    Love your vocal timbre and control. Those transitions from straight to vibrato, growing the vibrato like you do is just very cool, and very nice to listen to.

    THIS video SOLD me. I've been using a Line 6 HX Effects for 6-button looping, reverb, bass octavizing for YEARS. I've far, far outgrown it. What really sold me is the vocal looping and the G2B which sounds way better than an octavizer. I've looped this song hundreds of times but never with a choir because I don't have the option, so I just use a TC Helicon Acoustic Play to give me some vocal harmonies when I'm not badly attempting the vocal run (LOL). The Play can do looping, but it's another menu dive to do that AND do harmonies, so I don't use it. I also make the drum loops using my guitar because I can't beatbox (LOL again). Since you asked, string rakes for hh/snare sounds in swing feel 8th notes ver 6/8, and gentle palm taps on the bridge of my Taylor 424ce Special Edition for kick, and I use an EV Evolve 50 so I have a dedicated sub to pump that kick sound. GREAT work, and thanks for posting! It's in my cart at Sweetwater.

    So here's a topic that may or may not fit in with your instructional style. I have an RC-600 and am still working through how I'm going to use it, what songs fit, etc. It looks to me that you typically use multi-mode with your tracks so you can add/remove layers through the song. And this especially lends itself towards songs with repeating chord progressions. Do you use single mode tracks, a.k.a. for separate verse, chorus, bridge, whatever? Have you played with or found a use case for mixed modes? I'm sure, for me, the more complex it gets, the more likely I may loose the audience. However, that RC-600 has some massive capabilities that are so much fun.
    Thanks for all you do. Love your music as well as your instruction; very helpful!

    • @EmilyMcVicker
      @EmilyMcVicker  Рік тому

      Hey Mark :) I don’t really use single mode because I don’t record every section. I just like to have some textures to add it take away and still focus mostly on the live performance. Do you like single mode? I also haven’t really tried it

    • @MarkUsher
      @MarkUsher Рік тому

      Single mode on the RC-600 works great if you want to flip between alternate chord progressions. It syncs real nicely, like if you want to queue up a second track to play when the first track completes, for example. I think it might be sweet to play around with hybrid so you can do a verse / chorus and still layer tracks in and out to give it variety. I haven't tried that out yet.

      It may look easy, but it‘s actually a lot of work, practice, and more often than not frustration.
      First Emily has to figure out what the song she wants to cover is all about - rhythm, chord progression, structure, instrumentation, arrangement, vocals, solos etc. Then she has to learn the lyrics (by❤) and the melody lines for the intro, solos and ending. She‘s probably experienced enough to instantly know how to transfer the rhythm pattern into beatboxing, and how to sing the harmonies. Nevertheless these processes also take some time. After that she has to manage and organize the looper functions (fx, loop lengths, partitioning, mixing, controls etc.). Then she can (pre-)record the loops and do the mixing and maybe add some (output) effects like reverbs, dynamics and enhancers. The finished loops finally need to be integrated into the current set list and performance (or be prepared for a tutorial). And finally everything needs to be practiced and repeated several times and on several days. If you stop rehearsing a song regularly, it will be completely gone after three weeks. (Once you‘ve performed it in front of an audience, it will last much longer - but also fade over time and will need re-rehearsing).
      On top of all that Emily has to maintain her equipment, organize her schedule and constantly keep up with tech, song, and style trends. Like I said: Lot‘s a work. 😊

    I always appreciate all that you do to help guide those of us coming up behind you, trying to learn this craft.... looping is an art in and of itself. I mean, It’s one thing to use a looper to layer tons of random sounds, it’s another thing to use one to perfectly recreate songs that were originally performed by a 6 piece band. Well done!

