Love In Flames!! I don't see too many people doing reactions to this band. They're latest few albums over the past like 10 years are much more main stream and easier on the ears for you guys. But I fell in love with the old stuff like Trigger.
for me, the mainstream light is too lucrative so i don't begrudge them their choice, but many of their support bands have overtaken them in terms of popularity i.e. Gojira. i don't min the mellow stuff, but now and aggression is ftw
Now this is the shit that all the old school fans hate, but I love it all... I'm not one of THOSE snobs, i'm a different kind of my music snob, not one of those stupid ones that can't stay with a band when they try different stuff... To me its all good, they will always be the same In Flames that got me through some rough younger years and bad shit, so they're all good in my book...
Stay with Me is my favorite song on I, The Mask right next to the title track. This album has some of the best song writing I’ve heard from these guys in a VERY long time. Thank you so much for reacting to this song!
Its like the person he's speaking to is dieing and his "stay with me" start positive, then sound begging, then its depression knowing the end is close and the begging is more intense when the electric guitar comes on... The last three screams of "stay with me" are basically how I felt when my nana died. Thrust straight into fuck it all, dont leave me. Happened like 15 years ago and I felt it all over again in this song. This song is Fuckin powerful shit
And that 2nd song had some elements of the older sound which was great, so see, they still havent forgotten their root sound, it always comes back here and there....lol... Thanx again for the great stuff!!!
I hated growls and screaming as well. I was introduced to it through Opeth. When I first heard them I thought what amazing musicians, why do they ruin it with that growling. The first Opeth album I dived into was Damnation, there are no growls on the Damnation album, and the music just blew me away. Damnation was so amazing I just had to keep looking into their catalog. At first the growls were really tough to get past but Kel has hit on an exact point. It is another instrument, a part of the music. Eventually I began to love all of their music. They do a really good job of blending aggressive emotions with beautiful emotions all in one song.
Yay! I'm glad you guys got my request! It is a bit too heavy for most of the people I recommend it to but I'm so glad that you guys got a chance to listen to them anyways! I do have another request that I submitted so hopefully that one isn't too heavy. Thanks guys! :)
Would have picked Jotun from Whoracle, Artifacts Of The Black Rain from Jester Race or Stand Ablaze from Subterranean for a start. Still, Jester Script Transfigured is one of my all-time favorites from them.
I feel when it comes to Melodic Death Metal, people that struggle with screaming are looking for the musical relief in the vocals, when usually the musical relief is in the guitars. If you don't have the lyrics, focus on the tone of the screaming and treat it like an instrument. The relief from the dissonance will come from the melodic guitar.
If you want to hear a catchy album by both of the In Flames guitarists (Jesper & Bjorn) go listen to the All Ends self-titled album. Two female singers on it, one of which is Bjorn Gelotte's sister. I'm pretty sure Jesper & Bjorn wrote the music and played the guitars on the album, but aren't listed nor are they in the (5?) official videos for that album. I think the guys in the videos and listed in the album credits were hired afterwards.
WOW!!!... Really great stuff tonight!!!... Love you guys again!!! Well as always, but i give you shit for stuff i dont like, but then you great stuff and love it so its always all good... And i LOVED how you refer to me as Mister B.!!!!!... I sound like a Bond villain!!!!...LOL... Friggin awesome!!!! Love you again!!!!
I know this is an old video but you guys should definitely check out come clarity by inflames it's my favourite song period 😅 helped me through a lot of stuff that song and my guitar
Calling it a growl is more accurate than calling it a scream. Calling it "vocal fry" is spot on. Screaming requires little training and is incredibly hard on your vocal chords, training for that vocal fry takes time and effort and care and is not as hard on your vocal chords as people tend to think. Whether one likes the sound is a matter of opinion and not everyone does. I love that you guys are still occasionally willing to give the music a shot and are honest about whether or not you like it. Yet another wonderful reaction to a pioneer band!
