What an absolutely gorgeous vehicle, from front to back. The proportions, the lines, everything just works. It has an 'edge' that distinguishes it from other models.
I own a 2022...against its competitors, the M240i is a marvel of engineering and a true everyday car. The design is too unique for many, but I love it especially the 'hated' taillights (which comically were added to the M2). Lastly if you're more of a value shopper, the performance & overall specs on the M240i against the new M2 should make you realize you don't 'really' need an M2.
Agreed! The M240i is an incredibly potent performance car, but also a perfectly useable every day vehicle. It stacks up really well against it's competitors.
Thanks for this exhaustive tour of this vehicle. I’ve ordered one in Portimao Blue with those 50th anniversary badges and iDrive 8 and this is the first video I have seen with both. Thanks for that! 👍
What interior color did you choose ? I thought about that exterior color, but I am really wanting the red interior, but not sure about the blue/red Superman look ?
Ordered Melbourne Red with black interior. Car is fully loaded and I also added the M Performance Exhaust. Gonna tiny the windows nice and dark, put on some black carbon fiber exhaust tips, and swap the silver M240i badge in back for a blacked out one. I couldn’t stop thinking about how great the red/black combo looks, and this will be my first red vehicle. Car should be here end of October and I can’t wait!
You're welcome, glad you found the video useful! If you don't need the backseat space, and looks are about equal to you, I would go for the M240i! It's less expensive and a bit more engaging to drive. That's my own preference though. If you like a larger car that's geared more towards grand touring, the M440i may be a better choice.
I went from a 18 F32 440xi M sport to a 2022 G42 M240xi (which is the same exact car as the 2023 minus a few minor changes). If you don't need a back seat then go for the M240xi, it honestly looks better and stands out more than the M440. Now if you need back seats than the only thing the M240 can fit back there is a Smurf.
When I spec’d my ‘23 M240i, I was told that the illuminated M door trim was mandatory with the high gloss black trim but here it seems like that’s not the case? I was even shown the error code at the dealer while building out my car. What’s up with that? I prefer the non illuminated M door trim
I don't believe the gloss black trim forces the illuminated M trim. As you see here, this M240i has the black trim but not the illuminated M trim. Not sure why that was the case for you...
Informative review and I appreciate the details you covered. I think the ID8 looks really nice in comparison to the older iteration (it's a statement centerpiece IMO). And while I do have nostalgia for "buttons" to a certain degree, the modernization of the world will not stop for any of us. I'm figuring that if the various customizations you can make and whatever "macros" are available, were well thought out, then each user will be able to dial-in their setup nicely. I'm in CO and about 2 months into my order: Shadowline Melbourne over Cognac with nearly every option save for active CC, lumbar, and remote start (which I'm assuming I can always purchase later since it's mobile-phone operated). Super excited to get it, and again thanks for the well delivered content.
Glad you found the video useful! We agree, it looks quite nice in person. Definitely different, and decidedly modern, but very nice nonetheless. And you're correct, there's enough customization available to tailor the use of the screen to everyone's specific needs. Congrats on your order! Sounds like a very nice spec. We need more red BMW's in the world, they aren't ordered often enough. Enjoy yours!
Hi Ronnie... very well explained video on M240i 2023... I ordered one and am waiting on allocation. One question on idrive 8. is it possible to access the climate setting using the rotary knob? I have tried to search this issue and the feedback is that on idrive 8 only way to increase/decrease temp, or access climate menu is by touching the screen. I don't like leaving fingerprints on the screen. Do you have any comment on this?
Hello, and thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. Your research is correct, there are no rotary dials for temperature, and the function cannot be assigned to the one rotary knob in the center, which is for volume exclusively. Instead, there are two ways to control temperature: via the fixed buttons on the lower portion of the touch screen, and via voice command. The latter may be best for you to avoid those fingerprints. Hope this helps!
Good question. While in drive, simply click it all the way down, as if switching from park to drive. This will toggle between S and D. And while in S, clicking one of the paddles will activate manual mode.
