B58 is an awesome engine. BMW really upped the game with this. As a Genesis owner, I am always happy to see them win some races.

@user-tq2zb5sc2c Yes but they took one back to Japan and did a complete durability evaluation on it including pulling it down for inspection. They gave it the green light no worries at all.. B58 is a fantastic motor and I'm no BMW fan boy
@The Real Cat of 2020 Toyota also sent BMW a laundry list of improvements that they wanted fixed before Toyota would approve the engine for use in the new Supra. BTW the same with the 4 cylinder engine too.

That 340i is hella quick!! Great race indeed, thanks Sam. I did notice however that the driver in the S5 wasn't using his pedal shift, whereas the other two drivers were. Perhaps to make the races a lot more accurate, have all of them use manual and/or auto for the races as there is some advantage to using your pedal shifts on manual.
I think that's probably because the tune changed the ideal shift point and he was compensating for that. In theory the default shift logic will already be as fast as possible when you're flooring it. Perhaps the genesis driver could have benefited from manual shifting as well (depends on the tune)

Agreed. This just let's you know how seriously underrated the B58 is in most applications. These two tuned cars had to really push it to the limit to compete with a stock car. And I've seen tuned B58s and sheesh! Sure they don't handle like an M3, but if speed is mostly what you're after, you won't miss much over an M3.

@@backtoshallabal6662 for sure! BMW uses super aggressive gearing and they have the tuning just right on these cars. Audi seems to be a bit conservative on their recent cars, even the RS models that used to he untouchable. And of course MB is all about luxury and comfort first, and that limits them on having the edge in dropping the hammer. That aside, I was really shocked how well the tuned G70 kept up with the BMW on a roll. Seems like the Genesis makes a lot of its power up high.
@@hellkitty1014 does a stock 330i, C300, and A4 have more power than lets say.... a stock Type R? how would they do in a drag, roll, and on a track? I want a Type R but the price is too much for a Honda and might as well get a luxury car.
@@backtoshallabal6662 oh, totally agree! USED CTRs are going for $50k+ in my area. New ones are going for $20K+ above MSRP. I believe the handling is better in a CTR than those, but a 330i w/ M-Sport would take it. Audi A4s are ok but the driving involvement is lacking. Of course the C300 will be super comfortable, but I fear I'd get bored after a while since it is such an isolation chamber. Consider the Giulia 2.0 as well. Shockingly fast for a 4cyl and handles like its on rails. Reliability has been interestingly above average as well. I wanted a QF model but they're still crazy expensive.
The B58 is such a beast. People are always surprised when I take off on them in my X3 M40i. I love it.

Considering the 3.0T in the S5 is over 6 years old and hasn't had any updates since, that's impressive. Just what I expected from the B58 though.
The S5 went from supercharged in the B8 to turbo in the B9. Good thing they did because only so much you can do to squeeze power out the the SC platform.
@@FociPoint Less tunable tbh, you could do a dual pulley upgrade to get 450hp already, with a good ECU tune after easily 600hp without any problems. To achieve that in the B9... well it won't be cheap, like really not cheap. Also by the time you are done switching parts, some parts will get either lose or break over time, eventhough you spend crazy money on it. B8 could get all that power while needing 0 maintenance
@@Alexdbre To get 600hp out of the B8/B8.5 is max effort and thats a big IF 600. It's far easier to make power from a turbo as opposed to a SC, thats just a matter of facts. Upgrade/hybrid turbo, intake, dp, upgraded hpfp with a custom e mix or full e gets you closer to 600. Again to get that from the B8 you're talking ported blower, bigger TB, intake, an aggressive pulley ratio, hpfp and lpfp and probably headers anywhere close to 600.

As a VAG lover but also M owner. Totally agreed with this statement, audi needs to step up their game to compete.
People who is driving a performance model wants to win in drag races. Audi, merc, and other similar competitors would lose their market share to bmw in the coming years. The only worthy performance models to win over BMW is TTRS and the CLA45s.
Totally understand why Supra puts B58 in it because it is robust and fast.
Yep and extremely tuneability with the b58. A light weight car like the Supra and the tuning potential (which is already proven) they're running 7-8s quartile on stock Motor.

JB4 isn't really TUNED on the G70 since it only manipulates the ECU to put out as much power as possible. On the other hand, S4 seems to be TUNED w/ STAGE 1/91 OCT. Mod list would be appreciated.
Honestly, I thought the S5 would dominate w/ Stage 1 Tune. Very impressed w/ M340i and seems to be the True Benchmark in Performance even in stock form. G70 did very well only with JB4 to win the Roll.

