I'm such a science nerd...I cried tears of joy watching this! Judge me if you want, I don't care. It's awesome and amazing! Our solar system is awe inspiring for sure! Can't wait till I see this in 2 more days on August 21, 2017 on my side of the world (USA)!! 🌅
Spectacular video and fantastic capture of the diamond ring. Really the best video of it I think I've seen yet. I was fortunate enough to be in the path of totality for 2017 with a crystal clear sky. People were screaming out loud oh my God oh my God it was just so beautiful and so unbelievably emotional and spiritual to see such a thing. Can't wait for the next one in 2024
Brian Spruill I called the hotel where I'll be staying and they found my reservation with no issues. I do plan to call again to check the day before I leave though.
"LOOK AT THE EXTENSION! 30 SECONDS! LOOK AT THE SHADOW! HALFWAY THROUGH! DIAMOND RING!" There's always gotta be that ONE GUY that has to announce it to the whole world. Just showing off he thinks, that he's the astronomy expert! CHROMOSPHERE!!! 🤣🤣🤣
It lasts a little longer at the equator because we're spinning in the same direction of travel as the shadow of the moon. But the bigger effect is how close the moon is and how far away we are from the sun. Both the moon's orbit and earth's orbit are ellipses and not circles.
*4th Reich* || During the total solar eclipse over the United States on August 12, 2045, totality will last up to six minutes. It's all based on how far the moon is from the Earth at the time of the eclipse.
This is about as long as it will last in seven years. I'm planning to go to Texas to watch the next one there on April 8, 2024 for the 4 minute 25 second totality.
Yep me too heading to central Arkansas for it it'll be almost 4 and a half minutes, the one in August was spectacular but not long enough for me at 2 minutes and 40 seconds.
It looks like the man and woman in the forefront are not viewing the eclipse safely. During the partial phase, it looks as if the woman is looking at it with her naked eyes, only occasionally holding up her glasses. (Of course, once the sun is completely covered it is safe to look without glasses. ) I understand that eye damage from looking a partial eclipse without protection may not become apparent for several days.
They were probably looking at clouds which were close by. Prior to totality, we were concerned that clouds would interfere with the view. At the end of totality you can see how close the clouds were. In general a brief glance at the sun will dazzle you but not blind you. That's still not advisable before an eclipse because you'll be dazzled and not see totality well. The danger is that in the excitement of an eclipse, you might be lulled into gazing at the un-eclipsed sun long enough to cause damage.
It's where the gas density changes so that it becomes transparent to light. Lower down, at higher densities, photons are absorbed and re-radiated. This is also a reason why photons generated at the core take a very long time to reach the edge of the photosphere. Probably the photosphere "edge" is not so well defined as it looks from our perspective.
I live in Anderson County SC .. about 1.5 miles from direct center I will have Totality at 2:37:38 for 2 minutes and 32 seconds . I am renting out rooms for ... Free !!! ..2 spare bedrooms , open sky , and a 300 sq ft deck .. I heard my county will double in size that day and I have heard on the local news that people around me are charging a 1000 bucks just to camp on their property .. Bring all the tents you want .. I am limited to 3/4 an acre . ..
Park in the driveway , in the yard , doesn't matter to me .. LOL .. 19 hours to go and according to The National Weather .. Clear skies .. Absolutely free parking !! .. but it is BYOB though
IVORY123100 Just read the Family Vision of South Carolina has recalled all their eclipse glasses, now they are considered unsafe for the eyes😩. I hope you didn't get your eclipse eye ware from them. 🙀Also, not to be a downer, but there is a 30% chance of cloud cover where you live. 😡 But if you film the eclipse, you should put it on UA-cam
Funny you say that .. I went to a local convenience store and raised hell .. I bought a pair last week and the news around here is telling everyone .. if is is not ISO 12321-1 rated .. don;t use .. So I told the seller that he sold me bum goods and wanted to argue .. I just happened a few moment ago to look what it read ... ": Disclaimer : The seller of these glasses shall not be liable for any damages arising from the use , non use or misuse of the eclipse glasses " .. MADE IN CHINA .. .. This is a local store I am familiar with and I asked before " Why do you continually raise prices ?" because you think you have a cornered market ? .. I drive 4 miles more and save on average 4 dollars a day going elsewhere .. When a seller doesn't care .. I retract my business .. He argued with me .. and I told him " Why don;t you go out tomorrow and watch through them !!" .. .. Yes you are right ... there is increased chance of cloud cover like today .. on other models they show clear .. not perfectly clear ... You know ... The saddest part of it all ... Is the hucksters and con artist that emerge .. Perhaps part of the darkening of the sun is actually revealing those that have a dark heart for profit at everyone else's expense ... I hope to see the grandeur of God and contemplate the smallness of myself .. Whether it is clear or not .. I will still see the darkening .. and that is sufficient enough .. If I have clear skies .. I would love to video it and share .. But I am not computer savvy and I don;t own an I-Phone with a camera ... If I could I would Peace
What is not shown in the video is how close we came to not seeing the eclipse. That morning, when we woke up it was raining cats and dogs. I was pretty sure it was going to be a bust. But miraculously the clouds cleared long enough to see the entire totality without cloud interference.
DerHammerSpricht 🤣🤣Trump : "I know all the best eclipses okay. I've known them all, folks, nobody knows better eclipses than Donald Trump, okay. Excuse me, did you see the eclipse on my golf course, okay."
Ken || I agree. It was a time for the extremists and supremacists of both sides to remain silent in unity. For the first time in years, I felt like Americans were unified for a single day. It's sad that we cannot put our differences aside and see ourselves as a single nation more often…
Me who was born same month and year as a Solar eclipse:🙂. also saw the 2015 Sept lunar eclipse:😀 Was 1st to Notice this the eclipse of 2017 Aug:😃 Is going to Experience A solar eclipse in 2024:😎

