You may have seen snippets of it in past videos, but Richard now gives us a full tour of his private barn/clubhouse that has been a project of his for the past few years. Predictably, motorbikes have started to invade the space!

Just about perfect lair.
Absolutely have a model railway. But Richard should have the choice of what trains run on it >:D
Tell Mike to build his own clubhouse / 'man cave' for his toy trains.
Or tell him to go & pester James May as he loves children's toys & has a train set-up.
Your space is for your grown ups boys toys 😁
air bnb hammond?
My dad sold you the katana 1000 a few years ago. He was so smug to tell us all that you were buying it. It’s so nice to see it as almost a centre piece to your room. He passed in Nov 2021 and absolutely adored the GSX series. Especially the katanas. He would be over the moon to see it on here
Thanks for sharing this, mate. Lovely to hear but extremely sorry for your loss. ❤️
your dad had a beautiful taste, I am sorry for your loss, may you always remember him and everything he stood for. Kind regards mate

I just love how he keeps some of the items from his top gear days like those gt3 oven mitts that Jeremy gave him
whas that wooden boat model the 1 they game him in the philipines?
@@bobedwards8896 Nah, it's not even a sailboat.
@@bobedwards8896 you mean vietnam special, where they use motorcycles.
The boat is from the start of his and Jeremy's best trip without James may it started in that boat in Venice
I enjoy the idea that Richard's spaces are constantly being invaded by sentient motorcycles. Like, imagine he's at work and we cut to security camera footage of his barn here; a lone wild motorcycle peeks into the barn through an open door, then cautiously enters, followed by another wild motorcycle, then another, then another, and they start wandering about, checking out their new home, then Hammond returns home to find a new herd of wild motorcycles have moved in.
lame joke
@@johnschmo-b1b Actually it sounds very much like something Terry Pratchett would have written which works for me.
respect to dufenshmirts
It's a known fact that bikes are migratory.
It would be an entertaining way to give him a bike. Just park it in there and wait for him to notice.
Drain the hot tub / pool (to get rid of the moisture) and have a carpenter build you a sectioned cover for it (so that it can be put in / taken out in pieces) and a ramp (maybe one which is movable). Then put the bikes on it, as if it were a short plinth or just a raised display area. You could even have him build in uplighting like you have in the main barn, with each section having a plug, rather than being hardwired into the building. Easily reversible if you ever want and the only cost would be to build the covers.
My thought as well. Just cover with some nice decking. If you used that manufactured wood you wouldn’t even need to drain it for worries of moisture. Maybe rust though. If chlorine
I could see how the moisture would be a problem but how cool would it be to leave the water and then make a clear platform with LEDs lighting up the pool to illuminate the bikes from underneath.
Display for favorite bike at that time. :)
Absolutely, a glass floor over the water and having it lit from the water with bikes or potentially cars but might be too heavy and too big, but it would look amazing. Plus like said it can be reversible and will help resale value. 🎉😊
he's spent his whole life being destructive and wasteful, why stop now....

Loved the tour. For the swim spa, how about draining the water, put some protective coverings and then build the model train room there. You could use the depth of the pool to create a "valley". Something like a swiss village and the back walls could be built like the mountains with tunnels and a small access way behind which could double as train storage on vertical racks along the back wall "inside the mountain. Trains could be at all different heights allowing for multiple runs. Then turn the other room which would have been the train room in the the bike room. The swiss village would be a great concept for winter / holiday times when more people are inside.
This is such a clever idea to make use of the space (if you must have a train set) whilst retaining the Spa should the family ever decide to re-use in years to come …
...or have the model railway suspended from the ceiling in this room and if you ever going to use the pool again, you could use a pully to lift the "railway table". Maybe combine it to be a trick cover for the pool as well.
That’s a fantastic idea!
Especially cuz I want him to keep the messanine for art and music
This is brilliant.
It’s a great idea but it’s too James May-ish 😂😂
My jaw dropped when I saw the GT3 branded oven cloves. My life flashed thru my eyes literally all the memories all the long challenges, the christmas specials like Botswana, Bolivia, Source of the Nile, Iraq, India, all the tours in eurooe, Ukraine, Romania, Albania, Spain, Vietnam, all the challenges like saving Hammond in Canada, Lorries, 1970s convertibles, hot hatches, etc etc. I am speechless. It is all coming back to me.