    Thanks for all your helpful tutorials and beautiful music!
    Inspired me to get my RC-600 this weekend and discovered a cool trick for switching on the G2B input effect without extra foot switches: If you set an assign to the rec/play button where the bass track will live to toggle on the G2B effect, the effect punches in and out nicely when recording the bass line on that specific track. This way, there's no need to turn G2B on and off separately. Of course only bass can go to that track, but hey we have 5 more tracks ;-}

    • @EmilyMcVicker

    • @Jh0st
      @Jh0st 5 місяців тому

      @EmilyMcVicker thank you! I noticed the pro-tip way you keep the energy up by recording one track to the next directly without pressing play after recording the current loop and waiting for that extra cycle (a big YES to your 5 looping mistakes video!)
      So here's one more key detail to use G2B in that scenario. (I'm sure you already know but thought I'd share with your viewers) : you can set assigns on the other track record buttons to also turn off G2B so that it turns off when directly recording a different track. Just set the assign target on those buttons to G2B, but this time, turn both min/max toggles to off. Heck, I even put the same off-assign on the stop button where the G2B effect lives just in case. OK, enough geekery, time to make some music ;-}

    There's something very wrong here. I play guitar, bass, sing and own an RC-600 and I'm nowhere near as fantastic as Emily. Having given this some thought, I've come to the only logical conclusion - my RC-600 needs a firmware update.

    Hello Emily, I guess you're currently one the greatest person on earth ! 😊 Thanks for your videos ! 🙏Do you believe you could explain why you have two mikes on a lot of your videos and what are the role of each one - I find it difficult to capture and loop (live) percussion sounds with my Sennheiser 835s, but I like it for my voice ! and the Shure SM7B is for studio recording, isn't it ? Thanks !

    • @EmilyMcVicker
      @EmilyMcVicker  Рік тому

      Hey! Good question :-) are used to always use two microphones, because I wanted there to be a different sound from the recorded loops versus the lead singing. but I have simplified and gone down to one microphone. When I am live, I am able to turn down just the loop volumes in the little mixer settings. And when I’m making videos, now that I have one microphone, I can mix the sound virtually in my DAW before it goes to the Looper. But I know lots of folks who still use two microphones and it works really great 👍

I'm struggling a bit to use the click in my IEM's with the RC600 when playing live, but when I don't, even though I'm a rhythmic player, getting the timing right is hit and miss. Just curious. Just an observation when you're doing the hats in the beatbox...the amount of air coming from your throat is a bit whistly and i think its may cause some unnecessarydry throat over a full gig.. one thing I've worked on is creating pressure in the roof of your mouth rather than your lungs.. you can get more of a washy sound by making a "Tss" through your teeth you just make you still get that strong "T" sound.. you can also add softer accents while hissing throught like "TsstststststsTsststststst" (hope you cam translate beatbox😅)
    I just feel like its a simple thing to work on to avoid using to much air and drying your throat out
    Very helpful video, thank you 💐

      Hmm ya. Not a problem for me. 🤷‍♀️👍

      And fyi, when you’re beatboxing, the high hat sound shouldn’t be coming from your throat at all. Try just making the pressure from within only your mouth. That might help 👍

      @@EmilyMcVicker thats what I'm getting at... your hats are a "Tuhhh" instead of "Tss" sound, which is wasting air and adding a dry whispery/ whistle behind the beat.. but if that spreads your jam, put on a buffet 👌

    Excellent video, but never see you use more than 3 trks, so why six trks, will the first first 3 trks will be muted if you activate 4.5.6. By pressing the mode button? Seems a bit risky using more than 3 trks.😅

      I totally agree! It is rare that I use more than three tracks. Mostly because to use the other tracks, I have to do more clicking and shuffling through the pedal modes, and I feel like that takes up time and energy, and I can usually create all I need with just the three. There are so many variables to life performance, I say, keep it simple 😆👍

    Are you happy with the sound of the gtb effect? I hadn’t been satisfied with it the few times I tried it. I also play a 1/2 below standard tuning so I’m not sure if that is an issue.

      It was interesting playing around with it on this video. I don’t use it a tone. I usually prefer to play key bass on the piano. What do you think of the sound of it in this example? I had to be really careful to not let any of the other strings ring out at all. My finger mute game had to be on high alert!

    When you're recording your harmonies why the mic is not recording back the sound coming from the speakers and only recording clean vocals?

      I have headphones in 👍 but when live, the goal is to have as limited of that as possible. It can be tricky when live. But that’s the goal

      @@EmilyMcVicker I've seen guys doing it live and I always wonder why don't they get the live sound coming through the speakers recorded in the microphone. For reference you can check an artist Bhuwin Khursija, he's amazing with his loops and vocals..
