I love Yamaha guitars! Yamaha products are quality all the way. I own two Yamaha guitars now and WILL be purchasing another, just not sure which yet. PEACE 💀👽🎸🎶🎵
This is so true ! At the time I searched for a natural finished fat strat and came up with the very same Yamaha Pacifica as Mike. It is labeled as a beginner guitar but a perfectly finished and great sounding guitar is already way more than that ! Even the less priced Revstar seems amazing. And the THR-10 amps... Really I hope they don't change a thing :)
I have this same guitar. Owned it for a while. Plays and sounds great, top end build quality, great price for such a quality instrument. Leaves gibbo in the shade.
The push/pull feature isn't actually a coil split, it's a passive high-pass filter Yamaha call 'dry switch'. The idea is to give single coil tones without reducing volume (at high frequencies). I guess as the pickups are so low output anyway (4.3k and 4.9k DC windings), you probably wouldn't want to split them in half. Nice idea I guess and very cheap to implement with a simple RC filter.
I just pickup up the base model rs320 the other day for 160 Canadian dollars and it's one of the best guitars I've ever played the tuners are fantastic and the tone is killer
Tried a 502T and bought it. Guitar snob or not this will fall into the must have for anybody who has any idea. When I compare this for value, I cant shake the feeling I was done whenI bought my LP? 👍🇦🇺
You need to try the Revstar 502T with P90's! I love the Revstars! I have two now! RS620 and 502T These guitars for the money are so sweet! Each model has a different sound!
I have both a 420 and 620. Excellent guitars; Yamaha doesn't understand 'good enough'. For them it has to be 'right'. I've been playing Yamaha guitars since my first FG180 that I bought new in 1969.
I was thinking about buying a 420.....What do you use your 420 for? I understand it is a double humbucker guitar. Does it sound like a Les Paul OR an SG OR like neither of them??!! What do you like about the 420? What could be improved on the 420? Thanks!!
It’s a stunner. The Bigsby really completes it. I enjoy those lower output pickups and your playing truly brings out the dynamics. The electronics sound fab. On my inexpensive Gretsch, there is little subtlety to volume swells. It’s off or it’s very on. The Revstar may tick all the right boxes for me... gonna see if i can play one locally. Mike... been looking forward to this vid. Your playing is getting more nuanced. Tasty, mate!
Mike Bradley well, I haven’t tried a Revstar yet, but a Reverend Warhawk RT was on sale yesterday at my local shop and I couldn’t pass it by. Happy playing, Mike! Dig all ya do!
The pull out switch is a simulated coil split. It doesn’t. Its a bass cut switch so doesn’t add noise like a true coil split. I was eyeballing these the other day.
Remember the Bigbsy restringing trick.otherwise you will end up losing it big time. . Attach string to the pin on the bridge, secure string to neck with a capo and then thread it through the tuning peg. The Yamaha SG series are crazy prices for some of the models in that range..
I own exactly the same guitar in that cool colour for about a year now. Really is a very good guitar purchased mine brand new for about half price got lucky on ebay If there is one minor criticism the rubber capping on the bigsby arm kept coming loose so took it off. I own a few Yamaha guitars as well as gibsons, Fenders, Fret Kings, Gordon Smiths, Custom Rock n Roll Relics and can say that Yamahas are easily as good. One thing the tapped tone pot is what Yamaha refer to as a dry switch it takes some of the bass frequencies out very subtle but does work well .
@@giovaniseptio1313 yeah very much so the chooners are locking, but you need to remember that guitarists spend half their lives tuning up an the other half playing out of tune
You've got great taste Mr Bradley. I've been thinking on the revstars for some time now but just bought a new strat. So alas I must wait a little longer 😩
Lovely sound you got out of that beautyful chunk of tree and metal. Yamaha make quality products, no doubt. I own a top end semi acostic from Yamaha that I love and Ill defintly go to my local shop and check out some of their Yamaha electric guitars. Thanks for sharing
Hey Mike, easy enough to change strings on a Bigsby. Pre-bend your strings, run them through and hold them down (fairly tight) with a capo at the first fret, then put them through the tuners and tighten until it’s tight enough to remove capo.
Yes, I have both the 720B and 620. I love the necks on these; nice and big and, combined with the jumbo frets, make these guitars supremely playable. The pickups on the 720B are lower output than the 620, but they sound superb. The Bigsby on mine is very stiff so, although I'm not really a lover of them, I'll be sorting a less stiff spring. The best thing? They aren't yet another Strat or Les Paul wannabe, but bring something new and fresh. I play mine through a Peavey Bandit 112 Transtube and Blackstar LT Dual overdrive pedal.
Seriously though, it’s an awesome guitar that’s very similar to a Gretsch Duo Jet especially with those types of pickups and Bigsby. I love the finish and most people are calling Japanese denim. It looks like a pair of acid wash jeans 👖 from the 80’s. Great overall tones and a super bang for the buck.
The 720b I have is great, however 1kg (2.2 pounds) heavier than the 620. What I really dislike about it is the nut (really needs something smoother like a tusq or properly cut bone), tune-o-matic bridge saddles beig cut way too deep and the steep string angle behind the tom bridge due to the bigsby unit placement, way too close to the bridge. All of this causes tuning stability issues even with properly stretched strings of top notch quality. They should have placed the bigsby further away, as well as install a different tuneomatic model (maybe roller saddles or much higher quality saddles with small string guides), as well as a graphtech nut. For what I paid, it's not important, but for what it costs new, it's quite unfortunate. Still, those pickups are sweet and the general workmanship fantastic. Too bad for what are small design and part choice flaws.
The Gretsch Streamliners are really good - e.g. the G2215. But yeah, Revstars are definitely one of the best 'bang for your buck' guitars in that price range.
I don't know why but it gives me the impression of being unstable in terms of tuning. Probably because I may be suspicious of Bigsby. On the other hand I feel that it is a guitar to sound clean or slightly crunch; not for strong distortions. What do you think?
Hi Mike, I just picked up a Revstar RS720B this week and enjoying it. What do you think of the very flat fingerboard radius -- an unusual 13.75" radius? Wondering also if there's "a place" for a 5--position switch instead of the 3-position switch. That is, are there pickup configurations (e.g., coil taps) that could be easily accommodated without doing any involved modifications.
Smokiiiiiiiin’ Mike!!!! Lovely looking guitar, but hell, as always, kickin it out the park mate 👍. The piece you did at the end with the delay and looper was just outstanding, I had to listen to it several times, I nearly wore the youtube tape out.😬😬 Can I ask what volume pedal you use?
.When talking about guitar snobery, you mentionned Gibson and Fender as the "big names". Well, in Japan, Yamaha offers models that are very expensive and not available in the Us or Europe. And those kick the *** of most G and F. As to the japanese made models offered to the western market like the SA2200 or SG2000, they are also on Par qualitywise with the american iconic brands.
Hi Mike - hope you can respond. I am on a tight budget and want to buy my first electric. I've been inspired by your videos to get a Yamaha Pacifica. My question is, will I regret going for the 012 instead of the 112? (to save a bit of cash)
GoonerBuller, I'll answer this one for you. Get the 112, since that one is made of alder. This is a great wood for guitars and used in some mid to high end Strats as well. The 012 is made of agathis. This is a very soft wood and not durable. The electronics in the 112 are also slightly better. I have played my 112 for a lot of years, I even dare to say it is as good as a Mexican Strat.
Nice. Shape is reminiscent of the old SG2000 (Mr Santana). I'm eyeing up a Yam at the moment. 611VFM I've had a few Yamaha basses over the years and they've all bee killer. From the BB350F to the TRB 6P. Got a Variax Standard going on right now and the Pacifica part of that is a respectable Strat clone. The sounds of the 611VFM are what's attracting me. Seymour Duncans P90 and a Humbucky. Listen to me selling it to myself.... That Revstar IS sweet though.
Mike - Do you still have this Revstar 720 b? If you do - what kind of material do you use it for? If it sounds like any other guitar /guitars - which one/which ones??? What do you like about it?What could be better on it? Thanks.
Nothing against legendary Fenders, Gibsons, Taylors and Martins. Most of the guitars from these brands sound good and they were played by legendary musicians. That said, Yamaha guitars (acoustic and electric) are definitely and absolutely good value for our money (nobody can deny such a reality) and, sometimes, they are also unquestionable high-end guitars like, for instance, the revstar rsp20cr.
I just thought it would be interesting to see what a versatile player like yourself could get out of the 510V. It only has has a 'trembucker' in the bridge position though this can be split into a single coil or a P90 or a humbucker. I was thinking a little ZZ Top and such! And yes, the Revstar is super!
Yamaha is such an underrated guitar brand. They are pretty well-known but they just don't get the praise that they so deserve.
Ömer Kerim
Not enough pro artists use them. Me thinks more endorsements will boost sales and reputation
They'll get it from me, the clarity is amazing.