Yes a model railway with James May and Mike coming with the crew to make content for What Next.
hamster will be amused for a day and then start plotting to accidently blow it up ok the latter maybe is more like clarksons role but still he might secretly engage him to do it for him.
Yes build a model railway but don't let Richard put coins on the line in tunnels so you don't notice to derail the trains or something 😂😂
@@CustomiZe_ A Scalextric track surely!
It just needs to be made.. functional. So a large enough gauge to carry freight. Then track side "water" towers that the old steam locos used, except these may smell strangely of gin. Wagons could carry flagons, but not to scale. Unless you were planning on pickling an entire village. Other wagons could carry dry goods from convenient silos. Like nuts, M&Ms etc. Log haulers could carry a selection of sausages, and if the topology allows, a small dumb waiter down to the kitchen for delivery of burgers, hot dogs etc.
Some model railway enthusiast somewhere on the web probably already has a suitable control/signalling system to manage snack & beverage delivery or there's always James. And possibly a few videos to be made from the construction and testing.. Might need to make sure any bar stools at the stations aren't able to transfer guests from mezzanine to ground floor, should they become gravitationally challenged. Or fit seatbelts.
James + Mike + Model railway, i dont care if the video is an hour long, i will watch it!
7:50 As an Arquitect, I would empty the "pool" ( for lack of better word) and instead of cutting it in pieces, just make a wooden floor (podium/orlop) on top of it with two ramps right after ther entrance doors... I image that height clearence would still be enough and once everything is dried, there would be no moisture to ruin either the floor or the bikes, and you would still have the pool to value the house if you wante to sell the house or just use it in the future (taking out the bikes to somewhere else).
This is the way
I must say Hammond has one of the nicest properties/houses I have ever seen
Yep - totally agree. His taste is very similar to mine (except he has the wherewithal to realise his dreams haha).

hey DriveTribe, bart here. Im a Industrial Designe Student here in Turkey. What i find most refreshing about this is that they've lived there for 15 years and it's still an ongoing project with a skip outside the window. I don't feel so bad now about my unpainted skirting boards (5 years and counting)!
As for the unused pool/spa thing, get Hadrian to use a few more of those RSJs to put a raised floor over the top of it so it can be used for bikes, but removed in the future.
A house and outbuildings that size would take me two lifetimes especially with all the toys in it .
The hand rail up on the mezanine is absolute GENIUS!! 1:12

@@bensaunders1567 Agree, but if there has to be a railway then the scalextric needs to run in and around the railway setup.
That’s my grandads old house. Please keep his pool . X ❤Love what you’ve done with the Barn.
As for the pool quandary, just build a floor over the top of it. And blend it with a slight ramp or a step or two going up to spot specifically designed to spotlight your nicest bikes.
A man cave bigger and more kitted out than any house im ever going to live in. Fair play to him, and the bikes 😍
I will always love everything about those 3 guys.

Wow, the concept of a private clubhouse, especially one associated with Richard Hammond, sounds like an incredible space for creativity and relaxation! A clubhouse often reflects a person's interests and passions, serving as a sanctuary where they can unwind and enjoy their hobbies. It's wonderful to think about the unique memorabilia and personal touches that could be found in such a place. The idea of a timeless private clubhouse really sparks the imagination about the history, stories, and experiences that might be shared in such a cozy and personal setting! 🏠✨
For the indoor spa/pool, a potentially neat idea would be to make it into a fish pond that is covered except for the ends with a thick glass or acrylic. Motorcycles that spontaneously appear can be displayed on top of the glass.
That ZXR-750 is absolutely amazing. That model's from 1991, I'm more of a fan of the 1993-1995 ones where the air intake pipes were removed. It looks sleeker to me and I'm obsessed with it. Richard's got an amazing bike and car collection and he's got quite a nice clubhouse (not man's cave) ;)
Richard, promise me you'll keep that bike forever!
Both Mike and James should be allowed to build a massive model train display.🎉🎉🎉
No words. That place is astonishing. That view in the window was amazing too. I wish he wouldve shown us the garden
I know that this is not gonna happen, but Fernie's model railroad sounds like a kind of perfect idea for the architectural piece in the library. He could make it look like a mountain or something, and then have the tracks go in and around and over it as a sort of futuristic-ish idea of trains. OOH. You could also have cable cars!
Once complete, you encase it in a big acrylic (or glass if you'd rather) display case, with controls somewhere on it to operate various trains/cars/?
Livin' vicariously through y'all's projects don'tcha know. :)
A big Scalextric track would fit better imo!
Everything so classy and tasteful. Not to mention the amazing collection of dream bikes
The whole time I was watching I was thinking wow this is fantastic but a model railway would really complete it, then you brought it so YES, absolutely build a model railway there!

