That's the main difference between American culture and say, Asian cultures (although that has become more "Americanized" over the years). While Americans promote the idea of self and self promotion, as well as looking out to find answers to issues and problems, Asian cultures promote the idea of "we" and modesty, and look introspectively at self to find answers. It's not WE need to change, but rather, change starts with ME. And that's reflected in our sports, politics as well as place of work.

Even retired, Yao still has that leadership mentality in mind. After China team lost in World Cup and missed the Olympics in 2019, every line he said in the interviews is basically I am responsible for the loss, don’t stress the players and coaches, even though he is the chairman who affected little on the court.

Equivalent to Bruce Banner stuck in Hulk body. Things would be much different had he let Hulk take over once in the game. Not to take anything away, but perhaps his perception of doing things in a certain way(dunking on people, aggressive play, etc.)while on the court limited his potential.🤔
