to turn it into a giant garden? using the collapsed roof panels could build raised beds or tiny houses to house the helpers
Woooooooow! I'm thoroughly impressed with the gardens and the wild life. We all have a spiritual home, but most think it's too hard or expensive to build a nest there. Well done lady.
Great idea. I'd think about raised beds with a decent top soil in if the soil on the ground is no good. I think I read that in certain parts of America you can't grow your own vegetables in your own garden. I dont know if that's true but insane if it is. Anyway, this lady needs crowd funding
I just started following her on instagram. Her garden🪴 is beautiful. I can tell she has a beautiful spirit as well. I’m in Warren, Michigan. I am definitely going to check out this garden.
I practice regenerative gardening with annual and perennial crops and soil building plants - all of which promote biodiversity and healthy resilient plants so I really get what you're doing. it's very powerful to create a community garden which can grow and thrive in so many ways, bringing people in to a focal place in your community. It's really healing and uplifting for everyone involved. Adding yoga is also a great idea. It made me smile and warmed my heart to watch your video and I look forward to seeing how it progresses. I want to wish you all the very best! Love to you from Greece. @@marilyngriffin8737
sometimes when people see the beauty you create they might want the same done to their space. most people can take care of a watering schedule, gardening all available land is the ReLOVEution.
I really love this! Have you ever heard of Back to Eden Gardening? It utilizes the mulched live tree debre from tree timing. It creates it own incredibly rich growing beds with no tilling or weeding. Love your project!
Sorry for the late response but yes I plan to do an update video next year! We’ve still been doing the yoga and we’ve even added meditation classes. You should totally move back 🙂
The guy on the motorcycle made me smile. People appreciate beauty and hard work.
I agree!
He was shooting his shot

Happy to show a more positive side of the US! 😊
So inspiring! This is how we save ourselves..growing food is better than growing money!!!
Awesome
Your garden reflects your beauty and intelligence. Keep growing.

So glad you found the video and one time for them Trojans!
Same lol. I just began researching to start my garden and stumbled upon this video of Marilyn. I’m a HF alumni as well.
Not only is your community garden magnificent, but your short natural hair is truly an inspiration to millions.
Thank you!

This is the beauty of America: despite hardship, it is within the power of the citizen to change things for the better.
I couldn’t agree more 🙏🏾❤️
Hello from Texas. You are doing a great job with Griffin Gardens. Keep your dream alive!!!! Good to see anything positive going on in Detroit.
Always good to see anything positive going on anywhere.
I live in Texas now and from Detroit....we have been doing these things for decades just get negative press when it comes to the media.
Excellent job, I am so impressed!
Thank you!! 🙏🏾
We bought the lot next door to our old Chicago home for $1. We’ve moved since, but I miss it!
Great info on Sunflowers as a soil cleaner. (Cannabis is too.)
Efforts like this are one of the reasons we moved back to Detroit. Beautiful creative energy.

I love this idea 😊
I cannot find further videos on your plot. Have you got a separate channel?
I'd love to keep following your journey with this space 😊

Yes I have plenty varieties in the garden :)
This is EXCELLENT. We need to do this everywhere. We need to bulldoze all the garbage dilapidated empty and condemned lots. This is AWESOME.
super inspiring! thank you!
Happy to hear 😊
I'm from Detroit too and want to start my own garden in my childhood neighborhood...this was inspiring :)
Gardening will save us in so many ways. Deep soul work. These gardens will pop!

There are not enough words for how much I love this. We gotta do this in LA!
You should!

we definitely have to connect I love this video ,, I own half of a block currently and I’m going to start a garden as well.
Sorry just seeing this! Lets definitely connect. I'm on IG as mylittlegreenspace or Griffin Gardens on Facebook. How is your garden going?
Claiming back the land?!!!

Very nice garden! 👍🏻🙂

How wonderful and inspiring!
As a FAMUAN and gardener this is so inspiring
Hey FAM!!!!!
the demolished homes rubble could be used for raised beds, almost all things can be used to create sustainable housing.
