Toy Polloi: "The tail tip has probably been missing for 20 years and I just never noticed it" Mrs. Polloi who accidentally bumped into the shelf 5 years ago: "Yep...probably..."
@@BludgeonRiffola87 You get a few more ones showing up under MOTU Tiger, saw one for $50 before. But no.. its not cheap nor all that common... but hey.. it what luck is for no?
I've been making some custom figures recently (I made a Rick Deckard from "Blade Runner" and a 3.75" vintage-style He-Man, etc.) and I've found that Milliput is just fantastic in every way. From its adhesiveness to its sculptability to its drying for paint, it's just a wonderful product. The only thing I'd recommend for anyone using it is to consistently wash you hands while sculpting, as it tends to rub off on your fingers, which makes smoothing surfaces a bit difficult. But just keep the fingers clean during the process and dip them in water a bit and it helps.
Milliput has helped me with a lot of fixes and jobs around the home. It is great stuff and always surprises me that more handymen and builders don't use it. my Mother got a handyman to pit some cupboards on the kitchen wall. As he put the doors on, I could hear the drill screaming as he forced the self tapping screws into the door hinges. He basically drilled the wood out of the holes. Screw had nothing to keep it in. Doors fell off same day when opened. He was called back in. Meanwhile I put Milliput into the holes. Screwed the hinges back to the door and filled the holes in the cupboard with it. Closed them gaffed them in place and next day when he came back they had held in place. Mother passed away 9 years ago and this was well before that. They are still in place and as strong as ever. Everyone should get some. Great bit of sculpting and painting match.
I actually still have the strap for my Battle Cat and I got it for Christmas 1982. My MOTU figures are my favorite toys and I’ve don’t what I’ve can you keep them safe and take care of. I am currently fixing loose legs so they will stand on their own so I can put them on display.
That’s awesome , great post ..U r one of the lucky ones:) all my original toys were lost years ago..now I’m one of the 80s kids who has been building back everything (and more) over the years
Very nice job! I am far too busy and innately lazy to make repairs to toys, but I love watching your methodologies and maybe one day when I’m semi-retired, I’ll try my hand at it. Thanks so much again for doing these vids!
My pleasure. Glad you enjoy watching them. I watch all sorts of restoration videos I'm never likely to do for the same reason. I just like to see people fix things.
Nice repairs mate. The elastic band is a much better method of securing the body armor on those cats. Mattel should have utilized this instead of going with those cumbersome plastic belts.
Hey Dave Nothing wrong with those fixes. For the 1st time I guessed what method you would use...however missed "doubling" the paperclip...haha😉 Take care
That tail repair turned out beautifully and I totally agree that those elastic band repairs look and function far better than the originals. Thank you for another great video, Dave!🙏
I never knew to use millaput. I was going to break off a tip of one tail and glue it on the other tail, but I still have a battlecat with a broken tail.
How about using some blue stuff to get the identical shape of the end of the tail...and then attach it to the the body with metal wire/paper clip....in this way the structure of the end of the tail will be the same
Very nice work with the tail, David. I was worried Milliput may not grab well enough to the paperclip wire so I would suggest, as I've seen other sculptors use, anodized aluminum wire wound up with floral wire, using superglue to fix one to the other, but it looks like what you did would work just as fine as it's there just to help shape that curve.
@@toypolloi have u ever repaired a Tyrantisaurus Rex? The Cyborg dino from MOTU? broken jaw spring, peg on the shoulder Lazer broken, missing drone and belly door
Another Stirling job Dave! I wasn't surprised by the method, i knew the milliput and paperclip was going to make an appearance, but it was expertly done, along with a near perfect colour match to boot!
Nice Milliputation TP, one thought it did inspire was maybe getting white elastic and dye or gut a felt tip of the correct colour and smear the ink of the innards onto the elastic and let dry to get a more faithful match, that's why I like these vids tho, they get you thinking of alt. angles
Great fix yet again, I really should have used paper clips when I did my Greedo antennas as it drove me mad trying to sculpt them without a base to work from 🙄
The elastic is a good way, i was thinkin also of zip ties wraps for cables etc...they come in different mesures and colours, perhaps once painted they could match also by material type
I always enjoy the MOTU videos! Nice work on Battle Cat's tail. Paint match was pretty close. Perhaps a small bit of yellow added to the mix might have slam dunked the match for you, but it's pretty darn close as is. Great fixes, Dave!
You know those red and blue rubbers? The blue side also works quite well for removing those paint scuffs off toys, nice alternative if you don't like using (or wasting, if you smoke) lighter fluid. I liked this fix, I did something similar for a Panthor I have but for one of the fangs that for some reason just fell off.
"To do the repairs, we're going to perform that time-honoured task that toy tinkerers have done since time out of mind." "What's that?" "Put the kettle on."
how does warming old plastic effect longevity? might it make it more brittle or do you suppose it rejuvenates it (or no effect or too many variables to say?) when we put He-bands in the legs, it's what we almost have to do. also: 🤔why flatten the belt (saddle strap)? it's the shape of the rest of the toy --the shape it needs to be. I mean it didn't take much time or effort obviously but... meeh🤷
Great video as usual Dave. Your elastic strap is a much better design than the original. Too bad they didn’t consult you when they designed the original toy!’👍
Do you have a Video on how to repair the Hinges on Playsets like Grayskull or Snake Mountain that have snapped off? If not, would that be something you might consider doing in the near future?
Have you considered using Blue Stuff to make a mold and filling it in with Green Stuff when you have a fully functional model to use as a master? (I've remolded a foot for one of my MotUs whose front part had snapped off and using wires to pin it in place worked very well.)
I have done that for other projects. But for this I wanted to show people who only have the one battle cat what is possible. Most people won't have a second battle cat to make moulds from.
@@toypolloi That's a fair point! (Didn't think of it.) Besides, you have some serious sculpting skills and your color game is on top. Is the silver miliput finer than the regular magenta-boxed one?
Your probably won't see this but do you know any ways to fix my motu origins head joint, I don't want to spend money and i hope there are ways to fix it, thanks in advance

Hmm, you could be right :D
Great repair. Battle Cat roars with gratitude!!!
That tail tip repair is excellent
I still find it fascinating the color variety in plastics of certain versions given they must have used similar dyes.
Now you just need to get the Big Jim tiger, that uses the same sculpt as Battle Cat, so you can have a 3rd variant ^^
I looked the tiger up on eBay and there are two. One is $400 and the other is $550!

Then you'd have to get the tarzan black panther that the tiger is based off of lol

gotta go dig in my boxes now.

Removing that first mark reminded me of Ripley cleaning Newt's face... Once you get started, eh? ;) Lovely video, mate!
As always perfectly done. The tail is the work of an artist. Very impressive. Keep up the good work. Stay safe.
Thank you very much!
Yet another amazing repair. Battlecat was one of my favourite figures from my childhood.

There is a finer milliput. The basic comes in various colours of which this is grey. Doesn't make much difference as you always paint it.
