Hi , many thanks , i am enjoying your videos , and its instructions . This is the best videos on UA-cam , ever......keep up the good works , I wish you and your family , great health , and smooth sailing .
Hello Alex! Great video, and thank you for it! I just did my 5 hp Nissan, which is nearly identical to your motor. While following along the video. I got it done. I also replaced the thermostat while I was at it. It was right simple. Thanks for this great video, and I like your channel. Keep up the good work.
Super nice vídeo. I have bought the same outboard and have to do its first service. This has been very usefull. Thanks!!! And congrats for the channel. I enjoy your videos a lot!
Thanks for doing this video, well done! I have a 1976 Evinrude Starflight 115. Different make and model but I'm hoping what i learned from your video should be much the same for me.
GL4 was what was recommended for me by the engine parts shop. Probably doesn’t matter so much on which you use as most of the time it’s based on the environmental temperature that the engine will be running in.
Well I've got to leave a comment for the algorithm, so it looks like you hit all the high points. Last time I changed my water pump, I didn't get my shift linkage right. I'd reckon I'd better go ahead and replace it before the season starts. So I'd better get cracking,as a famous UA-camr personality says.😁
Verry helpful video. I have a old 2 stroke 6hp Nissan outboard that needs a service. Wanted to get it done by a shop but this doesnt look to hard at all. Saved myself a couple of hundred euros. 👍🏻
Great video! Thanks so much man. Any tips for getting the leg back in the engine? I can't get the last 3 centimeters in somehow, not even when feeling around and turning the propellor? thanks heaps man you rock
@@dennisjansen540 thank you! Best checking that the water feed is also lined up then just give it a good wiggle and good push and it should find its way.
Great video Alex! Is there an air filter on your outboard? Also, when filling the engine oil, place a rag under the filler neck to catch the dribbles. Cheers!
With the gear oil container you Got there you dont need the pump. The whole point with the pointy outlet is that you Can jam it in the filling hole, and squeeze it. Once the lower Unit is full, put back the air bolt (the top one), that’ll make a vacuum, which contains the gearolie inside, so that you can put the filling bolt (bottom one) back in without it spilling.
Hello, I have a problem selecting neutral. In neutral, my propeller must be free? If I adjust it so that my selector neutral is set with a free propeller, I can no longer shift into reverse. Thanks for your advice.
Hello, i recently purchased this engine "used" yearmodell 2018, previous owner said they almost never used it only for short trips and it got a service about a month ago, however.. its pretty hard to swap between gears, i need to apply some force and it dosent feel right, ive never owned a boat engine before so iam not sure if its suppose to be like this. any toughts our ideas that could help ?
There's a metal prong next to the button labeled 'N', what is that called so I can buy the connector? One of the prongs has a little push-in pin too. If it's a battery connector, which prong is ground vs. red?
In my opinion you should always at least try the filler plug first then the drain because if you drain it and that filler plug is stuck it’s not a fun day
Good informative video as usual man! Dude, I went and did what I advised you to do, I went and bought an Albin Vega 27 last week... 😳 Oh horror, I have never sailed before, guess I'll be learning quick! 😁 So this summer I'll be practicing in the Baltic sea (I live in northern Sweden) and the year after I'll sail out on the big boy seas! My goal is to try caching every sort of fish there is in the world, think I'll be blogging about it, maybe write a book! Am I crazy? Yes sir, I have not one paddle in the water! 😇😂
Do you know how to unclog the water cooling system I have a 2 horse mariner and something inside the engine is plugged. It runs but I would feel bad using it with a bad cooling system
Depends what’s blocking it but you can try a barnacle bust in a bucket and run it and see if that cleans it out. Other then that just make sure the impeller is good.
I have Tohatsu 6hp engine and I have a problem. When engine warms up to working temperature white smokes comes from water. on any gears and RPMS. And the smell is not good. What could couse this type of problems? Not a lot of smokes but everyone can see it when i am going out of the shore. Do you have any advice where to search the problem?
I do it every year just as a habit. My outboard gets little use as I have a sailboat. It’s also good to know that it’s in great condition when out on the water. The manufacturer will recommend a service interval that should be the max.
@@AlexGoesSailing service interval is something I always wonder about. Manuals say every 100 hrs for both gear & engine oil but I’ve started leaving gear oil to probably once a year as long as it’s run in and has no water in with oil. Engine oil is usually read for changing by the time you’ve done 100hr. Although it’s usual clear on the dipstick it’s usually black when you drain it from bottom. Nice to watch thou for comparison (ps. Mine is in fresh water but probably does 300hrs a year)
It can be done but it’s a sealed unit so you would have to use some sort of nozzle in the top hole that can let air in at the same time. A lot cleaner doing the way it’s recommended by the manufacturer.
Ok, so not high production values just a guy showing us how to service an outboard which is exactly what I wanted! Thanks!
Glad you liked it! Hopefully it helped.
Little trick. Put a small bit of grease on your impeller key and it'll stick to the drive shaft. Brilliant video and very informative. Well done!
Great tip!
Here to lean the basics, awesome video

Crystal clear. I did an outboard course but didn't get anything written down so this was amazing video

Clearest, most intelligent video I've seen on servicing this outboard, thanks. Do you use the battery-charging feature?

No air filter and the rag would have helped. Filming and pouring is hard haha

True but it’s much easier with the hose and less messy.
