I suggest buying all the DVDs and Bluerays you can now because I predict that as streaming and internet becomes more expensive and the streaming programs continue to divide and increase in number, people are going to realize soon enough that it is cheaper to get physical media and not have to pay monthly fees. Then the prices of physical media will go up again. Since physical media is cheaper now, BUY THEM NOW AND GET A HEAD OF THE GAME. It may be a good idea also to buy a bunch of high quality dvds now cheap and sell them when the prices go up, because they will!

Here's why I still collect it: because I prefer it, and I don't care what anyone else is doing.
    Simple.

For me, I like being able to watch any movie I want any time I want. Not to mention that you don't own anything on streaming. Even if you purchase it. And it could just disappear without notice. I don't like censorship and many movies are now being edited for being offensive. That's crazy. How do we learn from the past if it's just deleted and forgotten. I also love owning the uncut versions of movies. For example, My Bloody Valentine was heavily cut with most of the gore scenes taken out. Scream Factory put out a beautiful Blu-ray (now a 4k too) with all those scenes added back in. But if you watch My Bloody Valentine on Shudder, it's the edited version. And Shudder is a horror streaming service. WTF? If there is a ton of stuff you want to see on streaming maybe it's worth paying it for some people but for me, there is almost nothing I need to see that I can't just buy on disc. I will always support physical media

I had a friend that wanted to watch Schindler’s List and Drive but they were only available to buy or rent, so I let him borrow my Blu-Rays.
I also had a friend that wanted to rewatch the "IT" films but they were removed from Max at the time, so I also let him borrow my Blu-Rays.
Blu-Rays have so many advantages over streaming

I have both those movies in VUDU, can watch them any time I want, have never been censored. If I didn't have access there, I could go the library and rent them or torrent them or something.

My internet bill has gotten more and more expensive. So streaming is basically cable 2.0.
DVDs and Blu Rays don’t need internet to play, which is a major plus.

For me, there's the dependability (If I want to watch something, I have it on hand) and the quality (the video and audio bitrate of a blu-ray can be much better than the stream of 4K, not to mention that you can't get true Atmos from a stream). Then, there are bonus features that usually aren't included with digital moves, especially older movies.

I'm not a collector, but when I see a good movie/series on TV or Amazon Prime, I will buy the DVD. It's such a good feeling to have my favourite movies around, so I could basically watch them at 4 am or whatever. I also life in Germany, where the internet doesn't always function.

My dad and I have been buying Blu Ray and 4K CD’s for over a decade now. I also try to buy physical Xbox games as much as possible, but they are dwindling fast compared to PlayStation ones. It sucks because I don’t want to switch consoles for physical media since eventually the PS5 releases will mainly be digital as well. Another reason why I love physical games more is due to the special editions. They come with interesting stuff like maps, stickers, posters, etc.

I love DVD's (and CD's) . I actually own the film and should I decide to sell then, I get the money, OK not mega bucks. Nowadays I tend to look in charity shops (thrift stores) and found many bargains at less than a £1. I've never streamed a film (or music) and I don't intend to.

Media was always physical in one way or another, the real question is where it is being stored. Local storage has some huge benefits and a few drawbacks. Weird as it sound I like both ways I like to have it at home in a collection but like the idea of accessing it throughthe net if anything ever happens to that collection. In theory, while in practice, slowly reacquiring all the media, in case of a catastrophe would be an immens headache and probably years long undertaking.

    • @KennyStepsIntoMovies
      @KennyStepsIntoMovies  Місяць тому

@CraftyF0X great point! Sometimes, even if I own a movie physically, I'll still watch it on streaming for two reasons.
      1. The convenience of not going to get the disk.
      2. If it's a more obscure movie, I want the streaming algorithm to see that someone is watching it!

I Wish It Can Continue But Sadily, Digital Only Games And Streaming Services Are Ruining The Whole Thing. I Don't Want To Say Steam Ruined It Cuz Steam Saved PC Gaming, But Consoles Shouldn't Do That!
As For Films, Hush Did Got Rid Of It's Contract With Netflix So It Can Get A Physical Release! If That Happens, I Hope Everyone Will Stop Paying For Streaming Services And Stick With Physical, Why Is Everyone And I Mean EVERYONE Going Towards Streaming And Game Subscriptions? Why Do People Think It's The ONLY Option?!

4K digitals are cheaper. 4K Blu-ray players cost too much even though they haven't come out with new players for like 6-7 years and 4K Blu-rays nearly always cost 2-3x what a 4K digital costs, often you can find a standard Blu-ray for even cheaper and it looks fine.

@@KennyStepsIntoMovies I have the Xbox One S and I have watched a few 4K Blu-rays on it. It doesn't handle HDR as well as dedicated players but that's fine because I don't have the greatest TV and I always thought regular Blu-ray was fine.
