      A few people are saying the same things, different ways. A younger person can "get away with" wearing colors outside their palette because their complexion doesn't have the complications of being older (ask me how I know). More peaks and valleys, if you will. A young pair of eyes will still sparkle even in the "wrong" shades, but older women really need the boost that the right palette will give. You are your mom are both beautiful. Also if you really love some of those forbidden colors, you can get away with some if they're not super close to your face. Oh, and the same with jewelry, it's ok to wear your "non" color as a ring, but I'd say if you're investing in a special pair of earrings, make those silver. The stylist did a great job!

  • @riverotters
    @riverotters 5 місяців тому +1972

    You have to remember that colour analysis is based on the undertone of your natural skin. This comparison would have been more accurate had you not worn foundation. By applying the "wrong" foundation, you essentially gave yourself a warm palette so that everything else paired with it that was warm went well with it, except for your hands. Your eyes and hair are pretty neutral, so they look fine with both looks. Your best colours will make you look better without foundation. They'll give you more definition and contrast naturally. They'll bring out your features subtly by themselves. Had you worn no foundation or worn the cool foundation with the warm look, it most certainly would have noticeably washed you out compared with the cool look. I think most women can pull off a different palette if they tint their foundation a bit. Your point still stands, though, that no colour is off limits if you like it, even if it isn't exactly doing anything for you.

      She doesn’t have any really problem or noticeable things with her face or skin. If someone naturally has dark circles under their eyes or rosacea or some asymmetry or a large/tiny nose, etc. it is a lot more noticeable when they are in the wrong color palette. I personally look positively jaundiced in warm colors, which are my favorites, of course. 😂

      I think the undertone of your skin still will shine out from under the foundation? But it does say when getting a color analysis, to not wear foundation.

    • @drummerlovesbookworm9738
      @drummerlovesbookworm9738 5 місяців тому +31

      @@cyndeewenzel6439 I absolutely concur that the wrong color foundation will skew analysis. The truth is if you wear the wrong shade of makeup, you just look less ‘right.’ For example, as a Summer, if I wear the peachy tone foundation the ubiquitous uninitiated makeup sales clerk invariably recommends - because I’m ‘fair’ - I look jaundiced. The warm color doesn’t match my skin or enhance my features. And I can rub all the ‘warm’ makeup in the world on my face, but if I wear the earth tones I love so much, I look yellow and sickly.
      I will admit there is a spectrum. Some people are closer to ‘neutral’ than others. I’m really, really cool-toned so there is not much forgiveness. Some folks seem to be able to fudge their palette more successfully.

    I think the reason Mia looked so much better in her “wrong” colors is because she has experience with them. The “right” colors became such a weird outfit that didn’t really go together. If she went shopping and found pretty and simple pieces in her right colors like her outfit in her wrong colors it would look much better

    • @MadiJunkie
      @MadiJunkie 6 місяців тому +617

      I think so too! The outfit with the "right" colors looked like it has been jumbled together, that's why the outfit looks a little weird. The outfit with the "wrong" colors on the other hand was perfectly coordinated in color and style, that's why it looked better overall. But you can see that the "right" colors made her face pop more anyway...

    • @meinkanta
      @meinkanta 6 місяців тому +394

      It also made no sense in my opinion to cover her skin with a warm toned foundation. When skin is the primary focus of colour analysis and making the skin tone look even and radiant, it makes most sense when comparing the effects of your colours to not wear any foundation. I bet if we could see her actual skin for the “wrong colours” outfit it wouldn’t be flattering to it!
      The thing about experience shows in the makeup for me too as well as the outfit - no one is saying that a cool palette means you’re going to look good in green eyeshadow with fuchsia lipstick 😂 She could have used cool toned browns, greys, pinks and stayed within her comfort zone of more natural, neutral makeup for a better comparison

    I think the "bad" colours didn't look so bad because you used the "wrong" make up with them. By doing this, you warmed up your skin tone and made everything coherent. It shows how people can get away with different colours when they change their make up to match.
    It is so true that your best colours make your features pop more and I think that's what colour analysis is for.

      I thought the same thing. I bet she would see a bigger difference in the looks if she used the cool tone foundation that matched her skin perfectly and tried to wear warm color outfits. Since the warm tone foundation had a golden or neutral undertone, warm colors in her outfit will work with it and look natural. That said, I think the cool palette suited Mia the best.