This is something I've come to realise over the years. Some of the best guitars I've owned were Yamaha. I'm currently looking into the Revstar RS820.
Yes I have one and I love everything about it ! The feel of the neck, the sound of its pickups and the superb build quality !

Nice ambient sound towards the latter part of the video. Shows off the high quality tone of the pickups.

That rubber cap thingy is only to protect the top of the guitar while in transit with the Bigsby arm folded back. It serves no other purpose.
does the guitar stay in tune well? i mean..its bigsby..

My tip on changing strings on a Bigsby is to stick a bit of tape behind the bridge so you don't stab the finish when threading under.
Hey Mike, easy enough to change strings on a Bigsby. Pre-bend your strings, run them through and hold them down (fairly tight) with a capo at the first fret, then put them through the tuners and tighten until it’s tight enough to remove capo.
Should add pre bend about 1 cm from the ball.
Thanks for the tip Ian
It's unusual sounding. I'd say there's something to be said for a guitar that doesn't sound like anything else.
can hear Robert Cray singing in my head with the soulful playin cool...when playin the bluesy stuff, Awestrumm !! :)
Yes, I have both the 720B and 620. I love the necks on these; nice and big and, combined with the jumbo frets, make these guitars supremely playable. Love Revstars! I own an RS320 (the most affordable one) in stock yellow.
Thanks for this vid, these do indeed look like tasty guitars. A bit unusual, and stripped back to the basics. Sounds great!
Nice video. Loved the jam at the end.
That guitar and its colour suits you and your room decor. Hide it under your bed and tell Yamaha you lost it.
I might just do that!! :)

I love the Revstar, BTW - Is weed legal in your country?
If you like these Guitars you should check out Reverend . Very high quality, similar styles , (P90's. Bigsby's etc)

Now they do! Check their new 702b -- it's exactly P90 with bigsby.
A bit harsh in the highs
tasty
hey Mike... I am getting more Strat vibe here than LP what do you think?
It's probably because I have played a strat for 20 years, it's ingrained in me haha
I liked to think so too, but I heard you playing your LPs too.. it matters because I have some strats already and ordered this for a change

Absoltue awesome guitar. Still think humbuckers sound like someone singing with a pillow in front of their mouth tho, but that is taste not spec!

Dark sounding characteristics Double bucker thickness, always kinda outta time, not very versatile
