I have been helping Christian authors write and publish their books for the past 7 years, and I must say, listening to the accurate and helpful information in this video is a breath of fresh air. This is the very direction my team and I are planning to go in for our clients from next year. We put in too much effort for our clients to have them only make peanuts in sales or visibility due to the high competition and royalty on amazon. I have been researching and developing it for a while and I was glad to see someone talking about this boldly. Many people are a bit skeptical of managing their own publishing websites on their own, so they rather stick with the conventional way of using the big companies that rip them off. This video encourages others to step out in faith. Kudos to you dear sister in Christ!

Excellent.. I am looking at using Draft To Digital to sell my Print books.. I will sell the DIgital PDF version for INSTANT download and offer people the option to buy a print version.. for things like Bible Journals, some times people WANT nice bound book. So I was just looking around and your video popped up.
This sounds SO great! My only concern (and it's a big one!) is the inconsistent quality of amazon's printing! I order my books, and so often there are quality issues. I wish I could find an amazing print on demand printer that focuses on QUALITY. I publish coloring books primarily...but I want a quality product every time! How do you handle returns in this case?
THISSSSS is such a great comment! I like the quality of my KDP books, but it's definitely a matter of personal taste. I no longer sell printed books, but when I did I handled returns the way Amazon does (send it back, then I'll issue the refund).
Im a first-time author. I recently published on kdp, but i am not with kdp select, therefore i can sell on other platforms. Im looking to set up a landing webpage to sell my book. Thank you for sharing. Great info.❤❤
Glad I found you sis! I'm looking forward to diving deeper into your videos. My book will be finished by the end of the year, Lord willing! Question -- Does this also apply if I wanted to sell materials to go along with my book (ie marker set, highlighters, etc)?
Awwww I love that goal! Please keep us updated as you publish!!! That's a great question that I'm not sure how to answer. This method wouldn't work with products you have to pack and ship with the book. You would need to bulk order inventory so you can ship it with your kits. But if you ship the items in the kit separately, this dropship method would work great.
Author copies take forever, though. They don't get prime shipping, as most would expect. What I did, though, was order the copies ahead of time once I got demand for them and then just ship them out myself after accepting orders from my website.
Hello, Stephanie! This is my first time to your channel and I'm so happy that I found you. I just became an author last month and I'm so happy. However, the costs and fees associated with selling my book on Amazon KDP is extensive. I am currently creating educational content for children and ESL learners and I want to maximize my earning potential and you are a God-Sent. In the future, I plan to add motivational books to my library of published books, but using your method for whatever kinds of books that I am writing is going to help me to become more of a successful author. Thank you for a great video. You have a new subscriber! Happy Thanksgiving...Many blessings to you and your family!🥰🦃🙏

@@GodlywoodGirl Hi Stephanie, hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Thank you for an encouraging message. I love this. When I looked into it in my KDP account, the shipping for an author copy was 3-4 weeks. Would you reveal your POD publisher or if you have prime for your KDP orders and that's the workaround for the wait?
Love this question!! I make sure I put on my sales page that the book is printed on demand and won't arrive for 5-10 business days so the customer can make the informed decision to wait BEFORE they purchase. I also usually provide the eBook copy immediately after purchase so they can get started with the material before the printed copy gets there.
This is a great way to do publishing business, I published my first book on Amazon in August but up to now, no sales, I have a problem with inconsistency, and I'm not encouraged to do more but I like the idea of writing books. What should I do?
Thanks Ma'am! I published a book on Amazon and when I saw what I would earn after a sale, I was discouraged. I didn't know what to do next. Thank you for sharing this valuable information.
Thank you so much for this comment! I can completely relate to you because I remember the first time when I realized I would only make $2 per sale if I sold on Amazon. Don't be discouraged! Hi Steph, very helpful, thanks for this. I needed to find out more, after watching KDP videos by other UA-camrs who make it all sound too good to be true. Which company do you use for your POD books? Thanks
Awww this makes me smile! Thank you so much for your feedback! I use MANY companies for my print-on-demand books, it just depends on what type of book I'm looking to sell (notebook journals, spiral, case wrap, jacket, perfect bound, etc)
I use this strategy too! I make my books available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, but most of my marketing directs readers back to my website where margins are higher and they can join my mailing list.
That's awesome! I used Wordpress back in 2021 to build my membership website, but like you said, the learning curve was wayyyyy to high lolol. I've been thinking about trying out Mighty Networks!
I’ve never heard of Mighty Works. I went with Wordpress because of cost and familiarity. From the numbers I looked at, it was a lot cheaper to do it this way and I’m familiar with it from past experience as an SEO blogger. Many clients used Wordpress and preferred to collaborate that way. Gathering from multiple people’s experiences is an amazing way to make the best decisions for your business.
Makes sense. However, you'd still need to pay for printing + drop off the book for shipping (fuel + time) . works out the same as doing it on Amazon tbh.
Thank you very much. You were very helpful. I need to make that leap. I am very much an introvert as well. And, not too techy😟. However, you are inspiring. May God continue to bless you and thanks again 💖🙏🏾 🙏🏾🙏🏾

