I have been thinking about that, especially since Suicide Squad (which was suppose to have released May 26th, 2023, but got abruptly pushed to 2024) and now Multiverses are abruptly thrown to 2024. I know a lot of people are saying it's just a beta for Multiverse and this is expected, but many people thought the game wasn't in beta anymore considering they were charging people real money for certain things (some of which was expensive... that type of stuff normally doesn't happen in the vast majority of other betas) and they were getting ready for a season 3 (which they announced but didn't happen). It's a bit worrisome because Zaslav (the WB / Discovery CEO) is the type of guy to quickly cancel something (see what he did to several things on HBO Max, especially the tax write off he did for that now cancelled Bat Girl film for one of many examples). Hopefully my worries are wrong and Zaslav doesn't pull a Square Enix and cancel these two live service games sometime before their alleged 2024 launches and doesn't use them for a Bat Girl type tax write off for 2024.

Awesome video as always, I'm really going to miss your vids covering the leaks. I'll repeat here what I just told someone else about this whole situation: if (this is a HUGE if) the game is actually going to be relaunched in early 2024 and this wasn't just PFG's way of shutting down the game unofficially, they are going to have to launch with a roster of brand new fighters that should have been in the game on day one. The main person I'm talking about is Ben 10 (yes, I'm biased, how could you tell lol?) But seriously, Ben should be the headliner, along with Scooby Doo, at least one Lord of the Rings rep, Harry Potter rep, and classic Cartoon Network rep. If they add some legit offline and fun/party game modes, some decent maps (obvious stuff, like the Warner Bros Watertower, a city map like Metropolis, etc.) and improve the netcode, they could honestly bring it back. I have a lot of doubt, though, but we'll see! Thanks for reading my novel. 😂 God bless!
The game was such a big hit. WB wasn't prepared for such a huge success. So I think the plan isn't just about improving the whole game, but probably also a massive increase on resources.
A bit of a hot take with Multiversus. I think the game should relaunch as a full priced game, like Smash Bros and NASB. This way, the characters can have all of their costumes from the get go and have their death animations. The characters can be added through fighter packs. Usually free to play games are a slog to get different costumes and characters, and have to spend a lot of money. This idea could work. This game idea works so well, so, I think it doesn’t need to be a free to play, it just needs to be like a regular fighting game on PC and consoles to get this ball rolling for next year. Also, seeing Nintendo never got a piece of the action, this could be their chance to put it on the Switch and even on the Switch successor.
It’s gonna be like what waiting for Smash Ultimate was like, they’ll probably be updating everyone on development every now and then. Maybe we get character reveals leading up to launch like Joker and Samurai Jack to keep the excitement up

XD I'm a bit surprised that the whole game has to be taken offline in order to relaunch, but I'm not super familiar with how open and closed betas work... I think the problem with their roadmap for new content is that they didn't have a regular schedule to release them. For example, they kept trying to fit characters into that 2-week schedule in Season 1 that kept delaying. Instead, trying to add in new content only at the start of each season would give them more breathing room for development, and all that. Hopefully, the offline time won't just be for catching up to where they should have been, but they'll also have a solid plan for the future beyond the full launch too
Not releasing characters people want, two bad Battle passes in a row, no maps.. this is what led to players leaving. all i want out of multiversus is a more concise way to figure out wtf characters do without having to read a paragraph. maybe some light combo trials or whatever, and also a real competitive mode that removes all unlockable powerups so its a real fighting game
The stories of games like Multiverses make me all the more impressed by the project management skills and work ethic that must go into those established F2P games that release content on a regular basis like clockwork-especially in cases where the company behind them is SOLELY kept afloat at this point by F2P projects. Almost dropped my jaw then I read the description. I thought the game had a lot of potential. Sometimes the gameplay felt too wonky and unpolished, at times I felt like I was playing as balloons hitting each other, but I thought it could become great with patches. I hope when it relaunches it feels as pristine and crisp as Smash does. The concept had a lot of potential, a free to play Platform Fighter with no rules on what characters can get in? It sounded almost limitless. Characters like Walter White, Ben 10, Godzilla, and Master Chief would generate a lot of hype. I almost feel as if the game dropped too early. WB kind of screwed the game over by shutting down the modding community and not having enough modes for casuals. People say Smash is dead but that's far from true, I know people that play it almost daily. Mostly casuals who like to play it and Mario Kart just for fun. Multiversus lacked any real Party Modes and the main draw of Smash is using it as a fun Party game. I love competitive Smash as much as the next guy, but the casual crowd is where most of the sales comes from. It almost felt like Multiversus took itself too seriously despite being a game with Looney Tunes fighting Game of Thrones characters. I hope when they relaunch they make a Switch version. Because most platform fighter fans are Switch players. It would help increase the playerbase. This relaunch is their last chance and they have to fire off all cylinders to regain people's trust.

