Why isn't this video more popular? It's really helpful. I wish I could've seen a video like this when I was in high school. It would've made life so much less stressful.
Omg, I wish I had found this before going to my portfolio review days. The first one that I went to (and actually got in, which is fantastic!) I walked in, really shy, shook the guy's hand and shakily shot into my artist self. It was so stressful, not knowing what to bring or to expect, and this would have been so, so helpful! You're stuff is amazing Biana! You continue to help realistically and awesomely! :D
BIANA YES THIS IS GOLD!!! loved this so much also the rAPPING I was dEAD XD This video is gonna go art community viral I swear all your videos like these are so great, also beware of me calling your house because the texting and sc isn't working so just yeah watch out for an awkward phone call because i need to know what you want for your birthday and we need another art hangout before you leave for college! But yeah this video is actual goals and I'll be watching it over 100 times
BRUH THANK YOU!!!!! TUT I came thisclose to cutting the rapping out ohmygod glad I didnt xD I think I know the problem with snapchat (hint: it's my fault) and I've been having LOADS of phone problems lately so that might be why D; YES TO THE ART HANGOUT OMG PLEASE LET'S PLAN
LMFAO YOU CAUGHT THAT!! Omg and it was so weird cause you posted a pic of it on instagram like a day before or a day after i posted the video and I was like wth why is this toilet aggressively coming back into my life xD aND THANK YOU LOVE, MEANS A LOT!!! TUT
The school I want to apply actually said they wanted to see a lot of unfinished stuff to see progress. They say people come there with carts full of sketchbooks, to show as much stuff as possible. So I don't know what to do yet.
I swear to fucking god like, I understand where they're coming from with wanting to see the process or whatever but that's so annoying for presenting -_-;; What I would do is bring my current sketchbook, my completed previous sketchbook, and maybe 3 illustrations I'm currently working on, each one in a different phase of completion (i.e. one of the base sketch, one inked, one partially colored). Then the rest of my submissions would be SLAMMIN finished pieces to make up for all those slots filled with incomplete stuff. I hope this helps and good luck!!!
Biana Bova Omg, I know right!! It's even more nerve wrecking than having to present finished work. Thank you so much for the tip! I will keep this method considered, but I still want to take the time thinking about what to present haha.
missing one thing... you don't necessarily have to go to an art school. If you did research there are colleges with programs (graphic design, illustration, mograph, sculpture, industrial design, printmaking, etc) that are very good if you did your homework.
I so understand. when I was is highschool I went to a portfolio fair n it was intimidating, I know I showed a sketchbook to one guy and he didn't really seem interested in my sketches because it was in a sketch book. because of that I worked so hard on my portfolio, the technical side anyway. and I didn't even apply or submit my art to a school because it was expensive and far away. plus I wasn't ready for college, it's such a stressful topic. during the fair FIT had the longest line in the world. *cries*
"didn't seem interested in my sketches because it was in a sketchbook" dude it's a /sketchbook/ was he expecting masterpieces??? Like wtf?? I'm sorry the early college years were so stressful for you D; Freaking lines man, I went to this one really intense one and the line was my top school was SO slow and SO long (only one professor and he was taking his sweet time with everybody) that it took up easily more than half the total time we were there "OTL I felt so bad for the people who came late and waited in line and never even made it to see him
Ik it made me disappointed because that was the first guy I saw and made me not wanna see others but I stuck threw it and saw other people. the process was soo hard but I got thru it *Muscle arm emoji* those poor people. but it is manly the school part because they did only have that one professor especially if they know their school is very popular. but maybe the staff actually had work to do or some thing :(
Thank you so much!!! I have my review in 2 weeks and Ive been stuggling with how I want to present everything. I have a lot of bigger things so I cant have the flip through book but I have this huge leather pouch that I can open like a book. You helped me figure out presentation SO THANK YOU!
This is super helpful. I'm not personally going to an art school, but I went to an arts boarding school for a year and aside from senior showcases, the VA's were super high tension whenever portfolio reviews came up, even just in school (I've imagined it to be worse than solo review).