I always understood that you can list your book on Amazon KDP for any price you want. Amazon does not determine how much you charge for your book, you do. Nice idea to have the book listed on other places.
You are 100% correct, you can list it at whatever you want. It's just that they take a bigger cut if you list it outside of their pricing structure lol. I recorded a video about it - ua-cam.com/video/EBtI7DZgOGs/v-deo.htmlsi=glnczlzjahe1sqov
Hi Cheryl! Thank you so much for the comment! Did you watch the video? In the first 60 seconds I say authors should put their book on Amazon KDP, but I explain why when doing marketing, they should promote the book on their own website and then just use KDP as a dropshipping platform. This way they keep most of their profits and have the customer's email address so they can tell them about their second / third books! I would LOVE to hear your strategy for how you make $1000 a month selling your books on Amazon KDP! Are you able to share how you are doing it? Is it with your author name Cheryl Wright?
AHHHHHH very very cool and welcome to the channel! Thank you so much for subscribing and watching the video! Are you building your UA-cam channel to promote your books?
Oooohhh I love that! I started a feed on TikTok to review Christian romance novels and share thoughts on them. I was thinking of adding those shorts to this channel but I'm not sure if I should combine them or start a new channel! Let me know what you decide!
GREAT question! It's the same as ordering from Amazon, except you'll need to contact Amazon customer service and tell them they damaged the book. This has very rarely happened to me, but when it did Kindle just shipped the customer another copy.
This sounds like a great idea. However, when I ordered author copies in the past, they all had a large banner across the front and back cover of the book that said "Author Copy".
Thanks for watching the video! Proof copies have the banner across the front that says "Not for resale," author copies have no banner. Your book becomes an author copy when you approve the proof and officially publish your book to Amazon. Amazon KDP explains the difference here - kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G7BBN68RYX5UMDZF

You can read the whole policy here (3rd paragraph from the top) - kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G7BBN68RYX5UMDZF
Thank you so much for watching the video! That's a great question. If you have published the book to Amazon, there is no band around the author copy. if you are still in the proofing phase and haven't yet published to Amazon, there's still a band. You'll want to do the dropshipping process I recommend in the video after you approve your final book on KDP and publish it to Amazon :-)

