  • Inherited thrombophilia, a condition most frequently caused by Factor V Leiden (G1691A) or Factor II Prothrombin (G20210A) gene mutations, is a predisposition to develop thrombosis and potentially lead to Venous Thromboembolism (VTE). Evaluation of a patient’s risk for hereditary thrombophilia through Factor II and Factor V genotyping is critical for the diagnosis and clinical management of patients with thrombophilia.

I had three blood clots in my right leg when I was in my late 20s. It was only years later when I wanted to try and conceive that I had my blood tested and came back positive for FVL, luckily I’m a heterozygous carrier. I was on the birth control pill when I had my episode so expect that was the catalyst. I’ve since given birth to a beautiful son, who is now three; I injected clexane throughout my pregnancy and had a good experience, with a healthy delivery.

Thank you for this. I was misdiagnosed at the emergency room on Super Bowl night in 2015. I got an ultrasound on Fab. 10th 2015 and the told me not to go home and go straight to the emergency room. I had a blood clot in my left leg starting from my ankle all the way up to my upper thigh, and clots in my right lung. I had been on birth control for only 3 months. My hematologist told me that I have both Factor V and II. I was only 27 years old, and they also told me that if I had not come in when I did, I would have died.

I'm 78 years old and two years ago I had covid and a month later I got clots like you describe. I already knew that I had factor 1V. they put me on Riveroxiban and kept me at ER overnight. I was lying there thinking, "Well ,Lord, if you want to take me home to heaven, that's ok." but I made it through.

My husband was recently diagnosed with FVL never had an issue with blood clots and then he started noticing pain in his calf and thought he pulled a muscle at work. Few weeks later pain was unbearable went to the ER and they found blood clots in his legs and lungs. Multiple test later they diagnosed him with this FVL my husband never had an issue before. His mother suffers from blood clots as well and never knew of this condition she is from Danish decent which this factor is common in European cultures we are told. The only solution is for my husband to be on blood thinners for the rest of his life. Which is hard pill to swallow going from being a healthy man to have an incurable blood disorder.

I am so glad you are ok. Factor V caused a DVT in my leg, and a great doctor saved my leg and life. Currently on a light dosage of Eliquis and I am healthy. Keep trying. You will be fine. everyone should be aware of the signs of blood clots, including PA’s and Doctors.

Sounds very similar to my experience. I knew I had FVL, I had two bouts of DVTs, but never a PE. PEs are so often misdiagnosed. I was told I had allergies, and the pain was from a back spasm. Plus I tested a couple of times for COVID because I was having breathing issues. Finally after having real trouble catching my breath the manager took me to the first aid station at work. They did BP and blood oxygen reading. The attending PA looked at the number and said, "Call the ambulance." Spent a week in the hospital with a heparin drip. Now on Eliquis probably for life.
Two notes. Everyone has Factor V, or they would bleed to death. What we have is Factor V Leiden, which is a mutation of Factor V that make the clotting turn off mechanism not work very well. And here is the fun part. This mutation is thought to have originated in eastern Turkey thousands of years ago. This means all of us who have this mutation are cousins. We are one big happy clotting family.

hey iam so sorry to hear that i have aquestion when you got clott in your lungs before that you eat Revoraxaban ? or not ? i want to know if revoraxaban prevent you to got clooted on your body or not and i have this disorder too i lost my one kidney when i was 6 and when i was 6 they dont know why my blood cloted and in my 20 i got dvt then they undrestand i have that disorder realy hard life for me 🖤

@@iphdi-ha8682 I never took revoraxaban, which is sold as Xeralto. I took Apixaban which is sold as Eliquis. I took this to help clear the DVTs and it did, and then I stopped. But now after two DVTs and the PE I take Eliquis everyday. It has been 2.5 years since the PE and so far no DVT or PE has recurred. I think Xeralto would help prevent recurrance as well. They are similar drugs.

i was just diagnosed with factor 5. I woke up one morning and could barley move or breath then 2 days later I was coughing up extreme amounts of blood. the hospital thought I was having a heart attack. they did the cat scan and I had small air pockets and a blood clot in my lung. 6 and a half month later I'm still feeling some of the chest pain/preasure.

I had a blood clot in my lung when I was in a car accident and I had to take anticoagulant medicine to get rid of it and I was diagnosed with LVF my family has it, my sister, my nephew and some of the other people in my family. But I’m not on the blood thinners anymore because I am doing well and I’m not having any problems. I have Epilepsy and EDS, too.

Some people are on for life others are not. Many people have factor 5 and never develop blood clots

Would you happen to have any more info for athletes? I am 51 but I live jiu jitsu (no gi), wrestling, etc but now they say I have FVL and have to be on blood thinners the rest of my life. I had competitions I wanted to go to so I am wondering if there are options like coming off blood thinners for a short period of time, etc? Any links would help. God bless!

I was at home and doing my makeup after going to the gym. I had NO energy, hard time breathing, but I went to work.
I was waiting for my next client outside my room, struggling for breath, and mycoworker noticed my lips were blue. I didn't realize how bad it was. I was taken to the hospital and had a pulmonary embolism at 30. My father passed from a stroke at 46. Distressing.