Perfect... just perfect. I got myself a new laptop because I really wanted to play multiversus, and now that I've been having fun, they decide to shut it down temporarily. Let's just hope that after the relaunch, it also comes to switch.
This game is pretty fun and i'm a huge smash bros fan, This is 100x better than PlayStation All Star Battle Royale for sure, but still idk I hope this game does survive long term hopefully whatever they plan to do adds a lot of content and replayability.
Tony Huynh once tweeted that the game wouldn't shut down when the beta ended. But he also said the founders' packs were leaving in season 1 and that more characters were coming to season 2. Nothing Tony Huynh says is very trustworthy.
I think they originally did plan to do open beta for a bit and then shut it down wait for launch. But everyone was so excited they decided to keep it open longer than they should have.
Please, WB, just give me a $60 game with a 50-character roster. Smash has set the bar, and you have the characters and the budget to give us a great game. The artstyle is wonderful. The trailers are hype. But we don't want a gotcha game.
i think this is a mistake. making fans wait so long already just to tell them it was for nothing and to sit and keep waiting is so lame. hopefully they bring such a good product i’ll have to play.
I think shutting down to get back on track is the right move but the fact they they are not giving refunds is diabolical, if they are taking away the game and all the content they should give the players back their money
yeah shutting down is definitely the right move, we will see how relaunch is but if they dont at least eventually have enough characters to spend founders pack tickets on... thatd be a bad look
They are taking away online play for the game from June 25 to whenever they relaunch in 2024. Everything people paid for is still accessable and won't go away. They can still be used offline (or with parsec)
@@Seb_Villac Mate you can't even fight bots offline... Something that I just realized is that on April 4th, the game starts to not release any new updates, is actually a day before The Super Mario Bros Movie’s premiere. I’m not sure if I am just going crazy but I think that this might be a hint at something Nintendo related for MultiVersus (there’s recently been a datamine of GameCube controller for the game, so it could potentially mean that it might finally come to Nintendo Switch very soon).
Its been clear for a long time that they released this game to the public about a year before they should have. However they really should have announced that things aren't going well and the game may be shut down before the season 2 delay announcement. I'm sure people bought cosmetics in that time believing they would be able to continue playing this game online. This is going to make a lot of people very angry, so they are going to need a lot of new content available at the 2024 launch to draw people back in. Its going to be a hard sell to a lot of people that lost faith in the developers.
They're going for the "A Realm Reborn" and using the "Open Beta" as their "Get out of Jail for Free" card. It's a masterstroke of PR and game development. It can only be done once, so I wish them luck with it. But it's a bold strategy. I'm along for the ride, regardless. I put in at least $60 bucks into the game, so until they say the game is dead & gone, I'll be following it.
honestly they should just make it a retail game like smash, people who bought founder pack get it for free plus dlc waves. people who spent any money on the game gets a discount on purchase, but itll be live service and die again
I'm definitely hopeful this relaunch will save MultiVersus, especially if they drop a tsunami worth of content with say most of the previously leaked roster being added, a campaign mode that's the closest thing to what Smash Bros Brawl fans will get to a successor of the awesome Subspace Emissary Story Mode where you have all these characters from countless universes meeting up and working together against a multiversal threat or just have a Multiversal Fighting Tournament which would work too, many new stages added including the few that were leaked and then some, as far as characters that haven't been leaked that could show up in Multiversus in this relaunch possibly Peacemaker since his series is quite popular and he's basically like Captain America but with more guns than one would shake a stick at, also is quite the formidable foe when it comes to hand to hand and melee weapons, so yeah he would likely have projectiles and melee, basically either a Bruiser or a Mage class for Peacemaker if he's added to Multiversus. I honestly loved the Beta for Multiversus when the season passes weren't so grind heavy, also when the rewards were near equal between paid and free and not made the free tier look like a joke, all in all the Gameplay is where Multiversus shined most and I will admit ended up being the best thing the fighter had to offer, I hope I get to enjoy the new relaunch version when it hits about as much as I played it originally otherwise it will go nowhere.