Hi! I am preparing to publish on Amazon KDP, but I used the free ISBN provided by them. Would you recommend getting your own ISBN or continue to use the ISBN from Amazon?
Oooh great question! This is more of a legal question and I'm not a lawyer so I can't answer this question for you. What I'll say is I don't sell my KDP printed books to bookstores so I don't need my own ISBN number, I just use the free one KDP provides. Here's some documentation from KDP about their ISBN policy: "The free ISBN from KDP can only be used on KDP for distribution to Amazon and its distributors. It cannot be used with another publisher or self-publishing service. If you use your own ISBN to publish your paperback, you can use that ISBN to publish your book elsewhere." Excellent.. I am looking at using Draft To Digital to sell my Print books.. I will sell the DIgital PDF version for INSTANT download and offer people the option to buy a print version.. for things like Bible Journals, some times people WANT nice bound book. So I was just looking around and your video popped up.
That's a GREAT strategy! Draft 2 Digital has SO MANY distribution options for your book too, so it's a great way to made additional money!
Great video!! Thank you for sharing your wisdom and faith.
Awwww Wendy thank you so much! That means so much to me! Are you working on any new book projects?
This sounds SO great! My only concern (and it's a big one!) is the inconsistent quality of amazon's printing! I order my books, and so often there are quality issues. I wish I could find an amazing print on demand printer that focuses on QUALITY. I publish coloring books primarily...but I want a quality product every time! How do you handle returns in this case?
THISSSSS is such a great comment! I like the quality of my KDP books, but it's definitely a matter of personal taste. I no longer sell printed books, but when I did I handled returns the way Amazon does (send it back, then I'll issue the refund).
@@GodlywoodGirl thanks so much for your response!
Im a first-time author. I recently published on kdp, but i am not with kdp select, therefore i can sell on other platforms. Im looking to set up a landing webpage to sell my book. Thank you for sharing. Great info.❤❤
Awwww CONGRATULATIONS on publishing and I'm so excited for your journey! Please keep us updated!!
I have been thinking of how to write and publish my book and all this information is so useful.
AHHHH yayyyyy!!!! I'm so excited you're taking this journey! What kind of books do you want to write?
Thank you Stephanie. Just subscribed.
Awwww thank you so much!!! Are you working on a book?
Glad I found you sis! I'm looking forward to diving deeper into your videos. My book will be finished by the end of the year, Lord willing! Question -- Does this also apply if I wanted to sell materials to go along with my book (ie marker set, highlighters, etc)?
Awwww I love that goal! Please keep us updated as you publish!!! That's a great question that I'm not sure how to answer. This method wouldn't work with products you have to pack and ship with the book. You would need to bulk order inventory so you can ship it with your kits. But if you ship the items in the kit separately, this dropship method would work great.
@@GodlywoodGirl got it, thank you!
Author copies take forever, though. They don't get prime shipping, as most would expect. What I did, though, was order the copies ahead of time once I got demand for them and then just ship them out myself after accepting orders from my website.
Okie doke
Love your energy sister in Jesus Christ!!!❤
Awwww this made me smile! Thank you so much!
@@GodlywoodGirl of course you are beautiful 😍
Really, you are a fantastic one. I am happy watching your video. It was a very impressive and nice presentation.
Oh my goodness THANK YOU SO MUCH for this feedback! I'm so grateful! Are you working on a new book?
Awwww you are SO KIND! Thank you for sharing your story and for your encouragement! I love love LOVE that you are already planning out what the Lord wants you to do with your author business. It's so inspiring! If you have some time, I recorded a video showing the exact royalty rates between selling on Amazon vs selling on our own website here - ua-cam.com/video/EBtI7DZgOGs/v-deo.htmlsi=KPi7WcFBoCMRQz5C
@@GodlywoodGirl Hi Stephanie, hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Thank you for an encouraging message. Motivating others is definitely my calling, because God has allowed some traumatic experiences in my life, which have been very difficult tests, but my tests have given me a powerful TESTIMONY and I can't sit on it, because this is why God allowed me to go through, to be a light to others women. I defintely will check out the video that you have provided, for I am definitely inspired to get my own website started from watching your first video and I'm sure, I'll be even more inspired watching the suggested video. Thank you for responding to my message. Have a great weekend!
THANK YOU!! 🙏
Thank YOUUUU
I can’t wait to thank you in my thank you portion of my book!!!
Oh my goodness you are SO KIND! Thank you thank you thank you!

You can 100% do this and earn the rates you choose for your business. I'm so proud of you! Do you know what website host you want to build on?

Thank you so much! I use a ton! Printify is one of my favorites for lined journals.
New subscriber here and I just started publishing on Amazon in Aug. and I do think it's rather expensive. I'm still trying to figure everything out. So glad I came across your channel. Thanks so much.
AHHHHH!! Congratulations on becoming published!!! That is so exciting! Let me know if you have any questions, I can record another tutorial for you!!! Do you write personal development books? I love your UA-cam handle name!

There's GREAT NEWS, sis! Marketing is just a muscle that you have to exercise! It doesn't come naturally to any of us. It's just a skillset we have to learn. I recorded a UA-cam video explaining how to teach yourself marketing here - ua-cam.com/video/2fhh0b8zoMk/v-deo.html What marketing strategies have you tried so far?

good info thanks
Hi Steph, very helpful, thanks for this. I needed to find out more, after watching KDP videos by other UA-camrs who make it all sound too good to be true. Which company do you use for your POD books? Thanks
Awww this makes me smile! Thank you so much for your feedback! I use MANY companies for my print-on-demand books, it just depends on what type of book I'm looking to sell (notebook journals, spiral, case wrap, jacket, perfect bound, etc)
Amen! Thank you for the encouragement.
All glory to God!! Are you working on creating your own author platform?
This is great info. I will try it. Thank you.

@ I do, not a great one, but I don’t have a lot of time and have a lot happening at Busy Mom Media! 😂
Let me know if you need some ideas! I just recorded a UA-cam video sharing some marketing strategies that have worked for me!
Hello good morning I appreciate you doing this video. I do notebooks and journals and planners.
Oh very cool! Are you working on any new journals?
@ Yes I am working on new journals.
Awesome! I just finished a new journal that's all about mindset. I've already started using it for myself lolol!

Great question! I mostly sell eBooks now, but I still will print out lined notebook journals using Printify
Thank you for this video and your network.
Awww you are so kind, Monique! Thank you so much for that feedback!