God damned how I adore "In Flames"😱 Thank you guys, I was enjoying with you these songs again, especially "Trigger"!)) Hope you will check their songs more 'cause In Flames staging from 90's till now & there are a lot of bangers they've made! This is a good idea to listen one song mellow and another heavy, so in this case I just must to leave my recommendation for the next try: 1. Only For The Week. 2. Come Clarity. Thank you Kel and Rich one more time😃🙌
Just so you guys know this song is about friend of his that tried to commit suicide. These lyrics are deeply sad. This song really gets you in feels when you understand what "Stay with me" means.
On Spotify their 3 most played songs are Only For The Weak, Cloud Connected and Alias. I would recommend Take This Life as well though, it's not even top 10 on their Spotify
Sent you a request through your website. Harsher vocals. I'll do another but a different song, the one I sent has theatrics to it, and there isn't one with lyrics with the theatrics. So a new song incoming to meet the criteria. \m/
In Flames has a debate around them similar to the Nightwish singer one! Old In Flames (because they have been going for decades) were pioneers in the death metal scene 20+ years ago...some of the songs are unbelievable heavy. But they reinvented themselves over the years, to a much lighter version of Metal. The latest album I,The Mask is the heaviest one they have done for quite a few years... but if you are around their music doing a few reviews, you will see huge amounts of "new In Flames sucks" comments, with a mix of newer fans that like their newer music. They are completely different sound to the band that was churning music out 20 odd years ago, all the band members have gone from the original line up. Personal favourites, one from each era... look for Episode 666 from 1997 here ua-cam.com/video/I9aV5coHZnA/v-deo.html and A New Dawn from 2011 here ua-cam.com/video/22lxMryxhGQ/v-deo.html which has an absolutely beautiful middle section, kinda like master of puppetts. Rich, you were talking about Metallica's journey from thrash to more commercial then back to heavier stuff the other day... In flames have really followed the same course over the past 2-3 decades. For Metallica's lou reed album, In Flames managed to do a small cover album including depeche mode covers that really sent the fans screeching and running for cover. Keep going guys...long time watcher, since you started. Don't check every video out, but i see you guys a few times a week, you are doing a great job on this journey.
I love seeing you really feel the music and watching you get lost in the melody, the lyrics are powerful even though they are a bit repetitive I think that’s where the power comes from. Begging and pleading for the person to stay, either in a relationship, or stay in life but sometimes people leave it’s not always by choice, but reason aside it’s never any less painful when someone leaves your life.
Hey guys why don't you have a Kel & Rich rating system like rate each song out of 5K&R,s then we could get a sense of how much you like a song from 1 to 5 I think this will add to your channel.🎧👍
We hear you and discussed this a few weeks ago. We are way too pragmatic for a fair rating system that would mean anything. We are heavily weighted on just having the opportunity to listen to the music of others and on top of that, music that other people think are at least a 9.5/10 or they wouldn't stand by it and request us to listen to, IMHO. We understand that others rate songs and that's great. It's just not something we want to engage in. Does that make seem reasonable to you David? Thanks again. You are terrific. Big love from Florida. Rich
Fair enough it doesn't have to have any meaning it would be just cool to see what your personal rating would be,but its cool that you guys prefer not to rate.☺
Hi guys you should check also Lethean Tears by Solution .45 , i see you like ballads and strong vocalist lines , on the vocals is one of my favorite of Death metal genre , Christian Alvestam. They come from Sweden , his other band in past was Scar Symmetry also similar to In flames or Soilwork. Been a large fan of In Flames, or well, still am of their earlier stuff, but after Sounds of a Playground Fading I just stopped feeling much interest. But gotta say I love most songs Anders Fridén sings with clean vocals. That said, they're from home as well as being one of the big 3 of Gothenburg metal and classic In Flames guitar harmonies are just so f-ing good.
No offense intended...Stay With Me isnt an In Flames song imo. If i wanted an In Flames session and this came on, skip would be immediate. They have melodic moments but this is too much.
I literally cannot listen to this song without bawling my eyes out. In Flames we trust!!!! ♡♡♡

Suprised you didn't choose Come Clarity for a lighter sound, always loved that song
Ooooo that's such a good one! The lighter stuff like you suggested and "The Chosen Pessimist" are so beautiful!
Come Clarity is fucking amazing
Take this life its my favorite from them
Loved this. Thank you :)
Another new one for me I like it👍🐢 thanks
