    So enjoyable to watch you throw the pottery on the wheel. i really like your beautiful new glazes!! A few years back i learned a bit about pottery at a senior center in Colorado Springs, it was a fun to learn and make smaller pottery items. You made me smile. Thanks

    Me trying to make 4 matching mugs.

    • @benpatterson4452
      @benpatterson4452 5 років тому +2

      One of the tricks to making a matching set, is start with the same amount of clay. As long as you are not removing too much, during the centering, you should end up with wares that are similar in size. Of course measuring height and width, is also advised.

    • @coldfire05
      @coldfire05 5 років тому +4

      Also it helps to use like a bamboo skewer. Cut one length for the width, and another for the height and make a cross of the two measured sticks. I use a wire bread tie to fasten them and trim off the extra wire. It's a handy little too too have around for such tasks.

    #7,#13, #17, #22...it’s hard to tell from the top view but the lip on #22 looks more straight up as opposed to tipped out, which is my favored style for coffee cups as I feel they slosh less when I’m walking around with my coffee. I love the twists on #7. Good stuff!

    Hi Jon! So you’re looking for ideas/inspiration for your ceramics? How about picking a theme, and build upon that idea in doing a mug or a vase? For example, for a project I did in ceramics in college I built a face mug. Theme, “under the sea”. I used a sea shell, and molded a negative out of it so I can make positive moldings of seashells for my ceramic piece. Then with my carving tool, I created seaweed into my mug. Then glazing was a bit challenging, but it came out beautiful!

    Hey Jon! Such a great video... your studio is gorgeous! I hate pulling handles, and I have a small, hand-held extruder; do you know where I could have a die cut to extrude a handle? The ones that came with it are tiny. Congratulations on your new studio... thanks again for the great videos.

    Nice mugs! You said that they were all about a pound, what are the other (approximate) dimensions? I've been trying to work on the thickness of my walls, and I think I've ventured a little to the thin side of "good". I'd guess those mugs are 4-5" high and 2.5-3.5" inner diameter? That would make them 14-16 ounces (volume) after firing? Thanks for your videos, tips, and energy!

    Like them all, but... I do appreciate a rounded bulge shape versus the straight sides. I do like the extra design elements (I don't know the "proper" names to call them...ummmmm... Like the "swirls" on #7, #9, #16 or the "dent" things on #14 & #15.
    Looks like the new extruder is working great, and the studio looks awesome! Late comment: the new Mayco glazes are gorgeous. Big fan of the speckled ones and others that have random color bits and pieces (another thing I don't know the proper name for).
    Really love how you showed the names of who gets each mug. VERY COOL! Any chance you will continue doing that for other Kickstarter items? I am so jazzed - can't wait to get my twisted mug, and that would be extra exciting!!!
