@@deathandrebirth-y8x In fairness, for many years games in general didn't sell that many copies all things considered. That same year Origins came out, CoD Modern Warfare 2, generally considered a contender for the best Call of Duty game, and being a game that was in an already insanely popular series that appealed to a broad audience, only sold about 12 mil copies. It is niche comparatively for sure, but it was still pretty hefty sales for the time period. While the number of sales for games in more recent years is often kept a lot more vague by companies, the number of people buying games in general is significantly higher now than it was a decade ago. Hogwarts Legacy for example, which came out last year, is estimated to have sold about 24 million copies, which is more than Wii Sports sold during its release year, (coincidentally the same year as DA:O), which sold about 20mil that year, and the Wii was considered an un-precedented worldwide phenomenon for how many people were buying it. Numbers without context only tell half the story, and it's much easier for even bad games to hit high numbers now than well received games could hit 10+ years ago.
Man, the fall of bioware needs to be studied. From amazing classics lile KOTOR, Dragon Age, Jade Empire, Mass Effect! To s**t like Andromeda, and now this? Heartbreaking 😢
That's what happens when EA buys a studio, forces them to rush games to cash in on trends, compromises quality and writing, letting most of the original talent leave and hiring incompetent activists in their place. Bioware is now a skinned face of what it once was, worn by something sick, twisted and entirely different underneath it.
It's not hard to understand: Almost nobody at Bioware today was there when they were pumping out golden age classics. It's an entirely different studio beneath the name.
Idk why, but the dialogue in the new one reads like it was written by a 30-something white woman who spends a lot of time on reddit. You know, the kind of person who says "le epic meme" and "pet the doggo".
You know what, maybe I should apply. I've never written anything longer than a few pages, but seeing how low the bar is set currently... maybe I have a chance.
Same way that Dictators and Cult leaders hire their Generals, Advisors and Inner circle: Zeal and Loyalty to the cause > any actual degree of competence.
I'm currently replaying Origins, and man, Alistair has me constantly smiling, and even when one of his jokes don't land, they're the kind of bad you still laugh at for being so horrible instead of cringe. Alistair has charm. His bad jokes make him MORE charming.
What I find hilarious is the Asian and Black elves. Skin color is not just a paint job where you go to the shop and magically become something else. Melanin is directly correlated with the position the equator and the necessity to deal with heat. The elves have, randomly, a multicultural society despite there not being any evidence of this just to be exactly like California. If there were any elves like this, they would have eventually bred to a more neutral and consistent 'color' anyways. But who cares about reality, we need to depict diversity without any reason.
Skin color doesn't dictate race/breed. It's your ancient ancestral mix. G25 PCA visualizes this reality. We will be forced to redefine race in order to describe this reality. It turns out we're all special and we can't replace each other like cogs in a machine. Turns out there's a lot of different breeds and sub-breeds of people. The Asian continent alone has quite a few. It's not the white race, it's the European race, and there's sub-races too. And the Levantines (Lebanese, Israelis, some Palestinians) are a (1st) cousin race to the European people. They both generally share around 50% Neolithic Anatolian farmer ancestry. Caucasus people are also a (1st) cousin race) to Europeans. So a brown Lebanese of a Christian background is genetically closer to a pale Englishman than a brown indian.
The banter in the original was really funny even in the medium of videogames which usually isn't. Like Morrigan comparing Alistair to the dog all the time.

The writing in DA Origins was perfection man. The banter between Alistair and Morrigan felt incredibly natural throughout the game....These characters had chemistry. How I miss those days.
It is so obvious from the moment you start playing this game that no attention to detail or care has been put into character interaction. They all converse with a modern parlance with no authenticity of a fantasy setting. It is completely immersion breaking when compared to other fantasy rpgs. This is for what Bioware describe as "the modern audience".
Holy fucking hell. If you showed me just that clip from 1:03, even with a hundred guesses I'd never have pegged it as a Dragon Age game. The writing evokes the kind of TV shows my friend's 8-year-old watches. Blows my mind that grown adults at Bioware actually thought other adults would like this kind of writing in a Dragon Age game. It'd be hilarious if it wasn't so pathetically sad.

Writing is atrocious. Have to spell out everything for you. Instead of getting to know the character naturally, and having depth. And tell you about "ramblers". Also it's just because she is too genius.
Absolute caricatures.
The hell does family guy got to do with this? x'D
@@Dorastrickland1993family guy is absolute garbage , just like this writers.
Alister was sarcastic and didn't hesitate to insult people and was funny how he did it.
They're just ridiculous attempts to appear funny and "quirky"
And he wasn't this way just for the sake of being qUirKy
He often hid behind jokes to make himself feel better
'He's right behind me isnt he' writing 💀
Well *that* just happened!
in DAO, the banter between Morrigan and Alistair was top tier.
In the next game:
A serious discussion is taking place, everyone worried and their voices grave. Suddenly, there is a loud CRUNCH in the background. Everyone stops talking and turns around to see the source of the noise. The comic relief character is sitting, eating some snacks. He/she looks up with a confused look on his/her face and just blurts out "What?"
--The writer dies laughing.--
You used the wrong pronouns, you rude!
You should have used "they/them", now spend 3 mins to apologize, as this game teached us!
They spent 4 entire lines of dialogue on napping. So Im napping on this game forever.