I saw a few bikes from Richard’s collection in a lovely family owned motorcycle centre. The 5 valve was special, KR1S and 916 but the GSXR1100 I have a deep soft spot for! Really nostalgic and a lovely family who run the shop who are hugely passionate about what they do!
But haven’t mentioned their name lol.
@@mattmorris2867 sorry I think it was Lucas Motor Cycles in Ross on Wye.
The villain cartoons on the wall are amazing!
That’s really impressive. I am amazed on how much time Richard Hammond and his crew put into that Barn/clubhouse.
You seriously believe he went anywhere near a toolkit?😂
This is proffesionaly renovated, he might have pushed a bike into place but I even doubt it.
He says 15 years into the making, this thing in this state is a month or two for a professional. It's big, so maybe a bit more but that's it. There is not that much decorum, really they did not spent that much time in this place. It's so "new" there is even paint on the floor in the rooms corridor mate (look at 9:45). There are visible cut cables in some places ... Don't believe everything they say x)
Might takes 15 years yeah, but because he's too busy doing things everywhere but certainly not time to actually DO this place.
Why? They keep getting sacked. They have lots of time
That's mental! I remember when Hammond was walking around the dilapidated barn. Such progress.
Richard
Here is what you should do with your unused spa.
Pump it dry, Build a nice timber cover for it and use it for storage.
It offers quite a bit of space which can be used to store engine parts, old magazines, unused winter clothes in the summer and unused summer clothes in the winter...etc.
The cover could be hinged and could be in sections (maybe 3 sections).
These would all be really strong so that if you needed to you could park bikes on top they would be easily carried.
Hope this helps
Phil Meyer .
Hi Richard, thanks for the tour. As for a way to get around your swim spa without extensive demolition and dealing with a large void left behind, I think I have an idea.
Have a welder fabricate a platform that fits over the spa. If your spa has built in lighting you could have the floor made out of slotted steel, so that lighting from inside the spa can be seen from the top. Or finish the floor with a solid surface.
Then have a simple 1 meter wide ramp cast to allow your bikes up to the platform.
That was my thinking, give the bikes a stage to sneak onto
Yeah I was thinking build a frame/solid pool cover strong enough to keep a few bikes on top.
You could add a false floor on top of the spa area rather than cutting it. And maybe put a ramp where the door is so you can easily move the bikes in-between rooms.
let the bike sneaking in & out🤭
Not sure if their are any other Aussies or South Aussies watching this but Hammond wearing RM Williams boots is AMAZING
Would love to see a vintage 3-rail Hornby Dublo build series from you and Mike, maybe with James May’s occasional engineering input and a wave of his fibreglass pencil!
amazed he still has the gt3 oven gloves from the old top gear days
Exactly, surprised not many comments about it too
Thank you for sharing your home with me. It was wonderful what I like about you. You get to the point many others talk about themselves and what they did last week instead of getting to the point you do a great job. Thank you for sharing love the videos.
The model railway could probably use a flying Scotsman with realistic chuffing sound.
+1 to see Mike build model railway. I think something based on his Scottish roots would be fitting. Maybe a replica or influence to the route from Fort William to Mallaig which could also include the Glenfinnan Viaduct. Would compliment that space aesthetically too and would also be an enjoyable watch.
You sir, are a genius. Should have the Hogwarts Express train on the set
I’m in total envy of your barn, especially love the style from the outside. Beautiful
Love the "barn." What an exceptional collection of Motorcycles. I can only imagine that if any more magically appear, they'll be as equally impressive... Thanks for the tour...
Really loved this tour episode, thanks for showing us around. Would love to see more of the buildings and maybe a review of the four wheeled vehicles in the collection. Looking in great shape too, hope it's not from the stress of the Smallest Cog. 😂
That is arguably one of the most enviable club houses I've seen.
Mr Hammond truly sounds like the sort of lad I'd be chuffed to bits to do a motorcycle trip with. I tried to pitch the idea to Ewan McGregor about circumnavigating the globe on a motorbike but I suppose he wasn't interested. Could do a @Drivetribe series, "Around the World in Eighty Days" or something like that.
Nice clubhouse! When you asked about the train, my wife's suggestion was to drain the lap-pool thing, install some lifts, and locate the train on a sturdy surface that can be raised and lowered, thus installing the rail set AND hiding the pool (without having to demolish it). She also added, make it *really* expensive. A bit snarky, that one.
My suggestion would be to put it on the mezz, but have it be lowered in/out from the ceiling. That way it's out of sight when not in play. Lower it down, play engineer for an hour, raise it back up out of the way.
Truly an inspiration with such dedication to work and meetings. Personally I think he could have had a few meetings while he showed us round
10:54 Holy smokes, what a picture! Giving me goosebumps. Am I the only one who truly enjoys just looking at it? I love that picture. Amazing!
That's a gorgeous space and I love all the bikes in it, and indeed would like to see more bike content generally on DT. Regarding the pool, just drain it and build a decking over it for now, make use of the space without doing any drastic decisions like destroying it. As for the trainset, ehhh. Model trains are cool, but he can put it in his own home. Unless you'd be actually keen on it and play with it yourself, that would be a really big use of your space that could be better utilised.
Strange you mentioned a model railway. It's what came to mind for somewhere for May to play and with that amazing view it would be ace.
I love how relateable Richard Hammond is.
He has given me great ideas for my 2 bedroom rental.
Richard, you should know that somewhere, in the bowels of a Honda warehouse is a set of pipes for the CBX that make it sound like an F4 Phantom at takeoff chat. They exist, I promise you. Find them, borrow them and take it for a squirt up the road.
1:14 That has got to be the best rail idea I have ever seen, and it had been built perfectly!
The Top Gear studio from the 2000s had them.
It appears to be made from Honda 50/90 parts
Thats an INSANE collection of bikes. Amazing!
The scale model inspired railings are one of the coolest pieces of functional decor I have ever seen.
Have you seen the railings at his restoration shop, The Smallest Cog?
For the dis-used pool...what if you make a frame that slots inside it, fill it with lighting of your colour choice, and cover it in a thick piece of plexiglass or something similar that won't scratch easily and can bare the weight of the bikes? Imagine it, you do that and design a ramp and trim pieces so that there's no real evidence of it being a pool, and at nightime you'll have this showroom - esque area that is lighting the bikes up from underneath and really showing off their curves and features!
Gorgeous and tasteful update of a classic structure. Also, many of my car friends also have model railroads, including me, so you definitely need to allocate some space for one, which also needs to be a 'no bike zone', lol. Again, well done!
thank you for keeping our hopes up in these hard times, to inspire us petrol-heads, and for sharing what most of men would dream to have someday... cheers!
Mike deserves any model railway he wants
Yes, and Hammond can invite James May to play with the train set. That would be a treat! 💯