    The right colours definitely make you pop more, they compliment your skin tone nicely where the 'wrong' colours tend to wash you out. However, from what i know about using colour analysis, you can actually wear any kind of bottoms you want, even the 'wrong' colour, as long as you have your complimentary colours closer to your face, it still works. So a tip to try out :)

    • @mellie5899
      @mellie5899 23 дні тому

      When you're first shopping for all your right colors you might have to wear wrong colors on the bottom, but when people look at you they see all of you and it definitely looks better to be in your right colors from head to foot. It just takes time to get there and that's why they say at first it's ok if you need to wear wrong colors on the bottom half.

    • @ThousandsThoughts-si4mt

      Bad colors makes her look older and matured. Good colors make her attractive, pop and lively.
      Bad color takes attention away from face to below the neck to bottom of her clothes. Good colors brings attention to her face, not body.
      Also she used warm foundation, making all those wrong warm colors suiting her coz of warm foundation. So if people want to wear colors they can't wear, a simple foundation change from cool to warm can also do the trick and make that look bearable

    I had my colors done when I was about 16, now I'm 60. It helped me avoid buying all the wrong colors and wasting tons of money for all these years. I still have my color palette booklet too in my trinket box but don't need to check it when I shop, I know what colors to buy. I have natural red hair still with very few grey hairs coming in, light skin with alot of red undertones and blue eyes so I never buy anything pink, purple, grey or white ever! Those colors are horrible on me. My best colors are peach, midnight blue and greens and browns, all earth tones that mix and match easily with each other. I'm glad I had my colors done so young because it gave me the confidence to choose my clothes wisely and I always felt good in knowing that what I was wearing worked for me. I agree. But also, if you're continually wondering why your face looks so red, or your dark circles so prominent, or why everyone asks you if you're feeling okay... it might just have something to do with the colors you're wearing, particularly up near your face. I've never met anyone who couldn't pull off any neutral on their bottom half, but as soon as a color is right up by your face, it really starts impacting how people perceive you & how you perceive yourself. I absolutely adore most colors... but they all don't love me back equally. If I'm going to wear an orange, it needs to be a bright, clear orange. If I'm going to wear a yellow, it needs to be a crisp, sunshine yellow. If I go pastel or muted, I either look muddy or washed out... now, yellow and orange aren't my best colors, far from it... but they're the best versions of those colors for me. Purples, bright blues, all the pinks, blue based reds, blue leaning greens, and coral all look fabulous on me though. It's not surprising my wardrobe is filled with them. I feel good in them because I look good in them. Thankfully, I survived the obsession with warm tones intact because warm browns & terracottas make me look like gray mud.

      @@inotherwords14 I think colour consulting is just meant to tell what looks “harmonic”. But most times people don’t want to look “harmonic”. They want to look confident, strong, responsible, happy, or some other way, that requires more contrast, more colour and so on.
      Some people are insecure about red cheeks so they would never wear something that “makes them look more lively” and so on.

      It's becoz she wore warm foundation as base. Giving false impression she is warm toned Making all warm color eyeshadow, lipstick look good on warm tone. She shud have used her own cool skin or cool tone foundation as base. On her cool skin tone, all these warm colors wud look terrible and make her washed out. Also the warm dress looks good, but it washes her face out, and make her look matured. Her face looked ordinary and pale. All attention went to her warm dress, aka down the neck, not her face. She didn't stand out. While in cool dress all attention went to her face, not dress, it made her face and eyes pop, sparkle and lovely. Made her look attractive and young.
      It also means u can neutralise cool skin effect, using warm foundation as base, warm make up, to wear your favourite off color cloths that doesn't suit u

    I have a important tip: you CAN use colors that are not on you pallette if you combine them with colors that complements your skin. Example: you can wear orange if you combine it with more cool toned colors on your clothes, make up and accessories. If you use a color that is not on you pallette, make it far from your face, like a strapless top for example and then use silver acessories and cool make up.

Scarfs in your best colors can help a lot, or layering so that the top layer/closest layer to your skin is a color that makes you look good.

    I don’t think the planets make up 80% of the cardigan as summer colors though. The base color is definitely too dark for her season. I also think in general adding too many colors in an outfit will be overpowering regardless. Would love to see Mia try a simpler outfit in cool summer colors though!
    Also, I think people that think the “good” colors look worse on her should keep in mind that Mia just learned that those colors are great for her. She doesn’t wear those colors to begin with so there will be an experimental phase where she figures out how to incorporate her season correctly.
    I also think Julia gave the foundation advice as a way to easily find a match to your skin tone, because you wouldn’t want to wear warm foundation when you are cool, it would mismatch the rest of your skin (unless you color your whole body with warm foundation). Try the outfits again but without makeup, that way there is a control in the comparison.