And the way he fuckin' STRODE outta there after that mic drop was amazing. Bioware was sooo good at cinematography, as well as dialogue.
Somehow Origins even looks better, it does a better job at making you feel the characters belong in that world
Veilguard sounds like one of those HR training videos about “appropriate” behavior
Did I just destroy this franchise with my freakin' game?!
Wow, I do that now, ok 🤓
Forspoken? 😂
Ummm the veil guards are behind me isn't it?

You can't convince me that waterboarding wasn't simply replaced by playing "games" like this.
Well played glowies.
Glowies 😭
They thought they were going to get Awkwafina for the Asian girl and it's incredibly painful
Wait that's not her?
Humour is very hard when you're not trying to offend anyone
bro you made the perfect character for this game lmao
As an aspiring writer myself, I used to think I just sucked at writing humor. This game and its writers have fully convinced me that writing no humor at all is infinitely better than whatever hell they were trying here. For that, I thank them.
Some people just aren't meant to write humor, don't let that discourage you from writing.
sorry my face is tired for dealing with veilguard dialog
DAO had this constant sense of dread that something horrible is always waiting to happen which makes the few humorous scenes necessary for levity
we have a dog in the party and allistair is still the dumbest one in the party.
I really miss it when Bioware was very subtle with their social lecturing. It made for some of the best 'real' moments.
They're so proud that this game ain't going to sell millions of copies
not to defend them but dragon age was always a niche product. even origins.
@@deathandrebirth-y8xTell that to the Failguards budget fam.
@@iemzaf that doesnt change the numbers. origins sold like 3 million. inquisition 6 million.
that just means someone likes losing money.
@@deathandrebirth-y8xyou must be very braindead to think those numbers arent good.
Youre jaded by the top 0.001% of games that sold more than that.
Original devs left.
Its just a zombie studio.
That's what happens when EA buys a studio, forces them to rush games to cash in on trends, compromises quality and writing, letting most of the original talent leave and hiring incompetent activists in their place. Bioware is now a skinned face of what it once was, worn by something sick, twisted and entirely different underneath it.
Doesn't need it. It's very simple. Bioware got bought up by EA and will end up like Bullfrog, Westwood, etc., in the EA game studio graveyard.
It's not hard to understand: Almost nobody at Bioware today was there when they were pumping out golden age classics. It's an entirely different studio beneath the name.
Easy. The games we talk about were made over 15 years ago. People involved are long gone.
The Cat ending came out more funnier than the Whole video itself 😂
Dragon age veilguard, bringing that Caillou energy we’ve been waiting for
Idk why, but the dialogue in the new one reads like it was written by a 30-something white woman who spends a lot of time on reddit. You know, the kind of person who says "le epic meme" and "pet the doggo".
because it is.
Well more like a 30 something man pretending to be a woman who spends a lot of time on reddit.
They put the "drag" in Dragon Age...
Stolen but still a good meme.
Dragqueen Age: Gayguard
Cant spell Dragon Age without the "drag" 💀
It's the Drag-On Age
Rook's chin looks like that chad-meme
Ive lay out with a more prominent chin girl. And honestly you have to focus of not looking at it to enjoy.
How do these writers get jobs at major studios? HOW?!!
You know what, maybe I don’t want to know the answer to that question.
You know what, maybe I should apply. I've never written anything longer than a few pages, but seeing how low the bar is set currently... maybe I have a chance.
Non binary
Same way that Dictators and Cult leaders hire their Generals, Advisors and Inner circle: Zeal and Loyalty to the cause > any actual degree of competence.
Jews.
nepotism and quota-filling?
Have you ever licked a lamppost in Winter?
You can hear the writers self inserting trough these characters i swear
We all love our Boi Alistair in Origins
The dialogue between Morrigan and Alistair was just amazing. It was like watching a stand-up comedy.
I don't play choices story games, but boy am I wishing there were more choices than Yes, Yes with less emotion and Yes with more emotion
Dragon Age: The California Edition
People said the dialogue sounds like corporate speech, when HR is in the room. That's scarily accurate lol
I'm currently replaying Origins, and man, Alistair has me constantly smiling, and even when one of his jokes don't land, they're the kind of bad you still laugh at for being so horrible instead of cringe. Alistair has charm. His bad jokes make him MORE charming.
I guess devs were inspired by Demolition Man movie. "Rook, you are fined five credits for repeated violations of the verbal morality statute."
Dad jokes (DAO ) vs Jimmy Fallon mumble ( DA:V )
1:04 i dislike her with a burning passion
What is this dialogue? Everyone is speaking like they are in a California high school.
The banter in the original was really funny even in the medium of videogames which usually isn't. Like Morrigan comparing Alistair to the dog all the time.
That “Millennial Writing” video ages like fine wine 🍷
I 'll assume most of you have DAO, but I' ll say this just in case. Grab the game from gog, download and store the files. Now, even if they pull this masterpiece from the store it 'll remain in your library and your backed up drive or w/e. cheers and rip bioware
Or better yet play it emulated with controller because they didn't bother to port the controls.

The writing in DA Origins was perfection man. The banter between Alistair and Morrigan felt incredibly natural throughout the game....These characters had chemistry.
How I miss those days.
When you read YA novels and watch post-2010 movies your entire life, you end up writing this.
God forbid the characters take anything seriously. The endless sarcasm really removes any stakes.
Big ups to Steve Valentine - most underrated VA ever, his delivery is what makes Alistair the GOAT even after all these years.
I really wanted to be fair and like this game, but I have to admit, the newer one sounds like characters in Disney Dreamlight Valley 😞
Its crazy they kept teasing their bankruptcy since Anthem and Andromeda. Veilguard it is.
