@Bad Voodoo good idea on the terror but murktide is a MH2 card, gurmag angler would be the next best thing, it's also possible this video was made before DMU released
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but I don’t like sets for specific formats, neither Modern or EDH. Reprint are fine, but when theres auto include cards it makes the format feel so restricted.
I completely agree with the exception of standard, but that almost goes without saying. When they print for modern they are invalidating 20 years and 104 sets for 2 sets. Over 20,000 are replaced by 600ish
Agreed. It's why pioneer is far & away my favorite format. Much more accessible/affordable & functions as modern was intended to ("wow - I love this standard deck, how can I keep playing it?")
As mostly a commander only player, I HATE almost any legendary creature printed in the last 10 years because they have this problem of being a commander all star. There's no "building around it" anymore, it's just "what does the card tell me my deck should have in it and do".
7:50 I’m pretty sure fatal pushing the reshaper would work here since there’s no targeting restriction and by the time the push resolves the founding trigger is off the stack and so the saga is sacrificed.
But don't you have to cast the spell during resolution of III? During the game I actually thought about it, but it says 'sacrifice after III' and casting seems to be part of III I might be wrong and am willing to learn better :D
@@jaminkauf6242 casting the spell is done during the resolution of the third chapter ability however fatal push can target anything even if it can't destroy it at the time. Once fatal push has been cast the chapter ability has finished resolving though fatal push is still on the stack. With the final chapter resolved the saga will be sacrificed as a state based action, then fatal push will resolve with active revolt. Please note: I am not a judge, though I am quite confident about this being correct.
@@poiri That's right, this if how it works. Fatal push doesn't restrict the targeting, nor it "choose" effect. You target, saga sacrifices itself, on resolve it checks for revolt (and it checks true) and destroys the seer
Quite possibly the best content on this channel so far. A lot of fun to watch!! Would be fun to watch some other 'makebelieve' episodes, maybe something with some modified or completely custom cards.
Amazing video! I feel like I have watched a whole movie with good plot, and based on my favorite hobby no less! Thank you Cardmarket, wonderful idea and execution!
As little as it matters now, you *would* get revolt off the Fatal Push. 7:43 The way it works is you target the Instant/Sorcery in the graveyard, and resolve the abilitiy - exiling and and copying it, allowing you to cast the copy. Once you 'finish' resolving that trigger, the Founding would be put into the GY as a state based action and 'trigger' revolt.
Funnily enough, this only works because of how Fatal Push is worded! Since it allows you to target any creature (and it only checks mana value on resolution), you can target the 4 mana value creature even before a permanent has left the battlefield. (Since you're casting Fatal Push as part of the resolution of Founding the Third Path's ability, the latter isn't sacrificed until Fatal Push is already on the stack.)
28:10 I so agree, mistakes happen and as someone who records most of his matches, I'm also often confronted with my own mistakes, but that's part of what makes this game so interesting :D On to Game 3!
Pfft! The opening is gold : ) And it was really fun to see some of the new cards play with old modern decks. It's like a window into what modern would look like if it added a few great cards over time rather than, well, you know : )
I've got one observation for your Production team, Cardmarket. Toffel's commentary at 29:32 didn't make much sense because he had not drawn his Veil of Summer yet. I even thought at first that he may have mixed up the Boreal Druid and the Veil, but then I noticed he mentions both. This fragment should have been inserted after him drawing the Veil of Summer - then it made sense for him to change his intended turn 3 play.
We tried an a new freelance editor. We spotted the mistake too late, there will always be some growing pains when adding new people to the team :) - Carl
around ~8:00 there was consideration of casting fatal push from Founding's 3rd chapter, but you've said it doesn't get revolt - I'm conviced it does. As the chapter 3 resolves it exiles the spell from GY and creates a copy on the stack. After 3rd chapter resolution, the ability goes away from the stack, leaving only Fatal Push and the saga would sacrifice itself due to chapter 3 being put down from the stack. Am I wrong here?
i love the meta breaking the third wall bit :D can you credit the instrumentals? backseat gamer in me is saying 24:00 drown the obligator would be the move ;D playing around veil though The obligator trigger says target creature, so even letting it resolve youd be able to drown ledger in resp, right?

Re: your Obligator question-- Not entirely sure what you're suggesting by drowning the Obligator. It's a cast trigger, so you'd only be countering or killing the 3/1 body, but the threaten effect would still happen. And yes, he could've drowned the Ledger Shredder in response to the threaten trigger. But then Toffel would have 2 additional mana to work with (since you pay the cost on resolution), which could've been relevant. Say, for example, play an Eldrazi Temple into Reality Smasher. So yeah, those Obligator turns were really interesting if you break it down player by player instead of having full information.
even though there are definitely some fun cards in modern horizons 1&2 I don't think that it is a hot take for me to say I wish they were never made. like it's fine for the metagame of modern to evolve and change and some decks to become less playable and some more playable, but my main problem with these modern horizons sets has been the fact that I feel like most of my cards are useless. like the collection that's been built over years of playing magic in this format and only a few of those cards and almost the entirety of modern horizons is worth playing. it's like outside of my fetches and shocks non modern horizons cards are actually Staples I want to keep in my decks. not to mention and I know that this is going to sound evil but it is true, I love infect. I have been an infect player for a very long time now and modern horizons just murdered that deck. this was a really fun look into an alternate timeline that I wish was real
It's funny how Toffel is explaining why targeting the mentor was a mistake without realizing he actually had a great attack in the end. This is probably because he forgot that mentor had already grown from the prowess triggers. As a result, he had 3 lethal attackers while Jamin had only 3 blockers. Ledger Shredder was only a 4/5, so it would be forced to chump block the reality smasher. Of course targeting the shredder could've given him lethal by conniving himself, so it might still have been better to pick Shredder.
Should have kept track of the Mentor. He could have assigned lethal to the mentor that was reanimated. Making it get exiled so you could not reanimate it again in game 2
Guys, when jamin cast his first " can't stay away", i think there is a missplay, because he taps a island and a watery grave, but " can't stay away" costs a black and a white. Am i correct ????? I'm Brazilian, so i possibly have wrote some words in the wrong way, Sorry :))))
I wish that this happened in real life, I never even played modern very actively, but it's clear how much the Modern Horizons stuff wrecked the format.
What do you all think? New Format worthy?! I wonder how long it’ll be before people start a format with Modern Horizon’s (and any other direct to Modern card) banned.
Wouldn't in game 1 the third path getting it's third counter send it to the graveyard? Since there are no more chapters it is sacrificed as a state based effect? The trigger would be on the stack as the saga is sacrificed... Pretty sure, could be wrong. Interesting interaction!
