Although Russ has been a fan of this classic film for decades, this was a blind buy for Matt and his first time watching.

I got the set with the steelbook and the booklet. Came just in time for Halloween and I love the set. Had to import it but whatever… worth it! Also, yes, I like Pure Moods. Lmfao.

To me the opening scene of the Exorcist really sets the mood for the rest of the movie.
Now go check out Friedkin’s Sorcerer. Very underrated.
Been looking forward to this review. The only thing that's holding me back is the artwork cover for the standard 4k. I need the original artwork.
Agreed on the OG art. That's why I went with this, to get the steel. I would have just got the solo steel if it hadn't sold out too.
The Exorcist and The Wicker Man both celebrate 50 and got 4ks this year. Good shit
When Kris looks at Damien and asks something to the effect of ‘she’s going to die isn’t she?’ And he just snaps out of the shit that’s going on in his head and just says “no” before going up the stairs to the gut wrenching finale… oof. That hits hard
16:50 epic! I just looked it up on Spotify, and appears the 1997 re-release removed Tubular Bells! 😲
Generally, I'm not a horror fan. This movie is on a short list of horror movies that I can watch every few years and always appreciate it. Like you guys said, the drama aspect really elevates this movie over other horror movies of even today.
7:50 I respected it to much so that I stopped half way through so I can think about what I already saw and get excited to watch the other half the next night, which I did exactly that!
I'm partial to The Omen myself and find it to be a superior movie. The pacing and suspense last the entire time and never let up. Plus that ending!
The Exorcist has a really good final 30 min when the exorcism starts. But most of the movie has to do with slow backstory on Regan's mom and Father Karras. I spend most of the movie saying, "When does the exorcism start already?" LOL
I’d say the only glaringly bad part of the transfer was in the very last exorcism scene with the two priests. When the camera got close up, the quality looked comparable to DVD. Other than that, this is probably the best the movie could look, and I’m so glad I got the ultimate collector’s edition with that purple box.

I finally picked this up in 4k and saw it for the first time.
It wasn't scary at all; however, I'm quite seasoned in horror over the years so in 1972 on the big screen this would have hit differently.
It's def. methodical and runs like a Drama and I loved that.
It wasnt anything like I expected, and I took away from it what I brought (like director said)

Bret Easton Ellis has great Friedkin interview. Wacky Willy really did not give a flying fuck into a rolling donut
If you want an epic you have to cover a lot of ground or a lot of time, so the Holy Land scene in the beginning contributes to this being a true horror epic
I got the Ultimate Collectors Edition off ebay for a very hefty price I might add😅 I think The Exorcist is the greatest horror movie of all time. My favorite scene is the death of father Carrisas as he is given his last rights and moving his bloody hand/fingers. Really like The Exorcist III (love George C. Scott & Brad Dourif). I might pick up Pure Moods too!😊
I could never settle on what would be the greatest horror movie of all-time, but Exorcist is definitely in the conversation.

I got the same boxset that you got , but it had 2 blurays along with the 2 4Ks
The reason why I don't like the 'spider walk' is cause it breaks the structure of the film. Regan should never leave that room once she's possessed IMO.
That's an excellent point and I think you converted me to this opinion.

Meaning, we, the audience shouldn't see her leave the room.
I was happy to see it once, but now I'm ok with it being omitted. It just looks fake and awkward to me.

@@russceasetheruss5360 well Demons, for example, is a campy and non-serious horror film but Exorcist is quite real and for that reason I am out.
@@russceasetheruss5360 OK I watched the your review again and because you said "this film believes it, so hard" means it hit a spot with you and that's enough for me to finally watch this... plus the director (or whomever) saying you get from this movie what you bring to it made my triple think.

OK, I finally picked this up, Russ… And I just stopped the film halfway through, but not for the reasons you might think… The suspense is building just perfectly, I’m totally intrigued, I love how they went down all the different paths from clinician to medical to psychiatric and now exorcism. Truly captivating, I paused it because I want to savour the movie and watch the rest tomorrow night.
I own Screamfactory's Exorcist III, but I haven't seen the 2nd part. Do I need to watch that to enjoy the third installment?
Not at all and it's strongly advised to avoid 2 at all costs.
I hate the directors cut, the original any day.