Great video and car. I have a question regarding the side mirrors and front grill- Are they painted all black? I’ve seen other black ones and the side mirrors were grey and the front had grey as well. This car is all black which looks great. Thank you
Thank you, glad you enjoyed! They are painted black on this car, only because it is equipped with the Shadowline package. If you opt instead for the M Performance Trim, the side mirrors, grille and lower bumper vents will be painted in a silvery-bronze color.
@@bmwofmorristown9038 Thank you appreciate it. Again, I bought this car instead of the RS3 because of this video. Love the look and performance. , I did opt for the M Performance (S0212) however, I also got the Extended Shadowline Trim (S07M9 300.00$). So I think mirrors and front grill will be black. Now I have to wait and wait until March-April. Thank you again.
Fair question to which we don't have a concrete answer. If we had to make an educated guess, it's due to where the cars are produced. M240i is produced in an ID8 equipped facility, whereas 2 gran coupe is not.
Some say the black with shadow line is to black. I love it and ordered mine with the oyster leather and I'll tent the windows super dark. I will be the knight rider (when it finally comes in!)
I too ordered one about 10 days ago too. Completely black as well. I think it will be April before I get one. I got 1,350$ off MSRP plus 1,500$ for military discount as well.
Shifters on these modern cars aren’t real shifters anyway, they are just electric switches pretending to be a “shifter”. So what’s the point of having that knob sticking up if you know that on the inside of the console down there its the same exact thing as that rocker toggle shifter. Just an electronic switch.
It is the elephant in the room, but I'm warming up the shift switch! Bummer to lose the slap-shift option, but the tactile feedback of the shift switch is quite nice and it's very seamless to use.
I can't believe they got rid of the gear shifter. My lease is up on my 2021 M240 and I ONLY drive using the stick in manual mode - I've owned two 1 series and three 2 series. This is an absolute deal breaker for me. Made it an easy decision to buy out my 2021. Should have made this an option, BMW.
At that point, why not get an M2 with a true manual :) I do agree that the slack of a gear lever takes away some potential engagement with the "slap shift" option, but the paddle shifters are of course still there if you want manual control with the automatic.
My goodness, that new dash display on the 2023s looks horrific. I’m sorry I do not agree at all with this host’s take on the update. Sorry to be blunt. I guess the 2022 units (like my wife’s) will be the ‘unicorn’ going forward, since it still sports the more traditional enthusiast-driver’s instrument binnacle. New one looks like a stuck-on Computer monitor afterthought like on Teslas, and other appliance-mobiles. Anathema to the feeling of paying for bespoke design . Not befitting an enthusiast-oriented vehicle. I am happy to see that the ‘Zupra’ twins are still sticking with ID7, at least for the coming MY. Great cars; I’m giving ‘em some serious thought.
Totally fair, the car world would be awfully boring if everyone agreed with each other. I'll say the same thing that I say to everyone else that doesn't like the screen: give it a look in person before making a final judgement. I didn't like it either until I got a chance to see it in person and play with it. The Bupra is a fine car too, especially now that it is offered with three pedals. It has enough BMW in it for us to endorse it :)
That's definitely a valid opinion! Although we've found that most people, once acclimated to ID8, prefer it to the system that it replaces. Aesthetics, on the other hand, are purely subjective.
idrive 8 is a step backwards. guarantee in the next 2 years the bring some physical buttons back, or integrate the jumboscreen into the car WAY better, or both. no one is using voice control when you have to use such unnatural speech tendencies to make it work
I wouldn't hold your breath on buttons coming back but regarding the integration: we sort of already see this in the new XM that was just revealed. The screen has more dash surrounding it compared to how it is most current models. Not that the current integration looks bad at all, but a more natural integration would be a nice improvement!
@@bmwofmorristown9038 What integration? They took a perfect dash with a cohesive design and just set a giant screen with hard edges on top of the dash. Zero integration
@@rawevoli There are multiple dash pieces that are designed to frame the iDrive 8 screen, and it's inset nicely into the dash. In our opinion, it's a far cry from "just sticking a giant screen on the dash" as many people say it is. Nonetheless, everyone is entitled to their own opinion!