The S5 was more than likely stock other than a tune or maybe intake. If it had a Intercooler or a DP, it would have gone for a stage 2 tune.
Oddly enough, not sure why they didn't put the 93 tune on. Its free if you get a stage 1 tune from 034

B58 > all in its class. I have two of them, both tuned. One with 600hp and one with 700hp. It’s incredible how much power they make. Only thing holding them back in the transmission only able to hold 600ft*lbs at the wheels. It’s an expensive modification to upgrade, but those that do get 800hp without opening the head. It really is the new 2JZ.
Even stock the M340i is the most perfect daily driver one can wish for.
The EA839 will do the same numbers, the Hyundai 3.3t should too. Small stock motor
Genesis just won both roll races and was still pulling hard.. I am more of a bmw fan but this is the reality.
@@PapiAndrey just wondering, don’t know much about the 3.3 or 3.5 genesis engines, however do you need to upgrade both turbos to get those numbers? The inline 6 has always had an advantage in number of turbos, cams, and of course it’s the most balanced engine you can have. How do the genesis engines hold up to high HP numbers?
I can say that also dor the rs3 and most people don’t go over stage 2 which is 500hp for the rs3 and 470for the b58

It can actually get up to 567lbft on stage 1 93 at the crack. Or 488 lbft at the wheels on a mustang dyno. (With no supporting mods)
The torqe increase from stock feels unreal. Snaps your neck like a Diesel 😂
@@rohinhans7819 would like to see the torque curve on that s5. With a stock turbo the tuned b58 can put some pretty impressive ft*lbs of torque, even on a stock Supra. The disadvantage comes as you move up the rpm range. Torque tends to drop off rapidly after 4500-4800rpm. Trade off for responsiveness. Stock b58 will pul on a stock s58 for a few moments before getting its doors blown off. It’s all fixed by a turbo upgrade, but a lightly tuned b58 will lose up in the top end because of the stock turbo potential an torque limiter so you will need a XHP transmission tune.
@@sambrown8359 yea the torque curve is certainly funky on the S5. It peaks real early and HP drops off at redline. But least in day to day driving it feels awesome. That low end nearly 500 wtq is awesome between lights. Breaks the tires loose every time😂

@@WD.909 nope, this engine and transmission can take alot of abuse. Many people are at nearly 800hp on stock internals without issue. Only upgrading turbo, intake, intercooler and fueling. No need to mess with the engine it self.
I'm currently at a stage 1 93, and my car is happy taking the 430hp and 567lbft with only a tune. (I have a intake aswell, but that's just for sound)
What an amazing matchup and race. I was really hoping that the Genesis would win all of the races, not just the roll races, but the BMW is just simply too much to deal with even in its "air quote" stock form. The Audi truly has the better look of the 3!
it's the launch software and transmission .. the rolls the Genesis was even still pulling hard on the bmw.. and that is just with a so-so jb4 tune.
I think the M340i is best looking out of these 3. And if there was a Stinger GT instead of a G70, then that would be the best looking. IMO…

This race just show you that the m340i is pushing over 400hp and that the 🇩🇪 launch control is a masterpiece. At list the G70 took all the ralls. Just to put it in perspective, the G70 fully loaded cost even after that 1000$ tune, 25k$$ 🇨🇦 less after tax then both S5 and m340i. Lets go shovel snow. 😖

Super curious what tune the G70 is running. If it's an ECU tune it'll be really quick. JB4 will be O.K but slow off the start. Also depends if it has a TCU tune. This is a good one Sam!

Running jb4 map 2 & soon to be map 7 (water methanol injection) via Kia Stinger. The problem I'd with their Launch Control. Definitely put in a Safe mode like their available top speed. Regardless Genesis & Kia came to play while still on their terms.

I have a stinger GT2 with tork ecu and tcu. Catback, Dp Midpipe. Getting 0-60 3.5, I would keep up for sure here. Huge difference I noticed from JB4 tune to Tork Stage 1. All on 93. Also went through hell with Turbo Studs snapping. I recommend not doing it lol

Finally a good one from Sam! But really surprised that the S5 with almost 120 lb ft of more torque and more HP couldn’t beat the stock M340i by a wide margin. Honestly need to see that torque curve if it just drops drastically after 4K rpm. That begs the question, why screw up factory warranty on the Audi and Genesis by modding it when a stock Bimmer would do it!
B58 340i stock is like 380whp, stage 1 b9 s4 is like 350-360whp…that’s why. Bmw just went for with this last gen x40i. However plenty of modded b9 v6 turbo models running 10’s so whatever.
@ D G - Never trust the power numbers these guys say is in their cars. If that S5 had all that tq stated he'd have been halfway to Ottawa by the time the rest caught up. That being said still impressive numbers by a stock 340!