Unfortunately, we live in the 'Age of the Fool' where anybody involved in 'entertainment' is paid vastly more than their worth and contribution to society..........
Hey Richard, yes mate a model train built in that room would be really nice and I think a vintage one would look real nice
I have a swim spa…It came with our house when bought it. At first I was going to get rid of it…now I and all my friends and family LOVE it!! We set the hot tub side at hot tub temp, and the swimming side to 90 degrees. A warm pool. Try it out R.H.
Make the pool room into a sort of personal museum! Great idea to show off some unique trinkets and pieces that don't belong elsewhere
Definite YES to the model railway layout, That could become a channel all of it's own and if you went O gauge rather than OO Richard could actually ride the trains, actually thinking about it you could probably go N gauge and he would still fit 🤪
+1 .. Hammond living large... More power to him !! .. Understated elegance, yeah man..
How lovely! I’d have a wooden platform built on the hot tub thingy and put more bikes on it
I'd be in that pool every day that I could, oh and yes, Mike should build a massive 00 and 009 gauge layout on the mezzanine 👍🏻
The triangular roof structure look like a perfect ramp for two bikes mounted face to face.. Two classics would make a nice centerpiece..
Let Mike build the model train. I may not be a huge train guy, but they are wicked cool when all set and running. I’d also suggest make it a model of a real place if possible.
A fabulous walk through utopia and perfect timing too. NHS on its knees, striking workers, ordinary people that are at the end of their tether that have nowhere else to turn. More millionaires but more children in poverty, more second home ownership but more homeless, more profits at gas and electricity distribution companies but more in fuel poverty….

Hi Richard
I had exactly the same problem with the pool.
We installed at vast hard work a very expensive but bargain riviera spa pool from ebay and self installed with more than several pints of my blood spent.
Kids grown up no one used it and it gathered dust and slime
I had to chop up all the lovely travertine tilling and saw the top off the pool to get a level then infill and concrete.
Males a lovely home for my BSA goldstar now and dreams of further classics like your BMW r12. Strike the first hammer blow now you won't regret it.
Cheers Al
I could live in that as a house, and Hammond calls it just a barn!
His Barn is about 1000x nicer than my flat.

"Hi Richard, I enjoyed watching your video about your swim spa, but I noticed that you mentioned not using it very often. As a swim spa owner myself, I understand how heavy and cumbersome the standard lids can be, which can make it difficult to enjoy the spa.
I wanted to suggest a solution that has worked well for me - a roller lid. It's a great addition that makes it much easier to access and use the swim spa. It's a simple modification that can make a big difference in how much you enjoy using your swim spa.
I hope this suggestion is helpful to you. Keep up the great content!"

Funny thing, I showed my wife this video and she HATED the part about bikes turning up. So in house floor plans I’ve drawn I’ll put bikes in rooms. I have a motocross bike fully fitted with all the go fast and shine parts, I have been slowly moving it from the garage, to the back screened in room, and closer to the living room.
No joke a little while later I was given a perfectly functioning motorcycle (2012 Honda nc700x) for FREE from a friend of mines coworker. It is 100% true motorcycles just have a way of turning up. Can’t wait for the next one to appear, hopefully a thruxton 🤞
Mike has certainly earned a railway and a video series about it!