Got my room booked in SC. Coming up from south FL.
DBJr1980 I'm in sc... Glad to have you
Thank you. Looking forward to it.
I'm driving 8 hours to SC and rented a 400mm lens as well as a 2x extender for it. I'm so excited. This is my first solar eclipse.
Got mine in Klamath Falls Oregon. What's the chance our reservations get canceled for unknown reasons? The reasons are quite simple, GREED.
Brian Spruill I called the hotel where I'll be staying and they found my reservation with no issues. I do plan to call again to check the day before I leave though.
was the guy on speaker Trump???
Casper Wyoming 2017. Heading up from New Mexico to see it.
Marcos Martinez we were gonna head out to Casper! But now due to idek what, we have to veiw it in Reno ;(
I love astronomy, was stoked to find the August eclipse totality path goes right over my city. No driving necessary!
I'm envious! I haven't even started my 2000 mile drive.

So incredibly cool
wow! 4 minutes of totality.....best we could do for this year will be 2+ minutes here in Kansas....
aznsketcher longest eclipses reaching 7 mins, it all depends on distance to the earth, 2024 eclispse in US will have 4 mins 20 sec
Theres can be total eclipses with 7 and half minets of totality
I need to know the exact time. Please
Saw something similar in Boonville, Mo on Monday.
it gets as bright during the day at Pluto as it gets dark on Earth during a total solar eclipse
geometric art no i think it gets as bright as a full moon would shine as it would in pluto i dont know
Nah. More like a deep twilight.
I'm right in Columbia MO and off for the day! Ready for the 21st!
N PORTELL don't look at the sun
There's gonna be another one on Easter Island in an hour or so, but it'll be a "ring of fire" eclipse. Hopefully it isn't too cloudy
I guess totality last longer being near the equator like that? As compared to north America's 2017 solar eclipse..

Easter Island is in the south pacific about as far north as the southern tip of Baja peninsula.
Thanks for the replies fellows.
Another one in South America on Tuesday ( July 2nd )!

every night similar thing happens for 8 to 11 hours where it gets dark and i don't see the sun...
that's the terrestrial eclipse
the Sun is made of gas, so why is the limit of the photosphere so well delimited?
It's where the gas density changes so that it becomes transparent to light. Lower down, at higher densities, photons are absorbed and re-radiated. This is also a reason why photons generated at the core take a very long time to reach the edge of the photosphere. How come all the people that are not religious, describe an eclipse as something spiritual? 2nd grade science explains how it happens, no big deal.
I think they are referencing a personal experience, rather than assuming anything supernatural. It's just an expression.
Have you ever actually seen totality in person?
Religion and spirituality do not mean the same thing. You can be religious your entire life and never feel spiritual a single time. I think they just feel it in their soul. It is an amazing thing to see.