It's the best possible option if it really is as desperate as it seems, but the monetization leading up to now is very difficult to excuse in my opinion. This decision to relaunch was not made overnight, and the signs of a failing game have been there for even longer. I can believe that they sold those character tickets and battle passes with good intentions at first, but failing to deliver on the promises of 30+ characters and battle passes/seasons with meaningful content all while refusing refunds is just a bad look in my opinion. I think the right decision would have been to sell fewer passes and tickets in the first place, and if that wasn't an option, refund those purchases that had failed to deliver. Shut it down as soon as it was obvious that they could not deliver on the expectations they created instead of going silent for months. I don't think carrying that content into the eventual release is equivalent to a refund. No changing what's already happened I guess, just hope they do better the next time around.
I'm definetly curious to know the characters you heard, they might not join the game, i expect that a lot about the game and the character choices will change when they fully release the game, a lot of characters might be scrapped and others new ones would be choosed instead, but there's no way to know for sure. but it's good to know to help us predict which type of characters they would add in the future, i'm also curious about the merchandising stuff, so i'm definetly looking foward to the april 4 video.
A couple thoughts: As someone who plays a lot still, I'm sad not being to jump into matches for such a long time, but I do think it's the right move. I'm especially excited and hopeful in net code updates. That being said, the game being unavailable may cause those of us still playing to lose interest. They need to at least tweet about updates during that down time, even if it's just "here's Jeff and he works on balancing" or something. Just little reminders it still exists.
I'm just a little worried that expectations won't meet demands when the game relaunches. Maybe close to double the current amount of characters and stages if were lucky. And hopefully a story mode way down the line.
My biggest issue, was that the characters took a very loong time to unlock unless you bought them. and playing as even your favorite character against players who are 5 Tines better than you, with limited costumes, is only funn the first 5 times, if you want make me work for it, do it like smash bros, let me unlock one or 2 characters trough every trough matches, or Arcade/story mode
I am angry we had to wait the long for a cancellation All this time waiting for content only to be disappointed I think the developers should of been open about what was going on with the game addressing all this stuff day one and letting the players know what’s going on like they used too I’m really devastated by this even if it’s what the game needs it was handled wrong I really hope they atleast validate everyone who’s been sticking by this game by ATLEAST giving us one more meaningful update im hoping I’m praying
Im a little disappointed but also excited for the relaunch next year maybe they can work out some of the characters in a weird limbo state like Godzilla or Gandolph and I know it won’t happen but I would love a physical release sometime after the full release next year
I think this is the right move. Sure it is disappointing that MultiVersus won’t be able to capitalize on the 100th Anniversary of Warner Bros, but I am very excited for what’s in store when the game relaunches next year.
The game still does seem to be like their 100th Anniversary game, with all these characters coming together. When the game fully launches, it’ll probably FEEL like a 100th Anniversary game
Honestly I’m glad. This game went from being something promising to fill the Smash void to something extremely annoying as the devs and publisher seemed to backpeddle on every little thing making it near impossible to get excited about the future of this game. And honestly to be frank, I dont give a fuck about Stripe, Morty or that Adventure time character. Give us a proper Smash Fighters Pass 3
I think that they screwed up big time by waiting for so long to do/announce this, but it is the best option to save whatever is left of the fanbase trust and potentially regain some back with a proper launch with proper content and less janky update schedule
Multiversus is has been dead since they released the BETA IN MY OPINION. I mean they should of NOT released in any form till the FULL VERSION is released just like Disney Speedstorm which will be releasing in early access on the 18th of this month
Well that was a bit of a mess... Wasn't it? I sadly think part of why MV failed is the fact that the game is targeted for cooperative pair playing. I don't know man it's nice to risk and all but is that what makes a platform game exiting? At least the animations and the IPs are really cool and the potential is great, I hope they do better next year
Thinking about Multiversus coming back in early 2024, I really hope that Tony Huynh and the rest of the Multiversus team would announce the come back of Multiversus in the Game Awards 2023. I especially thought about this since PapaGenos talked about how Multiversus had a major missed opportunity to advertise their game during the Game Awards 2022 which would've definitely boosted and held the player count for the game. So, hopefully Multiversus will do the correct move this year and give an announcement of the re-release of the full version of Multiversus at the Game Awards. The thing that gets me most excited about this is the fact this could be bigger than Multiversus ever was, especially now since it would get the exposure to thousands of people at the Game Awards premiere who probably never heard of Multiversus. I'm extremely anticipating a massive, full release, new, animated, cinematic trailer for Multiversus very similar to the "You're with Me" trailer but with a ton of a new, exciting, big-hitter franchise crossover characters that are soon to come over the next few months of the release. Seeing a bunch of characters from incredibly popular WB IPs would definitely attract major attention to the game again, especially if they decide to make their return at the Game Awards. I'm hoping that the trailer would be absolutely beautiful and amazingly animated just like how You're with Me was, except every 20 or so seconds, BAM: A new character is revealed, and we'd practically get an entirely new roster. It would be even better if that roster completed ALL of the rumoured characters from the past year. Hopefully, just like now, Multiversus will make a good decision again at the end of this year, and pave their way from the Game Awards in December, to their early 2024 FULL release.
