I'm travelling from Scotland along with a friend from the Isle of Man to see this event . It's very fortunate i have good friends who stay in Salado , Texas and we will be spending our time with them there . We'll be so glad if we get another thing ticked off our bucket lists .
I've traveled the world to view total solar eclipses and have now seen ten from five different continents. The last one my wife and I viewed was in Argentina.....my 10th and my 2nd wife's 4th. While there, we met a man who was witnessing his 22nd....and had a custom jacket designed with them ALL listed....and, was already planning his next one. @@AlbiPhotography Facts were I was so blown over by my first one that, in reality, I became hooked. Many refer to a total solar eclipse as "Nature's Blockbuster"....and, rightly so. Odd thing is, they start out so sedately with the moon taking a little nip out of the sun. The eclipse gradually progresses, but in that final 10%, things begin to speed up with so many things happening at once. On my first one in 1979, birds started flying overhead in circles...screaming. Off in the distance I could hear a bull bellowing in terror...these animals somehow sensed something wasn't normal, reacted to it, which all adds towards the drama building to a climax. Then, totality, where just before was a part of sun showing, is now the inkiest black you've ever seen, which of course, it the unlit side of the moon. All too soon it is over. Odd thing I've noticed.....on the pre-eclipse phase, everyone often checks the progress, but after totality, the climax has occured and hardly anyone pays any attention to the process as things begin to return to normal. Bad weather moved in and we paid extra $200 each to be bussed to an alternate location. Unfortunately, total overcast there too and we weren't able to see it.....sure got dark though. It wasn't until a couple of years later, we went to her native AU and saw a fabulous one there. Then, three years ago, we witnessed yet another one from a clear blue sky in Argentina. I have now seen ten, while my 2nd wife has been to four, but seen only three of them. BHE

April 8, 2024. I was at the 2017 one and it is the greatest show on earth. If the earth is causing the shadow, explain to me how I regularly see well above the horizon both the sun and a crescent 🌙 moon, if the entire ball is beneath my feet. Please explain.

For three years in my youth, my folks lived in Laurelwood, OR.....primarily a Seventh Day Adventist community and was the only time my semi-religious parents didn't attend some kind of scrapolistic church, dragging we five children by the ears along with them. My favorite SIL, who took my side when I divorced her sister almost 20 years ago, is a Jehovah's Witless. I've attended a conference with her at the San Francisco Cow Palace. I've been involved with approximately 20 different religions, going all the way back to Father Devine's Church in the late 50's......again, take your pick. In my 'other' life, I'm an astronomer.....our galaxy, The Milky Way, contains an estimated 400 billion stars. The Hubble 'Deep Field' photos of the late 90's allowed us to estimate there are two trillion galaxies....each containing billions or hundreds of billions of stars. So, do you ACTUALLY believe we are the ONLY intelligent life within all of this VAST real estate? I've had four UFO sightings within my life, going all the way back to the late 60's, when I witnessed a classic 'flying saucer' fly low and slow directly over my house less than 100' directly above me....never made a whisper....and, wasn't made on this earth. It was as big as my house....and, I could easily have 'pinged' it with a slingshot. Odd thing is....close my eyes all of these years later and still see it. It is a vision 'locked' in my mind which simply will NOT go away. As a result, I've attended the McMenamins UFO convention in McMinniville, OR, three times within the last six years, even though for me it is a 1600 mile drive round trip. Last time, my wife attended with me. Most of the attendees have had similar experiences and just want some inkling of what is really going on. My wife's heart doctor is a huge UFO fan. On a wall in one of his consultation rooms hangs a photo of a guy standing next to an SR 71 Blackbird, which his buddy flew while in the Air Force. He loves to chat about how his buddy once had an interactive experience with a classic 'flying saucer' which, while on a routine flight, pulled alongside, toyed with them a bit, and then flew straight upward at a tremendous speed and out of sight. Our government knows fully well of what is going on, but has withheld full UFO disclosure for decades out of fear of upsetting the tender, but incredibly ignorant religious, but cannot be contained forever, SO....if you fall within that group, you just might want to brace yourself for an extra large dose of REAL truth....for, it IS coming. So, tell me again......Just WHO is in for the RUDE AWAKENING?? BHE
NEVER look at the sun without some eye protection....doing so can cause permanant eye damage which may not be immediately evident, but will become so down the road. However, when the moon is TOTALLY ECLIPSED, it is OK and desirable to look at it with the naked eye...just be sure to look away when it becomes apparent the eclipse is ending. BHE
The damage to your eyes is often not readily apparent immediately, but can show up decades later.....and, can be serious. NEVER look directly at the sun....I wouldn't display my ignorance by bragging about it. However, when the sun is FULLY eclipsed, it is safe to view it with just your eyes, is a magnificant sight and is desirable to do so....but, just as soon as it begins to brighten, the eclipse is over and turn your eyes away. Living your life with permanant eye damage isn't a pleasant thing to envision. Just FYI, I've traveled the world 'chasing total solar eclipses' and saw my last one four years ago from Argentina.......my 10th and my 2nd wife's 4th. Not a record by any means, as while we were there, met a fellow who was viewing his 22nd, and was already planning his next one. BHE

Drove down downstate to Makanda, Illinois from Chicagoland in 2017 to see it. It was spectacular and surreal. It’s the closest thing to being in outer space . The stars and planets were revealed, NASA jets flying above. I’ve planned my second viewing at the highest point in Southern Illinois for ‘24. Booked my hotel 4 months ago. I just hope Springtime weather cooperates. If you live in the path or plan on going on a whim. Let me tell you, there will be lots of traffic. More so than 2017. This year’s eclipse is supposed to be even more incredible. Plus, it won’t happen again across our continent until 2040 something. All hotel rooms, rentals, camp grounds have been booked months ago. They were also asking 3-4x normal fees.

As an active amatuer astronomer, I've traveled the world to view these eclipses and have now seen 10....the last one from Argentina four years ago. While there, my wife and I met a man, younger than us, who was viewing his 22nd and had them all listed on a custom jacket he wore. BHE
No, in fact it is correct. The 11 second animation shows about 2 complete orbits of the moon around the earth - 2 months. But you don't see the earth spinning here is the flaw.

Yes, unfortunatelly. If you really want to see it, plan to be mobile and near a place that has a historical record of good weather during april.