I use a ton! But one of my favorites for paperback is still KDP, and one of my favorites for lined journals is Printify

Thank you so much for checking out the video! You're awesome!
I use this strategy too! I make my books available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble, but most of my marketing directs readers back to my website where margins are higher and they can join my mailing list.
EXCELLENT excellent excellent! The margins are so much better this way! What website platform did you choose to sell your books on?
@ I use Wordpress self-hosted and Siteground as my host. HUGE learning curve, but I like the extra features and benefits I can offer customers.
Love that!
Makes sense. However, you'd still need to pay for printing + drop off the book for shipping (fuel + time) . works out the same as doing it on Amazon tbh.
Okie doke

I recorded myself setting up an Amazon KDP account and demonstrating the dropshipping method, God willing the video will come out on Monday at 5pm EST. Have you already signed up for KDP?
No, I've not 😔
@@MSRONI2222 that's okay! Introverts unite lol! I recorded a video that's coming out Monday that will show you how to sign up for KDP so you can dropship your books!
Will Amazon not throw a hissy fit about you ordering author copies for resale?
Great question! Amazon gives permission to resell author copies on your own site. It makes them more money when you use them as a dropshipping service rather than another Print-On-Demand company. On their page, they say "You are welcome to resell or give away author copies you ordered from KDP." It's the 3rd paragraph from the top here: kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G7BBN68RYX5UMDZF
I´m wondering about that too...

Awww thank you so much! You are so kind!
Is this a good strategy for a book of cartoons like " The Far Side," by Gary Larsen?....or something similar?
Absolutely! You can do this for any book you dropship.

@GodlywoodGirl oh great 👍 thank you. I shall have a look
When ordering on Amazon as a gift, does the payment section state the customer's address? Can you make specific instructions on this step?
Yes, I can definitely record a video! Thank you for the suggestion!
New subbie! Im still growing my yt channel but want to add to that so AKDP was on my radar and Im so glad I saw this video.
I earn four figures a month (five a year) from Amazon. i would never recommend authors not publish via KDP.
@@GodlywoodGirl I have others products but I want to add books. I may start a new channel just for that, I'm not sure yet.

I would like to do this but New york times won't count sales on personal platform right?
Such a good question! I have no idea how NYTimes counts their bestseller sales.
Can you do both if you want?
Absolutely!!
Great video!
Awww thank you so much for that encouragement! I'm so grateful!
What about returns? If there is a printing issue or the book is damaged in shipping?
GREAT question! It's the same as ordering from Amazon, except you'll need to contact Amazon customer service and tell them they damaged the book. This has very rarely happened to me, but when it did Kindle just shipped the customer another copy.
That is exactly what I do, locally but it's challenging to do that internationally from the Caribbean.
Oh wow Renae!!! That's so amazing! What part of the Caribbean do you live in?

I’m here to listen and get information
Thank you so much for watching!
@@GodlywoodGirl Oooooh that sounds exactly right and I did order them before I approved them. I am definitely going to do this asap thank you for the great information and especially for the clarification on the proofs VS the Author Copy.🙏🏽❤️

You are absolutely right
Thank you so much for the feedback!
@GodlywoodGirl you are welcome
Thank you so much for this video, it'll truly help me get more pay for my efforts in my book. Quick question, would the packaging be in an amazon box and does that matter? God bless!
Love this question! Yes, the packaging comes in a little brown box from KDP.
After Amazon see this video, they will cut out us ordering the author’s copy. 😫
Look at what Amazon KDP says on their website: "You are welcome to resell or give away author copies you ordered from KDP." Why are you afraid of them cutting out something they give us permission to do just because of my video? You can read the whole policy here (3rd paragraph from the top) - kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G7BBN68RYX5UMDZF
Well explained 👍
Awww you are so kind, thank you so much! Do you have your books on KDP?
Great advice love it. Question when you order the author copy doesn’t it come with the band around it? How do you explain that to customers?
Thank you so much for watching the video! That's a great question. If you have published the book to Amazon, there is no band around the author copy. if you are still in the proofing phase and haven't yet published to Amazon, there's still a band. You'll want to do the dropshipping process I recommend in the video after you approve your final book on KDP and publish it to Amazon :-)

I use a TON! It depends on the type of book I'm selling. For blank page notebooks I'm on Printify, for my coloring books I use Amazon KDP, it just depends on the type of book. Which ones have you tried?
@GodlywoodGirl hey thanks for the response. I'm dabbling into KDP but love your suggestion on having your own website.

Hello I have a short ebook I want to upload and share it myself… and want it to be control by me. I am not selling it for that much.
How come you're not selling it for that much?
If you use your own ISBN to publish your paperback, you can use that ISBN to publish your book elsewhere." You can find the full documentation here - kdp.amazon.com/en_US/help/topic/G201834170