    The right colours combo is actually all wrong for a cool summer. The cardy is black. With some spots of cool tones. The burgundy in the pants is a pretty bad colour for a cool summer. Finally there was zero cohesion in the outfit as a whole…all the colours clashed horribly. The wrong colours do look great. There is cohesion in Mia’s hair colour and as she said there’s the same tone throughout. There’s a summer type that can switch over to an autumn due to where they sit so close on the colour wheel, not an expert so I forget which, and from looking at this real world example of the outfits as opposed to the swatches I’d say Mia is someone who can switch to an autumn. Autumns can wear all of those oranges and browns and yellows. And Mia clearly intuitively knows this because she’s worked out for herself what suits her. She did look very cohesive and lovely in her wrong colour outfit.

That's why you have bronzer (warmer) and countor (cooler), for example. of course: there's never going to be orange in her pallete, but she can play with colours and equal all the cool and warm things near her face mostly, the rest is fine @@cyan_the_uranian

      It's becoz she wore warm foundation as base. Giving false impression she is warm tones. Making all warm color eyeshadow, lipstick look good on warm tone. She shud have used her own skin or cool tone foundation as base. On her cool skin tone, all these warm colors wud look terrible and make her washed out. Also the warm dress looks good, but it washes her face out. All attention went to her dress,aka down the neck, not her face. She didn't stand out. While in cool dress all attention went to her face, not dress, it made her face and eyes pop, sparkle and lovely

    I remember Mia says all the time that she doesn't like attracting attention through flashy outfits (the video with the crazy shoes and another with a eye-catching dress) -- so I wonder if Mia was subconsciously attracted to all the 'unflattering' colors (warm) that made her blend in more? Because like a lot have people have been saying, the 'cool' colors definitely makes Mia's features pop more.

    I'm glad that Mia mentioned this. I think a lot of colour analysis videos focus too much on what colour makes you look your "best". Fashion isn't always about looking your best but also enjoying what you wear regardless of colour (even if they do not happen to fall in your palette). And in any case you look your best when you are happy and comfortable in your clothes, whatever colour they may be!

      yes! i’m sure color analysis helps a lot of people find what makes them feel most confident but if you have something already that makes you feel good, go with it! i have very pale, very pink skin but i love pale pink so i wear it. i’m sure it’s not at all “my color.” but it makes me happy!

      I very much did not like how she had Mia convinced that her favorite colors made her look ugly somehow. Sure, maybe some "cool summer" colors look extra nice on her, but she still looked great with the "bad" colors.

    you know it’s pretty nuanced but i think the difference isn’t necessarily which colors look best on you; i think it’s more “which colors put the focus on you”. yes the “worse” color outfits look gorgeous because they’re all a similar tone, and you have outfits you’ve already put together from those colors; but in those outfits, you’re exchangeable, you’re not the subject-the outfit is. which makes sense for anyone curating a cute outfit, of course it’ll stand out! but on the “good” color side, even with those wild colors, the FIRST thing i saw was your face. it was like i could picture you irl, whereas the “worse” side looked like a catalogue or pinterest image; your face almost blurred mentally. it comes down to whatever you feel most comfortable in at the end of the day, and that might be a part of it too; depending on how much you as a person want to be noticed may impact what you wear. for example i would wear worse colors to work so i blend in/am comfortable, and good colors on a date with my husband or an important event!

    This was so much fun to watch! I watched another color analysis expert who said the most important thing was to wear your complimentary colors by your face. You can wear other colors that you like as pants or skirts and even for accessories like belts and bags. She said if you love a black top but that's not your best color, you could add a scarf in a complementary color. It makes sense to me since color analysis is always done against the face.

Like you could still wear a black bag or black shoes or black pants and so on. Maybe that can help that you can still wear the colours you wore and liked before and not getting rid of clothes you like

The planet sweater is so fun, but I don’t think it’s the best example of a cool summer look because it’s such high contrast. Would love to see a comparison with a lower contrast outfit (more solid colors, less distance in color between different pieces). Thanks!

    Style-wise, you look fabulous in your "wrong colors" outfit at the end. Everything is harmonized, the pattern on the leopard print bag ties all the colors of your outfit together, the outfit is balanced and looks great. Even the "wrong" makeup looks good because you applied it so skillfully. Because all the colors are warm-toned (aside from neutral black), they harmonize together. If you had a cool color in there, it would be jarring.
    Bottom line: You can still wear your "wrong colors" if you love them, as long as the outfit is flattering and you stick to a color palette that works together.