Dear god, I can imagine OAO;; I know at the art school I'm about to go to, they do these individual reviews for all the artwork you've done that year so I'm super excited and super scared, it's gonna be great :D
Biana you seriously are so amazing at describing things like girl you are amazing I really wanted to say how stressful portfolio reviews are like my god so I got into a art magnet in a visual and performing arts school and girl I spent months practicing Still life's and I spent like for 3 years making my portfolio since it was a audition for incoming high school students yeah so it's hard making a portfolio but I really gotta tell you this when I arrived at the audition I saw 2/people the 1st being the kids who either had no artwork or very shitty art who had also not even spoke when asked questions and girl these people were not prepared so that made me feel better the 2nd then was the People with good art and very corky to the point where you got so irritated yeah so I had brought some pretty nice works I mean my works were so big I was put at the end of the classroom, so I literally cried when I got out cause I felt I did terrible I Did get in the magnet !! I love your videos
I love how your videos literally cater to my interests/what I didn't know I needed, so thanks for that. Also what did you mean by "technical stuff" when you were talking about your portfolio? Sorry if that came off dumb.
love this video, especially since im an art major in my highschool and I'm going to be a junior next year😊😊 and I was wondering where did you get your portfolio-binder like at? I have one that doesn't hold my pieces one by one, as a gift from a teacher and now it's wearing out so I was wondering what recommendations of portfolio . "holders"? I can use ....makes sense?😅😅😝😝 and subscribeddd
lotopauanka z. No they literally tell you right there as they're looking which is why the scare factor is sO HIGH. But it's okay, just ripping a bandaid.
that's cool though. I was just thinking about it because if they tell you right away maybe your personality isn't as important. Do you think how you present yourself (less shy) has an impact on the portfolio results?
this video was uploaded years ago so i doubt you’re still answering questions but if you are: what if i want to include a piece thats on a canvas and doesnt fit into the portfolio bag? thank u so much for your videos btw, theyre super informative
Do you know if they get bothered by small pieces in a large portfolio? One art teacher told me that the small pieces look awkward when they’re in a large slip, so should I try to print larger versions out or put multiple into one slip? (And by small I mean no smaller than a 9x9)
Can’t believe you said your friend did a drawing of a toilet Bc low key one day I was in the bathroom at school and was like “I bet no ones ever drawn a realistic toilet still life no art college has ever seen that! I should just wow em all and draw that!” 😂😂 And I thought of it completely as a joke but I guess even my joke idea has already been done
In Hungary we have to show portfolios if you go to an artsy highschool, so I have experience regarding portfolio review days. I'm thinking of applying to an American college so could you recommend any please. I have four years of training in fine art, abstract, an illustration.(+a little photography, but I really don't care for it)
It depends a lot on what you want to major in, your budget, and how intense you want the experience to be to be perfectly honest. For anything fine art related: RISD and Cooper Union are two of the best. For animation: Calarts. For illustration: SVA or Massart. And some other's off the top of my head are MICA, SCAD, Pratt, MECA, Ringling College of Art and Design....there's a LOT to pick from and I'm definitely missing a ton but this might help start your search!
Oof, where I live there’s no such thing as a portifolio review day, Art is treated like a worthless piece of trash and creativity is discouraged so I’ll see if there are online ones
thank you so so so so much. can you give me advice on what area of art you think I should try to improve on? Because I am kind of new to this due to me starting to draw about two to three years ago but apparently I'm the second highest in my class. and I don't have much confidence in most of my art or in myself. So can you please give me some advice it will be really helpful. thank you.
Yeah, sure! Do you have a website or someplace online I can see your images? (please not a youtube video, I like to take my time observing) Also, is there someplace I can message you privately? I reAlly dont think the youtube comment section is a good place for a critique xD

Im a sophmore in high school and im going to check out portfolio review day. Which. Is. Tomorrow. Wish me luck~ 🌟
So how is it now

I am not her, but i think she meant more realistic, with color theory, perspective stuff. Generaly less creative stuff and more studies