The floundering of this game just proves how impressive Smash has always been. I've watched some matches from this game but it isn't nearly as fun as Smash to watch. Everything just feels so floaty and the visual style of the game reminds me a lot of Disney Infinity.
Game needs a massive overhaul to save it. Forget new characters, it needs a physics change. Way to floaty, characters don’t feel like they have weight to them.
I’m glad the game is gunna full launch within a year ish rather then in 4 years haha a couple of my “smash” friends said they would play when the game fully comes out! So I think the game will pop when it releases

would be SO cool!
The Wii U and 3DS Eshops closing down and now this too?!?! Man, us gamers are taking a big hit today. 😬
I know its a rough day, at least we get zelda gameplay tomorrow
@@PapaGenos OH YEAH!!! Also, a quick thanks for your channel and everything that you do! YOU ROCK PAPA!!!
Multiversus is going on Hiatus until early 2024. Let the long wait begin.
🎼 Another one bites the dust. 🎶 🎵
Perfect... just perfect. I got myself a new laptop because I really wanted to play multiversus, and now that I've been having fun, they decide to shut it down temporarily. Let's just hope that after the relaunch, it also comes to switch.
releasing on other platforms on relaunch would be nice, hadnt thought of that
@@PapaGenos yeah, I don't think many people thought about console releases.
they say its coming back in a year but I doubt it. I highly doubt it, either way I'm never doing a founders pack again.
This game is pretty fun and i'm a huge smash bros fan, This is 100x better than PlayStation All Star Battle Royale for sure, but still idk I hope this game does survive long term hopefully whatever they plan to do adds a lot of content and replayability.
My main issue has always been gameplay. If they redesign a lot of mechanics I might try it again.
I hope they add random tripping when it returns
I'm thinking that Warner Bros Discovery merger did something to this game behind the scenes.
I started playing this game yesterday and I loved it. It lacks a lot of content though. Characters, perks, dlcs etc
I’m hoping when Multiversus return in 2024
Mordecai and Rigby from Regular Show finally get in
smart ass business move, the relaunch is gonna be huge just like the old one if they do it right
It's for the best. Hopefully this makes the game the best it can be.
****SPOILER WARNING****:
I hope they bring Daenerys into it and I truly hope that they don’t gatekeep characters that have died in their universe
Would be nice to get regular Nintendo news from you
I'll stream the Zelda Tears of the Kingdom Video tomorrow 10am EST and with multiverssu going away I'll probly shift more Nintendo for regular content
Got my notification bell 🔔 on for you, hadn’t seen much in a while. Been following you since smash ultimate speculation
Daaang it does need alot more content and just THINGS TO DO, to make it even halfway worth it to play.
Like papa said it was never the plan to close the game for about a year, there was no warning that everything you was paying for was going to be taken away for a year prier to purchase, for some people this was the last straw they are done there is no coming back for them. If the Devs wanna start a new slate they should give people back their money.
@@UltraRow i agree they should've had a refund option available but you were wrong about them taking away what people bought. Thats not what is happening as of right now. They can still be used in the downtime
@@Seb_Villac And by use you mean they can stand in the training room and look at em... I'm sure that's what they had in mind and was looking forward to doing when they dished out the 20 - 100 big bucks for them.
