Understanding the scope of destruction that occurred during the Heresy is challenging. It's hard to grasp that not only did the Traitors destroy knowledge in their rampage, but the Loyalists also purged knowledge so that it wasn't captured. Add to this the knowledge lost or locked away following the Cybernetic Revolt/Age of Strife and the passage of 10,000 years and it becomes more understandable that in M42 humanity can have interstellar travel and still records information on paper.

I know they have to piece 40 years of lore together in a cohesive way, but the Emperor utterly failed a Magnus. He should have explained the truth of the universe to him and keep him close at all times.
Well, he kinda did. He told him some, and gave him a warning not to fool with it. He was trying to slow Magnus down until his work with the Throne was finished. His goal, what he made Magnus to do, was for Magnus to sit on the Throne. It was going to be set up so while Magnus powered the Astronomicon, he would also be able to send his consciousness out through all time and space. He would have forever been able to pursue his quest for knowledge. Part of the catastrophe that happened when Magnus smashed through the palace wards was that the Throne was damaged. Big E was going to fix it when he was able to spare the time from holding back the demon flood. He wanted Magnus brought to him to give him another chance to take the Throne, but we know how that went...
Not entirely true if you read the HH book Thousand Sons then you’d realize that Magnus quest for knowledge and believing himself more knowledgeable than the Emperor was what caused him to act so irrationally. Plus (not trying to spoil too much) he made a pact with a Chaos God that damned his legion from the start. The situation was more complex than what’s explained in this video, the Emperor could have made a few better choices but at the end of the day Magnus fucked up a lot more than you think!

Either the Emperor should have sat them down before the battle and explained everything, or he should of had no sons and just made a hundred legions of grey knights.
My only nitpick would be that you undersold the Traitors planning and cunning when you described the attack on Calth, the Word Bearers weren't just coincidentally there. Horus combined the Ultramarines and them to conquer an Ork infestation(that was probably made up) just to place the two legions there for the Fleet Muster. It's why the orbital weapons were not functioning (they had to be turned to automatic after demonic scrap code infected the system that was keeping it from firing on the massive amount of ships in orbit). It allowed the word bearers to be face to face for their betrayal.
Tying up the Dark Angels with the thramus Crusade, The Ultra Marines at Calth and finally The Space Wolves at Prospero showed the genius of Horus in the fact he sent the most dangerous and fervently loyal Legions away before he turned openly
@@brooklynkeith2877 I think it's telling that all of his best plans were laid before he went on his thousand year walk about and I can't remember what book it's from but I enjoyed seeing Lorgar talk about their "purge" being the zealots that went on the suicide mission to Catch. After the defeat of Horus, most of the Emperor's soul is said to have dispersed from his body, merging into the warp in much the same way as that of the shamans, so many millennia before. It is believed that the Emperor - while apparently designed and empowered by the shamans to live forever - also possesses their ability to reincarnate, and that this would be his eventual goal. Avoiding discovery by the Chaos powers, it is believed that the Emperor was able to plant the seed of his reincarnation, a potential new soul awaiting birth: The Star Child. This was a GOD TIER video. Could you do a video like this for each of the Horus Heresy books? Like a 45min summary of each book? That would be amazing.
The Emperor's project was not to open an access to the Eldar Web Way. It was to create a Human Web Way. First connecting all Human worlds together, then to expand it so all of Humanity could fit inside it. This would have protected all humans from Chaos, the Warp, Necrons, tyrannids, all of it.
I thought the interex were a human/xeno empire but primarily human. SOH landed on some arachnid like planet to help some Emperors Children but it turned out that the interex quarantined off after the planet to cut them from expanding to any systems rather than extinction. Horus was actually trying to take the imperium in a whole new direction with trying to start an alliance with the interex. When Erebus stole the blade the Interex blamed the legion while Horus had no clue what they were talking about but was accused of being sided with chaos. Negotiations broke down and led to a drawn out bloody war with the Interex’s destruction.
Magnus is tragic. He did the wrong thing for the absolute right reasons, yet suffered greatly for it. For all of Biggie’s supposed intelligence and wisdom he brought virtually all of the Heresy upon himself. Just explaining the Webway in small, uncertain terms that wouldn’t have given it away but helped the Primarchs realize that he had a good reason for going back to Terra would have solved a lot of the problems to come. Treating his “sons” a little better would have helped as well. Angron was beyond help and he should have just killed him and broke up his legion since there was no way to remove the Butcher Nails, but the rest probably would have remained loyal had he been a better “father”.
- Those bad boys really broke the big E's heart.
