Tired of having to turn on/off your lights every day? Want to reduce the amount of algae you get in your aquarium? Go watch my video about light timers for aquariums!
I am absolutely so lucky I found this video. I just bought a 9g flex less then a week ago and needed this info, and this trick actually works and I've already shared a link to this video to others and on YT videos about the felx. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS!!!
I got my 9 gal flex about a month ago and wanted to add a timer so my plants would grow properly, but it always reset to the storm mode (which by the way is awful and terrifies my fish) I contacted Fluval Canada and they offered no help to resolve the issue although I had seen other flex's that went back to white. Happened on this video purely by accident, worked perfectly, now my timer works the way I needed it to. Thank you so much!!! Definitely subscribed!!
This video helped my understand about reducing the white light. I have found that the full White light setting produces too much algae in my tank, and Yellow or Orange does not produce algae, and the plants are growing perfectly. By reducing the white light it gives me a third option that works fine. That storm feature is about the weirdest thing Fluval could have produced, like how to give your fish epilepsy.
if you press the color above the pink setting it will turn on both blue and red light to make that color. you can have white blue and red light if you want.
Shame on a company like Fluval for making this so gimmicky and not in the fishes interest. It should have been just white with a fade in/out & timer setting.
Just bought a used fluval flex, and we’ve been disappointed to discover that the remote is very hit and miss. Occasionally the buttons will work, but most of the time the remote just seems broken, and the lights get stuck on whatever colour they currently are. Any troubleshooting tips??
Hello Aamanda, I haven't had this problem so maybe it's something related to the age of your used Flex. If I had this problem I would try putting in a new battery in the remote. I would also try to see if the battery contacts aren't corroded and still fonctionnal. Worst case scenario, if nothing works, you can still order a new remote directly from Fluval's website, under the spare parts folder. Hope you can fix the issue!
Might be the battery? TBH once you have the colour and intensity set just put in on a time switch and you shouldn't have to use the remote at all. Hope that helps 😉
@@nigelb5341 this is exactly me haha! had to recently change the intensity and had to find the remote. Once set and on a timer it keeps the program (if reset) and you just forget about it.
I tried out green with white for a while and now I don't want it I can't get rid of it even with using the same method that applies to the resetting the star mode EDIT: ok I fixed it by switching to night light and then doing your method. It fixed it 😍
I had to go find the remote and indeed you can't just pull on the notch of the battery tray. There is a locking pin at the bottom that you have to push to then be able to release the battery tray. There should be a drawing with the instructions sketched into the plastic behind the remote.
Any has remote going out on them? Mine doesn't work, i replaced the battery and still won't work. I really wish there are just wired control somewhere instead of having a cheap thin piece of plastic remote
I tried this and nothing makes the lights change ?? IT appears to be stuck in night mode maybe - there are some faint white lights on when I left the lid but not enough to light up the tank. Any other suggestions would be appreciated - thanks
That's odd but it seems like it also happens to some other people, although rare. First I would try making sure all light channels (white and color) are off when trying the procedures I've listed. If that still doesn't work, I would try turning the channels back on and then off and try again. If this still doesn't work I would try getting in contact with Fluval's service team. I really hope that you can resolve the problem!
You need to find a timer that you can plug the light into. The technique shown in this video makes the desired light setting work with a timer. Also in another video (ua-cam.com/video/EhxiU5rSYuE/v-deo.html) I showed a few types of timers that work with the fluval flex if this can help you.
I wouldn't recommend using this light (designed for freshwater aquariums) to make a reef tank, maybe only for a FOWLR tank (fish only with live rock). I don't have extensive experience in marine aquariums so unfortunately I can't answer farther than that.
@@DoAqua No timer , I contacted Fluval and they said they would replace the led fixture under warranty but they needed a copy of the receipt , unfortunately I did not keep the receipt . Lesson learned . Thanks for your help .

Yeah the storm mode is a weird one for sure
I’m so grateful for this video! Thank you!

Thank you so much. I can finally use a timer on my aquarium thanks to this videp
You're welcome! Happy fishkeeping
Thank you for sharing this video, very helpful 🎉
Happy to help!! :D
Thanks, this fixed it for me, now I can use my timers :) cycled the on off on the timer several times and the white stays :)
Perfect! I am happy that it helped out :D
Not all heros wear capes.. some make these types of videos
Thanks haha, I figured other people might need this video after initially struggling myself. Glad I could help out! 😉
Thanks for making this video

Thank you! This was so helpful!
You're welcome Jordan!!
Kind of ridiculous that these lights don’t come with an auto day and night cycle like most aftermarket lights do.
Yup lots of people wonder why it was not a feature

Great tip!

Yeah I've got to say that the storm mode feature is pretty weird.
Thank you!

Mine stays on purple now I can't change it to white I've tried unplugging it only the RG B works :(

I have a 15g flex. I can't for the life of me get the battery compartment on the remote open. Any suggestions?

@Dolbec Aqua Designs yeah I still can't do it. I've got to contact fluval with another issue, so I'll just ask this as well...thank you though

I've read about that happening to a few persons out there. It is unfortunate and forces a complete replacement in the worst cases.

Hello, how can I setup a timer to my fluval flex?
You need to find a timer that you can plug the light into. The technique shown in this video makes the desired light setting work with a timer. Also in another video (ua-cam.com/video/EhxiU5rSYuE/v-deo.html) I showed a few types of timers that work with the fluval flex if this can help you.
I tried doing this to reset my light because it’s just stuck on RGB and won’t turn off but it didn’t work for me 😞
I'm sorry; I've heard about a few rare cases that don't work with this trick. I hope you find a way to fix your issue 😣
For marine the light spectrum how should it be.
I wouldn't recommend using this light (designed for freshwater aquariums) to make a reef tank, maybe only for a FOWLR tank (fish only with live rock).
I don't have extensive experience in marine aquariums so unfortunately I can't answer farther than that.
Can't you click the colour circle in the bottom right to cycle between RGB instead of sitting at one colour?
The RGB cycle is a mode in itself and won't work with the static mode of White+RGB that I recommend here and prefer
Yes. I don't know what model most people hear got but I have had no problem doing what you ask while running the white lights.
I’ve tried everything but still can’t turn off the blue leds , I have to unplug it every night .
This is unfortunate. The tricks mentionned here help a lot of people, I wonder why it does not work for you. Are you using it with a timer?
@@DoAqua No timer , I contacted Fluval and they said they would replace the led fixture under warranty but they needed a copy of the receipt , unfortunately I did not keep the receipt . Lesson learned . Thanks for your help .
@@moosewalt try and see with your local shop if they can find their copy of the receipt
I’ll try but it’s a big box store and not sure if they will help . Thanks .
This has worked for me a few times, but now it seems permanently stuck on storm mode
Glad that it worked and sucks that it seems stuck now, that is so odd, it never happened to me