This Game Fell Off Faster Than Johnathan Major's Career.
topical
Something that I just realized is that on April 4th, the game starts to not release any new updates, is actually a day before The Super Mario Bros Movie’s premiere. I’m not sure if I am just going crazy but I think that this might be a hint at something Nintendo related for MultiVersus (there’s recently been a datamine of GameCube controller for the game, so it could potentially mean that it might finally come to Nintendo Switch very soon).
I meant to say “support” after mentioning “GameCube controller”
Its been clear for a long time that they released this game to the public about a year before they should have. However they really should have announced that things aren't going well and the game may be shut down before the season 2 delay announcement. I'm sure people bought cosmetics in that time believing they would be able to continue playing this game online. This is going to make a lot of people very angry, so they are going to need a lot of new content available at the 2024 launch to draw people back in. Its going to be a hard sell to a lot of people that lost faith in the developers.
I think at this point they will hold back any content that they could release and just save it for the full release next year.
Well…Time to start the put Dio in Multiverse campaign
We be loading a fresh save file on roster speculation for multivurses so thats exiting at least.
60 bucks lol that wasnt very smart
honestly they should just make it a retail game like smash, people who bought founder pack get it for free plus dlc waves. people who spent any money on the game gets a discount on purchase, but itll be live service and die again
who could’ve seen this coming
everyone haha
Literally all I want is for it to not be strictly a live service game
I definitely want to see you make a video where you discuss everything you had heard was coming to the game.
I would enjoy to see you reveal the rest you heard on April 4th
If you can still play offline then that means you can use 3rd party software to play online with friends.
Let's hope to see this game shine brighter when early 2024 happens.
Once again, we had promisin' good game, that bit the dust like the other uninspired hacks ridin' the coattail that Is Super Smash Bros!
I hope Regular Show,The Amazing World of Gumball ,Johnny Test,Teen Titans Go and Ben 10 In Multiversus.
This is definitely a good move for the game,I gotta big feeling that the full launch will be a massive improvement.
I will miss the game but I will play as soon as it comes back.
This is interesting, don't know if something like this would save the game or completely kill it.
I nearly had a heart attack, but otherwise i'm sad but i understand where the devs are coming from
They’re gonna shelve it for now and quietly cancel it later
Don’t hold your breath
So, technically, the people over at multi versus could technically get sued because they didn’t deliver on the packages that were purchasable
If relaunch doesnt give enough characters and stuff for all the founders pack character tickets perhaps? I dunno the legality of it all
I'm just a little worried that expectations won't meet demands when the game relaunches.
It feels like yesterday that multiverse has just begun
I am angry we had to wait the long for a cancellation
All this time waiting for content only to be disappointed I think the developers should of been open about what was going on with the game addressing all this stuff day one and letting the players know what’s going on like they used too
I’m really devastated by this even if it’s what the game needs it was handled wrong
I really hope they atleast validate everyone who’s been sticking by this game by ATLEAST giving us one more meaningful update im hoping I’m praying
@@dillongeorge5866 Absolutely!
Constant shitty servers won't save this game.
They got a big steaks and huge restaurant meals to be served.
When they rerelease the game all faith for the game is going to be gone.
This is a huge disappointment
You scared me with this lol love how you did keep up the amazing work papagenos 😁
I thought this game was launched... what with all the new characters etc?!?! So confusing.
Fighting game of the year but no one is playing
The floundering of this game just proves how impressive Smash has always been. I've watched some matches from this game but it isn't nearly as fun as Smash to watch. Everything just feels so floaty and the visual style of the game reminds me a lot of Disney Infinity.
Game needs a massive overhaul to save it. Forget new characters, it needs a physics change. Way to floaty, characters don’t feel like they have weight to them.
I for one say they should just do a full fledged physical release and release season passes as dlc.
Im really excited to hear everything you’ve heard about the game, that video is gonna rock
I’m glad the game is gunna full launch within a year ish rather then in 4 years haha a couple of my “smash” friends said they would play when the game fully comes out! So I think the game will pop when it releases
Well at least MultiVersus is coming back unlike a certain battle royal game that has a similar name with the word rumble.
They better had more offline content, more intriguing character choices and (some villains), more maps, etc.