This will be a close race between the g70 and m340i. My buddies jb4 stinger ran a 12.2 and but had a higher trap speed than a stock m340i at 116. The s5 runs high 12’s stock so it will most definitely lose.
It's a tuned S5, and they wake up really well to a tune. My guess is closer race with s5 and g70, while m340i comes last. Should be interesting👌

It all depends on the mods and launch to be honest. It's anybody's game.
I feel like the BMW is easy to launch and should do well consistently, the g70 can take it if it gets a good launch and depending on the tune the s5 can keep up as well.
@Pratagraph I'm guessing more based on a roll, digs rely too much on driver. My guess is S5, G70 340i, but still should be all very close.
I was thinking the same I had a buddy with a tuned stinger that went low 12s which was decent but not enough to beat a tuned Srt6
@@Pratagraph they don’t actually rate whp, but a lot of times you’ll see their rating be about the same as what you see to the wheels.
The S5 would’ve dont better if it wasn’t on 91 octane, or even if it was a different tuner. It has solid torque numbers, but another tuner could sacrifice a little torque on the low end for more torque at higher rpm

The problem with the G70 is the launch control. Even with a TCU tune you need to know how to launch it properly. Was surprised to see even with a jb4 that it was losing to a stock M340i. If the BOV was the problem off the line then definitely deserves a rematch after that's fixed. It was slightly faster on the roll which is still surprising. I wonder what map and what other supporting mods the owner had. With a TCU tune and JB4 that car should be able to hit high 11s easy at sea level at least with a good launch. You can tell the M340i just has a better launch control system that if Genesis decided to ever implement something similar, it would be a different story.

True true. My G70 is currently stock and it pulls very nicely from 2nd or 3rd gear, but is horrible off the line. The powertrain nannies make sure it doesn't really do anything until 25-30mph. On the other hand, there's a video that TWN_2RBO did with a JB4 and TCU tune from Lozic where he took off at a light and hit 70mph before he completed crossing the intersection. Absolutely nuts.

Very interesting race! It's a tough ask, but I'd really like to see this run back with the G70 being properly tuned. (HKS M45IL plugs and a real tune like LAP3) The stock spark plugs can barely handle factory boost levels, so that's a MUST before throwing additional boost at it.
We don't know if the guy did them. I'm assuming he did. I don't know if he changed to an cold air intakes and down pipes?

Yep. A proper ECU tune with HKS plugs and it would be a much different outcome. Especially with a good TCU tune.
Hey so I was running denso in this race at the end of the season they were done, I have the hks now, JB4, lozic TCU, since I've put the hks plugs in, it pulls harder and my 1/4 and 0-60 are much better since

S5 driver was asleep on the hit for the roll races. Other two got the jump
The g70 has just a jb4 with no tcu tune so still shitty oem LC. You saw with the rolls it’s the fastest car once LC taken out the equation. If it had a TCU tune would have taken digs too. Build no boost on launch. You see when S5 doesn’t have aggressive LC it’s not even quicker then stock M340 and it has a real ECU tune not a piggyback.
I do have a tcu it's the lozic, but having issues with blow off valavles in 2nd and bad denso spark plugs
@@willyswheelsg70modding99 yea it wasn’t launching hard at all. With TCU tune even on a bone stock g70/stinger pulls 1.80 60ft easy. I bet you were doing 2.00-2.1 60ft.

The difference in price of these vehicles clearly points buyers to Genesis dealers. If I was 16 years old again and had no concern for my license or insurance these seconds here or there might mean something.
So apparently from a dig the G70's transmission is holding it back which is what we all expected because of that 10 years warranty... it's a shame hyundai is locking the full of potential of that car....

Extremely reliable. It’s so reliable that Toyota decided to use it in their Supra, and we know Toyotas reliability reputation is very important to them, they wouldn’t use that engine on their cars if they didn’t test and trust it.
The european cars are on another level when it comes to HP. The Asians companies will never catch up. It is what it is

340i for the win. I think the only car that can beat it in its class is the last gen RS3. That would be an amazing race. Stock 340i vs stock last gen RS3.

@@DaveThaBossDTB I wouldn’t say it’s a better car. It has a more mod-friendly engine and a much lighter weight body, but I wouldn’t want an RS3 mainly because I wouldn’t be able to breath in it. “Better” is subjective, for me, the better car would be the bigger, more spacious car.

BMW isn't lying about horsepower numbers, they just prefer to use wheel HP instead of crank.
They should write this on spec sheets. They don't. And they are not the only carmaker that underrates stock HP numbers.
If M340i makes 380 wheel hp so thats 470 engine hp 🤷

The b9 is a last gen platform vs the g20 but still keeps up. Tuning for the ea839 has gotten really good, a b9 stage 2 e85 is rediculously quick and you should see what the stage 3s do now.

audi transmission in AMAX mode is really agressive for first 3 gears, s4 in launch control shifts way sharper than a M5 😆
